  1. I'm sure the film will be passable as far as entertainment for me goes, but even from the trailer I knew that the 3D would be for "ooh pokey in the face, watch this fly out at you" which is pure crap imop.
  2. I stand corrected. It's been a long time since I've used WM and as such I probably missed that the knock back was changed to knock down. Are the top teir attacks changed from kd to kb when a kb is slotted? That's how far back it's been for me.
  3. I've only watched these films with something close to mild amusement, when sick too. I was excited about he first, but it was just handled so poorly.

The idea of werewolves vs. vampires couldn've been awesome. But then, in the first film we have the vamps fighting the wolves by...standing still and shooting. The battle choreography could have been amazing with vamps hanging from ceilings, clinging to walls, leaping about to get the best vantage point to fire from. Then the wolves could be leaping about, pulling them down, it should have been a glorious arial ballet of gunfire, claws, and bloodsed. So much potential wasted...
  4. It's rather difficult to choose the worst possible AT powerset combo in the game. Much of this depends on the player's skill with an AT's particular playstyle or even within the playstyle within the powerset combinations of an AT. There are some however that have such little synergy that they end up being quite simply poor choices that make for more difficult play.

Blasters: Electric / Devices. This set has such little synergy. Electric has low single target damage with no teir 3 single target attack. It's AoE is low. Devices is horrible for team play and only really has caltrops going for it. Solo it requires a lot of set up, with long animation times, and while it can end up being rather safe once all this set up is completed, any other combo will pull ahead simply due to sheer speed thanks to damage, multiple possible deaths included.

Controllers: Grav / Sonic. I love Grav, my first character to 50 is my Grav / Kin troller. That being said, paring Grave with Sonic makes for a very difficult soloing experience. Teams don't need the single target damage of a Grav controller, which is all it really has at the low levels. Then when pets come into play, any other troller pet can make use of the sonic debuff toggle, except trollers due to singy's repel aura.

Defenders and Corruptors: I'd have to go with Sonic / Electric. Force Field in comparision at least allows for a measure of ability to solo with cap'd defense. Sonic makes it much harder to do so. Again electric has no synergy with sonic, poor single target damage, and little aoe. Sonic has other problems, with many powers not having IO sets, no psi resists, and long recharge on its debuffs.

Current Peacebringers, and I'm not too sure the changes for i21 will do the trick, though it'll certainly help. But, I'm betting that post-change it'll probably be better that electric / devices Blaster

Brute / Scrapper: War Mace / Engery Aura. At least currently. And I'll place a major caveat here, any of the melee sets will probably still be easier for most people to handle than some of the AT powerset combos mentioned above, though if someone really can't play a melee person well, this is for them.

War Mace isn't actually that bad, its just not better than anything else Brutes currently have. The problem is that even post energy aura changes, War Mace has too problems that hinder its pairing with a set that will require mobs to be in melee range. It has many powers that disorient, which can force mobs to wander out of range, and its 2 top teir attacks cause knock back, one of which is a cone. While a skilled player can use knock back as an advantage even for melee ATs (it can be a great defensive opener), its dependant on the terrain, and even the powerset. Super Reflexes being positional defense in nature and doesn't require mobs to be in range inorder to provide the set any benefit, can really benefit from disoriented and knocked-back mobs. Not so much with /EA.

Tanker: Fiery Aura / Ice melee. I love FA but there's a reason its referred to as the Blaster set of Tanks. It's still probably the least survivable of the primary tanker sets outside of electric armor. Again there's a caveat that with IOs either can really pull ahead and do very, very well. The reason I chose this combo was because at least Ice Melee provides an Ice Patch that can really work well with high recharge builts and ElA to where mobs are flopping about and you can eventually end drain them. It'll be slow certainly, but with Burn only affecting 5 mobs, the damage output doesn't quite make up for the fact that now Ice Patch only really benefits FA in that it provides a moment to use Healing Flames, where as with Electric there's at least 2 powers that can be utilized during the patch to keep you going. That being said, while this set is probably the slowest at plodding along to take out and survive mobs, I'd still place it above the my top 3 of the worst.

Dominator: again I'd have to go with Gravity. Doms don't need the single target attacks in Grav and really benefit from sets that provide some form of control early on. That said, since gravity only has 2 aoe hard controls in the late game, sets that hare single target heavy absent of secondary control effects are probably the least synergistic. I'd probably place Grav / Electric Assault as the worst possible combination.

Stalker: I'm going to go with Energy Melee / Electric Aura. Nothing against EM or really any of the stalker primaries at all. It's this parting with ElA. First, ElA is solely bast on resists for an AT reliant on defense. It's low HP doesn't benefit much of resists. Even when compared to DA, DA at least has 2 control-esque toggles to help with mitigation. ElA only has the ability to drain end to assist in the mitigation of the set, which simply isn't enough for Stalkers. But since that's what it has to offer, paring it with Energy Melee is a poor choice due to the disoritents. Some may say this is perfect in order to provide soft control for a secondary lacking such, but since the secondary needs mobs in range to drain end, having them druken stumble away is counter productive. Also, it's difficult to juggle any medium sized gathering of mobs with single target attacks to keep enough sufficiently disoriented inorder to simply keep standing to fight them off.

I wish I could provide more infor on this last AT, MMs, but I'm not experienced enough with the various primaries to say which is the least synergistic, and thus poorest combination. I know that the Ninja and Mercs have some difficulties, and I'd imagine paring one or the other with something like Force Field makes for slow profress, but eventually, it probably will still be better than some of what I've mentioned above.

For me, the worst of the worst is my #1 pick: Electric / Devices Blaster.
  5. No, Spock's just half-human, and while still logically driven, over the years he's learned the value of some of those human tendencies to feel. The Vulcan losing logic was a disease that struck Sarek in TNG series.

Spock only blamed himself for not getting there in time, and that's a rather understandable feeling.

Were I on the writing team I probably would've had Spock show up in time, use the red matter, but have an unknown side effect occur with the super nova where not only was Romulus destroyed in one universe, but have it be sucked into a cross-dimensional / cross-alternate unversal type of black hole. Basically, Romulus gets removed from all space, everywhere, in every possible time period.

Now Spock has a real reason to blame himself, for not foreseeing such an event occuring prior to the use of Red Matter with the type of super nova occured. But Nero has a real reason to be pissed off at Spock because now there's no Romulus, regardless of what alternate universe they end up in. I mean it's already destroyed in the "prime universe" so it won't hurt any other stories happening in alternate universes.

Have Kirk's dad and his ship show up to examine what occured to Romulus, Nero pops up, recently having witnessed his planet destroyed, take out the star fleet ship because he feels star fleet is part to blame as well, because why not

Perhaps, but then the inverse can be said to be true too and thus, taking how things work in real life, almost nothing would be possible in many movies as well.

What's important is was what happened within the context provided for the story, possible?

In this case, quite clearly, it is. Of course what happened isn't possible or highly unlikely in the real world. But, given these facts:

The call comes out from Vulcan that its under attack.
Star Fleet mobilizes, and due to the approximated nature of the threat, needs to man all their ships, including the recently built Enterprise
The almost the entire crew is manned by people that just graduated from Star Fleet.
    Fleet warps and is destroyed.
Enterprise makes it late to the party, Captain Pike needs to leave, places Spock (apparently the only non-recent graduate officer on ship besides the doctor who ends up dead anyway) in charge, and makes Kirk 2nd in command.
Spock ends up relinquising command to Kirk.
    Kirk saves the day.
Pike can't captain anymore, most of the fleet destroyed, this is wild west time for star fleet, admirals and such are a bit long in the tooth to go out into the wild, so young guy who saved the day after taking command of the ship is officially given command of the ship.

Those are the plot points, and while it's admittedly weak, the story bears out how it occurs.

The real plot hole is the time travel and poor character arc revolves around Nero, not Kirk. Even then, when taking into context of other Star Trek movie villains, Nero ends up merely serviceable in comparison. There were worse.

If my entire civilization had been destroyed by a supernova, and I had gotten thrown back in time, my first priority wouldn't be to take vengeance on the people who were trying to help me. It probably would've been to go and warn my civilization, or maybe try to work on something that could save them.

Still, given that the Romulans in this timeline should be at least semi-aware of their impending doom, having them be a little bit more aggressive as they try to find places that will be safe might not be a bad plot line.
It's not a gaping plot hole, its a weak plot point. I believe that there's plenty of information already provided within this thread that supports Kirk's promotion as plausable, in real world analagy, highly unlikely yes. BUT, it's a movie, a story, and given the context provided within the story, and not taking "but in the real world this wouldn't happen" into that context, Kirk's promotion is plausable.

Regarding Nero's character arc, this was the weakest part of the story for me. I won't take any of that unprovided background information into context of the story. Within the story itself, what we know is that Nero was away on his mining ship, he hears that his home planet is going to be destroyed, the Vulcans are slow to help, and don't save the day. He apparently didnt have time to get his wife off planet before its destruction in the film. Blaming Spock is easy, Romulans have hated Vulcans for so long, and tend to be more emotional than their couzins, that it's easy to say "You Vulcan's had a way to save our planet but shuffled your feet too long to get the job done".

I can see all that, but really it is still pretty weak, but I get it. It's the next step in that destroying the federation after he'd gotten his revenge that quite didn't make any sense to me.

And sense Nero had gone back in time-line plot, then Romulus was still there. He could've simply waited for Spock, captured him and made him figure out how to prevent the destruction of his planet before it occured. That's the plot hole of the time travel / alternate time-line plot. Otherwise what's the point in getting revenge when your planet is just going to end up suffering the same fate at some point in the future again?
  8. The way I see it, Regen should be able to resist regen debuff like SR resists def debuffs. Regen already has another weakness and that's to -recharge debuffs.

I say that the regen debuff resistance should scale with level and / or be modified by heal enhancements.

Also, some regen debuff resistance should be added to Instant Healing.
  9. I really hate the Rest icon bug. It is really annoying but only because I'm used to it appearing in the tray, it'd be nice for the run powers to show up too, but at least I know where to look. As someone else pointed out earlier, the Lambda run where you'd expect that people with level 50's would know about getting temp powers from the window and dragging them to the tray showed us that there are plenty of people that are pretty clueless about that.

I really hate the team mate zoning bug. Fine for when running normal missions with like level people since you can re-invite without too much worry. Nice to know about passing the star trick, though. But it's really not too cool in task forces.

There are quite a few map bugs that happen too. Every so often the mission map won't load into the map screen or there are missing portions where you see your position but no path of how you got there. Or sometimes in caves there's a literal black wall that you walk into and suddenly the rest of the cave loads if you look on the map screen, there's a thin, white line where the black wall appeared.

But this is an MMO, I think that bugs are standard with them. Particularly with one that's 7 years old. I recall a quote by an EQ dev one time trying to describe the difficulty in solving a bug they had where he basically said that the code was like jumbled spaghetti that needed to be unraveled one noodle at a time. Now that's messed up coding right there. The bugs I've encountered, and those that people talk about never seem to be so horrible that it'd cause me to stop playing though. City of Bugs, that's a first for me too.
  10. Exactly Arcana, you get the entire point of it.

I wonder (and this isn't meant as a jab toward Lothic or anyone else), but I wonder if this is a sign of the times where films are created with a more "realistic attitude". It seems that more often than not, people want everything the see in film or read in a book to "make sense" in terms of the current understanding of things and not "does it make sense in the world represented?".

Yes, as you stated, it's a weak plot point. Deconstructing almost any story, it's easy to say "hey look this is a weak plot point", but when taking into consideration the story as a whole, not just it's basic elements, but the world created therin, the characters, their actions, etc...then a weak plot point while remaining weak, simply ends up making sense.

The Death Star having an exhaust port with a straight channel to it's power core can be a weak plot point. Darth Stewie even mentions the fact that they could have at least placed a screen over it (or something to that effect). But it's there, and it works even if all reasoning screams otherwise. I wonder if a story like the original Star Wars would even fly with today's movie going crowd.
  11. I see quite a few people complaining about Kirk's presumably early promotion to Captain in the Abram's movie. Don't forget that in said film, most of the fleet had been destroyed, a lot of qualified captains, and their entire crews killed. Rebuilding and remanning the fleet requires some early promotions, and while Kirk's promotion was quite quick, even as battlefield promotions go, that's essentially what occured, battlefield promotion.

Also what needs to be taken into account is Pike's perspective of Kirk as captain material. They establish Kirk as a rather brilliant, capable, if brash man early in the film, and Pike quite readily promotes him to be behind spock on a crew of people that mostly just graduated from training. So don't forget that most of those crews still left are all probably inexperienced people having recently graduated, or still in training.

For the second film, I'm hoping they don't go with anything like the borg or Khan. I'm thinking that this time around there'll be encounters with Klingons, whether or not a Klingon is the main antagonist or not.
  12. This is a decent compromize.

I do have several suggestions. The colors for the minions are a bit wrong. I'd make their base color a darker green, and the thorn aspecs of the costume brown. I hope the Thorn Weilders are still black and red in the same manner.

Some of the amor, particularly the bracers on several of the mages look very bulky and not thorny enough to me. It's particularly evident on the Agony Mage's glove, maybe due to the angle, but I wonder if its the same for the Ruin and Death Mages as well. If so, I'd look to narrow down the large spike into a thorn.

I can't tell, but is that supossed to be the CoT symbol on the bottom teir mages' belts? Either way, the color is just off. I think it's suppossed to be purple, but its too bright and appears more pink in the picture.

Lastly, why does the Air Thorn Caster not have the same belt as the rest of the Casters?

Also, will it be possible to get the original CoT caster belt / sash as a player piece?

    Currencies

How about the fact that I practically have to make a spread sheet to keep track of what character has which currency, how much of which currency is needed to obtain what purchase, how much of which currency is needed to upgrade or downgrade to another currency, and then...

I do enough banking in real life, currency management in a game simply takes too much of my time. The result is that I've given up seeking out particular rewards for certain characters because it just involves too much time and I'd rather play. But if I'm playing and want those rewards, I need to be involved in particular functions necessary to earn said rewards, which means tracking becomes necessary.

    Just look at this list:

    Inf
    Tickets
    Merits
    Vanguard Merits
    Alignment Merits
    Astral Merits
    Empyrean Merits

And soon: Paragon Points, Tokens, and who knows what's to come after that.

Then there are the components, some of which are so necessary to build practically anything in the end game they might as well be considered currenty, like shards and ribbons.

At least since having my account active during the 7 year promotion period, vanguard merits are largely unnecessary except for purchasing components or temps. But for other people that may want those pieces, they have to earn those merits and track their progress.
  14. Interesting idea, but I somewhat doubt that the writers would bring us the exact same characters using what basically amounts to a lazy excuse to give fans the exact same characters again. Including villians such as Slythe (sp?).

I think its safer to say that this is a reboot and the backstory to the Thundercats and even that of third earth has been rewritten. Either all, most, or some of the sentient animals have always existed on this third earth, or all, most, or some came from off planet at some point in time.

Either way, it appears that they've all been here a long time.

I'm interested to see how the story unfolds, and why the Thundercats walled themselves off from the rest of the world and abandoned technology.

And if there's an entire planet to be had, why the lizards and cats are at war over resources on just one portion of land. The captive lizards said that the cats have all the resorces and they still to survive. Does that mean that other civilizations / city states don't exist, are really far away, or are in control by other powerful populations that the lizards couldn't contend with?

    My dvr is set...

I would also like to see Earth Blast, Kinetic Blast, Storm Blast and Storm Manipulation, but those would be outside the scale of Proliferation.
I really like most of this list. Earth Manipulation is darn near perfect imop.

Kinetic Manipulation would just need a few minor name changes and perhaps a reorder. First power could be Speed Siphon (self only version of Siphon Speed with lower values of course). Power Siphon right from the Kinetic Melee set works fine as a renamed Build Up. Transference would never probably happen though. I assume Repulsing blow is suppossed to be a nenamed version of Power Thrust, which isn't actually necessary, but I get it. I'd rather see a long base recharge click version of Force Bubble with a smaller radius and a relatively short duration (perhaps 10-15 seconds). Just for another interesting tool.

Martial Arts should be renamed to Martial Prowess. The power order strikes me rather strange. What most likely would be seen is: Thunder Kick, Caltrops, Crane Kick, Focus Chi, Cobra Stike, Quickness, Blinding Powder, Dragon's Tail, Eagle's Claw.
  16. So almost every primary there is

Seriously though, it depends on what you want to do and what level of skill you desire to apply.

Electric Melee can do decent ST damage, and still provide AoE with Lightening Rod (but it doesn't crit), a cone in Jacob's Ladder, and while mainly a good ST attack, Thunderstrike still does provide some AoE splash damage.

Claws can be built to have both decent ST and AoE within the same build. Or it could be built to be really good at ST, and provide some AoE, or built the otherway around.

But ideally, what you might want to go with particularly to pair with Will Power, is Katana. It provides plenty of ST damage, AoE with Lotus Drops, a cone with Flashing Steel, and if you take a moment to tap a movement key in order to line up mobs correctly, a small, narrow cone in Golden Dragonfly which is still a great ST attack.

Then there's Parry which doesn't exactly tend to help your ST attack string, but it's great for additional defense mitigation.
  17. The first thing I'd do is to change Placate.

Make it a buff that for the duration, any sucessful attack used proc's an aoe Placate around the target, and adds a critical chance of placing the stalker back into Hidden status. This way, placate could be used prior to a first strike by a stalker, or the same way now except it'd take a second click to utilize an attack afterward.

I'd also give a guaranteed critical for every power successfully used from Hidden Status (barring certain powers like Lightening Rod which is a pet). Then provide the chance to crit that stalkers have on top of that. So at rare times, Stalkers may have: damage of power+critical+critical.

Once both of those are in place, do some serious testing and see how Stalkers perform, if they still seem to not be able to survive well enough, then I'd consider a change to max HP.
  18. SDCC is a mad house full of people. It's wise to carry:

    Hand Sanitizer
Chlorox wipes to clean off any tables / chairs you may be lucky enough to score.
Plenty of water - stay hydrated.
Healthy snacks. All of the food and snacks available for purchase are your typical unhealthy fast food afair, full of sodium (which further dehydrates you), and it's over priced.

It's also difficult finding a place to sit and rest, so even ify ou find an empty hall its good to take a breather and relax for a bit away from the crowds.
I hope you manage to get a hotel room or have a friend / family to stay with. The ability to get rest, bath, and eat a healthy breakfast is invaluable during the con.

Preview night isn't exactly a must, but if you're ticket includes it, and you've never been, give it a go. Sunday is usually tear down day, so betwen Saturday night and Sunday morning, many sellers are clearing out and you might be able to score some huge discounts on comics. I scored some of my missing Sin City volumes for $5 a piece like that.

Saturday night can be a lot of fun with the costume dance party and the film shorts.

Choose what panels you want to go to with care. Space them out because you want to get to them early in order to get a seat, those panels tend to pack out really fast with lines longer than there is room inside. It doubles as a time to sit against a wall to relax, rehydrate, eat a healthy snack, go through your swag (of which there'll be a ton), go through purchased treasures, etc...

Oh, and shameless plug, but check out my friend's KO Comix table. He's a great guy and I really do enjoy his work.
  19. I'm of the opinion that the only way to make pvp more accessable for regular players is to first, make the difference of how powers operate between pve and pvp nearly identical.

People shouldn't have to learn a new set of rules and create a second (optimal) build in order to adequately participate in pvp.

One such example is: doing things like adding psi resistance to a ton of powers were the wrong way to go imop. I would've instead added psi resistance or defense (where applicable) to appropriate buff powers, for both pve and pvp.

    Heal decay is another one.

Taunt and its couzin, the guantlet effect should be way more useful than they currently are. Both should debuff range as they do, but they should also force the affected player to have their target locked onto the taunter. The taunt effect should be able to be broken by having the duration expire, breaking line of sight, by popping a break free, or by receiving certain buff powers that would have a taunt type magnitude resistance applied to them, Clear Mind is a great example of a power that could do this.

Travel suppression is a tricky beast. There are quite valid reasons why they exist for both pve and pvp. Is it a fun mechanic? Not really. Having seen people zipping / flying / jumping in and out of combat to get spike damage almost bordered on looking ridiculous to me and in no way looked to encapsulate what a good pvp experience should look like.

To the poster above that stated AE type of ability for players to design pvp maps is a great idea. But like the AE itself, is bound to be rife with a ton of horrible designs for players to sift through, people to be lured into and only find that it was a trap (insert Its a trap pic here). Not to mention, it can be time consuming designing a single floor map for a mission, placing objects etc..., I'd hate to see zone wide maps made designable for players. Sure there are people out there that would love that ability, but...just yikes.
  20. Quote:
A Brute at the damage cap would still do 1.7 times the damage of a Tanker at same, as opposed to 1.8 times
And how often is this an issue exactly, and for that matter, how long does it last when it occurs?

I'm fairly certain that if it ever does happen (big if) it's not very often, nor for a very long period of time. Then take that arbitrary value and compare it to the majority of the game and what you're asking for changes absolutely nothing. In other words, there's no reason for it. Which brings the argument back to why Arcana basically said the why not game doesn't work.
  21. I was just thinking the same thing...
  22. There are genius men alive now that even as they age, have seen their ideas developed in the '70s progress into wonderous technology they couldn't have imagined. And they have adapted to those changes and even continue to develop new technology.

The ideas of over population, world wide resource management, etc... is getting way ahead of where something like this is headed.

First, all of these umproven theories and techologies will need to be verified as valid. So as the article stated, we still have some time.

Second, such treatments will not be the mainstay of medical treatment. Insurance companies aren't going to begin adding Anti-age Therapy into their policies for a long while after (if it happens) the ability becomes possible. So only those that could shell out the cash for such continual treatments will age slowly.

This isn't a one time stop. You'll need to keep going back. It'll be a new type of business, and probably expensive for quite some time. Sure some people may be able to save up and afford the treatments and increase their life span, but not most.

Most people will still be living and dying as they do now for a long time to come.
  23. There's another reason why they'd want to reboot the original, quite frankly it's the best of the Crow stories. I've seen all the Crow movies, the t.v. show, read the other comic stories, and the other Crow novels.

Even though the t.v. show dealt with the original story, it went way off track, and tried to do too many things. It lost all connection from the original material besides using character names, setting, etc...

Now the reason why the original comic story is the best, is because the feeling that was poured into the work. The emotion is almost tangible. The original film used just several of the scenes from the book and those were some of the strongest scenes of the film.

The only other story that really worked for me, was Quoth the Crow. It was a good story, but I don't think it was good enough to turn into a film.
  24. I heard a breif, spoiler free review on the radio today. The reveiwer is a self proclaimed GL fan, new tons of trivia and history of the comic. While he thouroughly enjoyed it, he provided some interesting insight as to why he thinks the early reviews are so poor.

For him, the film is a fun, popcorn, summer action flick and not in by any means, high art. He clearly recognized quite a few problems with the film, as far with regards to some editing issues, story / plot issues, but said these things are quite common in many other typical summer action movies. He did state he thought the actors all did well in their roles.

The reason he believes the views are so poor is that other super hero themed movies have set up greater expectations for critics and perhaps even the audience at large. Movies like the last two Batman and Iron Man films in particular have raised the bar as to what a well done super hero film can look like. So when people see summer blockbuster super hero film announced, they tend to measure them against the bar of those other really good movies.

Over all he recommended people go see it for the fun of it, not to expect a great film, but one that is just fun like any other action flick.
  25. I have a dp / dark miasma corruptor, Triggermortis, that's steampunk themed.
