  1. And I thought this was another World of Warcraft-bashing thread.
  2. In general, it is much easier to increase positional defense (melee, range, area) than typed defense (smash, lethal energy), simply because there are so many more types of damage than there are attack vectors. Thus it makes sense that vectored defenses lie at the end of the set bonus progression (at 5 or 6 slots, usually).
  3. How do people feel about petitioning Bridger to give lost Samurai some hami-related title?

Like Heart of the Hamidon in glowy yellow letters (Think "Protector of Little Ones").
  4. Any news on thus yet?

    /em Looks all puppy-eyed
  5. Great job everyone, and I feel honored to be mentioned (I was Sprite). Now, lets see if Lost Samurai can keep his word and keep away from more Hamidon raids? You did a great job, at great personal expense. You bought HOW many EoEs at the auction house?

I learned that you cannot blap the yellow mitochondria. I wonder if sonic or forcefield dispersion would help?

I also learned that 5-10 million for a Hami-O is indeed pretty cheap. In the seven hours, I only earned 350,000 influence (as opposed to the 10 million or so I would have earned solo in that time) and the drops were not very good at all. Basically, we do it all for glory.

Finally, I dinged 50! I wanted to save myself for a special occasion, and this was indeed special. Thank you everyone for making it so!

But I also learned a lot on how to do it, and if we do it again I think we can cut the time in half or less. You need a team of dedicated aggro holder and a score of team leaders who know what to do - the rest can just follow their team leaders.

It is a strange new world where Scrappers are the key to Hamidon. Or was it just because I was a scrapper that I felt like this? City of Heroes has the marvelous ability to make me feel like a key player whatever I play!
  6. I have two Scrappers and an Ice blaster in need of the STF badge. Been on two runs so far, one of which is uncompleted, the other one failed, but I'd still like not to rush too hard ands see the mission unfold.

Sunday afternoon Around 1-2 PM BST would be best.

I'm @Starfox and @Starfoxy on Union. Toons: Cidri, Sprite, and Cosmic Freeze.
  7. I have both bubble and sonic Controllers, but to be fun to play, you have to have some synergies between the primary and secondary. Secondaries that give mez resist are most interesting for primaries that rely on toggle control - that would be fire and ice control (Hot Feet and Arctic Air).

It is very easy to make a Controller with too little synergy. My first 50 was Ice/Kin - a very nice toon, but effectively half a defender and half a controller. I now made an Ice/FF, and she feels much more solid.
  8. Kinetics is very expensive. AR isn't cheap. You will be low on End until you get Transfusion at 35.

I recommend BOTH Stamina and endredux slotting.
  9. Well, the restoration of the channels made this academic.

    I can still argue for my system;

    * I (and other people, at least among my friends) have our heroes in one place, villains in another.

    * It gets confusing when people have to ask if its heroes or villains.
  10. We lost global channels today, among them "Union Badgehunters". I'd like to propose a reorganization of these channels.

First, use ONE WORD names. UnionBadgehunters or Union_Badgehunters.

Second, and much less important, I propose separate channels for union heroes and villains. like:

    UnionHeroBadgers
    UnionVillainBadgers
  11. I never took the shields on my kheldians, I play them more like blappers. You get quite a bit of protection from Cosmic Balance (and whatever the Warshade equivalent is called). That way, at least you get less annoyed about toggle drops.
  12. Don't be surprised if you have to run more than one team for this. Last time something like this was done, I believe we had four teams running when we got to Numina.

  13. The global server has crashed again. I had to re-create two channels today. However, it seems NCsoft recreates the larger channels, among them "Union Badgehunters".

Please, the next time you recreate this channel and all its members, rename it. Call it UnionBadgehunters, Union-Badgehunters, Union_Badgehunters or anything else, as long as it is ONE word.

The reason is that I (and many others with me) are using keybinds to send messages in the different channels. A keybind like this:

    CTRL+S "show chat$$beginchat /send MyChannel [$name-$level] "

will prime the chat line so that any message i type will be sent to MyChannel. This lets me avoid mistells and keeps my regular conversations in team chat.

Sadly, this does not work with a two-word channel name, like "Union Badgehunters". It does work for a short while, but the bind quickly gets corrupted and stops working, to great annoyance.

I hope the other people in this great channel can live with a name change.
  14. Hated is beyond skipped in my vocabulary. There are many powers I don't hate that I just skip. So, no Hoarfrost for me - I just see no situations where it comes in useful.

Its a matter of style I guess - seems others like it more than enough. More power to them.

Regarding Fiery Aura, the only real complaint I have with it is Healing Flames which is probably the worst self heal in the game. If I had the power slots I would have taken Aid Self instead.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Of course, they did change Healing Flames in I8. IIR, 50% more heal, 33% less recovery. Now it is a lovely power.

I've always hated Dull Pain and the other 5 minute recharge hp boosters - my Ice tank has Aid Self and that's it. Healing Flames was always better IMO, and now it really rocks.
  16. I've found end reduction more useful than interrupt reduction on Aid Self. If you click the power and get interrupted, the power remains available, but you pay the full end cost. You can try cklicking it again. If you do this many times and get interrupted, the end cost is staggering. But in the end you do get healed. And the base interuuptible time on Aid Self is very short. Sure, you can reduce it furhter, but I'm not sure its worth it.
  17. We have had the gauntlet bug for quite some time now. As far as I understand, Taunt now affects one target, gauntlet doesn't work at all, and the only way to keep the aggro of more than one is to switch targets constantly or use AoE.

At first, the reaction seemed to be shock and disbeleif. People didn't know of the bug, and when they learned of it they broke down. After that came a period of no tanks. Outside of the winter event, not a tank was to be seen anywhere. But now some of the tanks seem to be coming back. And they seem to get invites. The role of the tank has changed; it is no longer to lock all the aggro down; it is to take the alpha strike and then just pound away.

My experience with broken gauntlet is not that bad. Maybe because I prefer Fire Melee, where Combustion is still a great aggro holder. I managed to tank a Positron TF just fine with my lowbie Earth/Fire, and my lvl 44 Fire/Fire and 27 Fire/Ice both work reasonably well. Not as good as they used to, but well enough to play. My Ice/SS has, however, become completely useless, and I havn't even tried my Invul/Fire.

Still, the experience has not been all bad. Teams seem to catch on pretty quickly to what you can actually do. Don't read me wrong, I don't want this to continue, but its not as bad as I first tought it would be.

So, how do other tank players cope?

    Positron TF

Just some tips to you guys from someone who has run posi 20+ times:

The key to Positron is Buff/Debuff and damage. You can't really tank Vazhilok. Defenders/Controllers are your friends, if you can get them.

Lacking buff/debuff, Positron is easiest on a small team. Actually, it is easiest solo. A good Scrapper or high-damage Controller can solo it without too much trouble. You can start it out with eight people, then everyone logs off and one of you returns, doing all the missions bar the last one. Then everyone returns to a triumphant finish. Might not be fun, but its easy. Wierdly, a duo generally has the hardest time of all. Good team sizes are odd numbers 1, 3, 5 - fewer bosses that way.

But the best way is to have a large team with loads of buff/debuff. Force Field and Trick Arrow are especially valuable, as is Illusion/Mind control with confusion for those vazhilok bombs. Get 3-5 defenders/controllers, then rampage!

If you have to take an extended afk, log off from the game without quitting the task force. Spawns get easier for your pals, and you'll re-join the task force as you log back on. And if you can, sidekick as high as possible. The enemy is level 15-17, and with trainers and DOs you just can't fight anything beyond +3.

Finally, Positron is the hardest task force - harder than the Shadow Shard ones in my opinion. Expect some debt and a team wipe or five. How the devs can have the hardest task force be the first one is beyond me, but that's the way it is.
  19. Bloody Bay is a PvP zone? I thought people only went there for Shivans.
  20. I know you love to draw, and here you draw with words. Maybe a bit too much detail - I generally find it works better to gloss over details and let the reader's imagination fill them in. I am mainly thinking about the descriptionof the guards; that paragraph turned out a bit rough. However, this is very much a personal style thing, so don't take this observation too much to heart.
  21. Costume Gallery.

I a man and I do mostly female toons, and most of them are pretty "hawt". I even get comments on it. Far from all of them show a lot of skin doing this. I find that nudity can be obnoxious, and generally reserve it for oddities like demons and catgirls (Naked? Me? No, this if fur!). I do, however, show some skin on most toons. On some, I have "faked" bare skin in odd places or stockings using colored tights. I am particularily fond of Cidri's third costume, a complete body stocking made from the scales pattern.

I discovered a previously unknown fetish for stiletto heels in CoH. Stiletto hells just look very good in this game, and most of my female toons use them. I'm not particularily fond of high-heels in real life.

Is this a childish dress-up with dolls? Maybe. I'm having fun and it makes the characters more interesting and engaging to me, so I'll probably continue doing it. However, in role-playing groups like the X8, I find I generally prefer to play male.
  22. All servers eem disappointing when you first transfer. The main rweason is that the community really doesn't take off until level 30 or so. In teen level teams, there are a lot of knowitalls and people who think the best way to get xp is to have half the team die every fight. These seem to rarely make it past 30. It gets beter in the twenties, especially on task forces.
  23. I want the Hami badges on my scrapper Cidri (Claws/SR 48). I f you are desperate, I could turn up with a Lvl 50 controller Jetstream (Ice/Kin 50) instead, but she only has one single hold.

    Frost Breath

I lost Ice Storm in a lvl 47 respec, and went Frost Breath + Static Discharge (electric epic). Two cones with quick damage. But I don't have the Ice secondary with Ice Slick and Shiver, so I had problems keeping them in my Ice Storm.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
i think i can safely say that considering the size of the community of Heroes/villains this has been done for a very small Minority of people.

    The PvP minority?
