2 Ideas for GR: Dual Names(Alias) and Character Reset tool

Here are 2 ideas I thought they would work well with the whole GR concept.
First: Dual Names
It's highly likely that, when honorable hero, Cpt. Justice, goes Rogue, he doesn't go by his hero name, but adopts an alias, like Evil Evilness. So, what if we could select a secondary name for our toons? Basically, your original name appears when in Paragon City(heroes)/Rogue Islands(villains), your alias when you switch to the other side. When in Praetoria, you select which one to appear.

Second: Character Reset Tool
I know I can just reroll my toons, but I would like to be able to play GR content, without losing all my progress (badges, unlocked costume pieces). So, I would like to have an option to reset my toon to lv1. You get to keep: holiday/event Badges, Unlocked Costume pices, costume change emotes, super group status, prestige, but you lose: contacts and missions, enhancements, all other badges, merits, salvage, insp, influence.

I like the Alias idea, but I don't know how they could implement it. And I don't see very many people going for the "Hey, can you please nerf me to level 1?!" option. Now, if you kept your name/badges/money, and could repick your primary/secondary? Yes. Short of that, have a friend make a level 1, switch over to GR and exemp.

Idea 1: Yea!
Idea 2: Nay!

to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

You don't search the forums much I take it...

This is oft requested and sorry but an alias option has already been suggested:

Quote:
1. Add a Secret ID option.

Do this by adding a 'AKA:' text box with a drop box 'Off', 'On', 'Costume slot 0' to '4' to your characters ID page, this would allow you to select a Secret ID for a character and turn it off, on or automatically select it using an existing costume slot (/CC 1)

Implementation, This:

Title : The Amazing
Name : Spiderflan
SG : Spiderflan and friends

Would become: (In Secret ID/AKA mode.)

Name : Spiderflan
Secret ID/AKA : Peter Barker
SG : Spiderflan and friends

Therefore using the existing in game name display system and without the requirement for new costume slots.

9. Secret ID.

I have previously suggested an easier way to do a secret/hidden id effect...
Basically it's a text entry section and checkbox/costume selection number in the players ID allowing for their disguise name, hidden status and optional costume slot selection.

This would then display their hidden/secret ID name in place of their normal information where their name is displayed ingame.

Examples ignoring Badge selected:

Normal:
The Legendary
Coolio Wolfus
Coolio's Crusaders

Hidden:
Coolio Wolfus
Anon Amos
Coolio's Crusaders

This shouldn't affect the /t , or other commands as it would only be a display change.

Title changes from their Title to the characters official Name.
Name changes to become the secret ID name.
Supergroup would still be shown as now.

Additionally the players Badge Title could get hidden when using the secret ID.

Optional suggestion:
However rather than the chat text displaying '<Name>:' it could show '<Hidden/secret ID Name> (<Name>):'.
In the example above 'Coolio Wolfus:' would become 'Anon Amos (Coolio Wolfus):'.
Note that the tell information is still shown inside the () as the official characters name.
Both mine and there are plenty of similar since...

Nuff Said...
Coolio Wolfus leader of Coolios Crusaders on Union.
Tekna Logik leader of Teknas Tormentors on Defiant.
AE arc 402506, 'The Rise and Demise or Otherwise of Tekna Logik...'.

Man, if only they would implement some way to temporarily de-level your character so you could experience content that you missed or wasn't available when you were at the appropriate level. Perhaps they could even give you a temporary power that would transport you to a special room with some sort of crystal that allowed you to access these missions?

Obviously we can't be sure until more is announced about it, but it would be pretty silly to add a bunch of new content and not have it available via Ouroboros. And even if it's not, if worse comes to worst, you can use Issue 16's super-sidekicking feature to run low-level content on your high-level character with a team of friends.

Main Hero: Chad Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1396 Badges
Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges
Mission Architect arcs: Doctor Brainstorm's An Experiment Gone Awry, Arc ID 2093

I like Idea 1, but it wont happen cuz to many names would get taken up by this.

Idea 2, Im gonna have to be against this, simply because i wouldnt want to lose all my inf and IOs. I would just keep them in that character and reroll the same guy.

Except that the op was asking for a secret identity name... he was asking for another superhero name for when a character turns good/evil. For example, Captain Good becomes known as Captain Evil when he goes rogue, but can return to being Captain Good if he mends his ways. Similar mechanic, I suppose, but for a different purpose, and used in a different manner (going rogue/vigilante versus civilian outfit).

Couldn't you mail your stuff to yourself and then reset and not loose anything?

Actually, yes. That was the point anyway. You only lose slotted enhancements/IOs and most badges.

However, while too complex, it could alternatively implemented like that: The system remembers your level when resetting your character. When you reach that level again, a pop-up shows asking whether you want to restore all IOs/Enh slotted before reset. If you click yes, you go to the final screen of respec (all enh in a tray, all powerslots empty). You get to slot your powers with enh acquired both before and after the reset. Just like respec, all enh left unslotted are sold for inf.

The point of the whole thing is to allow players to restart their characters as praetorians, choose resistance or loyalists and experience the new content. Even, if the same content is added as flashback missions, the whole playing experience would be severely gimped.

I'll tell you why, you're name suggestion will just eat into more names that people will want.

2nd, there's already a way for them to change the name, it's called pay 10 dollars and rename the toon. I'd suggest staying on one side of the fence for awhile to make it worth the 10 dollars.

In Marvel and DC, the main two super hero universes in comics, how many of the heroes have a secret identity as a villain? I can't think of any. Maybe the Thunderbolts, but they STAYED on one side.

How many fence jumpers use the same name no matter what? Deadpool. Always Deadpool. Magneto? Always Magneto.

When a hero goes Vigilante, that doesn't change what side he's on, it means he's skirting the line. So why would he change names?

It seems limited in the number who would actually use it. When you could always just make 2 toons, if they want to have two complete identiies...one as a hero and one as a villain.

I prefer the idea of the level slider that lets you delevel your self and still earn rewards (exemplar style) and give you access to low level contacts (not just stories) and stuff.
