Let them see what it's like (just like when we had 10/14 day trials) and you may capture some people (more importantly, their money) you wouldn't have before.

More money = game sticks around longer. Not a bad thing to go after.
They are giving people a taste of what they are missing.

Used to be, if you stopped paying your subscription you stopped being able to play at all.

Used to be, if you were on a trial account you could get to level 14, now you can play all the way to 50. If that doesn't convince you that it's worth spending the money on a sub, not much will.

The problem with giving them a little taste is that people keep wanting a bigger taste.

If they keep increasing it, being VIP will mean nothing.
  2. What.

Oh wait. This isn't an "or what?" thread?

    dugfromthearth is slipping.

    It could be worse.

The original plan was for non-VIP's to have 0 posting privileges on the forums, something several of us complained about.

It got them to reconsider things and look for a workaround that started with them opening the Gameplay/Technical Issue & Bugs section and then expand to the current format of 4 forum sections that are ALL ACCESS.

    Careful there.

I hear that when you call me Tex it makes the real Tex tear up video cards.

Or at least, he pokes his head in the thread to see who is using his name in vain.

  6. You do realize you can delete your own posts, right?

For when you somehow make a double post.

Odd that the forum won't let me make a double post, but it does for other people.
  7. Only one person suggested you might be crazy. Several questioned the number.

My comment specifically said that when I got them using Reward Tokens that it was x5 and that I had seen them in the Paragon Market for a larger amount. I don't recall the amount I saw there, so I didn't list it.

I didn't look at the Super Packs from Paragon Rewards when they first hit Beta, but it was still early when I redeemed them using Reward Tokens.

I got x5 which matched what Z's post stated so I didn't question it.

I'll keep everyone updated as more decisions are made. Please be sure to check these out when they hit beta.

    Thanks!

  8. I haven't figured out what causes those errors with CoH Helper so I'm not sure what to suggest there. Unfortunately, that program gives the best output of game settings and necessary computer information for troubleshooting. I think it's related to the version of the .Net Framework that is installed (either a corrupt installation or not having the right version installed) but I don't have a clean XP system without .Net Framework on it so that I could test it.

I really don't like the format and unneeded information that DXDiag gives, but that will have to do for now I guess. Follow the steps below to run it.

Click Start. Click Run. Type dxdiag in the box and click OK. Click Yes if a dialog box comes up. Click Next until you get to the last page. Click Save all information. Save it to your Desktop and name it DxDiag.txt so that you can find it. Click Exit to close the DirectX diagnostics window.

Open the DXDiag.txt file you saved to your desktop, on the toolbar at the top of the page click Edit, click Select All. Click Edit again, click Copy. Open this thread and click New Reply then right-click in the text editing box and select Paste. Then click Submit Reply.

From some of the D-Link entries in your HJT log I'll guess that you are connecting wirelessly, is that correct?

I thought x25 for 1 token was fair and just. Considering it's a gamble when you get them, anyway. I know for a fact now, I will be unable to get the Elemental costume set properly.
Um. With Reward Tokens? I don't think so.

That is what I recall as well. As to the "crazy" comment, well ...

Now, I did see a bundle in the Paragon Market for a larger amount, but not in the Paragon Rewards window.

Yes, I "bought" some with Reward Tokens for testing, so I know it was only x5.

Beast Mastery, along with the Staff powerset, is within the Issue 22 "window" but not part of the initial release of Issue 22. Since it is coming before Issue 23, it's included in the trailer.

One of the "down sides", if there are any, to having new stuff released to the Paragon Market just about every week instead of having to wait for a whole new issue or booster for the release of something.
  11. No technical information provided.

    I don't play guessing games.

As for the last line, I never saw anything like this reported in Beta, either in the Beta forums or in any channels on the Beta server.

If it doesn't happen on Beta, or if no one reports it, how are they supposed to fix it?

Especially if there is no actual information that would assist in troubleshooting the problems.

You've been around long enough and have posted here often enough that you know what's asked for in order for people to help troubleshoot the problems.

The point is more that you're going to have three basic groups running the solo incarnate content.

    1) "Hardcore" runners, who will be running it as much as possible, even so much as going through only the easiest content that gives the best rewards/time.

    2) "Normal" players that don't have the time or inclination to do the trials, but will be running through all of the content, regardless of reward speed.

    3) "Casual" players who may occasionally go into Dark Astoria, but won't do it every day or even week.

Now, the "Normal" faction is a tough one to define, since you're going to have players that only play a few days a week, or also have people that play every day, but probably wouldn't be considered hardcore players. But that is the group that you should be looking to balance it around.

If that group is taking months to achieve what trial runners can do in a day, then the progress rate is too slow. If the hardcore farmers can do it in a week, then it's still slower than the trials, though.
    Something must be wrong here.

I don't think I've ever been in a group that is considered "Normal".
  13. Also, you may need to log out and then log back in to see the purchase. Sometimes purchases from the market don't show up until you have logged out and then logged back in.

I always exit to the desktop and restart the launcher and then the game just to be safe.

    Good to be back

Need to post the Awesomeface avatar before the sub lapses.

It "might" stick around if you drop back to Premium.
  15. Try turning off Ambient Occlusion completely. AO is a resource hog and framerate killer.

It's possible that the 8800 ignored that setting since it likely wasn't capable of using AO as it is implemented in CoH.

If the data is coming back as Unknown, it generally indicates that CoH Helper isn't able to read the registry entries for some reason. Often that is due to another program blocking access to the registry.

The link I gave in my post for the current version of CoH Helper works. I've gone to the site twice now since I read your first post, and downloaded the program to my desktop and then run it with no problems.

EDIT: The link is even in your own first post. It's the link for CoH Helper above the output right before the version number.

  17. Sometimes the game can't communicate properly with the Paragon Market to verify what you've purchased.

Some have had luck just backing out to the Server Select screen, some to the Login Screen and some have just closed the game and relaunched it to get it to synchronize with the store correctly.
  18. Is the shortcut you are using to launch the game set to launch CoH after checking for updates or are you running just the launcher and then launching the game once it is open?

If it is the former, see if it does the same when you launch it using the latter method. You can get the NCLauncher alone by going through the All Programs menu or typing NCSoft Launcher in the Search box when you click the Windows 7 Start button.

If you launch it with the NCSoft launcher and then double-clicking the CoH entry or clicking the entry then clicking Play Now, does it do the same thing?
  19. Even our Special Snowflakes like to get up close and personal with Mother.
  20. First of all, please run the most current version of CoH Helper, not a version that was made before Ultra Mode. The output you listed shows none of the Ultra Mode settings, so we can't tell if that is causing a performance problem. The old non-UM compatible versions of CoH Helper are of limited use.

Second, Windows XP 64-bit has never been a supported OS for the game. I know some have run CoH on XP64, but it still isn't supported and, due to the smaller installation base, not all of the performance issues with that OS may be known to the general public. Someone that has run it on XP64 may be able to chime in with other information specific to that OS version.

Third, the following line from the CoH Helper report could be a contributing factor:

    Quote:

    C Drive: (WDC WD3200AAKS-00L9A0) 11334MB out of 305234MB (3%) free
Windows, of any flavor, doesn't perform well with that little free space percentage. Optimally, keep the drive at 20% - 25% Free Space or higher to avoid those performance problems.

Lastly, a HiJackThis log would be helpful in determining if there are other issues at work than what the CoH Helper report shows.
