Rad/Psi defender build

I got a rad/psi nearly to 50 over the 2XP weekend and am having some trouble cooking up a PvP build for him. I'll be using him in the arena the majority of the time. I'm having trouble deciding between Concealment and Leadership, and am uncertain how to slot some of the rad powers (EF and LR, for example). Would anyone mind providing some tips, or possibly posting some example builds? Purples aren't out of the question, but I probably won't be buying any PvP IOs any time soon...

i'm assuming you're expecting use it team arena and not duels. since duels posti13 are dumb.

get both leadership and phase. drop stamina.

Yeah I'll definitely be doing team arena. I never thought about dropping fitness, interesting idea. I'll have to play with that in Mids, thanks.

Here's my first stab at a build. Keep in mind I've not spent much time in PvP since i12, so I could be completely off base here. Be gentle I mainly went for HP/Recovery bonuses and some recharge. I'm also sitting at 40.5 KB protection with Acro running. Tear it apart if needed.

Yep, I lol'd when I landed at 40.5. I'm trying to find a spot for one more IO, I may just have to slot another generic KB IO in Acro.

Also, would you recommend taking the shield instead of FoN from Power Mastery?

Yes. was going to mention that actually. Temp invul will give about as much resist as you can have with the global pvp buffs. + or - 5% FoN will get you about the same... but only for 2 mins and has a horrible end crash...

Consider slotting a full steadfast in there as well. you'll get more HP and just slightly less recovery
if you do that just adjust your titanium's so you get full benefit of the resists at minimal end usage.

FoN serves zero purpose other than end recovery.

Alright, here's an adjusted build. Looking at my end usage vs. recovery, I also decided I would be more comfortable with Fitness in the build. Plus then I could always 1v1 or zone if the mood struck. Just under 43 points of KB protection, but less global damage global recharge.

well. got to say your first build was better I think. it really just needed some fine tuning. this one needs more work I think.

I have to say I didn't like the idea of a Staminaless build but it does work pretty well in arena. and if you can get used to it it works fine in zone.

If you really wanted to zone with stam. I'd say it would be better to drop the stealth pool over leadership. that +perc helps keep your toggles on longer if something tries to run. You can always pick up a temp phase some where...

Its not so bad in arena either assuming your emp is pretty decent. if you have one on your team anyway.

Yeah the second build suffered in several areas (damage, recharge, HP, regen, recovery) just to add Fitness. I will probably have to build both on test and experiment to see how I *really* like the build with/without Fitness. Looking at numbers is one thing but doesn't always tell me how the build will actually play.

I tweaked the first build a bit and think I might be getting closer. It now has 44 points of KB protection. Also with SJ, SS, Tactics, Stealth, Acro, and the epic shield running it uses 1.5 end/sec while recovering 2.3/sec. Not great but workable especially with an Emp on the team. Less global damage than the first build but more HP, only ~3% less recharge. I decided I'd rather slot Rad Infection with 4 Lady Grey and 2 DWD for the Regen, instead of the reverse for more Recharge. It also doesn't have the Apoc set at all, which would help a few things if I were to slot it.

Does anyone else have input or perhaps have a build they'd like to share? This toon hit 50 last night so I'm starting on accolades and IO shopping.

Roll a rad/son... will be alot easier to build :P

I do have some feedback on your build though. Invest in Apocs and split them. With accolades that current build will be sitting at 1500 HP. If not and you stick with the 11 HP buff I suggest switching to the Ruins over the Decimations. Same HP bonus, alot cheaper because Ruins dont have a recharge bonus later in its set.

Also work on your actual slotting of sets a little. If you pick different Devastations you will get better slotting vs the ones you currently have in the build - same set bonuses, better overall Acc/Dam/Rech.

The extra slot in Phase is sorta a waste, unless your planning to die alot. If you take that slot and put it in Acro and do a gen KB IO you can slot TK blast for Dam and other useful set bonuses (think HP and maybe some much needed recov).

Consider flipping the Extreme Measures in the snipe for a Executioners Contract Dam/Int. Damage would be pretty much the same, 20 less ft. on the snipe, but your interupt time will be 1.6 vs 1.75.

Consider flipping your movement sets so that SJ will have the stealth set and SS will have the common run set. No change in bonuses, but you will run faster and since 80% of your time in team arena will be evading and you evade faster running on the ground (92 run cap vs jump's 80 something?) it might be something you want to consider. Also slot a gen run IO in sprint to cap your run speed... toggle it on when evading and off for spikes and you should be fine.

I looked at this in Mids, even with 3 KB IOs in Acro I'd only get up to 40.5 points of KB protection without the Kinetic Crash set.

Unless you have made other changes besides your last posted build you currently have 44 KB protection. Removing the slot from phase and adding it to acro and putting a gen KB IO in it will put you at 45.53. Removing the KK set will put you at 42.53.

Hey RaKiv, I was curious to see how your build turned out for you in game? My main is a rad/psi defender and I've been experimenting, respeccing, re-respeccing, and then experimenting some more on her build since IO's came out.

My build so far is a pvp/pve main support hybrid, however she excels more on the pve end of the spectrum. I would do just fine in pvp, but I didn't want to sacrifice too much just to get the 41+ KB protect. So she's a little short on that end.

I know you mentioned you will mainly be using your rad/psi for arena battles and the like, but how is it faring in pve?
