  1. I've been playing for just over 3 months and I'd like to think that I'm picking up on most things at a pretty decent rate, but sometimes I still find myself puzzled by the more 'technical' side of the game. I am a professional forum lurker which may (or may not ) be working in my favor, but I still have some specific questions that might require you to speak to me as if I am a child.

1.) I understand the concept behind the soft-cap in theory, but sometimes I have trouble with it in practice. For instance, +45 defense is supposed to be the vs attack soft cap but I have seen builds posted that were supposedly soft-capped to smashing and lethal damage, but when I look at the bonuses in mid's it says just over 10% bonus for each. Is there something else that goes into it that I'm missing out on?

2.) I am having trouble figuring out how to know what a builds' overall resistance/defense is actually at, with some sets giving specific bonuses (smashing, toxic, etc) and other sets giving general bonuses (aoe, ranged, melee.) How would I go about calculating the totals? Is one taken into account while the other is calculated, and either way what is the best way to make a well-rounded and properly functional build with all these factors taken into account? Obviously priority depends on extenuating circumstances/personal preference, but what is the best way to determine what direction to take these bonuses in and how to calculate their final value in relevance to one another?

3.) I have trouble understanding the mechanical difference between damage resistance and defense. Try as I might, I just can't wrap my head around it. I just know that when my Warshade is fully eclipsed, his health will still sometimes go down until I eat a couple of purple inspirations, and then it will stay perfectly full.

I'm sure there a lot more questions that will come as I receive answers but in the meantime I would really appreciate any guidance I get.
  2. This idea from OP is very similar to one of my inf systems but with a few changes and notes..

First of all I would never use items that stood to make less than 10 million per-- The profit window is too small for too much work. A nice example of something awesome to use are certain pieces of the LOTG set-- Buy the recipes for 10k, craft and sell for over 10 mil.

The first thing you should do is leave lots of standing bids on the recipes. It doesn't matter if it takes a day to get them all... Personally when I find an item I want I use several alts that I have just for marketeering and fill up all their slots with relatively low bids on said items every day. It's to the point where it moves fluently now, so every time I log them in I craft post and bid on more.

Something you'll want to watch for is being undercut... Eventually someone will find out what you're doing and do the same exact thing except post them for lower. What you want to do before you start and if yours stop moving is leave standing bid-creeps on said item, check back a while later and see what you get it for. Whatever you got it for, either buy a bunch and post them for more or start posting yours for less. *This depends on the situation.

Eventually if you get good enough control of a situation with a great profit margin and you own most of the recipes, you stand to make billions of inf daily. Personally I'm making about 600 million a day, and I'm only using one item on one server. If I got ambitious I could get pretty rich pretty quick. You can also expand your system across servers and create personal SG bases for storage purposes.

I hope this was helpful, and thanks for posting the original!

    And you are?
I was running an AE team on my scrapper once when he was about level 36, you asked to join on a low level character, sat in for a run, said "BRB" and came back with your Warshade. After that you proceeded to take over the team and maul more Rikti than I had ever seen at that point while everyone, myself included, laid around dead and watched... Effectively inspiring me to make a Warshade, too.

My 50+1 Warshade is now hands down my favorite character to play, so thanks for the inspiration and of course welcome, even though you've probably been here much longer than me. 8)
  4. somewhat related, somewhat unrelated... I find it incredibly lame that Khelds don't get access to epic pools. My warshade picked up 4 powers he never uses (not counting the crappy shield and blast that were forced at levels 1 and 2) that are only there for lotg procs... I see no reason for Epic Powers to be denied. >
  5. My favorite idea on this subject I believe was posted in one of the beta discussions-- Having all enemies drop shards (as they do) except for level 54 enemies, who should drop threads in all content. In other words, turn the difficulty to +4 if you want threads to drop at the same rate shards drop in normal content.
  6. I swear I saw this addressed somewhere, I want to say it was mentioned in the live webcam i20 promo session with the dev's. Pretty sure someone posted a link to that in the designated thread.. Definitely try to take a look.

It doesn't matter that this is a great idea, there will be at least one idiot who will find a reason not to like it. It's the internet baby!
Well I find a reason to dislike your pessimism.. I hereby complain!
  8. This is a totally different situation since it wouldn't interfere with the current method whatsoever-- I'm not saying the option to manually type in a global should be removed, just that another means of doing the same thing (quicker and more securely) would be a nice addition.
  9. I'm pretty sure that right click>send is a pretty standard concept... I can't imagine anyone not glancing at the field to make sure they clicked on the right person's name. A typo is much easier to overlook, whereas a totally different name would probably be easy to spot. It's just as much a thing of convenience as it is a precaution, though... It gets to be a pain having to manually type in globals, double check that you got it just right, et cetera.
  10. I think it would be cool if instead of having to manually type in a global friends' name and risk a typo going unnoticed, it would be nice to implement a "send e-mail" right click option for users from our friends list, or perhaps teammates. When transferring things that might be of some value (ie: infamy, enhancements, etc) it's obviously best to double check that you've entered the name correctly but I think this would be more convenient and safe.

I haven't noticed this at all.. The night i20 came out I ran 2 x8 Borea missions for 4 shards. Maybe the last update changed the shard rate, I haven't played since but you might have just been having some bad luck.
  12. I would say that it's probably expected to fail for a while, but even if you do you're still working towards your new slots/incarnate shifts. After you're all decked out it will probably get easier... I'm in the lag boat too though, I ran a lambda earlier just to see if I could and I was in powerpoint mode the whole time.
  13. Thanks for posting the link Golden Girl, I missed the first 15 minutes. It was great of them to do that and I look forward to the next one. Also, very stoked for Nemesis pets!

  15. Ah touche, I copied it over from the 'description' section on paragon wiki while half-paying attention but I just found the actual dialog.

    Quote:
There you are. Mender Lazarus has told me so much about you, I feel I should tell you a little about myself.
I am the last Kheldian. For you, I'm sure this is hard to believe, but there is a storm coming. More destructive than any before it. This galaxy holds a threat that is far superior to the Rikti race. This threat is the one that rounded up my kind to fuel their battle fleets as living energy cells. I was the only one to escape, and Mender Silos gave me a chance to change things here and now. This is the time to make a difference, and a difference I will make.

One of the key elements to this great cataclysm is the Rikti War that is currently occurring. I need you to infiltrate one of their bases and defeat one of their war generals named Loc'Danan. I will then slip forward in time and see if his defeat has had a desired effect. You may even meet an old friend in the caves to assist you.
Now that I know he meant to say that in the future he will be the last kheldian it makes a little more sense, but still. And then there was..

    Quote:
    Mission Objective(s)

You have no idea how the Rikti are involved, but hopefully defeating this General can help Twilight's Son's race.
You would think that kheldian players would have a little more vested interest, and sense of inclusion.
  16. It was pretty funny when my Warshade did the Ouroboros introduction arc to be told, "Twilight's Son is the last of his race. The Kheldians have been wiped out and used as a source of energy to power the ships of a deadly alien force in the far distant future."

I even made sure to jump into Nova form before I started the chat for lol purposes. Not sure if this has been brought up before or not, but I thought I'd put it out there.
  17. Yeah I noticed that, I guess I'm a little overenthusiastic. The reason I used the Panacea set is because Tommy recommended an Accuracy/Damage Hami and five Doctored Wounds, but the recharge bonus from Doctored Wounds was a conflict so I slotted Panacea for the same amount of slots and a better bonus. I see the changes you made removing the slow sets from nova bolt and dwarf strike to make for more damage in gravity well and the extra hami-o in gravitic emanation and that does make sense since the recharge bonuses from the slow sets were pretty negligible.
  18. Ok, sorry about that.. I'll edit with the shorter version. Would it be ok to ask what things you would do differently? I only have one respec right now and I'd like to use it wisely.
  19. edit: I am removing the original build posted here because I got more feedback since posting. I really appreciate everyone's help, you guys are all great. I tried to keep everyone's suggestions in mind but there were some conflicts in Tommy's suggestion in terms of too many of the same set bonus, and I didn't want to steal the build that Dechs was kind enough to post, though the point on slotting some regular IO's is taken. Anyways, here it is and thanks again.

  21. Understood, that does make sense but the fact is that I just don't know how to appropriately slot the powers for optimal function AND get the recharge bonuses at the same time. It's obviously do-able, but I'm not familiar enough with all the sets (or any of them really) to be able to automatically know what to put where for what purpose, hence my posting here. This is the first time I've ever tried to make a build using IO sets.

Edit: The Basilisk's Gaze set gives a 7.5% recharge bonus for only 4 slots. I feel like that's a really good deal and I don't know where else it would go besides in Gravity Well. I could put it in Gravimetric Snare I guess, but I never use that power so that would seem wasteful, plus then I'd be out the slots for Gravity Well.
  22. Oh, I didn't make the build in mids in the actual order that I picked the powers. I have that set in eclipse for the recharge bonus... What would be a better set to use?

Once again, this is just the mids version of a character that already actually exists... I didn't put the actual levels that I chose the powers at since I made it after the fact in mids.

That set is in Stygian Circle for the recharge bonus. I was under the impression that was the most important thing to worry about with IO's in a Warshade.

I know essence drain is worthless, once again i just slotted it like that for the negative energy defense. at a certain point I noticed I had a choice between a bunch of worthless powers so I just picked them randomly after I already had enough worthless powers that took LOTG proc's.

Not really sure what to do since any of the changes you suggested aside from the essence drain one would effect my recharge bonus, and I don't know what other sets to put in what places to achieve the same results. :/
  23. I finally finished what I thought would be a great build but I must say I'm pretty thoroughly disappointed by it. I seem to have endurance problems sometimes and I still get faceplanted by Malta on x8. I was hoping after I spent all this inf, I would never see the inside of a hospital again. I'm primarily a solo player so that deserves to be mentioned.

    Some things-

I'll be putting my last LOTG proc in Maneuvers tonight.

I'm not sure about the performance shifter proc in Stamina since I only have one slot for it.. I'm thinking I would be better off respecing to fit an extra slot in there, or just putting a regular endurance mod instead.

Not sure about the 6 slotted Touch of the Nictus set in Essence Drain since I never use the power.. I only set it up that way because of the negative energy damage bonus for voids and such.

Not sure about the Stagger set in Gravitic Emanation. I took it because I could afford it and it had a crappy recharge bonus.

I like Obliteration in Quasar but I think it might be better with 5 slots instead of 6.

I don't know about reactive armor in Black Dwarf either, I just put it in there in lieu of the 3 Damage resistance SO's I had since it was cheap. I read that the performance shifter proc is good to put in your forms but then I also read that 3 damage resistance is the way to go, not sure where I would get a 4th slot from.

I plan on throwing a performance shifter proc into Nova form in lieu of flight speed.

I wish I had more slots for Nova emanation because I like it and use it a lot, but once again don't know where they'd come from.

Wish I had slots for Dwarf Strike and Smite, too, though the Tempered readiness pairs seem to do ok.

I've thought about replacing the 2 Hammi's in Dwarf Mire with 2 more pieces of the Scirocco's set for the accuracy bonus, but again not sure if it's worth it.

So as you can see, I am in desperate need of guidance. Please help me.
  24. I'll have to agree with what seems to be a general consensus, everything looks awesome except for the Praetorian pets. If it were changed so that we could use the regular character editor to customize a costume (and maybe even pick an AT/powerset) for the lore pet it would go from a slot that I don't even plan on unlocking to one of my favorite things in the game in 3 seconds flat. Lore be damned.
