Quote:I'm probably one of the persons least happy about these packs even existing (for a variety of reasons), but comments like this are unfair at best. Other fitting phrases would be "untrue", "false", or "flat out wrong". There're plenty of examples of changes being made based on player feedback in beta. They were made prior to them going on test, as we've already been told, by the time something goes on test it is too late to change anything, they are already working on the next project.
Hell they don't even bother to fix the bugs that we report, and send it live as is.
And if the changes you're hoping for is for them to cancel the packs altogheter, well, even I realize that that's just not going to happen. -
Quote:I do. It's still a lot more interesting than most of the 1-20 hero and villain stuff.3) Praetoria 1-20, who the hells bothers with it anymore now that you can select your starting point as hero or villain for any class without needed to go through Praetoria. Now it set up a lot of stuff later on so...I doubt this is a regret from the devs really.

Quote:It'd completely destroy the badge hunting community. The whole point of it is to earn the badges ingame. Offering them for sale would completely defeat the purpose.I'd buy badges if they still offered us a way to get them ingame for free, so that the players who didn't want to pay for them could still get them. I don't see much difference to this than what they're doing with costume pieces.
Eco
Also, badges and any other sorts of 'achievements' in any game are specifically designed to encourage people to do content they otherwise might not and to create a time sink so people might keep playing when they otherwise wouldn't have. Offering them for sale goes directly against the design of achievements. -
Quote:Ah, yea. You mean just removed from the zone by phasing, not the entire game. That's what I assumed would happen when I first heard about these arcs. Please see number 6, 1:30 in the Dev video. They state the character will be removed via the phase technology they added.
In order for phasing to work, a zone has to built from the ground up with it. (Hence why they had to revamp the two starting zones to support phasing)
Praetoria zones also were built with it. -
Quote:I don't really see why it would be pointless that way. The dead character just wouldn't feature in any future content. But it's also kind of pointless to hype up a signature character's death if they're not being removed from the game world.
I also don't see the devs actually do such a thing. Every Freedom Phalanx and Vindicators member is the main subject of at least 1 high level villainside story arc. They all feature in the Lord Recluse SF.
They would have to remove at least 1 entire arc and remove the character from the LRSF, upsetting its balance and borking the cutscenes. I just don't see it happening.
Unless of course they go for another half-hearthed retcon, where they change some things but not others creating another inconsistent, self contradicting tangled mess ...
...
*sigh*
I'm worried now. -
A character's death doesn't mean he has to be removed from the game. If that death occurs chronologically after all the other content he/she shows up in there's no reason to do so at all.
Current in game examples:
Praetorian Vanessa Devore dies at the end of the Underground trial. But she's still around in the lower Praetorian content as a trainer.
Mother is killed by the players at the end of the Minds of Mayhem trial. She still shows up in the low level Praetorian arcs.
-
-
Why is it every time the devs introduce a TF or trial that requires a bit more coordination and thought than hitting 1234-1234-1234 people start ******** about it?
If you got a frothy or elitist league leader the problem lies with them not with the trial. There really isn't anything in this game, aside from Master runs (and even then) that needs that much of a flawless execution for it to succeed. No reason to get so worked up about it. Yes sometimes trials fail. That happens when stuff is new and people are unfamilliar with it.
MoM might have just supplanted Keyes as my favorite trial, TPN completes the top 3.
Good job devs. Keep them coming. -

I usually just go for the one that fits my characters concept the best. If none fits the concept I just pick the one that does the most damage and that's still reactive.
My main (a dark/dark corr) just got a new shiny T4 spectral even though she already has a T4 reactive.
My fire/pain corr has reactive for concept.
My tanking ss/invul brute has reactive because nothing really fit. -
Quote:Meh.Really, even with the bonus pack, it barely measures up to the older weapon sets. It feels more like you are paying more (not counting the limited free offer) just to get up to normal instead of paying for something extra.
There's a good deal more detail and effects on these new weapons than on those for the older sets.
There's a lot of overlap between the older weapon sets, and a lot were lifted from assets already in game.
Most of the other weapons were created especially for weapons customization, so there was a good deal of time and resources allotted for them.
If you want to compare it with something compare it with beam rifle. How many models did that launch with? and most of those were taken from assets already in game too. I wouldn't mind a pack with some beam rifle models in. -
Quote:Yea, I can see why people are upset. I'm just not with them on the barricades this time, like with the last few riots we had these weeks.ehhhh, I think the bolded was part of the main issue on the beta boards. In fact many folks were asking if more variety would be released with beta.
The other issue I just mentioned is some of the older sets having more options than the newer sets. Also folks made tons of suggestions of things that could be taken from in-game (and some that don't exist in-game yet) that could be added to give TW more options. And it's not like TW was in beta for just a week or two, but it's been up and out there for a while now.
Yet the first time they see more options is in a PAID for pack that's announced on beta BEFORE the actual powerset comes out.
I don't think selling this is that bad an idea (I'm down for whatever they want to try to sell even if I would never buy it personally) but I can see why "a few" folks might be upset.
Just saying.
Chances are that if those weapons hadn't been made for the pack, they wouldn't have been made at all. At the speed they're churning out costume pieces now I'm guessing character artist time is very valuable. So they need to budget that time as cost effective as possible. Time spent on extras like this needs to be justified from a commercial point of view.
If the pack hadn't been free, I'd just gotten the Atomic Smasher for a concept I have in mind, maybe, and ignored the others. -
Quote:There actually was rioting on the beta boards before they said the pack would be free at the start.Yeah, there will be rioting over that if they try it. The only reason there wasn't rioting over this pack is due to the launch bundle.
I'm okay with these types of packs, even if it wouldn't be for free at the start. As long as there's a decent variety of weapon models coming with the set itself, as is the case here. -
Quote:I agree with you completely, as I already said. But, again, that time, that particular issue (the postponing of the planned board maintenance in favor of the f2p launch of lineage II) makes complete sense and was a perfectly valid decision. It has nothing to do with all those other issues. So you abusing this particular issue and harping on about it, while saying you aren't (how does that even work?), is what I take issue with. What I want is:
1. for someone at Customer Service to clearly and concisely explain to me how my account works with regard to points, tokens, transfers, and rewards; and for these things to work on a schedule that makes some kind of sense.
2. the game to be addressed with the same level of quality control that was previously maintained. Forcing Issue 21.25 and 3/4ths live to compete with a game that I've never heard of and have no interest in with all the bugs in it is just pathetic. Is Issue 21.5 live? Is it not? Why was this forced? You know what happens when CoH doesn't work? I look for something else to do with my time.
Those are my make or break issues. The fact that the forums have been broken for more than a year is just a leaky faucet that constantly drips. Sometimes you can ignore it, and other times it drives you insane because it reminds you how much everything else is falling apart. When the water heater blows out in an apartment on the other side of town, I fully understand why resources have to be allocated--but it doesn't change the fact that the damn sink won't stop dripping. I don't think it is unfair or petty of me to ask that my VIP status works correctly, and that the game is working normally.
Then again, if you're happy paying for something and not getting it, and you're okay with that--I can see how we would disagree.
You complain when complaining is due, but just whining to whine and flailing around wildly at every opportunity is what children do. Hence my 'childish' comment. But maybe your sense of perspective got relocated to Lineage II. -
Quote:How about you stop abusing this particular issue then to drive home your point, because it has nothing to do with your bigger point?I've said it before, and I will say it again. I'm not talking about a single issue, and I'm certainly not railing on yesterday's hiccup. I'm saying it is symptomatic of a larger issue that has been plaguing Paragon Studios for the last eighteen months. To put it in perspective, I'm talking about climate, not weather.
You come across as extremely childish.
This coming from someone who is as annoyed as you are with the complete failure of a web team that is apparently employed by NCSoft. -
Quote:6 months!? That's a long time, but yea I wouldn't be opposed to a system like this if it was implemented. As for making pack-exclusive costumes available through other means over the Paragon Store... Sell them. Simply delay the sets by six months from the time they show up in the gambling packs to the time they show up as a regular purchase and then price them either normal or double. That way, people who don't have the patience of a saint will be inclined to try and get the pieces they want early by gambling on them, and people like me who have ZERO patience for uncertain returns for my money will simply wait it out.
-
Those are some great additions for the ATO's, I hope something equally sensible comes for the costume pieces (the only things I really care about out all of this.
)
Quote:Again, not if you don't care for any of that stuff. Which is one of the main points against the packs, or at least against including exclusive costumes in them.Windfalls and XP Boosters currently cost 90 apiece, best price. If they stay that way then the Super Packs are still worth it.
Quote:I'm pretty sure we're going to see more rioting over the uncertain costume exclusivity, though. You gave 'em an inch, Z, and they'll be out for blood.
just,
-
I'm generally not a big fan of comic relief characters in game. Simply because most of them aren't very 'comic' i.m.o. Of course there always are people who do manage to pull it off.
That said I'm not opposed to a costume pack based on this theme. As long as there's a towel cape. Yes, there must be a towel cape. -
Quote:It may have been a bit better in terms of not setting the wrong expectations, but it still wouldn't have solved the problem of people not having gunslinger bits for their female characters.Yeah most of this could have been solved with a name change.
Calling it Gunslinger was...yeah...that was a bad idea.
Calling it something like "Wild West Saloon" would have probably been better.
Or as mentioned better yet create two Wild West packs a "Gunslinger" one and a "Saloon" one, I'd have bought both.
The 2 separate packs option would indeed have been the ideal course. Even if they would've been a year or more apart I would be perfectly happy with that.
Now the 'gunslinger' pack has come and gone, and my female idea for a gunslinger I've had for ages will have to be made without parts from that pack, or without a long coat. And because the theme was already addressed the chances of it ever being revisited to bring some gunslinger bits to female characters have become astronomically small. Which is one of the main reasons I'm not all that happy with this pack.
I'll still buy it though. There are some very nice pieces in it, especially in the female costume (oh irony), and buying them separately will bring me close to the 400 point mark anyway. But these aren't the pieces I was hoping for. -
-
Can't speak for anyone else, but that's not the issue that I'm talking about. At least, it's not the main issue. The main issue is that some costume pieces have some sort of preset base color (trying to simulate textures?) that influences all the colors you put over it. This creates issues if you try to match colors across your costumes. Selecting the same color from the color field on 2 different costume pieces will result in 2 different tints of that color on the 2 costume pieces.

Feedback on the Gunslinger set:
Keep 2 things in mind while reading this:
1) This is not an attack on the skill of the costume designers or the actual quality of the items themselves. That's all spiffy as far as I can see.
2) My polite tone (I think so at least), is just a tin layer of veneer hiding my ever mounting frustration and disappointment with the continuing gender issues.
So, here goes:
- I really, REALLY would've liked a proper female gunslinger outfit. It seems we're having this discussion every single time a new costume set is released for YEARS now. (Where's my female Baron coat and boots? And you denied me another overcoat with the steampunk pack.) You'd think it would've registered by now.
If we ever get, say for example, a medieval costume pack and the male pieces are for an armored knight while the female costume is some sort of half naked princess or damsel in distress I'm going to blow a fuse. I don't mind a princess outfit in itself, but there'd better be a female armored knight! And if you must have the princess outfit there should be a prince outfit as well.
- So many textured items. It's nice to have some textures on costume pieces, sure, but because of the effect it has on the colors it also creates obvious tint difference with already existing pieces. This makes it a pain to mix and match pieces from different sets because it just doesn't look right. It is a menace on the steampunk parts, it's a menace here. Please tone it down or offer textureless versions. Mixing and matching costume pieces is the main point of the costume creator, everything impeding that should be considered a big no-no.
- The female parts are actually quite nice. They fit in quite well with the female steampunk bits as alternative/supplements. But as I said, they are really not what I wanted out of this pack.
- I love the hair. It's what I wanted when in the steampunk pack feedback thread I asked for the female hair option without the hat.
- To bad you can't have the bow/hair ribbon without the veil.
- Overall I'm not all that thrilled with the look of the actual gunslinger parts (i.e. the male/huge ones). The base layer is well enough, but all the extra frills just don't mesh with my idea of a dusty lawman/outlaw gunslinger.
- I'm really glad you have options without the cow skulls on the various items. 'Cause: tacky.
- The male belt is much more 'rodeo clown' than 'dangerous gunslinger' i.m.o.
- The Diamondback pistols would be awesome, if it wasn't for the cow horns on them. Way to theme specific and makes them unusable for all other themes. Things like this really should be avoided i.m.o. See my mix'n match argument a few points back. -
Quote:This!!! So much this!!!A Knight pack does not need a Princess costume. Let a princess costume be paired with a prince costume, not with a suit of armor.
Just as a gunslinger for a gunslinger and a common western dress with common western attire...
Honestly, this Gunslinger pack is about the same as if they released a Doctor Pack that contained a surgeon's outfit for males and a stripper's sexy nurse outfit for females.
I have no problem with these female clothing options being in the game, but it shouldn't have been packaged in the Gunslinger Pack or it shouldn't have been the only female options in the Gunslinger Pack. Those are the two options... Including the saloon girl in lieu of including female gunslinger options is, at best, a mistake.
I was looking for a video clip of the Simpsons episode where Lisa is trying to make a doctor doll (at some make your own doll party thing at a store) and the only option for the girl doll is the nurse outfit.
In my searches, I found this excerpt from that episode. While I don't think CoH has gotten this bad, I just thought it was humorous and, sadly, within range if people can't start to understand why this pack has caused these criticisms.

One other thing...
My personal opinion on the Barbarian Pack is that the only "mistake" along these lines is that the thigh high boots have stiletto (or near stiletto) heels.
I'd like to see the people who designed that and the people who okay'd it to go and explain why those boots have those ridiculous heels to the tough and rugged female barbarian characters of Paragon, Preatoria and the Rogue Isles!
I don't mind sexy girl outfits, but in the Gunslinger pack I really expected to be able to make a female gunslinger! This is just not it!
And I'm STILL pissed off that females didn't get the Baron coat.
