Congratulations EM.
So long, again.
Hope to have you back for a 4th iteration. -
Quote:Guess I've just been lucky on the other forums I use that run on vBulletin. Of course, it still doesn't exclude the possibility of being a configuration issue. It's happened to my wife on a few other vBulletin forums. After I found out it happened to her, too, I did a search, and found a lot of people complaining about it on vBB's forums, and the reply I saw was pretty much, "It's not OUR fault. You can't prove it, so we're not going to bother to see if it IS our fault.".
This was back in November, so things may have changed since then...
In any event, since I've had it happen no matter what browser I'm using on these forums and others have as well, I'm pretty well ruling out the browser as being the issue. -
-
The only problem I have with that line of thought is that I frequent several other forums that use vBulletin and none of them have this problem. Everyone I've talked to (that manage vBulletin forums) about various problems I've seen here on the forums seems to think it's a configuration issue caused by people not knowing what they are doing. There have been configuration problems since they moved to vBulletin that tend to make me agree with that assessment.

Quote:When I started my post, the CoH Helper ended at the Sound cards. You edited the post while I was typing my reply. The only thing that really stands out is the Ambient Occlusion settings. I'd shut off AO entirely to see if it has any effect on the problems. There is a full report there on my second post, in the code window which you find so difficult to handle.
As for the code tags being more difficult to handle, not everyone is running on a wide screen monitor or even a high resolution monitor. I'm often posting from an odd location while taking a lunch break or while waiting for software updates to install on a computer at work, such as on that day. The computer I was on was an older laptop with a lower resolution screen and no mouse or touchpad. The forum posts barely fit the width of the screen for normal posts. The use of the code tags expanded the width of the post making scrolling more difficult within the tags since it also required scrolling horizontally as well as laterally. That makes it difficult to scroll back and forth for referencing entries in the post. And since the code tags aren't necessary to post the CoH Helper output or the HJT output, it makes little sense to use it.
Quote:
Basically your saying you have no idea what is going on and grasping at straws. Regardless, I've tested and none of those apps are causing CoH to think it's out of memory.
Anyone else have any theories as to why CoH would say it is out of memory when it is not? -
After fighting the headache of trying to scroll through the HJT log, I'd recommend shutting down WinPatrol, your Remote Potato and Team Viewer, KMPlayer, Snackr, xchat and Messenger and possibly even the AVG ID Protection stuff.
I would definitely stop the Input Director services.
If these steps resolve the problem you can enable them one at a time and test for a few days to find out which is causing the problem. -
You still aren't getting the full CoH Helper output into your posts. And please, don't use the code tags, just paste it into the post.
To run CoH Helper correctly download and save it to your desktop. Right-click the saved file and select Run As Administrator.
Click the Forum Output button and wait for it to finish. Start a new reply in this thread and hold the CTRL button down and tap the V key. This will paste the CoH Helper output into the post. If the CoH Helper output still ends at your Sound Drivers, something on your system is preventing it from accessing the Registry. You'll need to correct that in order to get the complete output.
It's also possible that if it is something on your computer blocking CoH Helper from accessing the registry that that same something is also keeping the game from accessing the registry correctly or other files on your computer. -
Setting the shortcut to Run As Administrator is fine, but you shouldn't have to set it to run in XP mode. Try it without running it in XP Compatibility Mode.
There are two other settings you may want to put a check mark in on the Compatibility tab of the Properties page:
Disable Desktop Composition
Disable Visual Themes
Some like to Disable Display Scaling on High DPI Settings as well, but that's purely up to you. -
Two questions.
1. When you run CoH Helper, you are downloading it to the hard drive and then right-clicking the file and selecting Run as Administrator, correct?
2. Are you using a non-US version of Windows? For example, in the UK the standard date format is slightly different than the US date format. This often causes dates to appear odd in the CoH Helper report. -
Quote:Did you file a /bug report? Is this bug ever going to get a fix? The cup from the drink emote on a huge model toon comes out of the side of the hand... it's... kind of distressing. <_<;...
Did a search and haven't found any mention of this... though my search-fu may be off.
Thanks in advance! (I hope ._.) -
Quote:That wasn't anywhere close to what I said. I merely reported the results of my testing and that I was unable to reproduce it. I also mentioned that one of the networks uses a content filter as well as a proxy.Right. And we all know that because one person can't reproduce a problem, that means it doesn't exist.
Tony apparently wanted me to post something constructive, so I did. I tested what he was reporting to the best that I could and reported the results of the test. Are you saying we are only supposed to report testing results if they were the same as his?
I appreciate the friends I have locally that allowed me to use their networks to perform the tests, especially since one of them did so outside of normal working hours. Apparently people actually testing things and reporting the results isn't good enough for some people on the forums, so if all you are going to do is take potshots at someone that actually tries to test what is reported then I won't bother with the tests I was going to try on another network running a proxy. -

Quote:I'm not asking for technical assistance, it's not THAT important to me, and I don't want to deal with the standard, "Okay, we'll ponder it at some point" tech support reply. I'm simply reporting the problem, and offering my assistance is needed.Quote:
Okay, this has been irritating me for some time, so I thought I'd start a thread on it to see if it can get a little love and attention.

You may want to alert your web services team that this is happening. If you want, I might be able to help troubleshooting by accessing the forums via our proxy and let you guys trace it to find out what's happening; however, since I don't have admin access to the proxy itself, I can only be the guinea pig who runs attempted postings that are affected. Let me know if you want me to do anything. -
Quote:If you look at the heading at the top of the forum, you will see the text I quoted above.
Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs Discuss gameplay / technical issues or bugs here! This is NOT a forum where official technical/QA support is available. For technical assistance email support@coh.com.
Since you are asking for technical assistance, that would be the recommended course. -
Quote:Your video card drivers are almost 3 years old. If you don't want to try the newest drivers for your video card, I'd recommend upgrading to at least the 197.45 drivers since they are compatible with the graphics changes made in Issue 17 that your older drivers don't support.

Download the drivers but don't install them yet. Download and install Driver Sweeper but don't run it yet. Uninstall the video card drivers and software from Add/Remove Programs. Reboot into Windows Safe Mode by pressing F8 rapidly during the boot process. Cancel any New Hardware Wizards that come up. Run Driver Sweeperand have it remove the remnants of the old nVidia drivers. Reboot into normal Windows mode but cancel any New Hardware Wizards that come up. Install the drivers you downloaded earlier.

One thing that I'm beginning to see a bit of a trend in is that several people reporting this type of problem are running Avast Anti-Virus software. Try putting the CoH directory in the exclusion list so that the game files aren't being scanned as you play. -
Quote:Well, we can start with the questions asked just a few posts before yours.I'm getting this, and it started yesterday. I updated my net framework as some forums in aion suggested, but it still isn't working. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the launcher as well.
I used the link and i can normally get there fine, but as soon as it's finished either downloading or repairing itself, it crashes.
"NCSoft Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Any ideas?
Quote:Need to know a little more information here; what OS are you running? 32 or 64-bit? If it's 7 or Vista do you have UAC enabled? Did you use the most recent version of the Launcher installer from ftp://ftp.ncsoft.com/Launcher/NCsoftLauncherSetup.exe ? -
Heh, someone posted a silly drawing of the People's Elbow, but Mod 07 is much cooler than that.
He goes for either the original, the Bionic Elbow as delivered by The American Dream Dusty Rhodes
or the equally impressive Diving Elbow Drop as delivered by the recently departed Macho Man Randy Savage

OK. That let's us know that it's likely a setting that is hanging you up. So, launch the game in Safe Mode and one-by-one adjust the graphics settings and save them. I would even quit to the Desktop after making any change and see if you can get back in. If not, you know to launch in Safe Mode again and NOT change whatever that setting was. It's more time-consuming doing it this way, but it let's you know exactly which setting/settings is causing your problem.
As for the Administrator thing, Windows Vista and Windows 7 behave differently from previous versions of Windows.
Even if you are on the only account on the computer, there are some things you need to Run as Administrator to do correctly. It's a security thing for your protection. The easiest thing to do is to just right-click your shortcut to the launcher and select Run as Administrator. You could also right-click the shortcut and go to the Properties then set it to Run as Administrator on the Compatibility tab. -
Quote:Based on Avatea's post yesterday, I don't think that's what the problem is.It appears to be a little overloaded atm, please people give it time, to recover before you crash the thing!
I don't know how long the copy list queue is but all these character name invalids make me think that the queue is FULL! -

The only other things I see that concern me are the Unknown entry on the Anti-Aliasing and the lack of Service Pack 1. I don't think either one would cause this problem though.
It's possible that the video driver installation may be corrupted, and you did mention there were concerns about the video card (without any details). You could always download the 11.4 drivers but not install them yet, uninstall the existing drivers and the CCC from Programs and Features in the Control Panel, reboot into Safe Mode and run Driver Sweeper to get rid of the remnants of the old drivers, reboot into normal Windows and install the drivers from the downloaded file.
I'm not seeing any of the programs that are known to cause this type of problem in the HJT logs or anything really out of the ordinary other than what's been mentioned.
Are you running the Launcher as Administrator?
As Mandu said, try running it in Safe Mode to see if that will let the game launch.
