Quote:What's owned is what's created in the game. Not the general concepts behind it and such that are independent of the IP already owned by Paragon Studios. Basically, all this clause really exists for is to cover their rears if they use an image of your character in an advertisement or some such. You can't claim that they're using your creation and owe you money.Basically, the EULA claims that everything you do on CoH is now owned by NCSoft... local law notwithstanding. And if local law withstands, then you are agreeing to voluntarily surrender all rights to NCSoft... local law notwithstanding.
Screenshots from the game, yes, are Paragon's and using them in your own commercial applications would be a violation of their trademark unless you've acquired direct permission from them. The chances of getting that permission I'd say are pretty slim. At least not without cutting them a fat check. And even then, probably not too good. -

Quote:Speaking as an experienced tabletop gamer, that won't deter some people in the slightest. Many gamers have willingly agreed to be GM storyline devices in exchange for great power.QR
To qualify for the "fast-track" to all the goodies, you have to agree to let any NCSoft/Paragon Studios employee take over the character in question, at any time, with no prior warning.
Anyway, as to the OP... Just because something is mentioned in in-game dialog doesn't mean it's available to the players. As everyone has said already, the "fast track" is just background plot for how a few NPCs got their powers. -
Quote:That bad, eh. I've played CO off and on. It's not terrible these days, but does seem better suited to the free to play model that they're moving to. Some games just don't lend themselves to the subscription model, which doesn't necessarily make them "bad" games....having just rejoined after taking a month or so off to Beta DCUO).
Anyway, I just got a DCUO beta invite, but am currently restricted to my laptop so I haven't had a chance to test the waters myself yet. If it's that terrible, I won't bother. -

Quote:Those games appeal to a different crowd. They're far less aimed at the roleplayer in us than MMOs are. I think the immersion level in an MMO makes it much harder for some people to distance from what their character is doing in the game.I still think this is a dumb rationale. If people's personal morals dictated what they are willing to do in a video game, games like Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt (to cite some examples) wouldn't be as popular as they are.
I think another part of it comes from the comic book theme. The villains usually lose in the comics. It's kinda like cops and robbers as a kid. Nobody wanted to play the robber because the bad guy always loses. -

Would be nice if there were information posted somewhere that told us about all the ways to get shards, which are more than just the TFs... That would be nice.

Couldn't possibly be because news sites just copy-paste from the original source so that if the source has a typo, the news sites will too... Could it? Naaaah, that answer would actually make sense.

Quote:Not many would be. Specifically because there aren't exactly many Gypsies in the US...I have to agree here. I do not believe anyone would honestly be genuinely offended to me saying "I feel liked I have been gypped." OR "They gypped me!".
And, honestly, I'm sick of the "Wah wah, stop being so PC!" response any time anyone says anything about a slur being used. Seriously, the "anti-PC" crowd have gotten far worse than the "PC" crowd ever was. -
Quote:Actually, this is the forum that lets us ask other players questions. Hence "PLAYER Questions". You must be thinking of the Suggestions and Ideas forum.Telling the OP to "deal with it" on a forum which allows us, the customer, to state quality of life issues which we feel can be improved upon, complete with our thoughts on an actual solution is pretty futile when you think about it. Then again it sounds like you never gave it much thought when your fingers did the typing.

Yeah, just like it's original incarnation back at the beginning with the old forums, forum rep serves no purpose other than to give spiteful trolls a way to jab at those who disagree with them.

Mind showing me where I said you did? I was talking about the text you quoted. The person was saying they wanted the ability to just swap out one power in a respec without having to rebuild from the ground up. Still burns the respec the same, just less work to do it.

Quote:Sooo....what's the question for us players here? This is something I would like to see from the Dev's. I would love respecs to take less time and I think a new interface would be key. Oftentimes I am doing a total respec to often move a few slots around, which I dont have an issue doing but just looking at issue 19 and having over 40+ characters to respec and I know others will have a lot more than that.
I would also like to see the enhacement tray increased from ten. This is just ridiculous. In this day of IO's I have often had to burn several respecs to take IO's off one character to invest in another character. There should be a way that these can be deposited in the auction house or in your base or vault from the respec interface.
Also since one of the earlier updates the numbers on the enhancements got really really really small. This needs to be fixed.
Just some thoughts as I prepare to start the huge number of respecs I will start when I get home. -
It's an internet forum. Nothing specific to this one. What is fairly rare about this one is that it remained civil.

Well, probably because the group it offends is such a small minority, especially in the US, and it's been so commonly used that not many people actually know its origin. The term stems from the stereotype of all Gypsies being thieves. I admit I didn't make the connection until someone pointed it out ( politely ) to me. I avoid using it now.

As with most pay to play MMOs, what you purchase isn't the client software but an account key. The client can be freely downloaded off the site even if you've never bought the game before.

Quote:New powersets are more than 1-20 content. Incarnates ( Coming starting i19 and will only be available with GR ) are absolutely more than 1-20 content. Side-swapping, more content being added to Praetoria for higher levels.40bucks it a little steep for an expansions with only 1-20 content
Plus, yanno, that 1-20 content is pretty awesome. And the $40 is only for the bundle pack that includes a key for the whole game, not just an expansion upgrade. Also includes a free moth of play, so effectively $25. And you can likely find it for less at other retailers. Point is, you're not paying that much for "an expansion", you're paying that much for the whole game.
Another thing to consider: CO is going free to play at the beginning of next year. -
Quote:Yes, it's so easy to get around Grandville with that. ><I still use fly because it is one of my favorite things to do in the game but it is always on my mind that ninja run with hurdle/swift (both after issue 19) + sprint would actually be faster and not much more dangerous in 95% of the zones in the game.
I'd say "95% of the zones" is being unrealistically generous there...
