Another returning player (groan)

I've read through a few threads and I see that there have been many returning player questions, but I had something specific in mind that I hope can be addressed. I've read through many forum posts, patch notes and update features, but I'm still not quite certain of the answers I'm looking for.

I've been gone for a little under two years.

I was just looking to find out what was new and maybe not so obvious over that time.

I've found the clone story arc, and I've heard of the Dr. Khan TF (though I don't know any specifics, level ranges, etc if anyone can illuminate).

So, anything you can think of that is new over the past two years. Before I left, I was well-versed with Cimerora, the Imperious TF, the Auction House, Inventions and the Universities. It's anything after that which I need a crash course on.

I'm also not sure of how things will change once Going Rogue goes live. From the sounds of it, if I want to begin the game in Atlas Park, I must create a character now, correct? Praetoria becomes mandatory?

As much information as you want to give on Going Rogue is requested as well. I read that you sort of pick your powers as you go, not relegated to a specific chosen set, but that sounds impossible to me, so if anyone can explain that more thoroughly, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

Well, firstly, Paragonwiki is your friend. I'd recommend doing a search for Issues... I think you need, oh, 13-17 to get you utterly up to date.

As far as we know, existing players can create Heroes, Villains and Praetorians as new characters, but people who have ONLY purchased Going Rogue (no other editions of the game), there is a note somewhere that they will have to start new characters in Praetoria. Since you clearly already have an account, you will not be forced to start new characters there if you don't want to.

Also: No, powersets and AT's have not been removed. The trick is that in Praetoria you can start with ANY Archetype, and when you've finished it (at L20), you can pick hero or villain. So you can create a Mastermind in Praetoria who then goes on to become a Hero in Paragon City, but you are still limited to the Mastermind powersets.

The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*

Thanks. So the only new story-content is the Clone arc and the Dr. Kahn TF?

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

The Barracuda Strike Force was added (the Villains got this when heroes got the Khan TF), a lot of powersets were proliferated, color customization was added, Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning were added (for those who pre-purchased Going Rogue), and the Silver Mantis Strike Force was opened up for people outside villain groups.

Where did you see that? I certainly haven't (not that I couldn't of missed it of course).

Barring a direct dev comment, I'd seriously doubt that new players using the GR retail box to create a new account are going to be limited to starting in Praetoria only. GR accounts are full accounts just like all the rest - they'd almost have to be as Praetoria only goes to level 20.

Now, if you're an existing player and you DON'T buy GR then you will be locked out of Praetoria, Side-Switching, and the coming Incarnate stuff; but that's the only limitation factor I'm aware of.

Couldn't find the quote, but I do recall reading it. It was something about the fact that the Praetoria tutorial/early game content is considered markedly superior than equivalent red/blue side material (looks nicer, and probably contains more up-to-date mechanics information). They aren't PERMANENTLY required to start in praetoria... just their first character (or until they leave it at lvl 20 first)

You can start where you like. However if you start blueside you are limited to hero AT and if you start redside you are limited to villian ATs. If you start in the new zone you can pick any AT (nonEAT) and branch out to one side or the other at 20.

Thank you. Looks like I've seen some of it already then.

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.
