Whats a decent primary for PvP?

I understand that brutes aren't the greatest at PvP, but should I decide to venture into the zones, I at least want to be able to do some fighting.

I don't want to use SS/ due to te rage crash in case anyone is wondering. Thx in advance.

There are three types of people in this world: Those who can count and those who can't.

I just recently resubbed and probably am wrong to some degree here since it's talked about a million times less nowadays, but how about Energy Melee? Long animations = more dmg in PvP now, and the stuns seem like they'd be more effective than they used to be. *shrug*

Maybe Axe/ or Mace/ even, idk.

I'd say Dark Melee. Fear, To-Hit Debuffs, Immob, quick animations minus SM and good damage.

Eh. The quick animations actually hurts damage in PvP, and most are stacked with enough accuracy to make the brief To-Hit buff you might land, to be worthless. And it is hard to land a bunch of little hits.

Not sure how Fears and Siphon Life works these days, and Midnight Grasp might do decent damage...a PvPer will have to chime in.

In my experience, the best PvP I've seen Brutes put out, has been throwing rocks and sharks at people...

DM was slaughtered with the new pvp system. I wouldn't advise it to anyone who wants a real chance at pvp these days. With enough money, the perfect build, a little luck, and an AMAZING player behind the controls, DM can do decent, but I just don't think it's worth it anymore.

The fear is completely useless these days, outside of simply using it as a tohit debuff applicator, other than that it's one of the worst mez effects in pvp right now if you ask me. Before, DM's niche was it's ability to nigh perma-fear someone, however that is not the case anymore.

For pvp, other than SS, I'd probably have to suggest either SM or EM. Having actual "mezz's" and not just Knockdowns, Fears, or Immobs is worth it's weight in gold to a melee toon, as it can temporarily prevent someone from attacking you, slow them down, and shut off debuff toggles (such as Rad Infection).

That is a good point. DM won't be able to shut down toggles.

In PvP pool powers often do more damage than your primary. I don't know why, and discussing it would derail your topic.

However, the way things work now, you will be more effective taking attacks from pool powers than many of the set. Hence, why a dual build is recommended - one for PvE, and one for PvP.

If you take Dark Melee, you will take it to use Siphon Life and Midnight Grasp. Everything else you'll rely on pool powers for.

Fire or Energy Melee are my votes. I don't have much experience anymore but I use to fair well with my Em/ELA Brute even after the changes to ET and TF.

Pretty much this. The given logic for pool powers doing such high damage is due to 1) their activation times, 2) they're powers every AT has access to, and 3) they are available for people whose primary attack set might not be quite up to par. I'm not really sure I agree with that, but it's what I was told. Personally I see point 3 as being a case to look at powersets instead of saying "fine, take these pool attacks instead, screw your attack set" but that's neither here nor there.

To answer the OP though, take a look at Energy Melee and Fiery Melee.

Em has been the top perform for a while in Pvp.

One thing that wasn't brought up I believe is Elec/ How does that perform in PvP. I'm considering trying my had at Elec/Sd but haven't PvP'd in two years.
