City of Heros: Whos the tank
(shamelessly inspired by the timeless Abbott and Costello baseball routine)
Recently heard on broadcast in Atlas Park
Noob: AE farm team forming, one spot left
54 month vet: Im might be interested, if ya got a decent team.
Noob: It should be good, we got a tank, defender, blaster, etc, you know the usual; they just have very peculiar names is all
54 month vet: Funny names?
Noob: You know names, hero names. Now, on my team we have Who's the tank, What's the defender, I Don't Know is the blaster--
54 month vet: That's what I want to find out. I want you to tell me the names of the dudes on your team.
Noob: I'm telling you. Who's the tank, What's the defender, I Don't Know is the blaster--
54 month vet: You know the fellows' names?
Noob: Yes.
54 month vet: Well, then who's the tank?
Noob: Yes.
54 month vet: I mean the fellow's name, the tank?
Noob: Who.
54 month vet: The dude that is tanking.
Noob: Who.
54 month vet: The meat shield?
Noob: Who is the tank.
54 month vet: Well, what are you askin' me for?
Noob: I'm not asking you--I'm telling you. Who is the tank.
54 month vet: I'm asking you--who's the tank?
Noob: That's the dudes name.
54 month vet: That's who's name?
Noob: Yes.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
54 month vet: When your tank gets XP and tickets, who gets the stuff?
Noob: Every bit of it. And why not, the dude is entitled to it.
54 month vet: Who is?
Noob: Yes.
54 month vet: So who gets it?
Noob: Why shouldn't he? Sometimes his wife comes down and collects it.
54 month vet: Who's wife?
Noob: Yes. After all, the dude earns it.
54 month vet: Who does?
Noob: Absolutely.
54 month vet: Well, all I'm trying to find out is what's the guy's name that is gonna tank for you?
Noob: Oh, no, no. What is the defender.
54 month vet: I'm not asking you who's the defender.
Noob: Who's the tank!
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
54 month vet: Gulp . . . do you have some other support dudes?
Noob: Oh, absolutely.
54 month vet: The controllers name?
Noob: Why.
54 month vet: I don't know, I just thought I'd ask.
Noob: Well, I just thought I'd tell you.
54 month vet: Then tell me who's the controller?
Noob: Who's the tank.
54 month vet: Stay out of the main dudes! The controllers name?
Noob: Why.
54 month vet: Because I want to know.
Noob: Oh, he's a scrapper.
54 month vet: Wait a minute. You got a Peace Bringer on this team?
Noob: Wouldn't this be a fine team without a PB?
54 month vet: Tell me the PBs name.
Noob: Tomorrow.
54 month vet: Why do I have to wait to hear the PBs name.
Noob: I just told you.
54 month vet: Tell me the PBs name!
Noob: Tommow.
54 month vet: AHHHGGGRRRR!
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
54 month vet: Let me try it this way, when the first group attacks--me being a team player--I want the tank to get the aggro, so I let who taunt?
Noob: Now, that's he first thing you've said right.
54 month vet: I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!
Noob: Don't get excited. Take it easy.
54 month vet: I pull a group to a corner, whoever it is grabs the aggro, so whos health starts to drop. Who runs over to what. What throws a buff to I don't know. I don't know knocks the boss back to tomorrow--a triple play.
Noob: Yeah, it could be.
54 month vet: A second group shows up and goes after your scrapper.
Noob: Because.
54 month vet: Why. . . I don't know. And I don't care.
Noob: What was that?
54 month vet: I said, I DON'T CARE!
Noob: Oh, that's our Warshade! -
A game in a game...
A simulation of a simulation.......
A virtual world in a virtual world.........
AE's reward should be the story, not XP.........
DOOM!
Honestly I don't really care what XP AE gives.
If you are having fun how you are playing that is the reward.

If you are one of the poor suckers that tries to use that disfunctional mess known as in-game email, then you can bother with the hassle of hitting the spam button a few hundred times a month, get-E-up, more power too you.
The rest of us that never use in-game email, relish the joy of all the RMT emails sent to the never opened purgatory of an unused system. I never get RMT tells, I never open my emails so I never get RMT emails, it really is a rather beautiful solution to the annoyance of the RMTers.
Yes the little red light on the email button is annoying, but after of few days of never opening emails, you won't even see it anymore. More annoying are the, "you have 78 new emails" tells I get every zoning; but I am practicing not seeing those too. -
Have a duo WS/PB (both human only) team in the mid 30s, and they are lots of fun. They have a good variety of powers to handle most every situation, and they just look so COOL heroing!
I have a WS duo'd with a Kin/Electric Defender; that team is in the 40s now is and is approaching spectacular. The Kin powers make the WS seem like he is massively super charged! They are an absolute wrecking crew, the more baddies the better!
If I had to pick just one, I'd pick the mixed team verses the all Kheldian team, but you really can't lose either way since both are fun. -
54 month vet. here. I agree it is odd that the AE system makes it easy and rewarding to avoid the majority of the game. I have to wonder if the Dev's are data mining the actual numbers of players that use the game content verses stay in the Atlas AE always; or only venture out to RV once they have their instant 50.
If there is a large percentage of players doing AE only, or even a majority, is there a payback in developing new game content?
The one huge improvement with how AE is used is the ending of the filling, PLing tells; and thank you thank you no more bombarding of a level 46 toon to be a bridge for a PL team.
The game doesn't seem all that different to me honestly. I still use the game how it is fun for me, thousands of other subscribers are doing the same. I see new content like Issue 15/16, and the Rogue expansion pack on the horizon. As odd as I find the AE rewards system to be, I see a game that is healthy and improving. -
Level 1-5 Miss Liberty, since the TO store is handy and I start there in AP. The exception being a new Warshade toon does these levels in Galaxy.
Level 6-49 I almost always use BaB in Kings Row, since the next stop is a WentWorth stop to fill the new slots. Plus there is a store right there to sell the extras, and a base entrance to build stuff. No other place in the game has all the stuff you need to equip so closely bundled. Once in a blue moon if I am in Talos at a ding I will just use Luminary since the WW, store, base distances are fairly convinent too.
At level 50 it is back to Miss Liberty. Being under the statue where it all began seem most heroic and appropriate. -
I play human only WSs and PBs.
WSs need defeated baddies to really shine; your pets, and some of the self regen and recovery powers are dependent on defeated baddies. If you are battling masses of Lts and minions there is nothing like a WS; they are the lawnmower and the baddies are the grass. The one drawback is a solo human WS has more trouble with an EB in a mission. Often the pets have faded and your end and health are running low, and with no defeated baddies nearby, you can have . . . difficulties.
A human PB is much more straight forward. You have some of the blasting and melee abilities of real blasters, but have many of the survivability tools of a scrapper; ie various defences, resistances, and self heals. And none of your abilities are dependent on defeated baddies, so Bosses and EB's are less of an issue. But I don't think a PB can handle large numbers of minions and Lts anywhere near as well as a WS.
Of course there are all the issues with Voids, cysts, Tri-Form build, Dual-form build, lack of human form mez resistance, teaming vs soloing, that make Kheldians complex and interesting. But those discussions kind of mask the simplist and most direct comparision of WS vs PB that I could think of. -
I got fed up again logging in a toon and seeing 18 emails in the in basket.
In disgust I sent in a petition. I got the usual canned use the spam button reply.
I replied to the reply. . . a bit more. . .vigorously. I got a supervisor reply saying the developers are working on new methods to handle RMT emailers. So the check is in the mail; no details on what the new methods are or a timeframe for deployment.
In the mean time, when you see those little red lettters saying you have a new email, just remember red means email is broken and don't bother opening them. -
It's offical, the RMT email spam is back to annoying levels. Every toon gets anywhere from 4 to 30 emails at log in. The spammer button worked ok for a bit, but that ship has sailed.
The little red letters on my email button now tell me the email system is broken and to not open emails.
Hopefully at some point the Dev's will provide a player select email filter option like receive from SG only, and then the email system will work. It would even be nice if I got an advisory that I had an SG email by the letters on the button turning green. Green means go, green means the system works, green means bother opening the email.
Right now red means the system is BROKEN! -
Is this post like forum farming thread farming?

If fair is defined as equal opportunity, then we get minor changes to the MA badge system to level the opportunity playing field.
If fair is defined as equal outcome, they we get more significant changes to the MA badge system.
This changes seems to indicate the Dev's are more inclined to view fair as equal outcomes for all players. -
I guess I am . . .okay . . . I know I am weird; but I LIKE the travel in this game. We get to FLY, or the other lesser travel powers, that is one of the best parts of the whole game to me!
Now don't get me wrong, I dislike the silly FedEx talk to missions as much as everyone; but the general travelling, flying as a super hero to the rescue, that never gets old to me.
The thing I miss the most if I stand around too long in an AE building is the sense of wonder at being able to FLY. So the simple thing for me is to walk out the upper floor doors . . . step to the edge . . . and it's UP UP and.... SEE YA! -
dbxp weekends are a known exploit and are to be nerfed to 1.37 xp weekends.
Just kidding.

With the current MA reward system there are massive rewards for NOT doing Developer content.
I can skip contacts, zoning, and travel. If I can skip travelling I can skip getting a travel power.
I can create a toon, run to the Atlas Park AE building, be on a team in two minutes, and be at level 50 within hours or at most a couple of days. The only time I leave the building is to run to Miss Liberty to slap on a few more powers, then a run to WW to slap on a few IO's, then I jog back to AE and repeat.
With the current reward system there is little incentive to use 95% of the game.
It seems to me that the purpose of MA was to see stories and maps and baddies you can't see in the rest of the game; the unending fresh content is reason enough to go to WW. You don't need any other reward then to play the unexpected!
Soooo . . . if I were King, Architect Entertainment would be just that, entertainment for a hero. I would go in, for example as a level 36 blaster, team up, play some cool player made content, have a ball; but when I left the AE building I would still be a level 36 blaster. Yes, I am suggesting no XP or any other main game related currancy would cross transfer to the main game from doing MA content.
How else do you make the main game relevant?
This is not a doom post by the way, the game is not collapsing or any of that nonsense. MA makes the game stronger and better clearly.
I am just looking at the long term incentives to use Dev content. -
I use to petition customer service too, and they refered me to the forums. It is incredibly frustrating to have the company that can fix problems and take action, refer you to these forums where no real fix or action takes place. Very poor customer service if you ask me.
One little thing you can do is delete emails from "empty" names, those accounts are already by by, and just spam button the emails that have a name. At least you slow down the rate of filling your ignore list.
Lastly, since customer service TELLS us to post here, let's ask AGAIN for an email filter so we can control who we receive emails from. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Ok, the forum moderators can now be helpful and lock this redunant post since it violates forum rules. That seems like great customer service help too doesn't it.
