Fix the Forum sudden Logout bug

First point of order; No, this doesn't belong in suggestions. This should be common sense.

Second. It's been how long since the unannounced logout bug has been around, and it STILL hasn't been fixed?

Who runs the forums? What are they doing with their time, exactly?
Seriously.

See also long thread several months old (and still being updated) in tech issues.

It was a little better (logging out every few days instead) for a while.

Look at the plus (?!?) side... at least it isn't doing what Aion's forums did a while back... leave you suddenly logged in as someone else and in another section of the forum. That was OH so fun.

Um...

isn't that exactly what he said - that it didn't belong in suggestions? Which, by posting the description, you essentially agreed with - then said "try again?"

Common sense - so rare it's a superpower.
BTW, profanity doesn't help make your point. It just makes it seem like you couldn't come up with a coherent argument.

Oh, probably doing their jobs. Seriously. Does it occur to you that this may be a problem with the software itself, which was not written by NCSoft?

The only problem I have with that line of thought is that I frequent several other forums that use vBulletin and none of them have this problem. Everyone I've talked to (that manage vBulletin forums) about various problems I've seen here on the forums seems to think it's a configuration issue caused by people not knowing what they are doing. There have been configuration problems since they moved to vBulletin that tend to make me agree with that assessment.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Easiest solution is just use another browser. It's annoying to say the least that there is a bug but it's obvious they aren't too concerend about it and a easy low tech solutioin is available.

And lets be honest.. the forums have seen better days and you probably aren't missing much anyway.

First thing I noticed after my 7 month break. Something's changed around here.

On topic, Techbot Alpha, I only use Chrome for browsing these days and do so on three commputers: XP workstation at work, XP workstation at home, Win 7 laptop at home. I've been back for about 5 weeks now, I guess, and I've been incorrectly logged out of the forums 4 times.

Annoying? Yes. Losing track of new posts is definitely that. Low priority on the "fix it" scale. More than likely.

I've also noticed in game that enemies are fleeing far too easily when hit by ANY debuff, even defense debuffs from claws/slash or tohit debuffs from dark melee.

And animation rooting is broken badly. I can hover around with my kheldian and have attack animations fail to fire off regularly and no rooting occurring at all.

The point to these other items? I don't see them getting fixed either.

Be well, people of CoH.

Using Chrome as well Bill. It's when I get logged out twice in a row and nearly lose large posts in the process that things start to get beyond a joke.

Oh, and here's a wonderfully broken scenario to top of the fail-list with.
Villain mission where you have to stop Hero-con Crimson from fleeing the map.
He spawns in a mob with a LB Kinetics Warden. Guess who went speeding off the map at the run-speed limit..?

Except that doesn't affect the problem one jot or one iota.

And here - I primarily use Chrome. Happens often enough to be annoying. I have kept Firefox up to date... and have had it happen there on the rare uses. I hop into a Mint VM and have had it happen there (Firefox and Konqueror.)

As someone else mentioned - the forum software is used *elsewhere* without these problems. They should be able, after all these months, to find out just why these logouts keep happening.

In my case that doesn't hold true. I have Safari, Firefox 4 and IE8.

Firefox drops my login soon as I change pages.
IE 8 works just fine. I had 9 before I ugpraded to 64 windows from 32 bit and that worked fine as well.
I haven't tried safari since 8 works but I would guess it would work since it's more like IE than Firefox is.

Perhaps it's a browser issue, maybe something with ip6 or whatever that crap is called that causes all kinds of issues?

I've noticed this more often on Chrome, but it has happened frequently on everything I've used... Chrome, IE8,9, Firefox.... It does get old.

And in mine it does. Over multiple systems and VMs. I *wish* it were just a Chrome issue. It would still be irritating, but I have no issues with jumping browsers (Firefox now copies bookmarks/settings across machines, too - though you need a code for it.)

It's happened to my wife on a few other vBulletin forums. After I found out it happened to her, too, I did a search, and found a lot of people complaining about it on vBB's forums, and the reply I saw was pretty much, "It's not OUR fault. You can't prove it, so we're not going to bother to see if it IS our fault.".

This was back in November, so things may have changed since then...

Before switching primarily to Chrome, this happened just as often on IE8/9 (whichever it was)
It seems to happen irrespective of browser.

Guess I've just been lucky on the other forums I use that run on vBulletin. Of course, it still doesn't exclude the possibility of being a configuration issue.

In any event, since I've had it happen no matter what browser I'm using on these forums and others have as well, I'm pretty well ruling out the browser as being the issue.

Well, we figured something had broken. After all, your initial post was bad enough that it needed to be moderated.
