Quote:I don't think any turning down graphics would make a difference. I have had this happen with settings at very low. And unless the game had a graphical engine change over the past 10 months, theres really no logical reason why this would not happen 10 months ago but happen now.Yeah, an NVidia 8300 is pretty weak. It's not really a gaming class card. As you've seen, the game is going to be slow no matter what. I just want to point out that during a Rikti invasion, a lot of "lag" comes from the server anyway. If it's any consolation, I have a very powerful gaming machine and the Rikti raids are pretty much a slideshow for me, too. On your machine, I shudder to think what it must be like.
I have 2 suggestions: First, turn down the max particle count. A lot. Like maybe to 15-20,000 or so. I though I remember a post on the forums that states that 50,000 was way overkill for the game. I keep mine close to 25-30K
Second, just avoid the zone-wide events. They aren't useful for you anyway.
It also isn't normal lag. It's hard to explain but I have had normal lag and this is just completely different. I'm not sure if it's a graphic issue at all.
On an off note, I run rikti raids and never had a problem before. Heck, I used to play the game on a 4400.
I wouldn't really be asking about it if it was something that was always there or was constant but it was not there when I played 10 months ago and I have not changed my graphics settings so it makes no logical sense for it to be there now due to graphics. It also doesn't always happen in response to intense graphics. I ran a rikti raid today without it happening. But yesterday I ran a solo mish and it happened just walking down an empty hall. It's like everything slows down, not just the graphics.
Quote:I'd also recommend updating Windows Vista as it appears to have NO service packs installed. Service Packs include security fixes and other critical updates and resolve several problems.
Since you don't have the Service Packs installed, it's very possible that you havent' done any Windows Updates at all. You can download SP2 through Windows Updates, as well as any other security or critical updates, but it make take running it and installing the patches several times before SP2 is installed.
I'd recommend downloading the SP2 standalone installer instead using this link, saving it to your desktop, running it after the download finishes then reboot and run Windows Updates. After installing the available important updates, reboot and run Windows Updates again, install any available important updates, reboot, repeat until no more important updates are available. Don't install any drivers, especially video drivers, from Windows Updates. Always get driver updates from the hardware manufacturer or your OEM (Gateway in your case). -
Quote:It did like two ticks of 40 or so damage to him every second while about 5 to me. It helped because the AI is stupid and does not try and run out of that lava even when I leave it to deal with the clones. He just sits there blasting me from afar. Therefor the lava is providing a constant stream of damage even while his regen is up. Thats the strategy I used to beat him.I'm not entirely sure how much of an impact the lava made in my fights but the temptation of the lava is too great to not do it.
And when I referred to the entire mish being made to mock my granite, I was also referring to the fact that the map had like 7 of those little hatches you have to jump down :P
Still did it without it :P It was just abit of a pain. And again would be no easier without granite because I'd then need to use rooted for KB protection (and rooted is slower than granite). That or get KB'd everywhere.
I know nothing about the TF nor have I really heard anyone forming teams for it (seems everyone is running TM instead). I don't play my 50's much and don't feel like grinding for incarnate stuff. I actually don't move that slow in granite (around base run speed without sprint or swift). It was more the lack of damage due to granite, not so much the speed. -
Quote:No. It has several worthwhile powers, I just find all the other armors completely situational after granite becomes available.Don't be silly, Stone Armor only has one worthwhile power: Granite.
...
... did I put enough of these in there?
If you want to take a situational power, go ahead. I can't think of many situations I would need it. Also I'd still be slow without granite because rooted puts more slow on you than granite does. And if you tell me not to run rooted then you're basically telling me to be a mezless tank
And I killed him via sitting in the lava with him. Turns out granite is pretty useful for sitting in lava and watching the EB die. -

Trapdoor and the map he was on was hand tailored to mock my stone tanker.

So I just came back after almost a year hiatus and have been having this problem periodicly. When things get really heated (something like a Rikti invasion gathering, for instance.) the game slows down to a near freeze. This doesn't happen instantly and it doesn't always happen in graphic intensive spots. It sometimes happens when just standing around. Leaving the spot does not solve it (and is near impossible because the framerate has basically dropped to like 1 every 5 seconds) and I have found no way to solve it aside from waiting for around 5 minutes in which it magically solves itself. Alt tabbing for a long time sometimes seems to cause it but I can't tell if it actually caused it or I just alt tabbed back in while the game was having a fit.
I don't have a great computer but I don't play on high settings and I never had such a problem when I played before. I don't like joining any teams or anything now because I have no idea when it'll happen. Sometimes it'll go a day and not happen or it could happen several times in an hour. The game is not unplayable (when it isn't happening) but it's not fun to suddenly get a time out for 5 minutes.

I agree with the OP. Nothing in this booster screams high quality or "you should pay money for this because we put more work into it" It isn't poor quality, but it isn't "pay for it" quality. It should of just been free, because I honestly don't feel anything in it besides the power is booster worried. Same with the science pack. I feel "boosters have cool unique costume pieces" peaked at magic booster and have gone down hill since.
Kudos to those who buy it, though! -
GvE edition is 10 dollars at gamestop. And thats the everyday price.
-
I have to agree abit with the OP. While we have got new costume pieces, they're few and far between, unlockables, or just bad (the recent ones were met with alot of dissapointment). It'd be nice if they released simpler versions of some of the booster stuff for free.

Quote:On virtue, I doorsat several farms.Um... You must have never actually played on AE farms. The only people doorsitting were the truly pathetic who were paying people to afk PL them. The rest of us were forming PuGs and doing our own killing of the bosses. Nobody was taking doorsitters unless those door sitters were paying.
And the ones who pay for it are still getting PL'd while door sitting. So...
I did not pay anything.
It was usually a guy or two wanting to test their build who would invite a bunch of lowbies to door sit and soak up XP. They usually used LT's instead of bosses, but the xp easily got me from like 7-24 in an hour.
So yes, there were doorsitters and there were people running doorsit farms. -

Ship raids have been like this for me (on virtue) for ages.

Quote:5 star would read againMy sincere apologies!
I should have realized that the abundance of information might be a tad much for most to comprehend.
I shall try to be a wee more precise in the reasoning behind my (obviously well thought out) nickname in the forums we are currently inhabiting.
Once, when I was a young lad, I bought a marvellous machine for the time for an amount of money that would now seem insane. In fact it was an insane amount of money back then already. It was also the very first machine that I used to go out and visit BBS's with. Ah, the days where you would take hours to download zipped images of DOOM disks, only to find you had to redownload disk 3 again after two hours...
I had a handle then that I honestly don't recall, it was silly though.
Then came better machines, better internetconnections (that by the way still cut you off from the rest of the world unless you had two phonelines in the house or ISDN) and I became more aware of the world around us. Internet Explorer in it's earliest form was awesome, opening a page and waiting three minutes for 256 color images to show, life was grand. But I was not alone out there. The first realization that my imagination was somewhat lacking started to show on opening forums (which in its proper form should be called fora, but that's besides the point) where I would want to post a reply. Names were taken, and not being able to think of proper original names, I was at a loss. I did however keep the strength to not turn to drugs!
At one point internet became a constant. Cable internet and ADSL opened the world to all and insane speeds came about. I entered the world of MMO's with Anarchy Online, a brand new experience for tall me and I adopted the name Oldscotch in there. A name that was not in use and was derived from the presence of a bottle of the stuff sitting next to me on the table. Eventually tired of people calling me old (even though I do realize that time does not halt, even for me) I left that name behind and became something different. It became Pinkfreak. I shall not explain the reasoning behind that one, having thought it up being intoxicated by the live version of my old nickname. Having had a lot comments on that name and being hit on occasionally by people thinking the pink meant I'd be a girl (mhehehe) it became time for something new. A new game came by and suddenly my global was formed after after my first ever 50 villain. Yes, the game was City of Villains and in it, I was a mad woman mastermind commanding the dead. Obviously with the pink in the back of my mind, I didn't want to go there again.
So there I was. Sitting. Staring at a screen, hands hovering over a keyboard as I tried to think of a fitting forumhandle.
I drew a blank. The few enlightened moments I encountered apparently came about because the person that was in the light had stepped away, along with the name that hovered there.
Time passed by. Cobwebs started forming between fingers, making me look like a big fish type figure. But that was taken already. All that swarmed through my mind, by now at wee hours in the night, was an echoing 'Eh' and even that was impossible.
In a stroke of genius or cafein induced moment of wisdom I realized that underscores were characters. And lo and behold, it worked!
So there.. not much of a story I'll admit, but that's more or less the short version of my previous post about my handle..

Back in the day, I used to play the Yugioh card game. In a chat room I used to go to I used the handle "ToonBarrelDragon" (which was related to the card game). People started calling me Toon and the name stuck and I kept using it. Flashforward to I6 when I first signed up, I discovered my coveted name "Toon" was a popular word for "character" in MMO's (COX being my first MMO) so I added a Y to the end and I've been using Toony ever since.

I'm assuming it's just a toggle power like the halloween costume/past hero-con gift things. It'll make you look like that, but you can't change the color/mix and match costume pieces. You'll look exactly like that.

Quote:I'm trying to figure out why my mobs are worth 0 xp. They HAVE powers. Not a ton but they have some. Theres 2 minions, 2 lts, 2 bosses in the group. I'm not reading anywhere why they should be giving 0 xp.My AE story arc, which I worked very hard on, is full of custom critters with custom power selections. I gave minions fewer powers and lieutenants more powers and bosses still more powers. I tried very hard to make things balanced and interesting and wrote a good story to go with it (kind of a short story because I ran out of space).
After having my last team quit due to the low XP, I refuse to lead more groups into my story arc or promote the arc, except to ask the developers to fix this XP issue. I'm done with making stories in AE for now. I may run a few stories with my 50's now and then, but not with my lower characters who need XP.
When this XP issue is fixed, someone please post it loud and clear, cause I won't be visiting the MA forum that often for the foreseeable future.

Quote:QFT.I view taunt on brutes the same way I view confront on scrappers: Useless.
If I need to taunt something, I'll hop over and punch it in the face.
I personally have no problems with those who want to tank on their brutes or be aggro sponges on their brutes or what have you. I simply don't like people who tell me that because they prefer to play that way, or they know others who do, I should as well. I'm not concerned about the teams health on my brute. I am not concerned about aggro. I am only concerned about SMASH and that has worked well for me for 3 years. -

Quote:Can't say I see anything in there about making tankers necessary. Or really representing more than a few end game challenge things.I'll have to see if I can find it, but there was some dev hype post about how it would provide new end-game challenges that surpass "anything that's in the game now", or some such. I'll edit in a link if/when I find it.
Okay, found it - but I needed to go to a secondhand source since TenTonHammer's page that had the full interview kept crashing on me.
From here. -

Quote:Does that mean if a casual player manages to buy a purple/get a purple drop, they're exploiting?By BaB's basically posting a joke about Casual Players purling out their warshades, I think it's safe to assume that the devs did not intend something ULTRA RARE to be for casual players. I tend to take the devs at what they post and not some lala land fantasy.
