Quote:The answer is that at the time you set the deadline you think it realistic. Then all sorts of pitfalls and problems arise while you're working to that deadline that you didn't expect, so you have to revise. In short, people are fallible, they make very educated calculations about what they believe will happen in the future, but naturally none of us can know for sure. Unless you're holding out on us with your own O-Portal technology?Dont get me wrong I want them to take time and get it right. I have just never understood why you would give any kind of time frame if you dont think you can meet that deadline.

*raises fingers to temples* I predict much joy, peppered with doom.
The intended effects expected are of course for the redside economy to become more stable with prices trending downwards. Because so many smart people have written long explanations about how this works (most of it going straight over my head) I'm going to take their word for it until the nay-sayers are proven right by the evidence. -
This news seems to have made many people happy and a few people unhappy. As I don't spend a lot of time on the market I fall into the middle ground, I'm indifferent to the news. Just call it another shade of gray. It's great that this should apparently remedy a problem with the red-side market (hadn't noticed it myself really, don't buy top-end stuff), and will mean less dev-devoted time to maintaining the systems if the markets hadn't merged.
As I've been in the vocal minority in the past (in-game ads) don't be too harsh on those who don't share your joy. Hopefully the many and splendid other features of Going Rogue will have something to keep them playing. -
Best birthday wishes to you Posi! Enjoy yourself!

Nice job! Welcome to the forums!

Yep, got one of these, neither a subscriber to Aion nor French speaking. Someone's email recipient selection got out of hand I'd say.

Hrmm, Reichsman, Reichsman, Reichsman. In true comic-book fashion I find the alternate dimensions of the CoH multiverse tend to revolve around one critical event in the origins of the protaganist.
"This Marcus Cole, from an alternate dimension, was a rogue and a mercenary who was exposed to mustard gas during World War I."
Around October 1918 Hitler was blinded by a mustard gas attack.
I can easily imagine a finely crafted backstory for Reichsman which centred around how Marcus Cole had heroically stepped in to prevent a young Hitler from the effects of the same gas attack. Perhaps he handed the young soldier his own gas mask for arguments sake. This led to those two individuals having very different lives from their counterparts on Primal Earth.
The self-sacrificing act which Hitler witnessed might have made him a more compassionate individual not interested in ruling the world, and Marcus Cole found the Well of the Furies as a result, drank the waters there and became Incarnate. With such raw power, and seeing how his sacrifice wasn't rewarded, he became Reichsman.
That's my guess anyways. -
Welcome to the forums Protean! Your previous arcs mentioned above are very good and I hope it's a sign of things to come of your work on Going Rogue. Good luck keeping the story lore straight, when you have interdimensional and time-travel to cope with you've got your work cut out for you!

Awww. I'll stop now. I was just going through the motions of doing all these nice screenies and everything.
To CFIndustries: Yep, this method get's you nice shots like you're after. -
You could Demorecord your character in a short clip, then change the MAP to an invalid one to get a nice blank black background to work with.
eg.
1 0 Version 2
0 0 Map maps/City_Zones/City_03_01/City_03_00.txt
0 0 Time 0.000 -
Just goes to show some people's intense desire for 'free loot' overwhelms their ability to think rationally. A torrent version for a game that requires an account to connect to the servers ain't gonna work (unless they come with hacked accounts I guess), then to top it all of this is despite them already having the game! Too weird for words.

A quick check of the wiki and I've learnt something today. Shows that this game has so much content that even ardent fans like myself haven't seen / remembered it all. Of course old-canon is old. There could be a retcon of this.

Quote:Whirlwind ... travel power? I take it you've never played Bowling for Skulls with Whirlwind as it is now, mucho fun! My namesake toon has Superspeed and Whirlwind, add some power color customisation and that's what you've seen in the video. It's a good promo video, aiming to get people who may not have heard about CoH/V for a while (or even at all) to think about the game.
With that in mind, I really hope some of those effects weren't devs adding in cool things players will never be able to do. Because people get annoyed when they see a video showing a whirlwind travel power they can't get in-game. Especially if the selling point is "you can make any kind of character you want!".
So, nobody interested in the Nice Axe / Woodsman link? -
I was one of those lucky few who 'previewed' this video before the official release. Hey, I didn't know I wasn't meant to!
But I loyally sat on my hands and keep marketing's secrets safe. Now everyone gets to see it...whee!
I loved the inclusion of the Devs in the video, previous promotional material focussed solely on in-game footage or CGI trailers, this was something very different to that. Certainly none of our beloved Devs have a future in acting, but they sure got across the enthusiasm and love for the game they have.
The video shows lots of new information about Going Rogue for us die-hards I think. A good overview shot of Praetoria, PPD in action, Praetorian Clockwork fighting, Maelstrom and Desdemona rendered in-game, etc, etc.
Yes, Sexy Jay is not 'Sexy Jay', the video is no longer rated with the infamous "T for Teen" either, but I think you're all missing something. He had now become "Nice Axe" (amusing pun btw), and as we're in Praetoria, then surely this has to be the Praetorian version of Woodsman! Same face, same muscles, same beard, except of course in the topsy-turvy world of Praetoria he may no longer be the eco-saving hero we are familiar with.
I give the video 8/10 (yeah, I still wanted *moar*), but that will surely be coming in Part 2. Good work Devs, production team and even marketing...special thanks to whoever forgot to make the FTP site private, I felt special for a week. -
Quote:Nice! I've never seen the show, but yeah, like that, but with less fluro jumpsuits and more shoulder spikes!*scrambles for Chrono Morpher*

I'm all lined up for my digital download (non-Complete Collectors) prepurchase. I can't change that now, and that's okay. I'm at peace with my purchasing decision. It would have been extremely foolhardy for NCSoft / Paragon Studios to overlook this opportunity and I applaud them on getting quite the coup in that regard. There are some extra goodies, as stated, of most benefit for new players. It isn't unheard of for these sort of things to eventually become available via download / booster pack (ie. Prestige Sprints etc). That may happen in time.
I have moved on, now I just await the day my new Rogue or Vigilante can storm the streets of Praetoria! -
Citadel
What can I say, I've got a thing for large robots. -
Good info in this update! Yes, resocialisation and reeducation are the key! With these two tools and a powerful legion of psychics Praetoria will be safe...safe to lie crushed beneath Tyrants iron jack-boots!!
Down with Tyrant and his cronies, Vive la Resistance!!! -
Quote:I can still see this fitting my theory. It is a 'temporal invasion'. Forces from across time sent to 'present-day' Paragon / Rogue Isles, a crucial juncture in the timeline to wreak havoc. Imagine that somebody / something is trying to change the timeline, they start with altering where the Shivans land, instead of relatively containable Bloody Bay they land in Atlas Park, Paragon Central. That would have massive causal flow-on effects. Of course who has the power to alter the trajectory of a meteor? Shiva itself maybe.I don't know. Mender Lazarus slips at one point and says 'invasion' instead of 'coming storm,' and the Shivans are known to be scouts for whatever the 'Coming Storm' is (it is a Shivan meteor that starts the whole event). So whatever is going to go down, it involves a tangible hostile invasion force.
As for Leonard Silmon, personally I think he's an example of that classic comic book staple, the high-profile businessman who takes on the alter-ego of his super-powered bodyguard to conceal his identity. Somebody mentioned an anagram for his name is Lord Lions Mane or somesuch...well gee, they spelt it out for us. -
There ya go Damz! You have step by step instructions on how to attain your goal, now all you have to do is..."make it so".
-
I don't think there's any strong correlation between 'in-game' time and real time. I always view things like this; my new character completes the tutorial and it's shortly after the Rikti War, events unfold as my character does missions, in-game time passes. With each new toon, time 'resets'. The events of Going Rogue etc are certainly meant to be at least a few years after that.

Indeed! One being the truth, the other being the propaganda. That Tyrant's sneaky like that!

Quote:"It goes on like this for about an hour or two and then my machine shuts down all together."As for the laptop I updated it's ATI Raedon drivers if that's what you meant.. because I have NO idea what OpenGL is supposed to mean.
For my desktop Everest Home Diagnostic reported temperatures of 30 degrees celsius while idle and some other device in my computer at 38 degrees. I have no idea what it is, as it's named as some huge serial number, but if I had to guess it's my graphics chipset. I launched CoH and ran around on my blaster and there was no change in temperature and my computer eventually shut down again with no warning. As I mentioned earlier I'm suspecting a faulty power cord or something related to the way that the machine gets electricity.
Good crashes take time. Have you played for an "hour or two" monitoring the temperature? I wouldn't discard it as a possible cause just yet. You might be right about the power cord, it's possible. Changing it for another known good one and playing for an hour or two to see if the problem persists should tell you whether it's a contributing factor or not.
That 'other device', if it's your graphics chipset, is kinda warm, and after playing for an hour or two might peak over into the 40 degrees range, which is not good.
