That lasts only until you actually run into someone that DOES have that kind of build. Against them you will get owned every time, unless you're just like 3 times the player they are.

I play with SO's, but admittedly, it's mostly melee toons these days. Based on my experience (and I've PvP'd with SO's more than any player in CoH history most likely), I would have to agree with mac and barrier and say that no, a new player cannot possibly do well with just SO's. I can on SOME toons, because I've PvP'd more in zones than any player in CoH. But the OP is about new players.

I don't bother with my squishies anymore, because just like was mentioned, I go in the zone, one shark takes me to 30% HP, then a couple tier 1 attacks finish me off. Or I get kb'd/mezzed and die before ever getting a chance to take a single action. That's just how the game works.

Keep in mind, accolading toons is an extreme timesink and not something casual players do. It's not needed in PvE in any way, after all. So you can't just say "you don't need IO's, just accolades". In many cases, it's actually easier to make the money for IO's than it is to get certain accolades.

Point is...sure, a new player can "do well" in zones with SO's. Right until the moment where someone that isn't horrible at the game shows up on the other side and completely owns the new player because the game is specifically designed for that to happen.

Agreed. Just last night I had to prove it to myself again...or maybe 2 nights ago. Had to run from a dom that did not miss a single attack on me....and then quit in disgust after being hit with 3 attacks in a row from 3 different stalkers...while I was in elude. Literally my entire secondary on that toon is Aid Self and the temp phase from WB.

I don't believe the devs ever said that tp droning is a valid tactic (they also never denied it though)....but they did very clearly say that tp'ing someone into a spawn of NPC's to get kills is a valid tactic. In fact, valid isn't the word they used. They made it sound like it's not only valid, but actually a great idea and something they themselves would do.

And considering getting killed by NPC's gives debt while being droned doesn't (a case of something negative vs nothing negative), it's pretty safe to assume they are ok with that too.

If that's not enough proof for you, consider the fact that people have complained about it for YEARS. Literally 100% complaints and petitions about it have been ignored. 100%. So yes, they consider droning a valid tactic.

Also, server comparisons are done on averages. There is absolutely no doubt that the average Freedom player is significantly better than an average virtue player. It's a commonly accepted fact.

It's become even more true recently, after ALL people that actually care about PvP moved to Freedom. The only exceptions are people like you that simply can't hang on Freedom...so you move to a worse server, because there you can feel like a great PvP'er and talk to people on forums like you're "teaching" them something.

The point of the idea is that GOOD players will be able to 2 shot people who suck. People who are good will never be 2 shotted, because they won't be standing still. How can you possibly think that is bad?
