Quote:I remember reading somewhere on the boards that the Void in the Midnighters Club was a bug related to that the map is also used in a redside mission so has spawn points.I think that there must be some small random % of this happening, my Bro's WS had a Void Hunter attack us in the Steel Canyon branch of the Midnighter's Club.
It was a bit of a shock, but it does add an element of surprise to the game.
You'd of thought someone noticed the Tautha taking the train t where ever you were. I can just hear the NPC chatter already.
"Hmm, well you don't see that every day."
Not had an ambush track me down while I was shopping but I once saw someone elses Soldiers of Rularuu floating outside a store in Talos. I was "OMG what are those" as I was still relatively new and didn't have a clue. Interesting though that they are able to escape the Shadow Shard now, I think someone should let Portal Corps know! -

A few of mine include:
* Technically Pyschic (Psi/Energy Blaster) - He was an cyborg from created by the Crey using their Tank armour technology. The Crey 'volunteered' one of their scientists to be the test subject but he found out and implanted a code that would disrupt their control over him. He is now on the run from them looking for answers, trying to regain his lost memories. This is something I wrote for him:
Quote:* The Devil Divine (Dark/Rad Defender) - he was captured by the Circle of Thorns due to this innate magical abilities and was used as a portal for a demon summoning. However he was rescued at the last minute but it left him changed."Run, get away". This was the first thing I remembered when I woke up, strapped down and immobilised in a labratory.
There were men around me smiling and shaking hands congratulating themselves at successfuly creating me. What did they mean create, surely I was human?
But I felt different. My skin felt cold and metalic, I could see sound and smells and it felt like there were wires pulsing with energy in my brain.
I then started hear a voice, but it was my voice and it said - "Don't panic, but you're the only one that can hear me. You probably won't remember but this is you. Your name is Sam and you were a junior crey scientist on project Technically Psychic but they needed a test subject. I found out they were going to use me but I didn't have time to escape. All I could do was rewrite the programming they would use in my mind, to keep me conscious and deliver this message. I need to run, escape. Don't let them use me as a weapon, find my memories and bring them to justice. And never forget your name is Sam. I've got to go, they're coming. Remember my name is Sam."
The voice went silent and all was left was the room and the scientists. Was the voice right? Should I run? And how can I forget my name is Sam when I don't even remember it in the first place.
But the urge to run was to great. I felt a surge of energy come from my hands which destroyed my restraints. I seemed to be able to project my will and disable the guards and scientists. And I found I could run, fast. So I did.
I now need to find out the truth. Am I really Sam or have I always been Technically Pyschic. All I know is Im being chased and I need to keep on running. To where I dont know.
* Black Karhu (Tri Fire Tanker) - although the experiment that created him is non-cannon his back story as to why he became a hero is related to the Arachnos.
* Dark Polar Karhu (Dark/Ice Defender) - again his back story is non-cannon but he is from another dimension and made contact with the Portal Corp
* Karhu Junior (Fire/Thermal Controller) - as with the other two Karhu's his origin is non-cannon but he is from an alternative time line and came to be in our world due to Ourborous.
* Shining Darkness (Dark/DB Brute) - she was created by the Circle of Thorns as a magical assassain
* Greg Wise, Charlie Bright, Trick Illusion - they all work for the Hero Corps organisation -
Quote:From a villain point of view the Villain Archtypes you may want to consider either a Brute, Corruptor or possibly Mastermind.I'm completely new to this game, if the title name wasn't obvious enough. I don't really know much about the game but I know that I normally enjoy playing "Tanks" or Healers in most other games.(Also I plan on playing a villain with my friend) Any tips/suggestions?
* Brute - these toons revel in being in the thick of combat, they gain a damage boost via their inherent power 'Fury' for each time they attack and are attacked. So although their main function is hit stuff they also have some tools (e.g. Taunt) to help manage agro for a group.
* Corruptors - these toons have a mixture of damage and support. The classic 'healer' isn't as present in CoX as it is in other MMOs. Some of the support powersets contain heals or varying strength but their main focus is either buffs or debuffs which can be very powerful.
* Masterminds - these toons are a self contain team in themselves. Their primary powers is summoning their pets which do their damage and their secondary powers are the same as a corruptors and are designed to buff/debuff.
If you and your friend venture hero side (or you are around for Going Rogue expansion) you may want to consider:
* Tanker - these toons main job is to manage agro for a team. They have an inherent power which agros the target of their attack and those around them. They have strong defences and some decent damage (although not as strong as Brutes, but Brutes don't have the survivability of the Tanker).
* Defender - these toons are the opposite to a corruptor. They get the same powers but their primary and secondary powersets are reversed. They get strong buffs/debuffs (and some heals) but do less damage.
* Scrapper - These toons are pure melee attackers, although not as naturally as good as managing agro as a Tanker or Brute particular combos are still good at it.
Hope that helps
Edit - but as Willowpaw says (very rightly!) give lots of different things a try. CoH encourages playing different alts (including allowing 12 character slots on each server and being able to buy/earn upto another 24 per server on top of that!). Also different powersets within an Archtype play very differently to each other. -
-
Should we all prepare to be Noob Busted on a more regular basis?? hehe
And gz -
Generally I'm not bothered by the AT mixtures we have. Sometimes if people offer and we are leaning towards a lot of offensive ATs (scrappers, blasters, tanks) then I will ask for some sort of support toon (controller, defenders) but thats about it but I wouldn't say what powersets etc.
I think this stems from going in a Moonfire TF many a moon ago (pun intended!) and once the team had formed a scrapper saying that we really should have a tank. No one really wanted to switch so I volunteered and logged off my blaster (which I really wanted to play!) and logged in my tank. The scrapper then went onto tank the entire TF and it left me a bit bitter because I really wanted to play my blaster. -

I don't get particularly bored with my Bots/Traps MM. After I have set up all my traps what keeps me busy is:
* Healing my bots with repair/heal other
* Using web grenade and web envelope to keep things in place
* Using Photon Grenade to stack stuns and add a little damage
* Micromanaging my Bots
I think for me its the last one of micromanaging my Bots which keeps me busy, telling them where to go and who to attack.
Also although people have said solo AVs or crank up the difficulty I think that might just bore you more as it would mean standing around more.
I would recommend the opposite. I currently run on +0/x4. I could probably crank it up a bit but at this difficulty it allows me to have quite a quick pace so I am not standing around to long on one mob.
But it could well be a rather passive 'drop it and leave it' secondary like traps (and forcefields for example) might not be for you. -
Ive got a few:
1) Get every AT to 50, currently have Tanker, Defender, Blaster, Controller blueside and a Mastermind Redside
2) Finishing writing the second issue of the Chronicles of Karhu (issue 1 was finished ages ago and you can read it here)
3) Finishing writing my AE arc 'The GGRRR Kitten Conspiracy'
4) Finishing writing bios for all my characters
5) Write some fanfiction around some stories I have in my head
6) Finish purpling out my main toon
7) Play every story arc (red and blue) via Ouroborus (I think Im about 2/3s the way through it!)
8) Do the Shadow Shard TFs -
Quote:See thats one of those headache multi dimensional questions your not meant to ask.You know I never got how they had two Infernals I mean Primal Infernal is already from another dimension, as is Praetorian Infernal, so that'd make Praetorian Infernal, Primal Infernals double from another... another dimension.
Of course that raises a question...
Where are Praetorian Rikti?
Since like Praetorian Infernal, they'd be from a fourth location, not Pratorian, or Primal or Rikti homeland but a seperate Rikti place...
How I see it is that when Infernal was thrown into Paragon's Earth the circumstances could have gone in an infinite different ways creating infinite more dimensions. Only two of those possibilities is our infernal and the praetorian infernal.
There could be a primal earth exactly the same as ours where infernal didn't arrive, or arrived somewhere else or was found by someone else etc etc. So there could be other versions of the praetorian infernal where he fights for the reistance etc.
NOW with the Rikti, we only know one version of the praetorian earth. So there could be others where circumstances led to the rikti invading or coming and making peace etc.
Its the whole thing of infinite decisions/variables each leading to the creation of infinite number of earths some being nearly identicle some being completely different. -
For me:
Propel - nothing says crime fighting like chucking a toilet at someone
Singularity - my little controller tank in a pocket
Terrify - I will hurt you all and you will be to scared to do anything
Oil Slick Arrow - BURN BABY!
EMP Arrow - Best AoE hold EVER!
Parry - You can soft cap your melee defence in your teens with this power!
Soul Drain - All I have to say is Mwahahahahaha
Lightening Rod/Shield Charge - Nothing else quite makes the right entrance!
Power Surge - one of the best animations ever!
Fault - when you've played at juggling mass enemies you'll understand
Plus quite a few other people have already mentioned!
PS - I think special mention go out to the entire powersets of Traps, Robotics, Radiation Emission, Dark Miasma and Force Field -
I noticed that to and thought I woud love that holster thing to! If players could get it it also suggests (please note speculation begins here) there may an introduction of asymetrical leg pieces.
-
Wow - good time! Well done guys
I need to join one of these all Storm events with my Grav/Storm or when my Storm/Dark is a bit higher, they look like fun -
I also forgot to mention duel Katana/Pistol ala Spark Blade
-
Quote:Apart from the Spines/Regen brute I would love these.Hmmm...
Toxic blast/poison corruptor
Psychic/psychic defender or Mind/Psychic controller
Battle strategy/AR defender or Merc/Battle Strategy mastermind
Shield/Broadsword tank
Spines/regen Brute
Dark/dark dominator
Some sort of Psychic Support set would be cool - maybe based around drain psyche debuffs, telekinetic shields etc - and I would love to reroll my Sonic/MM as a Psychic/Sonic defender.
And I love the idea of Battle Strategy set - maybe something with variation on leadership pools mixed with moral support powers (kind of anti-pain).
And Dark Control is definitely a must
I would also like to see Dark Miasma for 'trollers so I can roll a Illusion/Dark and Mind/Dark controller
On top of that an Ice/Spines tank for the ultimate agro aura combi and Ive got a concept for Invulnerable/Katana tank which I would like
I would also like to see some sort of tech or munitions APP for controllers and defenders
Edit - another idea Ive had is a Katana/Kinetic or Dual Blade/Kinetic. -
Quote:As you say we don't have the numbers so I can't agree or disagree with you there but there are also NCSoft and CoX presence at US events such as PAX and HeroCon to take into account. I know you are in the same position as the rest of EU as you are based in Poland but presence of such events may affect the population of the NA servers which you play on.The advertising NCSoft does for the NA version is miniscule compared to the size of the potential market. We don't have access to the exact numbers, but if you compare like for like, factoring in the populations of the respective markets, I'd be willing to bet that the EU would come out on top if advertising media that applies to both (online advertising, interviews with devs on massively.com etc) is included.
Quote:If you've never heard of Steam, then you are definitely in the minority of the PC gaming market. Coca Cola doesn't try to attract customers who only take notice of adverts placed in Potato World Magazine, for sound economic reasons.
Quote:Historical meaning they no longer apply?
Quote:Dial up? Next you'll be complaining that CoH won't run on your green-screen monitor, and bemoan the lack of support for MS-DOS. Give me a break.
And there is a whole thread dedicated to those who use dial up here http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=203234.
And I am still considering importing a copy of the GR box from America (even though the serial codes won't) for the fact it will still be quicker for me to install the game from that and manually change the cohupdater file than it would be for me to spend ages downloading the whole game again.
Quote:I know that Brits like to moan, I'm a hated figure in my local branch of Empik (Polish version of Virgin) because of my demanding customer service requirements, but you lot seem to me to be bellyaching about a lot of really minor crap. I feel for you if you think you don't have large enough server populations - I actually shudder when i think of being made for some reason to move to the EU servers, mostly because of the fewer players that I hear are there (and I've got no actual numbers to look at) and the comparitively small number ofservers - but ranting in caps about GETTING SHAFTED because they're only releasing GR digitally in the EU is way over the top IMO. It's EASY (I don't care what Luddites on dial up think) to purchase GR in the EU. With prepurchase, you'll be able to take advantage of a pre-download too, very probably, as they do with the normal upgrades, so when you log off, it'll dl and ready the game for you while you're asleep. This is speculation on my part, of course, but even if they don't, waiting overnight for it to dl is NOT an onerous task for any mature person. Screaming 'I WANNA BUY IT IN THE SHOP TODAY, I WANTS IT NAOW!' just looks childish.

Quote:I think the majority has been discussed in this thread but there is a general feeling among the EU community that NCSoft don't seem to care what happens to the EU servers. If you're so hung up on getting a bit of cardboard, buy the box online and stick it on your shelf, and buy GR EU digitally. Yeah, you'll have to pay twice, but think of all the moaning you'll save yourselves.
Sheesh. Anyone would think we were living in 1910, not 2010. It's a cardboard box and a bit of plastic, for Pete's sake! And moaning about bandwidth is ludicrous. What, do you guys play on a Babbage Engine? The game's gotta be a max of 10gig. That's an overnight dl even for someone at pathetic download speeds.
Eco.
PS isthat it, then? Its the lack of a box for your shelf that's the big disaster? Only the title of the thread is 'EU shafted AGAIN', so i wondered what there was before.
Although some have said they would like to own a boxed copy of the game for collection purposes it also represents a lack of shelf or online shop presence (e.g. amazon, play.com). There is a concern that the fact that NCSoft aren't willing to invest resources into advertising the EU side of the game that they don't care about the servers and are willing to let them just die, unlike the NA servers which they are trying to attract more customers to.
I know have read arguments about Steam(?) the online store but I hadn't even heard of that until the threads about this mentioned it, so there are probably others out there to!
There are also others historical things such as the closing of the Brighton offices, the loss of EU side specific maintenance times, the EU website/old forums/updater not being updated at the same time as the US ones, EU not getting access to closed betas, the belief after the EU didn't get the MA boxset we would get the next big box release (ie GR) not happening to name just a few.
And honestly I think having to wait overnight to download a game in which I could play in 15mins from a disc installation is rediculous. Some broadband providers actually limit the amount of data you can download, some people have to share an internet connection (I know I have to negotiate with my other half when I want to play and when they want to download stuff) and some people still play on a dial up connection. -
-
You are very right there. I used freetranslation.com and a couple of other free translation sites to get a Finnish name for one of my toons. I settled on Karhu Varjo but then was told by a Finnish in game friend of mine it should have been Varjo Karhu!
-
Hey its free! I will admit the translations are rarely perfect but I've always found it good enough to get the understanding of whats being written.
And for someone who struggles with English as their first language its better than nothing! lol -
Quote:I was reading in one of the threads about I17 and someone did speculate that the whole 'Dark Mirror' thing revolved around Mirror Spirit or her praetorian counterpart in someway.Foreshadow and Mirror Spirit feature in the comics and the movies so I'm guessing they just needed a bit of a tweak and here they are.
Particularly due to the idea of the, mirror, the 'blow for blow' thing and the new Positron TF ends in Faultline.
Sorry I can't directly the person who came up with the idea but I can't find it
