After reading all the posts so far in this thread, I'll throw in my two cents:
- for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT EVER put in a BoA mechanic into this game. It is the most moronic concept I've ever heard of for an MMO.
- the markets are fine. If anything, I'd say raise the inf cap so people aren't forced to avoid the market for ultra-high demand items. I've seen one offered at 6 billion!
- please, please, please do not try to curtail the storage available. It's one of the things I love about this game and in fact is the ONLY MMO I know of to let you have so much.
- If you can't make money on the markets, you really aren't trying. In 30 mins per day, it took me 10 whole days to make 1 billion redside. No spreadsheets, no tracking, just a little bit of looking at what was in demand. FWIW, it's takes me about a month to do it blueside using the same lazy methods.
I really don't understand what problem needs fixing, aside perhaps from some rarity of purples redside. However, with the coming GR update, I forsee more players enjoying the superior redside content, and thus generating more supply. -
Is there a way to set up a chat channel so that it only shows drops; recipes, enhancements. I know there is one for rewards, but it always shows inf and presitge gain as well. The problem is that if you kill several mobs at once (not that hard to do), and you get a drop in there somewhere, it often scrolls up out of sight. I know I can down scroll and find out what the drop was, I just wondered if there was a more convenient way.

I have a friend who plays about four months every year. He is on dialup and while it works fine for him on small to mid-sized teams, the updates can be brutal. Some can literally take days for him to download.
I live not that far away and have a high speed connection. Is there any way I can download the necessary files, burn them and then get them to him that way?
Or, perhaps any other method I can't think of?
Also, will Going Rogue be purchasable through a hard copy, or will it strictly be a downloadable update? (which would be nearly impossible for my friend to do). -
I tried this for a bit. The problem is with any knockdown power (which I love), they become knockback to greens or less. This seriously slows my farming. So I tend to run missions at -1 set for 5 people and I still get lots of level 50s.
-
To each his own. I have never liked this zone. When I first saw, it did bring back some fond memories of old Steve Ditko Dr. Strange comics, but I find the whole thing a big pain to navigate. I avoid this zone like the plague.
-
I've been playing my elec brute alot, and with all his lovely AoEs, it's a pain when some mobs stay out of my range and plunk away. What would be the best mob-type to fight redside where I can expect the majority of enemies to close in?
Yes, there are techniques I can use to gather them up more, which I do, but I'm still curious regarding the above question. Longbow, for example, are a pain, as they all seem to be mainly ranged attackers (hence the name, duh). -
If I had to guess, I'd say some of it's semi-uniqueness is part of the problem. It doesn't have a lot in the way of endgame raids like most MMOs do (I consider this a plus). But the biggest point for me, and I honestly do not know of even ONE other MMO that has this, is that it's possible for the soloer to get any uber loot they want without ever having to group to do so.
To be fair, maybe there are a few badges or accolades that require a team, but I'm referring to the top recipes/enhancements. Because of (IMO) moronic mechanisms like bind on acquire, no other MMO, and I'm mean none, seem to allow for this. It is this utter solo-friendliness that keeps me coming back to CoH time and again. Although I also feel one man's plus might be another man's minus. If you're the type of player who loves grouping and doing quests that cannot be done without, CoH might be a bit thin in the content for you. -
Today I was doing a mission redside where I had to prevent an elite boss from escaping. His name was Agent Crimson for those who know this mission. This is the last mission in a short arc.
I fight my way through on my brute, clearing everything, and then find him. I get him to half health and he starts running. I am dogging his heels the entire time, and I hit him about 7 or 8 times on his way out. Nothing I hit him with made him turn and fight, he just kept running. He gets to the exit as I hit him yet again, and then he leaves and I get a mission failed, and a reward of 2 merits.
Wow. Call it bitterness if you want, but I found this a thoroughly unfun ending to what was an otherwise enjoyable arc. Being an elite boss, he had a lot of health. I'm not sure how a soloer is supposed to complete this. Perhaps those villains with lockdown powers would've had an easier time, but even my knockdown powers did not knock him down when they hit.
I've never been one to enjoy any type of quest (in any video game) where not dying/giving up can still result in failure. At least the escort quests in this game only have the escort recaptured and still able to be re-freed, as compared to other games. I also tend to simply select and then ignore any timed missions. Sometimes I just do another quest or even log off once the timer starts.
Anyway, give me quests where I can hammer away at them repeatedly until I get it right over some of these alternative type missions, or perhaps the missions could offer multiple goals to succeed, instead of just one.
Forgive me if I sound too rantish, but this last mission left a bad taste in my mouth. -
I'm gonna say no thanks. At the least, it's not a service I would ever use. Although I wouldn't mind being able to start my alts at level 14....
-
I have an energy blaster who is heavily slotted for knockdown/knockback. Some of his powers certainly do less damage than they could, but I am often able to knock mobs off their feet and against a group of say, 3 melee mobs, rarely do any of them actually get to me due to repeated knockdowns.
However, I have been on teams that hate this build and ask me not to knockdown so much, which effectively means not using about half my attacks at all. Thus, he tends to solo only, but I find him hella fun to play. -
One of my best friends plays on dial-up. His connection is such that if an expansion like Going Rogue is only available through download, he cannot get it. A full update takes him a solid week! That's 24 hours per day for 7 days of non-stop downloading!

I've been away for a few weeks, having left shortly after I16 went live. I saw a brief mention in another thread that the drop rates have been fixed. Could someone please point me to a thread detailing this fix? Thanks much in advance.
-
I too feel that drop rates are off. So much so, in fact, it has sucked most of the remaining fun out of the game for me. After five years, I was really looking forward to being able to run huge spawns solo and finish off more than the 2 or 3 I've finished from my stable of 70 or more chars.
I played for two days after I16 went live, and haven't logged on since. I sure hope they find out that it is broken and fix it, cause I can't see myself continuing to play this much longer otherwise. -
One mission I never see mentioned in these lists is the one I use the most. It is given by Dark Watcher in RWZ, and it takes place in the shadow shard. The mission title is just "Investigate Rikti Base", and is the third mission in the Dark Watcher arc.
In the mission, there is an outside area that leads to a cave area. I've never gone in that cave. In the outside area, about the middle, there is a large platform that has 4 large (about 20) mobs packed in a tight formation.
When farming it, I do one group (rest/heal if necessary), then do the next group.
On the top part of the platform is a group with a Fake Nem, and slightly off to one side is an Elite Boss which is needed for the quest (that I've intentionally never completed). He will not agro unless you attack him or one of the few mobs linked to him. For farming purposes, you do not need to take him down, although I do sometimes.
The short version is that in about 4 fights, you take out roughly 80 mobs, will get around 50k in inf/inf, and I usually get 1-3 recipes, and about 8-10 pieces of salvage. Takes about 10 minutes. -
Yes, base building is a big part of the game for some.
I believe you can get your own SG (which you have to do first) at level 10. See the main room in CIty Hall. -
One little suggestion: change lazy-casual to laid-back-casual. It's less derogatory and I think more accurate.
-
Thank you all for the help. I was missing the Ace badge, which, for some reason, is not lumped with the other badges in the list on badge-hunter (all the RWZ exploration are together except that one, which is much further down the list).
Anyway, I got it and received my portal token, so that's again to all. -
Here's my situation. I went and got all the exploration badges for various zones, including the RWZ. I have double-checked badge-hunter and have all the badges for that zone (11? IIRC), including the one from the ship.
However, unlike when I did this with other zones, I can't create the teleporter for RWZ. So, my only guess is that I must've gotten one of these badges when not in SG mode. Is there any way to tell what badges I am missing in that mode? Or is there any other possible cause at work here? -

I'm not referring to PvP here.
What I'm talking about is that I "grew up" blueside, since that's all there was at launch. I know blueside much better than red, but I have several villains.
To me, none of them seem as comparatively tough as my heroes. I'm not sure why, but I have a few possibilities in mind. Please let me know if you feel which are correct/incorrect.
1. The mobs that villains fight are tougher than the mobs that heroes do.
2. Heroes get access to EPPs.
3. I'm just not playing villains right. (This must be a valid suggestion, cause I've seen uber villains).
4. Heroes actually are more powerful cause they are less rounded/more specialized.
5. Tanks > Brutes.
I really want an uber villain. I have several high level ones and I'd like to get at least one to uber status. -
Quote:This.I predict less disruption than a new issue release here. Personally, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. The Smiling Jack effect and the whole concept of engineered for console play are both big turnoffs. I do not and will not own a console system. Not to mention that Jack's name on the cover leaves me cold.
Regardless of what happens, those that remain will find a way to adapt and prosper under any market changes, just like we always do.
Personally, I wouldn't try the game even if they came over to my house and installed it free for me. Everything I've read about it so far convinces me I've made the right decision. -
Clarification: this post is not in any way a complaint about current prices, the market, ebil flippers, waa-waa I'm poor, etc. I think everything is just fine the way it is.
I'm simply looking for opinions. With the steadily increasing prices I see on the market, how much do you have to have to be considered rich? Let's face it, 10 million won't buy you what it used to.
My opinion: if you're at the point where you ready to start tuning up your toon, showing off some bling, or you just like a big fat (wallet) bulge in your spandex, you need to be approaching 10 figures.
Again, I don't feel that's good or bad, just where things are about now. -
I have been playing for five years. In all that time, I have rolled hundreds of times on recipes and never once have I received a LOTG 7.5, Miracles or Numina's unique.
I got my wife into the game less than a year ago. In that time, in less than 20 rolls, she's gotten 2 numina's and 4 LOTGs! And then, just tonight, doing the ITF, a boss drops another LOTG for her.
How? I am almost at a loss for words. About the only thing I can say here is to quote Yosemite Sam: "Rassinfrassin....." grumble grumble -
There was a post a little while back by a red name stating that some pet buffs do not work or at least do not get checked for during combat.
I'm curious as to the current state of pet buffs. Which ones actually affect your pets? What about the bonuses in the slotted pet power? Does anyone have the definitive answers to this?
I have 2 MMs and a few controllers with several leadership powers, which I took mainly to buff my pets. If they're having no effect I might as well respec out of them. -
Thank you for all the replies.
However, I must be a little slow, because while I can find it on the map, I can't get to it. I have the fly power but when I try to fly to it from the base, I hit an invisible wall. When I click on the zone icon, my nav bar leads me to the exit of FBZ? What the hey? I'm confused.
I officially hate this zone.
Edit: OK, I think I've figured it out. There's a portal that ports you only a very short distance, but seems to be outside the invisible wall. So, now I can fly there. Call me bitter, but I despise the setup (not the look) of this zone.
