Quote:Well said. I think if they take Tyrant down just a bit then we'll get more people into doing the entire thing.Honestly.. they should have seen this coming. This is what happens when you shoehorn a path to a new shiny into one Not-so-easy path.
On Beta the Magi was originally a cakewalk at the end.. so they tweaked his regen higher. I feel they pushed it a bit TOO high- just a bit. I have been on over 20 Magis so far, and over a dozen have failed because we get Tyrant down to 30-40% health and then stall- between scattering for lighting strikes every 20 seconds and killing wells every 30-45 seconds we don't have the DPS to get him past the 30-40 mark.
That's not to say it can't be done, I've done it several times... but it takes more coordination than most PUG Leagues can handle.
Add that to this being the ONLY way to get Hybrid, even then you still need 5-6 runs, and yeah, people will take the easy route just to unlock the powers- it's common sense. A Common Sense that the Devs STILL seem to lack when it comes to Trials. IF they had added Advanced IXP to say the UGT or MoM/TPN, or added it to DA even at a reduced rate it would have cut down on the farming, but they NEVER learn it seems... I'm afraid if you're looking to finish it, you may need to wait a while. -
Well, this too. I have found the recent issues have really been very weak. It might be a bit more interesting if they change the theme from issue to issue like often done in comics. We've been flooded with the same Praetorian rubbish for 2 years.

Quote:Those were the rocks laying around the Well of the Furries. They are Incarnate rocks. They should have been left as isI suppose I am disappointed with the loss of Statesman and Sister Psyche too. I felt their deaths in the SSAs were good but to remove them from later arcs as if they never got to experience them felt a little TOO much I thought. I agree that SSA should have been assumed to be set after the events of the L45-50 arcs and just assume in newer arcs that they're dead fo reeels!
I do enjoy the rest of the patch notes though, especially the TPN rocks! -
I have no problem with difficult content as long as it is fun. The new trial is ok. It is better than the DD and the Keyes (two really lames ones). The devs have to realize the trials will be repetitive and need more and better diversity. Anyway, a pretty anti-climactic ending to the Goatee non-sense.
-
Interesting release date but it's cool. I like the QoL adds but there isn't much else there. Seems like a pretty meh issue. I was at least hoping for some fun with the new costume set but the knight armor stuff seems really lacking; a lot of the actual armour over the chain isn't there
Honestly, this might be the first time where I am indifferent about an issue launch.

Quote:Hmmmmmmmmmm what an interesting little example you came up with. It seems to suit your purpose to a T and shows your obvious bias. The OP is in the position of someone pulled over for speeding, who's berating the officer writing him a ticket and DEMANDING to know why they didn't pull over any of the other people who are clearly going MUCH faster than he was.
There is no way that this can lead to a satisfactory result, unless the OP's only intent is to vent, complain, and/or whine.
Anyway, I was hoping to have a discussion here. Lots of interesting theories but no official word etc. Unless an NC Soft rep actually chimes in, we cannot say for certain what is happening with policy.
I will admit I am disappointed with NC but it is only a game. My sub ends soon and I don't think I will be staying VIP. This naming non-sense along with tier 9 VIP rewards and the blah issues (they seem very uninteresting lately) have me debating the move. -
Quote:Actually, you can PuG in Croatoa and Striga because people can enter that zone and work with the contacts there (heroes and vig.). The 1-20 Praetoria experience is an epic failure and those zones are a ghost town. The rikti invasion was a point of several arcs from the start of the game untill issue 10. lets be fair about things here. furthermore, mot is a singular entity with limited influence, not an entire other dimension. Some people liked praetoria and some dont and little rational discussion is going to change minds because its a question of preferences, but i have to strongly disagree with you that the build up for praetoria was an error. its not for everyone and nothing will be, but it was a workable vehicle to get a lot of mechanics into the game and worked well for what it was, and it sure as heck was better than the old praetoria stuff which was basically got to a bunch of context free recycled environments and fight one off mook squads.they are mid level zones, people tend to move on. you cant exactly call up a pug in coratoa or striga any time you want either. they served their purpose as well as any new zone does, if you have an event, you can often get people, I have been on a few seed hunts on liberty, far from the most populous server, and really if the communtiy finds things to do they stick around, if not, they go through, just like striga, just like nerva.
i23 is far from exciting. I thought we'd be getting full knight costume pieces as shown by the Knight NPC but we're only getting some of that? Again, we're deprived the coolest parts for some odd reasons...who knows why...
I guess the new chat for free players will better allow teaming as will the SG membership. Not much other excitement from the issue. Hopefully we don't get much more Praetoria. The devs would be best served if they took opinion polls more often than not. Might get better issues that way. -
I've had a number of toon names genericed. The names included Sentinel, Wildcat, Apocalypse and a number of others. I was told it was NC Soft policy this would happen. Then I just learn a guy has been running around with a 'copyrighted' name and it was OK by the powers that be? How does this make sense?!?! I am really wondering why there's such a double standard going on here. Can anyone help me out? I sent in a ticket about this and was told they cannot reveal such info.
The name the guy was allowed to retain is that of a well known Greek God. -
I came to the thread hoping to see some cool ideas, ATs and builds that might be interesting to look at. A very neat idea. Unfortunately, I've stumbled upon a whine-fest. I don't really know who the OP is but a good idea; sadly, your juvenile follow-up posts only fueled the fires here.
-
Interesting how so many people suggest taking a break from the game. I think that may help the OP but I also can't tell for sure since I can't read his/her mind.
I think the ideas he put forth are decent. I must emphasize I really would hope the devs would make small/low work changes to increase interest in the game. Easy things like new and original enemies - not re-working old ones into goatee versions etc. It isn't that fresh. Make it visually exciting. It seems the devs are most guilty of not using the costume creator to its max
Paragon needs to start thinking ahead of the curve. Start making adds/changes before players start leaving due to boredom etc. -
I like this idea! Hopefully they don't make it a tier 9 set! hahaha

Quote:Yeah that's nice. We'll just agree to disagree hereutter nonsense, quit trying to hold back my game with your narrow definition of comic books. seriously, the same bunch of narrow minded people come in and spout this thread after thread, and its just plain wrong, coh embraces the broad variety of heroic comic options, it is not, nor should it ever be relegated to an outdated and anachronistic interpretation of superheroic fiction. there already is a superhero mmo out there with a bunch of spandex crap, and its garbage, lets keep coh free form for the modern times.
Anyway, I have no problems with the content we have in game. We have various types of origins, backgrounds and so on. Fantasy, sci-fi, tech etc. I would like to see better looking NPCs and a shift back to supers (examples in earlier post).
I notice the listed NPCs are the ones I was thinking. For the most part, they're versions of existing factions. They also tend to be visually... not too interested. We have very similar looking groups. This is a video game. Make some cool looking stuff.
The Praetorian versions of some characters are very cool and well done. We have some interesting looking characters. The new Clocks, Nightstar, Siege, Noble Savage...some cool looks there. We need to see that a lot more. Enough of the slightly altered versions of existing groups and all that...too much of that. -
A lot of the stuff here isn't superhero. I don't mind some variety but, yeah, let's get back to some stuff that resembles the comics, supers, etc.

Quote:Some great points. I think the main reason Praetoria has become a ghost town is because they, yet again, divided the players. You can only go through the arcs so many times before you get really bored. You also have to deal with dull new mission maps and the same old, ridiculously laid out office maps and that adds to the burnout.I think GR introduced some of the best story material this game has ever seen. I also think GR was a monumental failure. Which makes me sad.
It is my pet theory that Praetoria was designed to be the way to bring 'heroic' archetypes to red-side, and vice-versa (beyond late-game side-switching, of course). As such, Praetoria would be a new hub for everyone, uniting red- and blue-side players from 1-20, rather than a third way to split the playerbase any further.
Of course, that's not how it turned out, and I think the launch of Freedom, and the free AT-pick that game with it, was directly related to the fact that Praetoria was lying largely unused.
Why did it fail? I'm sure there's been a lot of analysis about this, but I think that ultimately Praetoria failed for the same reason that red-side is inherently less populous than blue-side: The majority of players are not fond of moral ambiguity. And those that are, are probably perfectly happy starting in Mercy. There's also the perceived difficulty of the enemy groups in Praetoria, though I don't think that was a significant factor (though the 'issue' was probably magnified by the need to solo everything with fewer and fewer people starting in Praetoria).
The storytelling in Praetoria is really fantastic, though, so I was sad that GR didn't do better. Still am!
I think the devs should have added these story lines to Atlas Park, Kings Row, Steel/Mercy and Port Oakes and Cap. Enhance the zones we have. Then when these angles get played out, you still have all that other content. That and revamp some of the early zones.
Personally, I thought adding an isolated new starting area was an epic failure. I am really surprised the devs couldn't see this happening. I really am surprised and it is an indictment on the devs. It raises concern for the future of the game when you see things flopping like the Praetorian zones did.
I think GR would have been much better if they didn't do the the new zones and revamped the beginner experience we already had with these arcs and mechanics. Instead of the new zones it might've been cooler to add 10 new TFs/SFs in the calibre of the ITF if not better; unique maps, enemies etc - maybe tell the story of Praetoria using these as well. I liked the alignment changing etc and the rest of the expansion just fine. -
Quote:Could you mention the new enemy groups? While the paper/radio missions i do agree we could use more of, we actually get repeatable mission upgrades on a regular basis [RWZ/Cimerora/DA etc].
Also we are getting a HUGE influx of new enemy groups to fight lately and also some old unused ones getting some screentime. Even in i23 we're getting a few new enemy groups, so i dont agree with you saying theres a lack of new enemy groups.
Though i do agree with everybody that you need a small break due to burnout to refresh your love for the game
To be more specific, I was suggesting adding more supers type foes. A group of costumed supers. Not something I see D&D or whatever. Something that makes me think comics...like the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Justice League, Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Galactus etc. We have some of that and need more. Video games have a lot to do with looks. Give us some cool looking NPCs. Many current groups in-game are pretty 'meh' looking; some are also kinda dull and generic feeling (various militia etc). -
Quote:I am becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the game overall.
As a long time subscriber I am hoping for some player feedback
about the overall quality of the game now and the value
of the Paragon Market to you.
The game overall seems to be getting stale to me,
I guess that is too be expected after 7 years.
My feeling is that it is due to a couple of factors.
1) My lack of time to invest in Super Group stuff, TF or Incarnate Arcs.
2) Lack of mission teams to join. Trials have destroyed teaming in Paragon.
Solitary nature of trial interaction reminds me of PI powerleveling run.
Empty zones with almost no one to team with during daytime.
3) Lack of new enemies, staleness of same old foes year after year.
Lack of new contact, paper, radio missions for mission teams.
4) Lack of Desire to create new Hero/Heroine
The same old powersets nothing new or interesting for free.
The new powersets that I have bought have dissapointed me.
Same old costumes unless you pay for new options.
6) Lack of Desire to level or roleplay my older Heroes.
Do to apathy or boredom with my progress or the game itself.
As far as the Paragon Market is concerned, I feel it is a necessary evil.
I do like the fact that it has enhancements since some are scarce in WW and BM.
I feel it does serve a purpose to F2P and Premium Members.
But, for me as a VIP it only serves annoy me since now powersets and costumes
are not QL improvements as they have been in the past.
The Paragon Market has reduced my choices instead of increasing them.
It is too bad new free stuff might have rekindled some interest in the game.
Frankly, I have been disappointed with the powersets I have purchased.
Now I resist the temptation to buy new powersets due to my boredom with the
sets included with my subscription.
Overall, I guess you could call me dissapointed in the direction of the game.
I really agree with 3 and 4. It would be so easy to introduce more unique and exciting content but the devs really don't. I like the market etc and getting new powers is super cool. However, once you get this stuff you're doing the same content.
The mission maps and environments have been very similar for years. They haven't gone off on too many tangents. The ITF is great and some of the reasons are the unique enemies and mission maps (not all maps but some). You also don't deal with a lot of these villains in other areas.
It'd be neat to see a new supergroup (not faction or army) introduced on a more frequent level. 5 or 6 or whatever superpowered beings. Add them in and make an arc or tf or trial where you see something fresh, new and exciting.
I think the OP is also trying to say the game would be so much better if there was more variety even in the simplest ways. It isn't tough to add a brand new bunch of supers into an arc. Instead we often see the same old enemies we've seen for years. After 8 years you'd think there would be a lot more diversity.
Let me go one up. How about the devs wrap up the current storylines and not be allowed to use any existing factions/groups/enemies. No more adding missions, TFs, SFs, Trials using what we have - no CoT, Praetorians, Nemesis etc. Only new groups/enemies and ideas.
Also, maybe try and wrap up storylines quicker. The Coming Storm has become a joke in-game more than some epic event on the horizon. Also, should there maybe be more epic stories on top of the Storm?
I do feel the OP's frustrations with the game. It is more stale than it needs to be. For this reason and the tier 9 rewards/mech/celestial pack rubbish, I will be likely ending my sub.
A bit too much of the same old, same old in CoH. Really cuts down the longevity of the game. -
Quote:Why don't the devs put something like the retro sci-fi pack as a reward over the mech or celestial. We have had many iffy costume packs released over the years (Carnival and it's few pieces; the mutant pack was meh; the pocket D pack was ok - IMO). Why have, IMO, the best costume packs (mech and celestial) at tier 9. Perhaps they could make one of the rewards something like shield wall or glad armor procs (or some other rare IO).The problem is that with Freedom, the reward tree was restructured to cap the height of the tree, which providing desirable repeatable rewards at the top.
Continually adding new sets and leaving them all available breaks that design, and goes right back to the old problem of a tree becoming so large that new players feel the higher levels are completely out of their reach. Stopping at a fixed number of sets means there's nothing special at the top of the tree for long-term VIPs.
Any solution is going to have to address the issue of providing T9 VIP rewards without building an infinitely expanding reward tree. -
Quote:Account has never lapsed. Could care less what else you think...if that is what you do. Just wanted to set the record straight.Door. Kick You. Way Out.
Registered in 2007, quite possibly playing before then.
Lasped account due to X reason, quite possibly to play 'the next big MMO'.
Not seeing why I should feel sorry for your disloyalty? -
I can understand leaving something for T9 VIPS. I get it. What I don't like is making the rewards some of the best stuff in the game. To us costume types, it is awful. Many have wanted the mech and celestial-type stuff for years. Well, we get it and it gets stuck behind the T9 VIP wall. Paragon will not extort me into climbing up the Token ladder and drop a ton of cash. Not happening. This was the final screw over. I sub ends in a while and I will not be renewing - this was the final straw. If anyone else feels as strongly as I do then join me in this protest and make sure you note why you quit in the exit survey.
In solidarity,
JM -
I really hope Paragon surveys the players more often. Perhaps a pop-up in-game would be helpful as well so people know this survey is out. We all know a small amount of players visit the forums.
-
Quote:Yeah, could anyone tell me why the costume packs (CoT, Carny etc) get released and don't have some key pieces. I thought for sure the CoT pack would contain that cool back detail. I jumped on that pack just because I ASSUMED it would be included. That was a royal screw jobFor things I want to see in the market, I voted for the Black Knight Armour, the missing Circle of Thorns pieces and a male Kheldian Sash.
What gives? Seriously.
-
I wouldn't mind seeing a tree of ninja type warriors or samurai warrior tree. It'd be nice to see a more generic set of pets in the Lore slot. I really think CoH canon is a bit 'meh' more often than not and don't want my toons using that stuff.
-
Quote:Yeah, that is what I was getting at:
How many master accounts buying how many Super Packs broken into Paragon Points vs Paragon Rewards would paint a true picture of the Super Packs health. By saying 3,000,000 cards (not packs, but cards) they are going out of their way to portray the packs in the best possible light. What, exactly are they trying to hide? That only a subset of players/accounts are bothering with these?
They already said on Wednesday's Ustream that they wouldn't be releasing those details. I know, I specifically asked Zwillinger that and that was his reply.
I don't think anyone could do that.
Hey thanks for the info. I guess he didn't provide any sort of timetable.
I am all for tier 9 rewards etc but when it's some of the best stuff they've made then it really is a piss off. I'll likely never get there and I am a subscriber/VIP. So odd. I think these packs would make a killing at the store. Also, tier 9s shouldn't be too annoyed at having these costumes in the store since they're getting them for FREE and before the rest of us (non-tier 9s)! -
Quote:How about you take a long walk off a short pier instead...I really love /ah and wouldn't trade it for anything.
But I miss being able to pop in to Wentworths and find a bunch of folk hanging out doing their thing. IMHO the game needs *more* public gathering places where your character can feel like part of an actual CITY of Heroes.
So, how to incentivize players actually using the actual market locations?
Well, I'm glad you asked...
A convenience fee on remote transactions!
In a world were banks happily charge you $2 to pull $20 out of their ATM, surely the Market deserves to gouge for the unparalleled utility of the remote AH screen!
A small, flat fee would make the physical market more attractive without putting a serious dent in the utility of /ah. Also, INF SINK!
Say, 5 or 10 inf per transaction?
