Quote:Presumably you'd still have to log in on at least one character during the anniversary event, so not quite.
Obviously there's a bit of a snag when it comes to people who have had older anniversary badges but then deleted those characters.
I guess what I'm saying is that, yeah, letting people who were in no way, shape, or form actually around for the anniversary events get the badges would be defeating their entire purpose.
Hmm...if the requirement to get the badges is that you have had to log in during that time with one of your characters who may/may not still be around...
I dunno, I always kinda figured the purpose of anniversary badges was to show basically how long your character has been in existence (not to be confused with how long you yourself have been playing). Obviously, thats not neccessarily the case--and it could be I'm the only one who thinks that way. And yes, I know they're basically fluff badges that go "Hey, we made it to year X!" But I consider them less fluff than winter/halloween/valentine badges, which are the essentiallly same every year.
All that said, I would love it on my badger, who is a Willpower toon--thus missing the first couple anniversary badges. -
Quote:/Agreed. I highly doubt rikti would make a good canidate for space arcs. Get your Omega clearance and come back here.I have some lore that would like to speak to you... run (and read) the RWZ arc, or - I believe it's Organ Grinders from Dr. Sheridan in Brickstown. Or visit the wiki.
Also, a thought occured to me--I like the idea of zero G environments, but what would you do for powers like, say, Hot Feet (where you need to be on the ground to activate the power)? -
-
Quote:I won't lie to you--I would love that on my newer characters. But doesn't that defeat the purpose of anniversary badges?Since the 6th Anniversary of the game have been announced with all the details, I think it would be nice if they also add some kind of option that let us craft older anniversary badges. Similar in concept of the winter event were you can craft older badges that are no longer available. This will also let new people get the 5th Column Gladiator that was awarded if you got the first two anniversary badges.

Quote:I felt the same way...until I softcapped my SL defense.I realize you're talking about villainous builds largely, here, but I take issue with the idea of kicking someone who ignores their secondary. I play fire/fire blasters quite a bit, and in the process I intentionally ignore every single power in the secondary set that forces me to close to within melee range.
I'm a blaster. My hit points suck. I have no real defenses (well, maybe a paltry fire shield). Some folks may love the idea of wading into battle and being pounded on, but as a soloist, I don't. I belong in the air, raining down death and destruction from a safe distance. Bullets hurt a hell of a lot less than fists, in my experience.
But, if I took Fire Sword, Fire Sword Circle, Combustion, Blazing Aura, Consume, Burn, and Hot Feet, I'd have to be within melee range for them to be effective. That's not where I want to be. On a team, where healers and buffers can mitigate the damage, it's a different story. On my own, I'm just asking for a face plant.
So the only powers I take from that set are Ring of Fire and Build Up. They fit the concept. I may take others, but only if I have to because nothing else is available. And if I take them, it's exceedingly rare that I use them.
Would you kick me from your team because of that?
Quote:Well one thing to keep in mind is the difference between theory and practice. In theory it's a poor build, if you want to avoid melee then /Fire is a poor secondary for a Blaster and I'd rather have a Blaster who uses their secondary.
In practice I am a lazy, lazy man when it comes to forming teams. I pretty much take whomever wants to join and don't bother to check powersets. Unless you specifically told me that you weren't using your secondary the odds of me noticing are pretty low. Even if I noticed I'd probably just sigh and ignore it. I don't like Blasters who ignore their secondary but they are probably the AT where doing so has the least impact on team play. In practice the only ATs were I'm likely to notice are Defenders who don't attack and petless masterminds (ok, I might notice a Tank who repeatedly faceplants).
So no, I wouldn't kick you but if I got a tell saying "Hi, I'm a Fire/Fire Blaster with only ring of fire and build up from my secondary" and one saying "Hi, I'm a Fire/fire blapper" I'll take the blapper thank you.
Even with other characters who ignore half their powers my problem isn't so much that they are ignoring their power it's that they are so damn smug about it. Admittedly it's a small sample size and they were all Empathy Defenders but they all insisted that their build was the one true way to build an Empathy Defender.
While everyone is talking about what they would boot for--For me, it's 3 things, 2 of which I would try a warning first.
1. The AFK'er. The guy that either sits there, or floats along behind team, doing nothing. Conviently enough, usually coming back from afk's to get to next mission and afk again.
2. The bad player. The guy that harrasses or makes things difficult for other players on the team.
3. The 'This is a tf, jerk' player. Everyone has had this at least once...the guy that decides he has to go after the first mission in the 2+ hour long tf, saying "Gotta go, sorry," and logging without quitting the team--only to SOMEHOW come back just in time for the last mission. I will kick this player as soon as I see him heading towards the mission--no remorse. He does not deserve the badge. -
Quote:Hello, I've heard that Fire/Kins are the most powerful thing in the game, so I'd like someone to whip up a build for me here, pronto. I have only the vaguest notion of what I actually would like to do with the character, so don't ask me for any more specifics about my plans. I just know that Fire/Kins rock! So make me one that rocks!
I also suffer from palsy, so it's hard for me to move my mouse and scroll down further on this page to open the 17 other Fire/Kin build threads there, so make me a new one that I can see here on the top of the page.
I also suffer from developmental disabilities, so operating the 'Search' functions are also beyond my capabilities - so once again, I want all the key information right here, in the next 10 minutes, in this thread.
And please, whatever you do, don't tell me to play my character for a while and figure out for myself some of my needs. Actually playing my character is a bit challenging and distasteful - I would prefer to actually just be level 50 racking up billions of influence, and this is what I've heard is the fastest way to do that. That way I can cut down on my time actually playing the game - after all, I'm a very busy person.
In fact, I pay a Chinese gold farmer $3 an hour to sleep with my wife - this way I can keep her needs satisfied with little financial outlay and no precious time spent on my part. Efficiency and all. Thanks in advance for your replies!
Kudos on the awesome post, but the last part was a bit much, don't you think? -
Quote:Stalkers aren't scrappers, they keep a few toggles active, and AS enemies. Not exactly an end heavy playstyle.my willpower stalker is pushing 35. I took swift & hurdle but not Stamina- he doesn't need it. He's a concept character I'm playing without recourse to set IOs, he's using generics only, and one -end in his main attacks keeps him rolling along.
In the past I've also played a DM/Fire brute and an emp/elec defender that didn't take stamina. I have a fire/axe tank who was able to put it off for a good while via canny use of set IOs with +rec bonuses.
As Cat noted, making stamina inherent would trivialize the entire structure of endurance and make quite a few powers useless. They might as well just chuck the whole idea out the window.
I wouldn't hold my breath on that happening.
DM/Fire has two end recovery powers, one on each set.
Defenders get vigilance, being an empath on top of that, you'll have RA.
Making it inherent *wouldn't* ruin the system. I dunno about you guys, but stamina isn't anywhere near the perma solution to end problems that some seem to make it sound like. I still run out of endurance. There are many AT's that have end heavy toggles, and only careful playing and smart slotting will guard against end crashing, even with stamina 3 slotted.
Sure, if you want to spit in the face of IO sets, ignore all the set bonuses and 3 slot end reductions, you're more than free to. Seems kinda silly though, with all the impressive things you can do with the bonuses (Perma PA comes to mind). -
Quote:[Quick Recovery] would like to have a word with you and your only VEATs.
Physical perfection as well. In fact in each AT there are combination that provide significant end recovery and/or discounts without dipping into Stamina.
Well, I don't know...I think I'm going to have to agree with Einsam. While it is certainly *possible* to go without stamina on the builds you are referring to (regen/willpower), the sad truth is most players pick up stamina in conjunction with QR anyways. Why? Because that gives them the ability to not only run end heavy powers like Focused Accuracy permanently, but so they don't have to ever really worry about their blue bar (unless they're on a Malta mission). I know most of my characters couldn't survive without stamina, and Physical perfection isn't enough by itself.
In fact, I've been saying for years that they may as well make stamina an inherent--the only real purpose it seems to have is to send up a flag to an experienced players eyes that the post-20 player that just joined their team (and doesn't have the fitness pool) is a noob/newbie, and should be watched carefully. -
Quote:Yeah, you said it already, and as the game is several years old at this point, I can believe it. I was simply taking the question at face value to explain the reasoning behind the choice.Vertical travel with SS isn't possible with the current game engine, as per a dev post I'm too lazy to find. (At least I'm honest about it)
I wasn't making it up, they really can't do it. It has something to do with the way collision detection works in this game. -
Oh yes, I'll take defense/resist/fear/heal purples. While fear isn't widely used, I want you to remember one thing. Spooky from the illusionist set.

Quote:I like the Alias idea, but I don't know how they could implement it. And I don't see very many people going for the "Hey, can you please nerf me to level 1?!" option. Now, if you kept your name/badges/money, and could repick your primary/secondary? Yes. Short of that, have a friend make a level 1, switch over to GR and exemp. Here are 2 ideas I thought they would work well with the whole GR concept.
First: Dual Names
It's highly likely that, when honorable hero, Cpt. Justice, goes Rogue, he doesn't go by his hero name, but adopts an alias, like Evil Evilness. So, what if we could select a secondary name for our toons? Basically, your original name appears when in Paragon City(heroes)/Rogue Islands(villains), your alias when you switch to the other side. When in Praetoria, you select which one to appear.
Second: Character Reset Tool
I know I can just reroll my toons, but I would like to be able to play GR content, without losing all my progress (badges, unlocked costume pieces). So, I would like to have an option to reset my toon to lv1. You get to keep: holiday/event Badges, Unlocked Costume pices, costume change emotes, super group status, prestige, but you lose: contacts and missions, enhancements, all other badges, merits, salvage, insp, influence. -

Quote:The other reason, as I recall, being technical limitations - the engine had problems flying at faster than our max speed.
Teleport to map location - The maps are 2d. The ground is 3d. That's the biggest issue there.
Superspeed - Why get rid of stealth - especially when it's one of the reasons people take it?
Ah, I did not hear that about fly. If thats true...well, I suppose we can do without making it faster. A shame.
Yeah, I know it would be tough, if not impossible to do, due to height issues. In missions...well no, missions aren't perfectly level either. Hmm...I'll think about that problem. Perhaps if there was a program that could autodetect what level the ground was at, and teleport you just above it? And then for vertical teleports, you'd have to do that manually, sans-map.
If superspeed kept it's stealth, *and* could travel vertically via wall run? It would have a pretty big advantage over other travels. I figure if we lose that, people still have the +stealth IO and can do that. Also, I liked the idea of casting a form of placate over your character once you hit max speed (and stayed within 20% of max speed). I think it makes sense for enemies not to be able to see you while you're flashing by, but it makes little sense indeed for you to be standing still in front of them and them not seeing you just because you have the power active. -
Quote:Why?
I don't see anything here that negates the "need" for travel suppression.
Well, ignoring my distaste for TS in the first place...the build up in speed for these new travel power changes would be in place of it. Imagine how annoying it would be, to be stuck running at average (sprint) speed for several seconds, and only *then* start to build up your speed?
With these changes, as soon as you start moving, it's a gradual speed up, allows for realism and, hopefully, a bit faster to get to max speed than waiting for TS to release you from it's icy grasp. -
Ah...you have a good point about fly...perhaps if the endurance consumption was increased? The idea for increasing the max speed was to offset the build up in speed--wouldn't neccessarily have to increase it by a lot.
I kinda figured that about the wall run, but a guy can dream, am I right? ;-)
Its just too lateral a travel power for me to ever take, as it is now.
I neglected to mention on the first post, but travel surpression would HAVE to be done away with for these changes. -
Me and a friend were talking about how to make certain travels better and/or more realistic the other night, and I wanted to post some of these ideas to see what ya'll thought.
Super Jump: Have the inital leap off the ground and the post apex part of jump have greater acceleration, and when nearing the top of jump it goes a llittle slower. And perhaps a more lateral movement, sacrificing a little of the height so it's more of a leap than a jump.
Teleportation: Can also click on map to move around, however the farther away you teleport, the more endurance you lose. Starting base (for max distance--max being 1 mile) could be around 50 endurance, with end reductions lowering that by 20/10/5.
Superspeed: Get rid of stealth. Have it take a couple seconds to get to max speed, and be able to wall run at a slightly slower speed after you build up some initial speed. (We threw around a couple other ideas, such as having a placate effect when you hit max speed, and what not.)
Fly: Couple seconds to get to max fly speed, with max speed being faster than it is now.
Obviously, these changes would take a lot of programming, and possibly not feasible, but I'd like to know what you guys think. Any other suggestions, or new travel power ideas I'd love to hear. -
Quote:No, *I* said you couldn't punt a kitten because you died. Granted, you were the 3rd to die, but still.Well I did manage to get another Master Of going and.......
a kitten is going to get punted.
Now I did die as well in this run, but was not the first. The team said because I died, it made the punting null and void.
I am now taking votes on this.
Another run will be attempted tomorrow around noon and if possible in the evening, and anytime in between.
Honestly, there was so many deaths, I think Reichsman wants me to punt a kitten. -
Proud member of team 53 (Delacroix)--don't forget, Impyre, you still owe my scrapper a successful run! ;D

Quote:Of course you can with EotM, but that accolade isn't exactly something everyone has, much less on every toon. And sure, it wouldn't help stoners too much, but I know WP (who are really only high in smash/lethal/psi) and Invuln (smash/lethal) would love to have some more energy resist. (I use this as an example--other builds have weaknesses that such a power could help). Of course, you are completely right on the inspiration part, though. You can get the same effects already from the Eye of the Magus accolade, and medium and large orange inspirations come close. I also don't think it would benefit tanks who were at or near the resistance cap on their own.
That said, no. it's not neccessary at all. I like the vigilance idea, but since a tanks (typical) job is just to keep aggro (dishing out damage is a secondary goal), they really shouldn't be losing endurance that badly anyways. -
Very nice walkthrough, and a respectable build you got going there. Just one question, though...no Aegis? Not even the +psi resist?
-
Or maybe if the click power shot up resistance like 30% for a minute?
That would be nice. -
Quote:Yeah, I can definately see people whining about it. Like I said, if the opponent eats em up, I'll do the same. But thats after I see how I measure up without them.If you don't wanna use inspirations that's cool but most with your same opinion will either rage out in broadcast or come to the forums and rage cause others use what's available to them and then we end up with I13. Hopefully you can see where we are coming from.
-
I appreciate your response, Xanatos.
I understand where you (and all you other people) are coming from on the inspiration thing. I do. Like I said, it's a personal thing. I don't play to win (Le gasp, heresy!), I actually play just to have fun. Unfortunately, it seems I'm one of the few that does. Sure, it's fun to win. Duh. But I like to test my build to see how good it is against other people by NOT using break frees/lucks/etc. To ya'll, Its a valid tactic, and I see where you're coming from. To me, however, it's a crutch. In my eyes, if you have to rely on inspirations to beat your opponent, you haven't made your build good enough. Obviously, if your opponent is gobbling them up, it would then give the green light for me to do the same. I hope you can at least see where I'm coming with this.I don't "ask" anyone to change how they play, I just play the way I prefer to. Throughout your post you said I want people to play without inspirations. I don't! Thats why I said it's a personal preferance of MINE. You can do things your way, and I'll do them mine.
Perhaps you chose a wrong example by talking about regen scrappers. I can't stand them, but I think I got the gist of what you were trying to say about the whole natural immunity. Yes, scrappers/tanks get mezz protection toggles. It gives them a natural defense against it. I understand how that is unfair to other ATs in pvp, and is probably why mostly scrappers/tanks end up in the zone. There are lots of different strategies for the other ATs to do, and as I've said a couple times already, the devs, with their damn knee jerk reaction to complaints, invalidated the ability of people that rely on mezzes to win. Somewhere along the line of this thread, either someone took my words out of context, or I let some bad experiences with Perma dom gankers get to me, but I don't (or didn't, I suppose) have that much of a problem with them.
I don't take anything anyone says about me personally here, if only because most of the negative comments are (I hope) made by 12-20 year olds that don't have any online manners. I really doubt I "represent" anything (unless you paint a bullseye on me) because, to be frank, I don't pvp enough to care. I've never complained to anyone that any aspects of pvp was unfair/unbalanced, because I simply don't care enough. -
It's not Bruce Lee, genius. Try looking at it. I know, it's uncomfortable pulling your head out of your butt. You see those things the figure is holding? They're called swords.
I don't lose any more than I win. You just want to think that to feel that old thing called self gratification.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, Lucky. I respect yours. I'm not making up rules, I'm just playing as I prefer. I believe I'm entitled to do so. I know lots of people check their honor/morality at the door when they can be anonymous. I don't. -
Oh look, you all gave me negative karma. Way to go. Very mature little trollers.
