Since it isn't in the build on Test or Beta, from what I've been able to find, I think it was simply a testing method added by the devs to test the Long Range Teleport easily that they forgot to remove from the build before it went Live.
In other words, enjoy it while it's there. -
Understood. I assumed it might be a way of venting, but wanted to put the advice there for you and others that might be in a similar situation.
I've worked with some people in the past that skimmed problem tickets and answered with canned replies that didn't address the issue at all.
I've dealt with support at other companies that did the same and it was only after repeatedly putting in the same information, along with the statement that they weren't reading what was in the original information and were giving answers that had nothing to do with the problem that I finally got a resolution.
I've been lucky in the 7+ years I've been playing CoH to have only gotten one canned reply that made it quite evident that the person simply skimmed the report and replied with a cut/paste response that in no way dealt with the problems I was having. That one quickly got resolved when responded to it asking them to read the entire post and not just skim a few words. Surprisingly, it also got me an apology from the GM that responded after my reply (not the original GM).
Now, I have had some back and forth conversations with them about some things, but it wasn't due entirely to them misreading the problem. -

I'm still trying to figure out a way to purchase some of the steaks and ship them to myself economically. I guess I need to locate a FedEx and someplace to purchase dry ice to ship with it.
In the meantime, the Fred's Steak sandwich from their Deli counter will suffice. -
Reopen the ticket if it was closed, otherwise just update the ticket with the following information:
Politely tell them that you ARE a VIP and that the SG base permissions are set so that members of any rank are allowed to pay rent, not just the Leader. Let them know that as a VIP player with priveleges to pay base rent, the fact that the registrar won't allow you to pay rent and says that the rent is paid is not working as designed.
Be firm, be polite, and if necessary ask them to escalate it to a senior GM if they still aren't understanding the problems. Most of all, be polite. If you stay polite throughout the process they are less likely to be dismissive of the problems. Having done technical support myself via email, phone and web forms, I've seen both sides of that situation. -

Arrive at SJC 7:40 PM Friday the 18th.
Checking in at Dinah's Garden Hotel, most likely heading to bed soon after.
All day event on Saturday.
Leave for BWI Sunday the 20th at 1:20 PM.

Last edited by Fasttrack; Today at 11:04 AM. Reason: Deleted a question on a possibility of a tour of Paragon Studios as I realize getting in late on Friday would nix this and they're definitely not going to be available Sat/Sun. Dumb question.
Fasttrack, in regards to your edit I'll just post what happened last year, and what I'm told is standard practice there.
A player arrived mid-morning on Friday. This was the weekend of the Bay Area Meet & Greet. He had asked one or two Devs via Twitter Thursday night if he'd be able to get a tour of the studio if he showed up, but got no response. Both said on Friday and Saturday that they hadn't received the tweets or they'd have let him know that it wasn't going to be possible.
The player was greeted in the lobby and not allowed past it. He sat on the couch under the sign next to the Justice conference room (the conferencer rooms are named for the servers apparently) but forgot to get someone to take a picture of him sitting there. It was the appropriate sign for him to be sitting under since he plays on Justice.
A few of the OCR team visited with him in the lobby for a bit, as did a couple of the Devs very briefly before they headed to a meeting. However, they said it was standard practice not to allow tours. He was told that much of the time there is quite a bit of information that is work in progress for future content ideas pasted all over the place.
Understandable, but still disappointing.
Luckily, after leaving the office and going to Best Buy he got a phone call from another player inviting him to lunch. The tasty goodness of a Fred's Steak sandwich helped make up for the disappointment of not being able to tour the Paragon Studios offices.
I don't arrive as early this year so I don't need to make that stop on my way to lunch. Although it would be nice to get my picture taken under the sign for the Justice conference room since I forgot to do that last year. -
In other news, Common Sense has been nerfed in posts on the internet.
It must be true, I read it online. -
Damn, Skippy.
Ah well, Alpha Wolf. You are still in second place in your division. You still have the possibility to repeat. -
Quote:I use this regularly at work. Our filter has a "drop silently" mode and a "throttle to nothing" mode that we use on various sites rather than actually blocking them. The "throttle to nothing" sites are usually bandwidth intensive sites that are throttled during school hours and then unthrottled after hours. Here's a nifty little website that I was just alerted to, perfect for times like this.
Down for everyone or just me
When someone complains about a site not loading, if I can't reach it I use this site to check if it's something in our network filters or if it's really down. Only twice has it been a filter issue. And both times it took several days for them to find out what was causing it to be filtered. -
The problem is most likely in the video card drivers. I don't find any drivers on the Dell site for Windows 7 for that computer. Looking at the Intel site, the most current drivers are from October 2009.
Those drivers likely won't support the graphics upgrades that happened with Issue 17 in early 2010. It's hard to tell the date on the drivers that are installed since it's configured to use a different date format or localization setting than what CoH Helper looks at.
You could try having them log in using the game's Safe Mode settings (not Windows Safe Mode). If they can get logged in, they should then be able to set the game to the lowest settings and then log in in normally.
To start the game in Safe Mode, have them open the NCLauncher but don't launch the game yet. Right-click the entry for the game and select Properties. At the bottom of the screen, put a check mark in "Launch in safe mode" and click OK. Then launch the game. This sets it at the lowest graphics settings and should allow them to get in and set the graphics then exit the game, remove the "Launch in Safe Mode" check mark and launch the game normally.
If they can't log in using Safe Mode we'll definitely need to see the HiJackThis logs as well since there could be a program interfering with the game loading.
The game isn't going to look all that good with that graphics chipset as it is rather old, the drivers are old, and it isn't a graphic chipset designed for gaming. -
Freitag updated the post he made yesterday about the publish with the following information:

Update @ 09:09am PDT : Due to some technical difficulties, the Live Server Publish is taking longer than anticipated. We are working to bring up the servers as quickly as possible, and will keep you apprised of the situation. Thank you for your patience.

Turgenev, glad to see you are going to be joining us.
I haven't seen any threads for co-ordinating room sharing or shuttle rides. A few people have commented in this thread.
I know that TonyV was looking for a roomie as of his last posting, but I don't know if he's finalized anything. You might want to shoot him a PM asking about it.
As for shuttle rides, your times don't mesh well with mine or I'd be more than happy to give you a ride. I'll likely still be at lunch when your plane arrives in San Jose but I might be able to talk those riding with me into making a pass back to the airport to pick you up if you can hold out until around 1:30 or so.
I see that crayhal also is taking Friday off and is offering to play host/bus driver so you may want to PM them as well.
If nothing else, you may want to use the public transportation system there. I know it will likely take longer than a cab, but it's much less expensive. It may involve a bit of walking between stops or at the end, but it may also give some sightseeing opportunities as well. Since you have the time between arriving at the airport and the check in time at the hotel, this may be a decent alternative. -
Please post the entire CoH Helper output instead of just the last part of it. The information at the beginning of the output is as important as the latter part and is sometimes more important.
Also, please post the HiJackThis logs as well.
If you need instructions on how to run them correctly and post the output to the forums, please read Hyperstrike's [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums thread that is stickied in this forum section. -
Quote:They are trying a few things with the forums to try to allow limited posting access for Non-VIP account. VIP's complaining the non-VIP's wouldn't be able to get help is one reason. This is one section that they've enabled posting by non-VIP players. Zwabblingbrook has commented on it in a couple of threads.
How are you posting on these forums? I ask because only VIP subscribers can write posts. Free players, or in your case, premium players can only read the forums.
So far, I haven't found any other sections that will allow non-VIP posts, but I haven't tested every section. Frankly, I have better things to do with my time than continually test if my Free account can post in various places. There are a few sections I refuse to post in or even look at.
They haven't announced what their final plans on this will be since they aren't final yet. Once they've got it all planned out, we've been told those plans will be announced.
Quote:
PS: This isn't really the appropriate section for this post. This is more of a CoH discussion thread since most (if not all) of your issues aren't bugs. Or other technical issues.
Postings in a forum section that isn't appropriate to the content of the post is going to be problematic from a moderation standpoint. Since this is likely the only place the non-VIP's can post, it will become the catch-all forum section for their posts. This makes it harder to find posts from people actually needing help, which is likely to make them re-think their decisions on allowing non-VIP's to post.
EDIT: Currently, if I see a post that I think is in the wrong forum section, I check to see if I have an option to send a PM to a poster. If not, I know they aren't VIP. -
In addition to what Morgan asked.
Is he leaving the launcher running in the background?
Does he have Ambient Occlusion turned on or Advanced Occlusion set to Enabled?
Why not have your friend run CoH Helper and HiJackThis and post the logs here? We might be able to spot some settings or software that is contributing to the problems and offer possible solutions without having to guess or play 20 questions. -
You could always go through those posts and create a listing on ParagonWiki or Google Docs to get things started. Of course, to keep it current, you or someone else would need to update it each time new information comes out.

The Snipping Tool found in Vista and 7 works very well for doing screenshots in game as well.
I haven't seen the cached image using the Print Screen key in XP, but have in Vista and 7. I seldom do screenshots using the /screenshot command, so that may not get the same result. I'm in the process of working on a computer that doesn't have CoH installed (and I'm not installing it on someone else's computer without permission) so I can't test this right now. Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to test it.
Of course, the Vista and 7 computers had beefier video cards with more graphics memory as well. It could be an issue with video cards with larger memory capabilities rather than an OS specific issue. Since I don't have a beefier video card to put in an XP machine to test with or a wimpy card to put in the Vista or 7 machines, I can't tell if this is where the problem is or not. -
Quote:Since one of the possibilities I listed was that Adeon was basing their statement off of officially posted (and still currently posted) information and he didn't claim anyone's statement was "Not True" I didn't hold them to that standard. Adeon has posted that this was the information they were using, so yes, given that they were basing it on officially posted information I'll give it a pass. Since it's only been in a handful of posts that Zwaffendorger has said he's working on trying some things on the forums and the plans aren't finalized, I don't expect everyone to have seen those posts even though I do encourage people to regularly check the Dev Digest and Community Digest. He said there would be an official announcement once the plans are finalized. It would be reasonable to accept information in official announcements and on the website as accurate until an official announcement is made.So let's break this down.
Let us assume that is true.
So you are just giving Adeon Hawkwood a free pass, and assuming they actually tested their statement before posting. And for clarity:
That assumption is clearly false.
Of course, had you verified (in other words tested) it before posting, you would have known that.
So:
- You do not hold Adeon Hawkwood to that standard.
- You do not hold yourself to that standard.
- The only person you are holding to that standard is... Me.
That paints a pretty clear picture of a personal vendetta. Possibly bordering on harassment.
Of course, let me guess: "I'm just reading things into your posts that don't actually exist" (Again.)
The fact that someone else saw something of it (and their post was deleted, for those curious), might be relevant.
Of course, if I just have a bad habit of reading to much into your posts... You would think you would simply avoid interacting with me. I mean, if you had the goal of these forums looking friendly.
Maybe you should meditate on all of that.
I actually did hold myself to that standard as proven by me testing again before making my posts (with screenshots for those that need visual proof, that whole "Pics or it didn't happen" crowd). This also isn't the first time I've tested this. I test it anytime the subject comes up just in case Z has made another change in his tinkering. Anytime I've not been able to test something at the time, ingame or on the forums, I base my information on the information I have available with the qualifying statement that I can't test it currently, then outlining the steps I'd use so that those that can test it have a plan to follow.
I held you to that standard for calling other posters comments "Not True" without actually testing to see if they were "Not True". I even quoted where you said "I think" and "should be" as to whether or not this forum section was included. If you had based that on official announcements or postings on the main website instead of comments of something they are trying to accomplish but hasn't been finalized, I'd have not commented on that part. I merely said that your not testing it yourself didn't help your point, and I stand by that statement.
If you feel that this is a personal vendetta or borderline harassment, click the Report Post icon on the post you thing violates the forum rules against those particular behaviors. If the Moderator's agree that it is a violation, they'll take action either by modifying or deleting the post, by sending me a warning in a PM, or both. If they feel it is an extreme enough violation or a continued repeated violation, I'll get either a temporary ban or a permanent ban from the forums.
Do I think you are reading things into my posts that aren't there? In this instance I definitely do think that way. Which is one of the reasons I'm replying to your post.
The other reason I reply to your posts, or any other post I find has incorrect information, is that I don't like to let incorrect information stand unchallenged and uncorrected, no matter who made the post. But I don't make posts claiming other peoples statements are "Not True" if I don't test it first or have an official statement/website posting or Dev or Community post to reference. That's as bad as posting misinformation in the first place. True, some of the Dev posts have gotten lost in forum purges over the years, but I've got other sources to back me up in those cases and I'll state that the comment is one that I can't find through that Dev's post history.
If people post incorrect information and people don't correct them, people reading that information then believe it to be correct. We've had enough of that over the years with people claiming things like "The Devs said we'd never get power customization" when that wasn't what was said at all. That's just one example of incorrect information.
When people question my motives for some of my posts, as you have, I'll reply to make my motive for those posts clear. Some people would classify those types of posts as attacks on their character. I merely consider them to be someone deriving an incorrect conclusion, and I'll respond to try to clear up their misconceptions. Some people refuse to change their incorrect conclusions no matter what evidence is presented, but I'll always respond rather than let that stand unchallenged. Just like other incorrect information I see posted, as stated above, if it's left unchallenged then people reading it will assume it's correct.
EDIT: When people correct me when I post incorrect information, I simply admit I was working off of old information and thank them for correcting me. I don't make posts calling their motives into question or denigrating them in any way. I simply admit that I was wrong.
With all of the recent changes in the game and on the forums I'm making it a habit to test things each time I run across a post about the forum posting rules, in case Zweebleswobblebuttheydontfalldown has made changes since my previous test. I've been trying to do that with testing things in the game itself to keep from basing my remarks on outdated information as well. -
Quote:It's possible that you got the Vanguard Pack as part of the Seven Years of Super Rewards loyalty program they ran earlier this year.I'm trying to purchase the Vanguard Shield for my characters (80 points) and I'm getting the "quantity requested exceeds" message, but I don't already have it.
I have unlocked *some* of the Vanguard pieces on my level 50, but I don't have the Vanguard Shield on any of my characters.
Is there any way I can buy it?
Thanks!

Quote:Cryptic can't answer those questions. They've not had anything to do with the game since early November of 2007.I notice that today too. And yes, I too block google-analytics.
I noticed earlier already that the NCsoft Launcher, too, tries to connect to google-analytics.
Which leaves me with three questions to Cryptic, since I don't like passing data around like that, especially when my name and credit card data are involved:
1. Why?
2. What of my data is transferred to google?
3. Can you please stop that?
Thank you. -
You missed the point I made at the beginning of my post. The attachment interface doesn't differentiate between what type of attachment it is. Influence is handled separately.
It doesn't matter what the attachment is, it's all handled by the same code. They'd have had to write separate attachment interfaces, slots and code for using global email in order to allow some things to allow more than one item and others to not allow more than one item. They made the decision to just have one attachment slot to handle all of the attachments and place a single item limit on it.
Be glad we are able to use global mail to send items and inf at all. That was one of the best QoL additions to the game, and a long standing request.
EDIT: And what does the placing an enhancement in the auction house have to do with global mail? -
It's one attachment of any kind whether it's an enhancement, an inspiration or whatever. Influence is separate.
Email yourself 5 large Purples in one email. Email yourself 5 Large Greens in another email. Email yourself 5 large Blues in another email. Do this for each type of Inspiration. Repeat to the limit of the 20 emails in Inbox at a time with the preferred types of Inspirations.
Go into mission, get to AV fight, use all Red, Yellow, Purple, Orange and Breakfree Inspirations as fight starts, start claiming inspirations all through fight and have a nearly unlimited amount of inspirations available throughout the fight.
That's a broken situation and they weren't going to allow that.
Use a similar situation going into a PVP zone. Your opponent didn't plan ahead as you did in filling his email with Inspirations to claim or didn't have the money to buy the needed large inspirations.
Very broken and they weren't going to allow it.
They didn't give us exact reasons, but a little bit of thinking will find several situations you can use global emails with attachments to exploit the system. -

If you use Yahoo mail, don't bother. Create a Gmail account instead. Their mail server doesn't like Yahoo mail for some reason.
EDIT: Bah. Looks like something in the filters at work was blocking the images in the post. I wasn't even seeing placeholders for the images. That may explain some other wonkiness I've been seeing at work. I'll have to check that at our Tech Dept meeting tomorrow. And technically, that's not shaving his head, it's just a really short haircut. Shaving it would mean no hair left or possibly some stubble that has grown in since last weekend. -
Silly Agge. They have no idea what normal work hours for people in the Pacific time zone might be.
