Will he, though? Since most enemies have more than one power, they will cycle through several attacks for recharge reasons. Will they really stick to melee attacks only, just because they're standing close enough? Or will they also use ranged and/or AOE attacks, because the melee attack(s) are currently recharging?

Also, and this was just a feeling I had, is it possible that many attacks of high level enemies are considered to be AOEs even if they don't hit a very large area, like, say, the heavier Broadsword attacks?

The character I was talking about is a rad/rad/dark defender that I was thinking about giving a second build for solo play, and thus was looking for IOE set bonuses to defend him. Unfortunately, for some obscure reason there aren't nearly enough slots to raise all three positional defense values to the cap.

3. Hi everybody,

I was considering a new build for a character of mine when I began to think about which positional defense was more useful.

There are several ways to test this. (One could take a super reflexes scrapper, switch off one of the three defenses, and see how long it takes to be defeated by different mobs; or one could fight a longer fight against multiple mobs and then go through the combat log and separately count the melee, ranged, and AOE attacks ...)

But before I spend several days experimenting I'd like to ask your opinion: Which positional attacks do you think are more common in the game? (Maybe someone even already has numbers for this?)

My first guess is that while melee attacks are by far the most common attack type in the lower levels, ranged attacks will appear more often in the middle levels, and AOE attacks will probably win in the level 40 and higher category. (This isn't based on any testing yet.)

I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.

Thanks,

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Ok, so you have clicked on one of the numerous blue panels, found the mission you want to play and clicked 'play' (or in the case of testing your own mission you have found your own mission in "My Local Stories" opened the tab and clicked 'test').

[/ QUOTE ]
Insert the "are you sure" messagebox here. Clicking "cancel" will return to the Architect window, clicking "accept" closes the Architect window.

<blockquote><font class="small">Antwort auf:<hr />

After that you have turned to the contact hologram only to find it has stayed exactly the same as the weird green thing.

[/ QUOTE ]
Not only that, but the game also doesn't put me into TF mode (as can be seen by the team window). It doesn't launch the arc at all.

It seems that I actually encountered the bug Ashuora linked to, the only difference being that I created AND tried to play the mission arc on the same non-English server, but with the client set to English, apparently with a similar result.

Let's hope the devs will fix this quickly. Thanks for your help!

5. Hi everyone,

while browsing the mission list in Architect Entertainment I found that I couldn't activate some missions. For some reason the game just closes the Architect window when I click on "accept" but doesn't load the contact.

At first I thougth that those missions were ones that had been invalidated by one of the patches. But:

The same now even happens when I try to test my own brand new mission! When I click on "accept", the contact hologram doesn't change and I can't test my own mission.

The mission editor doesn't show any errors, though. Any hints on how I could enter the missions? Thanks!

NPC?

Hi,

could anybody tell me whether (and how) it is possible to have a person (NPC) wandering around (or standing somewhere) in an Architect mission just to speak some text? Or would I need to make her a hostage?

If I can't add NPCs to a mission like that, would it be possible to force the game to have a single level 1 enemy on the map even if the other enemies have higher levels, without the game server complaining that the level range is invalid?

Thanks,

7. Did anybody notice that there are two distinct badges named "Shop Keeper" (two words) and "Shopkeeper" (one word)? One can be gained by logging out in a store, the other by selling many (many many) things at Wentworth's.

Hopefully the devs will rename one of the badges. But considering how long there were two badges both named "Liberator", this could take some time...

8. Heisen everybody,

I think I read a statement somewhere along the lines that the Devs were planning to update all ancillary powersets with a fifth power now that several of them already gained a new tier-2 power with i13. If I recall correctly they even thought about creating some completely new powers for this.

I can't, however, find any mention of that by now. So, was that wishful thinking on my part and my memory failed me, or is there any hope for a time when all the epic power pools will have five powers?

(And if it actually is true, did we already get any hints about what new powers will be added or when this will happen? Right now I'm planning three respecs, and I'm hesitating because of the new choices that might be available soon.)

Thanks for any information on this!

9. Greetings!

My volcano-themed fire/kinetics controller reached level 41 this weekend, and I'm not sure which epic pool I want to open for him.

I'm considering fire (more fire effects certainly fit the theme) and stone (since volcanoes are known for, among other things, throwing rocks around).

With fire I don't seem to need Consume, so basically I get two attacks and an armor. With stone, I will absolutely NOT take the rock armor (since it clashes horribly with my costume), but the other abilities all seem to be fine (actually, I'm not sure whether I'd get enough slots for the other four. ).

Since I haven't had any real experience with either set I'd like your opinion. Are there compelling reasons to take one over the other?

By the way, is there already some information about which new power will be inserted into the fire epic pool?

Thanks for any opinions,

A small aside but the reason the WP taunt aura is so poor is that it has taunt duration 1 second, ticks every 2 seconds, compared to inv/ice/stone/fire/dark which have taunt duration 13.5 seconds, ticks every 1 second.

[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, my! Is is really that bad? So maybe that's the reason why I couldn't really feel much of an aggro difference between my other characters and my first tanker (WP/DB).

It might be a good idea now that you can totally turn off XP, so if you're trying to see all the content, you can have more missions on the go at once.

[/ QUOTE ]

You can have as many "open" contacts as you like already, since you're not required to accept the next mission in an arc right away. If you don't feel like playing the missions contact #1 is offering right now, accept a mission from contact #2 instead. You will be able to return to contact #1 (or any other from your list) later and pick up the story arc where you left it.

I'm not saying that it'd necessarily be a bad idea to allow more than three open missions, but I don't see a real need for this, either.

This idea occurred to me a while back: Why not have some stock market information available (naturally tied to Wentworth's and the Black Market) so that people can see the overall 'performance' of various types of salvage, recipes and the like?

[/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely.

I was thinking over the weekend that an RSS Feed of the current market states would be a nice feature for Web Site Developers as well, listing the last 100 items sold and updating every minute or so.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I would not like this. If it was that easy for players to get information about full sales histories, prices wouldn't fluctuate as much, reducing the chance that players can get more influence for their "Insert Name Of Drop Here" they found than their average worth.

For the truly rare INODHs not much would change, since the "last five sales" history we have now is mostly identical to the "last couple of weeks" trend for them.

But just imagine: If you knew that most sales of your desired INODH happened for the price of, say, between 200 inf and 500 inf, you probably wouldn't bid 20k inf for it even if the last few sales were between 20k inf and 50k inf (perhaps because earlier somebody didn't care about paying more than necessary).

If, on the other hand, you did not know the exact average price, you can either guess a price and the finder of that INODH may be lucky and get these 20k inf, or you actually monitor the prices for the INODH and "earn" your bargain buy.

Speaking of that, a full sales history might even alienate players who "play" the market?

(Disclaimer: I'm not a professional economist; it's quite possible that I might be wrong. That's just my sentiments on the subject.)

Why does it matter?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm just curious, trying to understand the mechanisms in the game.

(I was thinking about where the level 52 Hami-Os might be coming from, and then I went through the consignment house histories and looked for other "rare" sales, and came across those base salvage sales that I couldn't explain.)

14. The US boards get quite a lot of developer attention. I'd like to know whether they also follow the EU boards? (Or do the Community Coordinators relay all interesting discussions, proposals, and questions to a developer?)

Can we get write access to the US boards even if we're playing on the EU servers, or would we need to get a US account for that?

15. Greetings,

since some enemy groups exist only Villainside, their base salvage doesn't seem to exist Heroside. This can be verified by the fact that a few pieces of salvage have no history of ever being sold at Wentworth's.

Nonetheless a few pieces of those base salvage types sometimes do show up Heroside. Sales are scarce, but do happen.

The last time when a few such types of salvage were sold (e.g. a Wyvern "Trick Arrow") was on November 9th, but not again since then. (The same is true for a Luddite "Treatise", and some others.)

Does anybody know where those things come from? Can they be acquired by fighting in the Arena, maybe with gladiators? Is there a way to actually fight Wyvern or Luddites Heroside? Was there a special event on or directly before 2008-11-9 that could have yielded that salvage?

Or... might this even be proof of the Consignment House rumour? (The one which claims that NCsoft programmed Wentworth's in a way that the game "finds" a seller and gives you an item if your bid is high enough and you wait long enough, even if no one actually put that item up for sale...)

[/ QUOTE ]

Sure, for regular level 50 HOs. But what about the level 52 ones? Where do they come from? I was under the impression that they are no longer awarded on Hamidon Raids, so either the same old ones are re-sold again and again, or there's a new source for them?

10

17. Ah, I believe I get it. The mood is similar to "when Dinosaurs ruled the world". Thanks!

So the German translation of the badge title ("Kind der Erde" ~ "Child of the Earth") really doesn't match.

Oh, and The_Phantoms: Why "Dr Nick"? Who's that?

10

18. Hi everybody,

I was curious about the "Walks the Earth" badge title. (That's the one for the level 35/40 travel power IO memorization badge.)

I can translate it literally, arriving at "somebody who moves about on the surface of the planet on foot" (or something like that). But is that really everything? I've got a hunch feeling that this might be an idiomatic expression, or something used in a specific context.

Unfortunately my search-fu failed to turn up any explanations on this. Could any native speaker or knowledgeable individual shed some light on this?

Thanks for any insights here,

Level 52 HamiOs?

Hi, everybody!

The COH wiki claims that the bug about Hamidon-Origin enhancements (HOs / HamiOs) dropping with a level higher than 50 has been fixed with issue #9.

So the supply of those things should have all but dried up by now. Nevertheless the consignment house still lists some recent sales for them!

Do people really pass them back and forth without ever actually slotting them (or using respecs to un-slot them), or is there still a source that continues to produce them?

And what's the final word on level 52 HamiOs? Since the developers apparently never intended them to exist, are they even "legit"? Is their use being frowned upon? Are they an exploit and basically could be erased from a character at any time the developers feel like it?

Thanks for any information on this,

20. Hi everybody!

I've been playing City of Heroes for quite a while now. I still like it, of course - right now I am thinking about the next two hero concepts I could play. But I haven't really been playing City of Villains. At all. (Sure, I've rolled up a few villain characters, but not a single one exceeded level 10.)

It's not that I'm not interested. On the contrary, I'm quite curious about the later background settings in the game. Experiencing new task (nee strike) forces, meeting new Giant Monsters, just seeing new zones and getting interesting new story arcs... sounds pretty exciting! Unfortunately, I still haven't found a character to explore all of that with. I myself don't know why my other villains all failed. Perhaps I'm not a villain at heart, but maybe I just failed to create a villain costume I could relate to...

Well, it's been a while since I gave it a try, so I'm considering starting a new villain next, in part because I came up with a costume design I really like that works Villainside, too. Sooo - I'd like to ask the players with more villainous experience points than myself for advice. What kind of villain should I try?
<ul type="square">[*]A corruptor? That's a definite possibility. They can't solo very well, though, can they?[*]A stalker? Assassinating seems to be interesting, but is it enough for 50 levels of playing hide-and-seek?[*]A mastermind? Tempting, especially since this archetype is completely different from anything Heroside has to offer. But aren't they very difficult to play later on? Controlling so many pets, with so many settings, and probably requiring more keybinds than I've got keys on my keyboard?[*]A dominator? One of the last villains I tried was one, but all the time I couldn't decide between control powers or damage powers. What do people actually do with dominators?[*]A brute? But isn't that just a mixture of a situational scrapper and a suboptimal tanker? (Well, I need more training in proper tanking, anyway...)
So which Villainside archetype do you think is best suited to experience more (and hopefully most) of City of Villains for the first time?

Thanks for any advice!

21. Ah, vielen Dank, soweit klar.

Nochmals danke an Euch,

22. Hallo allerseits,
