  1. In PvP pool powers often do more damage than your primary. I don't know why, and discussing it would derail your topic.

However, the way things work now, you will be more effective taking attacks from pool powers than many of the set. Hence, why a dual build is recommended - one for PvE, and one for PvP.

If you take Dark Melee, you will take it to use Siphon Life and Midnight Grasp. Everything else you'll rely on pool powers for.

How hard is it for you to swallow a few lucks and sturdies to prepare for the oncoming death to follow?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm not going to dignify this with an answer. Dignify's a good word, eh? I hope I used it right.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My apologies if I came across as rude.

Dignify is the right word. I tried to make my point nicely. The harsher way would have been to write LRN2PLAYNUB.

Put nicely, when you do nuke, you are placing yourself at risk. Given how infrequently you use one, it is a good idea to prepare for the aftermath of the nuke. 4 small lucks soft-cap you. Inspirations drop frequently.

Also, I was not very clear about my RP argument. Let me see if I can be a little more clear.

Forget about the game. It stands to reason that if you are taken out, what you created should disappear as nature reverts back to the natural order as the energy you exert to maintain this radically different climate is no longer happening. In comics you see this happen when Storm is taken out after summoning her namesake. In other words, I see it as "working as intended".

However, from a player perspective, I completely understand why you would want this. If I am careless when I nuke, I know I will die. Many players adapt after dying a few times. What I am suggesting is that you change your playing habits so you can enjoy blizzard.
  3. The short answer is it depends.

Electric has 90% energy resistance. You can face pure nrg mobs in AE, so you would be both survivable and have the end recovery tools to keep going.

Invuln has no recovery tools, but can achieve very high S/L numbers for farming the wall in Cimerora. However, a good WP can do the same thing, hence why WP, would be recommended over this, as WP also can face just about anything else.

Now about electric. If you want to roll one because it looks cool, go right ahead. If you want to roll one because all you want to do is farm, you shouldn't. Here's why:

    Lightning Rod:
-Has a 400% dmg cap as it is a pseudopet. At 100% base damage, 180% dmg from fury, and 80% dmg from buildup, and ~95% from enhancements, you have passed the damage cap.
-As it is a pseudopet, any procs in it fire upon YOU, not enemies. At very low health, there is a chance using lightning rod will actually kill you.
-It also has a diminishing damage radius. The further from the center of the strike, the less damage it will do, unlike shield charge (which is totally like unfair).

    Chain Induction:
-The XP bug is fixed. Some people still don't know it is and will LOLz at you. Good luck convincing them.
-Procs in Chain Induction make the power adopt the proc's chance to fire as the chance to jump (meaning you could spam Chain Induction for the next year and not see it jump more than 2-3 times). Don't slot procs in it.

Those are the major bugs in Electric Melee.

So, because of the limitations of Lightning Rod, it really is not the AoE damage king. It is still a good power, and it is FUN. It is not the best. Efficient farmers find the best combination to get the most out of their time, and electric is not it.

Furthermore, Electric's single target damage is not great either (and that's an understatement). You will hate going one on one in fights.

So the next time you think "I'm going to swallow a bunch of reds and Lightning Rod them to death", think again.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
    2) Are you sure about that?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Performance Shifter gives the target the endurance. In an auto power, the target is you. When you use an attack, the target is an enemy, which also includes powers like powersink and trasnsference.

I also would never slot a purple in a toggle. While Armageddon yields better numbers for dam/end, I'd rather place that in a click AoE as part of a set for the accuracy and recharge bonuses. However, Scirocco's works wonderfully in pairs of Acc/Dam/End and Dam/End due to the 10% regen bonus you get. That's why that particular set goes in my damage auras.
  5. I believe the problem here is PEBKAC.

In the course of developing a game, behavioral structure is needed in order to determine what can and cannot be done. Every game has limitations for this reason. To completely rework the code so one certain feature might work in the future would take tremendous effort that could be spent more efficiently on new things (See upcoming releases). Now are you going to suggest that you staying alive is worth more resources to deal with than power customization and going rogue?

    Now gameplay:

You are playing a squishy. If the mob looks at you funny, you die. What you are intending to do is fulcrum shift a mob and nuke it, and who knows what else... that grabs aggro. Given that not every brute out there takes taunt, it is highly likely that you will grab aggro and things will begin to try to hurt you.

How hard is it for you to swallow a few lucks and sturdies to prepare for the oncoming death to follow? It seems to me that if you took this much effort to argue this point, that had you applied the same effort to figuring out how to survive, you just might not even have this problem.

The RPer perspective: does Storm get to cast a storm if she's knocked unconscious?

I don't buy your arguments, and I don't think the developers need to waste any of their time on this when they have more pressing concerns (AE, Rogue, Power Customization).
  6. [ QUOTE ]
ok and how would you slot the powers .....what i find with the electric is that all the powers offer some sort of return on end so what would you slot?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The return on end is random, so you won't be relying on that. However, you can drain endurance effectively with transference, short circuit, and spamming your attacks.

If you choose to go the end-drain route, I would frankenslot using set IOs, meaning finding triples for Acc/Dam/Rech or Acc/Dam/End or Acc/Rech/End Mod to have good modifiers of all four of these stats. That requires a bit of time and infamy. For example, there are two sets at 50 that offer endmod/acc/rech (efficacy adaptor/performance shifter), and thunderstrike offers some triples to round out your damage as well.

Sapping isn't going to be incredibly efficient until you get Transfusion. But between that and Short Circuit, you'll be doing fairly well at sapping - not quite what a defender can achieve, but impressive nonetheless.

However, for my Rad/Kin, I went a different route - softcapping Smashing/Lethal/Energy defense since kins are often facing intense aggro. I personally prefer my softcapped defense for survivability knowing I can jump in the middle of a herd and hit fulcrum without too much fear.

I am also a fan of combat jumping/acrobatics on kinetics. Immobilization is often death for a kin when you are stuck far away from a mob and can't get near them to hit transfusion. The minor status protection of acrobatics helps a little (don't expect brute levels here)

Also, besides taking powers, one of the best ways to improve how you play your kin is binds. Consider something similar to this:

    /bind numpad1 team_select 1
    /bind numpad2 team_select 2
    /bind numpad3 team_select 3
    /bind numpad4 team_select 4
    /bind numpad5 team_select 5
    /bind numpad6 team_select 6
    /bind numpad7 team_select 7
    /bind numpad8 team_select 8
    /bind add powexec_name "Speed Boost"
    /bind subtract powexec_name "Increase Density"

Now I can use my num pad to quickly select a teammate and buff them. It does gets tedious speed boosting players. The last ITF I was on I got irked at a teammate who spammed SB meh while we were facing Rommie not paying attention to the fact that I'm unleashing all my attacks and spamming transfusion so he'd live, as otherwise that AV wasn't going to die before we wiped. Ungrateful, stupid $#%@. (He even seriously asked for SB when I was dead)

In other words. Find ways to make your life on teams as a kin as efficient and survivable at a time. Binds will make you a happier kin.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
why cant you just get 3 dam/acc and 3 end mods?..best of both worlds :P

    [/ QUOTE ]
LR does use a bit of endurance, so slotting Acc/Dam/End triples is one of the most efficient ways to slot it.

    LF slotted for End Drain:

    -Scirocco's- Acc/Dam/End, Dam/End (set bonus 10% regen)
    -MultiStrike- Acc/Dam/End
    -Efficacy Adaptor-End Mod/End Red, End Mod/Acc, End Mod (1.13% hp, 1.5% rec)

    Yielding:
    68.90% acc
    68.90% dmg
    91.78% end redux
    91.78% end drain

In general, if you are looking for efficient slotting, using generic IOs is never the way to go (with the exception of some toggles and hasten). Even buildup can be slotted better with 2 adjusted targetting and 1 recharge IO, yielding a slight to-hit buff and 2% more damage.

There are a myriad of ways you can build your brute with IOs, from incredibly costly to actually being cheaper than generic IOs if you are patient on the market.

edit: a note on triples and quads

At level 50, with IO sets you will often encounter enhancements that affect more than one aspect. What is found is that the further an IO is divided between attributes the greater total effect that IO has in terms of the total numerical value it is applying to everything. For example, if these are all lvl 50:*

    <font class="small">Code:[/color]<hr /><pre>Single attribute IO: 42.4% for one attribute, 42.4% total mod
    -example used [Accuracy IO]
Double-attribute IO: yields a 26.5% bonus to two, yielding 53% total mod.
    -example used [Scirocco's Dervish Acc/Dam]
Triple-attribute yields a 21.2% bonus to three positions, yielding 63.6 total mod.
    -example used [Scirocco's Dervish Acc/Dam/End]
Quadruple-attribute set gives an 18.55 bonus to all four, yielding 74.2% total mod.
    -example used [Obliteration Acc/Dam/End/Rech]
    </pre><hr />
Therefore, if the attributes of a triple IO cover aspects you wish to be used in your powers (in this case recharge is silly in lightning field, so slotting obliteration in this manner is a waste), it is often best to find triples or quads over singles or doubles.** In the case of my example given earlier, in order achieve both high levels of end mod and end redux, I had to choose to slot for a single aspect in one slot, and duals in others. In short, I just ignored my own advice in order to achieve certain numbers. However, without those two triples, my slotting would not have yielded as beneficial results.

*Note: certain attributes such as range, defense, and resistance use a different percentage modifier for balance reasons.
**Note 2: In the case where the set bonuses are desired, a builder may choose to avoid slotting as efficiently as possible knowing the end product with set bonuses will yield better numbers than efficient frankenslotting

I'm guessing that when you say that, you are referring to the number of storage bins an base can have. If that's the case your numbers are wrong. A base can have 18 storage bins in any combination.

That being said, yes more bins would be nice.

The entire SG storage system needs a complete overhaul.

This would go a long way toward helping, but imo, more could be done. Salvage bins need more storage space. We also should be able to use more than 12.

  15. Look at the picture at the top. I posted once about that picture:

Slax believes posi is on a pogo stick. Others believes he REALLY, REALLY has to go potty.

-Posi isn't looking at you, but behind your right shoulder.
-Statesman is rather smug knowing you don't like being stared at.
-Sister Psyche's right eye is infected (the one on the left)

In otherwords, what would be boards be with this troubling image?
  16. I want to throw yellow snowballs during the winter event!

    Never mind.

There are ways in game currently to turn off effects. They are far from perfect, and certainly improvements wouldn't be a bad thing. Not a bad idea, but I would want to place this on the back burner compared to power customization. In any case, if someone really enjoys 'pinkifying' CoH, perhaps it is that person that needs too look within themselves.

In other words - not a bad idea to implement, but I rarely run across griefing issues.

Your post in this discussion is completely un-necessary. You're simply ranting and crying some more. That's not needed here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually that post was probably the most appropriate thus far because it suggested that the most-effective AV and PvP build would be mutually exclusive.

I wanted to post something along this lines suggesting that a PvP build is not always best suited for PvE content. For example, AoE attacks aren't as great in PvP because a lot of your focus is on a single enemy vs. several in PvE.

The complaint about i13 PvP might not have been justified, but to someone that knows nothing about PvP, they might be shocked at the advice that flurry is actually pretty good in PvP.
  18. I should have renamed hero 1 in my story dark tyger, but I thought that would be a little mean.

Mostly, I'm posting because I wanted someone to read my story.
  19. It's rare, but there are people that are newbies with 24 month vet badges that don't know their way around. This is a story about one of those lvl 50s that got lost in Paragon City.

You see, Mr. Recluse one day decided to visit Paragon city in order to stop by and see his old friend States. Upon visiting, he immediately was inundated by something called a sewer team. Out of the blue someone blindly invites him to join their team, which he heads along. After a few of the mobs were killed, one of those strange sewer rats begins saying his experience in the sewers wasn't so great, and they look at this spider dude, and immediately call him a NUB. I mean what kind of lvl 50 AV goes on a sewer team? SRSLY.

So, after being pelted by whatever these sewer rats could find to throw on this odd excremental excursion, Recluse beats a hasty retreat out of the sewers. He begins asking where Statesman is.

NUB, U R 50. U dun now whre teh States iz?

He sighs, and figures maybe he can hop on the train system to find his friend. Upon reaching Steel Canyon, he discovers that this city has not one, but TWO train lines and that apparently he's on the wrong one. He asks again where States is, and gets this answer:

    NUB. Go 2 IP.

Well, Mr. Recluse now runs across town to the green line, wondering why in the world he can't get a taxi. It might be his legs. People always seem to freak out when they see him. (that's ok, Recluse, I'm sure BaB's has problems with taxis too)

When he finally gets to the green line, he remembers what the 'helpful' hero said. NUB Go to PI.

So he goes to Peregrine Island [Port. IP, PI wut?]

Recluse is getting tired of this poorly designed city. He just wants to visit an old friend and got dragged into the sewers and every time he asks where states is, he's ridiculed for not knowing where he is. Just what kind of city is this? Certainly not one of heroes.

So Recluse dares to ask again in broadcast where Statesman is.

Hero 1: PL NUB. U haf a fitty b/c U asked a farmer. Go back to Atlas, nub.
Recluse: Now just wait a minute. That last guy I talked to didn't look like a farmer. Nor do I see any farms in this mess of a city. I didn't like Atlas. All the people there smell like the sewers.
Hero 1: Nub, U think U R too gud for teh sewers. U arnt 2 gud. Nub. Go to atlas.
Recluse: I want to find Statesman. Is anyone going to help me.
Hero 2: Sigh, why do I always have to be the nice one? It's in IP.
    Recluse: I'm in IP.
    Hero 1: ...
    Hero 1: LAWLz
Hero 2: Sigh, you're in Peregrine Island - PI. You are looking for Independence Port - IP. The fastest way is to use your Ouros Portal.
    Recluse: Ouros Portal?
Hero 1: LMAO LOLz, what a nub! HAHAHAHAHAA
Hero 2: Ignore him. Obviously, you're one of those AE babies and know nothing. Better to learn now than never. Here, I'll open one for you. Go inside, climb the skinny bridge thing to the top and get your badge there. Then you'll have an ouros portal.
Recluse: What kind of person puts the access to a device on a skinny bridge to nowhere?
Hero 2: Just do it. It doesn't make sense, I know. Just get the power, go to Independence Port and you should be able to use your map to find him.
Recluse: Map? Nobody gave me a map.
Hero 1: LAWLz. Hit "M" nub.
Recluse: Wow. I didn't know I had that.
Hero 1: SRSLY? It's like even on your screen, nub.

At this point Recluse clicks the portal to end this conversation. Apparently 'heroes' just aren't helpful here.

He climbs up the tower and gets his badge. He heads back to the portal and sees that he has choices on where to go:
Atlas Park: The sewers again? No thanks
    ...
Independence Port: Yes! States, you are so going to be surprised to see your old friend.
    ...Click.

Now, things in IP (NOT PI) are just wierd. So apparently the city planners decided that two trains weren't enough - they needed ferries. Lots of them. Why here's one to Crey's Folly and some other place I don't remember. Oh wait, Striga Isle. What a confusing place.

He locates Statesman in Broadcast. Why is he on a boat next to a helicopter? Why would he stand all day on a boat next to a helicopter? That's boring.

    Recluse: Guess who!
    Statesman: YOU!
Recluse: Hey States, you would not believe the story I have to tell you. The people here have very odd rituals. They all seem to like going in the sewers and call some people farmers, but I haven't seen a single farm in this city. Then I go to IP, but it's not IP, it's PI, so I'm like totally lost, then get taken to this Ouros thing, and in order to get the bloody thing I have to climb this little bridge. Then you have yellow lines, and green lines and ferries to islands and well, it seems to me that your transportation system could use a little work.
States: ... I don't see a problem with the way things work here.
Recluse: Really? Really???? You REALLY don't see a problem with this? REALLY?
    States: Really.
    Recluse: If I was....
States: Now just stop there. You're going back to your delusions of grandeur. You think you know a better way to run things, but you don't. Paragon City is a marvel and our fair heroes were kind enough to show you around the city and all you have done since you've gotten here is complain.
    Recluse: Wait, I didn't....
    States: No, YOU wait....

At this point Recluse has realized that there is no hope of reasoning and that this visit has been a waste of his time. As he nods occasionally to States' ranting, he begins thinking that he could make a better transportation system. Why have trains at all?

The rest is history. Recluse builds himself a city with some help from a few friends like Dr. Aeon. But it seems that you still have the same problems:

There is one key difference, can you spot it?

Nub: Where do I start a SG?
    Villain: It's VG, nub.
Nub: Ok, where do I start a VG?
    Villain: Nub, it's in PO.
    Nub: Ok.

Answer: That's right, there's just one villain there. Not many people actually moved to Recluse's city despite the better transportation system and the fact that nobody EVER has to go into the sewers again. Oh, and there is no OP, so the Nub has a chance at finding PO.

    Brute Offense

You're absolutely right. Brutes need a damage buff like tanks do.

Actually, I'd probably take the tanker resistance/defense stats.
  21. When you get 10% heal unslotted, it isn't a big deal to slot for healing when you can slot for MOAR dmg.
  22. I have a lvl 43 Gaussian's Rech/End

    @Tonality
    @TonalRegress

    Infinity Server.

    edit: Oh UNDER 43.

    Do ya still want it?
  23. I agree that more information would be helpful, but I can outline some general points:

If you are going for running in granite most of the time, you are faced with some -dmg and -rech penalties.

    Superstrength Advantages:
-You would recieve benefit from the FF+rech proc in footstomp, which you would not in lightning rod.
-Rage deals with the damage penalty nicely. You just need enough recharge to keep it perma in granite.
-Footstomp has a 20 second base recharge, which will let you fire your AoE fairly often.
-It fits thematically better. Most people don't think of a typical rock conducting electricity (you could argue it's laden with iron ore or something)

    Electric Melee Advantages:

-Lightning Rod has a short-range teleport built in. Can be handy at times on a stoner. At times, since it has a base recharge of 90 seconds.
-I imagine Jacob's Ladder would look pretty cool on a stone brute.
-You have several AoE attacks (Thunderstrike, Chain Induction, and Jacob's Ladder) to throw out.
  24. I think it is a mistake to build a specialized brute around AE.

Your power choices seem reasonable. The self rez is handy if you can fit it in, especially since fire brutes always feel a bit squishier than other sets.

I see you have built this character to be functional at lower levels and retain set bonuses. I'm curious to know what content you want to do again. I have yet to want to build one for lower content.

In today's market, you have to really want purples to slot for them. If it's going to be "just another fifty", you may want to reconsider. Your build could cost 2 billion infamy easily in the current market. This would not be what I would want to sink 2 billion in.

    Now IO set advice:

Force Feedback is good in footstomp and next-to useless in single target attacks. Take it out of punch. It just doesn't fire often enough. It will fire almost every time you use footstomp if you are saturated.

Then, if you aren't going for the melee defense, touch of death is an expensive set to go for. You could probably find Mako's cheaper for slightly better set bonuses (3% vs 2.5%). The fifth slot could be a proc or frankenslot it for better stats.

You are eating way too much endurance with blazing aura. Obliteration has great bonuses, but you will be happier with your endurance management with scirocco, and gain a bit more regen. I agree, Obliteration is great in burn.

I would try to get more recharge out of consume. SS and Hasten with a lot of recharge will eat your endurance, even with all of that recovery from perf/numi/miracle/imperviums/accolades. You'll need to fire it more than once a minute. Try about once every 30 seconds if you're steamrolling, considering you only gain 2 end/second and your hardest hitting attacks are not slotted for end redux (KoB/FS).

The most useful thing you could do is get consume firing faster and drop that FF proc from punch. That and consider a lvl 50 dual-build as well since you seem to want to do AE. If you have the 2 billion inf to spend, you would be wise to have one built for better high-level content.
