The Devs have provided us a means to change our names because there is a player demand for that. But I suspect that for all intents and purposes they would rather -not- allow us to do that if they had their way about it. Bottomline I doubt the Devs of this, or any MMO, would ever make it trivially easy to change names because there's ultimately more problems with that than it's worth.
If you're right, that they price them such as to prevent people from changing their toons' names every 5 minutes (and I suspect you are), then I don't believe offering VIP's a Rename Token a month would be bad. They could only do one free rename a month at max, and that doesn't seem like too much at all. It'd be nice for times where a name became available that you wanted to use on a toon you'd already committed to or if you were changing the concept of a character but not restarting it. It's totally a QoL thing, I get that, but more variety for the VIP's can't be a bad thing.
  2. If I really wanted or needed one I'd definitely buy it, but I still think it's kinda steep.

Ultimately what I'd like to see is that instead of a free Transfer Token every month that we get to pick between two or three different tokens, like Rename, Transfer or Character Slot. I know that I never use Transfer Token's, so they're kinda diminished as a bonus to me personally, but eveyone is different.
  3. First off, I'm not a Paragon Store price basher, so please don't think that's what this is.

But why are those rename tokens so darned expensive? I know they're the same price as they've always been, but I've never been able to figure out why something that is handled by the automation of the game system cost as much as it does.

ADDENDUM: Specifically, the conundrum is that these powers were added because the original 4 powers at the end of the travel pool trees weren't considered very good. If the new powers are only barely more attractive than the old, then the situation hasn't changed. Any arguments about getting three power picks for "free" are moot because that also applied to the existing powers. Acrobatics itself has actually never been a terrible power, but the cost of getting it makes it relatively unpopular.
Ah, but as a player who hadn't played since before they added Inherent Fitness, it really DOES feel like I'm getting free power picks, at least from my point of view. I've taken powers from pools I've never even touched before because now I have the room to do so. It's very freeing. I took Long Range Teleport on my Elec/Time Controller because it fits his concept of being able to step through time and space and also because it's kinda useful. I picked up the stealth pool on another toon I'd never have considered it on before.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the new T5's and my "free power picks".
  5. I agree with this. I think it sounds like a great idea, and I wish that other Power Pools would get 5th tier powers also.

    - The kind that concentrates on scatter

On teams, scattering stuff, esp. with Tornado, Gale or Hurricane, is often frowned on.

Earth Control starts with much lower damage but has very powerful control abilities and is probably one of the loudest and most visually dramatic combos you can play, with constant CRASHes and screen shake effects going off.
And BECAUSE Earth is so control heavy, it has built in defenses against Storm's crazy KB fest. I've spec'd my Tornado and Lightning Storm for damage and use Earth's massive control to keep everyone firmly planted while they get grinded down. Tornado often sits in one spot, smacking around two or three guys at close range. Lightning Storm fires out bolts in all directions, but no one goes flying anywhere. Animated Stone doesn't really have to chase anyone down so he just sits there playing the bongos on insert bad guy's name here. Tex wasn't kidding when he said it's a visually dramatic combo, but it's also an extremely satisfying combo that will let you feel arguably more important to the team dynamic than you probably really are because it's JUST SO DAMNED LOUD. WHAT!?
  7. I'm totally in line with Sayaki on this one. Outside of PvP, concept is king. It doesn't matter whether a power is perfect numbers-wise, as long as you like the power. The main draw of Afterburner is that it's freaking COOL! With Inherent Fitness now, we could all afford to take a "Cool" power or two.

Hell, I took Spring Attack on my Inv/Stone Tanker because a.) It fits the concept of the character as a highly acrobatic, hard and fast striker and b.) It's just fun! It doesn't matter that my tank already has plenty of control, KD/KB, and AoE attacks. It's cool and I like it. What more reason do you need?

I would also point out, we're apparently getting THREE different builds on each character now, which is great. Why can't people just have a "Fun Build" and relax?
  8. I swear, people get butt hurt over the silliest things. NOW NOW NOW, we must have everything now!
  9. OK dude. That was, like, a lot of math...and stuff. But I think the general idea is you're saying that alone, the proc rate is crap, and together, the proc rate is still crap. Gotcha.

BTW, Tex, huuuuge fan of your play on words. The toon names in your signature are hilarious.
  10. I have a Dark/DP Defender that is the ONLY Defender that I've ever played past lvl 14. I love him. The Dark set is very controllery, and you can use Swap Ammo to great effect as a support character rather than worrying so much about damage. Toxic ammo is especially nice for it's -dam and Cold is great for the slow effect.
  11. I'v been having a blast with my Elec/Time. I love the fact that the two sets mesh so well what with the melee range thing. It's fun to just stand in the middle of a crowd and watch everyone's End bars just drop and never come back up.
  12. ...both a Induced Coma: -Rech AND a Pacing of the Turtle: -Rech both in Static Field? Will the effects from both stack for like a 40% chance for 40% Recharge redux plus what you get from Static Field itself?

    Corrupt Pigg

I too am having this same problem, always in AP. I've had the game freeze here and there during loading, but I've been getting this specific bug in AP, multiple times a day.

I think this one sentence can sum up the TC's entire problem. It's not that there are really too few respecs in the game, it's his brain getting in his way.

Sorry dude, you're just gonna have to learn to stop listening to your brain, because I've got respecs falling outta my ears. If you really need to respec your toons more often than every 10-15 levels (at most), then I don't know what to tell you and I don't think that there's anything anyone can tell you to make it better.
  15. Hey Thor, everyone. I'm on three or four nights a week from anywhere between 11 and 4 am est, almost always on Justice, so hit me up if you're looking for another team mate. I've got a wide range of stuff to bring to teams. Just recently got back into the game after a 14 month break, so I'm down to do almost anything.

    Cho!

I'm not really a fan of Lady Gaga, but that was some fantastic choreography and voice work by a bunch of people that will probably be drunk and lying in their own vomit by 10 PM.

Yeah, I remember a time when you actually needed to use the fire escapes while traversing the city. Thank Gawd that time is passed for the most part.

DC Online does look cool, but it's most likely gonna feel like a third of a game compared to CoX's six years (probably seven by the time DCO comes out) of content.

    VEATs and HEATs

As someone who only gets to play an average of three nights a week for about 2-3 hours, I'm all for it. It took me a while to get a 50 hero-side and since I rarely play Villains, it'll be nice to be able to test out a VEAT finally.
  20. The toons in my sig are the ones that have stuck.

My Earth/Storm troller is probably the most fun I can have in game, if not a little boring. He just holds the hell outta everything. So much chaos is just plain fun!

My new Dark/Dual Defender is my current favorite. It's just the perfect balance of damage, debuff and flashiness. So much fun to play.
  21. Massive Knockback makes everything better.
  22. LOL, what a great thread!

When I'm tanking (Lvl 50 Inv/Stone/Stone), it's run and smash time. I just keep going till I'm either asked to stop for a moment or I run outta End. Even then, as long as I've got enough End to run my toggles and keep things bouncing up and down then I'm happy. If you wander off, I make no guarantees.

I don't actually have any scrappers over level 12, but I get Blasterlock sometimes. You know how it is. You try to get a little better angle for a Cone or you accidently chase a quarry into another mob or you piss off the wrong Boss. It happens.

I'm not even sure what you're trying to spell there? Gtfo? I think you're missing some vowels or something. Oh wait, I'm being informed by top news sources that "gtfo" is an anagram for...oh my. On a PUBLIC forum nonetheless! SHAME!

On topic: Being able to spread around your debuffs is great, so I don't suggest skipping either power.
  24. Another vote for Earth/Storm here. I have one at level 45 and he is the master of locking down. Some people say that it's too much control, and to those people I say thee nay. You are fools. There is no such thing as "Too Much Control". Gale even becomes super useful on this build because if someone steps off my Freezing Rain or Quicksand I just blow their ***** back on. Some people might even consider it a boring build, and that I'd almost agree with because it really is one of the easiest toons I've played yet.
  25. As someone who has never gotten a Defender past level 20 (I gravitate towards blasters and controllers and my only 50 is a Tank), decided to do a Dark/DP and I love it. It's very controllery and I really enjoy the elemental diversity of DP. I think this'll be the Defender that I take all the way (eventually, damned alt-itis).
