Quote:There's one particularly annoying character in Episode I who makes me cringe just about every time words issue from his mouth. His presence makes the movie rather unwatchable for me.I still can't grasp how anyone can prefer Episode II (an entirely unnecessary movie) and III (watch how Anakin Skywalker goes from indecisive over turning to the dark side to killing children in no time at all) to Episode I, which isn't such a bad Star Wars story (though it has little to do with the grander arc of the series).
I refer, of course, to young Anakin. My left eye has begun twitching just remembering an errant "Yippee". -
I'd be mostly happy with the set if the movement penalties were a great deal less irritating and didn't disallow nearly all movement powers. I'd be completely mollified if Granite were customizable along with that.

Quote:When you buy a $1 scratch-off lottery ticket you get a piece of nicely-printed card stock coated with some sort of scratchable surface that would probably cost more than $1 for most people to individually produce. Ergo, it doesn't matter whether you win or not with such a ticket - you haven't gambled because you got *something* that was worth the money by a personally meaningless metric. The Superpacks have a set cost, of which you will always receive a group of items for that are worth that much. Let me restate - The items you get in a Superpack are, monetarily, the value of the points you are paying for them. You always get your amount of points worth of 'stuff' when a pack is purchased (actually, you get quite a lot more than that, given that if you bought the items from any one Superpack individually from the Store, it'd cost a lot more than 80 Paragon Points).
There is literally no chance at all of spending money and gaining nothing, like actual gambling.
I understand that people might feel slighted about the 'chance' aspects for items they'd rather get and that the personal value of the various items will vary from person to person. However, while that might influence personal decisions to purchase the packs, the fact remains that the Packs are not, money-wise, gambling. -
My SoA is the only character to date for which I've used the option of having multiple builds. I went Crab first, but while soloing for quite a while it wasn't working out too well for me so I made a Bane build for soloing.
If I understand correctly, a third potential build is unlocked with Incarnate slots, at which point I may make a whaddya-call-it-Wolf-Soldier?-type build. I miss the AoE web grenade, though I can't bring myself to mix the gun with mace/leg attacks. -
I solo'd it on my WP/SS Tanker who was +0 at the time. It took *forever* but the only danger was me falling asleep at the keyboard (I nodded off two or three times for a few minutes as I recall).
I went in with NPCs on my +2 Elec/NRG Blaster. The NPCs all died at the first group of monsters just over the bridge. I finished the mission largely by blasting from up on mountain perches starting from full Boost Range distance. I died 2 or 3 times and emptied my Insp tray (or nearly so). And after that experience I decided to auto-complete various missions in the DA arcs with this character, including the final battle.
The mission could be fun with a real team, but I have yet to find it enjoyable solo. Too many overly-durable enemies that potentially do too much damage. -
Quote:Interesting. I earned it once and had absolutely no use for it on that character. I looked at it in the costume creator and contemplated various costumes that I might use on a new character incorporating those pieces, but since they weren't available starting out they remained useless and I never bothered chasing them again. On the other hand, I earned the Roman set from the ITF. Now, this is no great feat, thousands of others have done so as well. But I have a bit more affection for that set because I earned it.
I was happy when it became potentially available for everyone from the start. It didn't kill a piece of the game for me, it brought a dead piece to life.
Quote:What I find absolutely fascinating about this discussion is the complete inability of the participants (on both sides, I count myself), to accept what the other says at face value. I am becoming more convinced by the post that this is exactly like politics or religion. We come at the problem from different starting points, different value systems and so when I say something like, "Some items in the marketplace bother ME irrespective of the actions of others", others who disagree can't even comprehend how that can be true. -
Quote:Potentially true (and perhaps even likely), but I wouldn't say it's a wholly logical conclusion. Indeed, I'd say getting upset over such a situation would be pretty illogical in the first place. It's an ugly situation no matter what. But more people would, logically, be upset if something they went to support was later released to the masses anyway, and just 'rode on our coat tails'.
The ugly situation could be avoided entirely by not putting exclusive items in the Super Packs - in which case they become more like grab bags, which are a way to get non-exclusive items on the cheap in random assortment. (Oh, Crystal Caste, how I loved your assorted dice grab bags...) -

Quote:An argument that many institutions engaged in an unsavory practice for purportedly beneficial reasons might make.I don't doubt that, but the point was that its very easy to say there are alternatives and claim to be willing to accept the potentially very deleterious problems associated with those alternatives when you have no direct stake in whether those problems actually arise.
-
That's another reason I would much prefer to get them in a single package.

Quote:I, for one, find it more acceptable than the current state of affairs. If knowing the items will eventually be sold ala carte after the superpacks are discontinued reduces the amount of income they make on superpacks because a significant number of people wait, is that just an acceptable risk you're willing to take?

Quote:It had music by Queen in it and led to the most kickass music video ever...your arguement that the movie was bad is invalid
It had Clancy Brown playing the Kurgan, too.
The fact that the protagonist was expected to win is about the worst argument one could make to support it being a bad movie. That's true of most heroic action movies. Anyone who went into Die Hard seriously expecting McClane to be the one who dies hard was an idiot. Anyone who expected Conan to be defeated by Thulsa Doom was truly naive. -
Quote:If I'm only taking two of the Leadership toggles, I tend to take Assault and Tactics and skip Maneuvers. But even if I went for Maneuvers I'd probably take Tactics - one of my pet peeves is the Blinded status and I like to make darn sure I have some protection from it.I must live on another planet because I'm rarely on teams with players who actually have tactics...maneuvers and assault yes, but tactics is kinda rare unless I'm on a team with more than one MM or a SoA or three.
I'm also somewhat of a loaner though so that could be it lol. -

Quote:Yeah, that was one of the things that really irked me. Way to devalue that whole heroic sacrifice, guys. They pulled out some twist that really lacked any build up (Tenzin and the kids were captured, we just didn't tell you! Ahahaha!)
But I guess it wasn't much of a sacrifice anyway, since everything almost immediately went back to normal because... uh... a wizard did it. Yeah.
It was an excellent season right up to that bunk ending. I had to wonder if they ended it that way in case it wasn't going to get a second season. -
Haven't seen the movie yet, but I enjoyed the book a little while back. I'm interested in the movie, but it's one that I'll probably wait for to show up on Netflix or something.

Quote:I probably would've noticed that it was a Newsie when I got down to it. It's a similar style at a glance, though, and I'm afraid I don't spend a great deal of time admiring LSZ's hat(s).It's a shame you'd do that.
Since the hats Zwilikemyhats wears are not berets.
They are known as Ivy Caps or Newsboy Hats.
Berets are completely different in looks. -
If only I still had my desktop PC, I'd totally put LSP in a beret and glasses.

Given how they've gone about it so far, they'll probably never put out content to solve the issue. Indeed, experience shows that instead they'll more likely put out content that compounds the issue.
