Rebuilding the Fiery Aura set
Stone's Damage Aura isn't autohit either I'm afraid. Invincibility and Chilling Embrace are the only ones that are IIRC, and of those two Chilling Embrace is by far the stronger taunt aura.
I'd say Healing Flames could do with a boost to bring it on par with Restore Essence/Reconstruction. And if Immobilisation, Teleport Foe, Fear or KB protection was added to "Temperature Protection", it might actually suddenly become useful rather than 'the one power everyone always skips'.

Mud Pots, doesn't need ACC for slow/taunt wise, as it's insta-autohit. The "burn" DMG tho needs ACC to hit.
Regarding Fiery Aura, the only real complaint I have with it is Healing Flames which is probably the worst self heal in the game. If I had the power slots I would have taken Aid Self instead.

Of course, they did change Healing Flames in I8. IIR, 50% more heal, 33% less recovery. Now it is a lovely power.
I've always hated Dull Pain and the other 5 minute recharge hp boosters - my Ice tank has Aid Self and that's it. Healing Flames was always better IMO, and now it really rocks.

I might be wrong but the recharge isn't that long. Even if it is, why would you skip one of the key powers of the set? My tanker hits 3k+ hp when I use hoarfrost (I'm at L47 and got Freedom Phalanx). I also got Aid-Self but that was mainly for PvP and AVs.

Personally, I value a solid self-heal with decent recharge far above DP and it's clones, since they recharge far too slow, especially post-ED.
Hated is beyond skipped in my vocabulary. There are many powers I don't hate that I just skip. So, no Hoarfrost for me - I just see no situations where it comes in useful.
Its a matter of style I guess - seems others like it more than enough. More power to them.
Fire tankers are fun again. The fix in Healing Flames made me pretty enjoying my tanker again. You can heal yourself about every 20 sec (with hasten + 3slot recharge) for a awsome 50ish%. Downside.. get -slow/-recharge and you are doomed. Inv hits it panic button, ice has resist and granite doesnt have to worry anyway.
The biggest downside.. the lack of immobilize, knockback, fear, teleport, slow. The endurance use of Blazing Aura (even 2end +2 slotted) and its lack of auto taunt (acc check, even 2 acc miss often) is really heavy. Yeah great, we get a 2nd dmg buff, but due lack of above, you have to pick your powers extremely carefull since you need certain pools at all times. (fighting imho, fitness, leaping - fly wont fix imm prot).
Solo i never run BA, often not even tough or CJ. Due NRG's high damage i can survive quite well, but in team i'm nearly totaly relying on empaths or kin's to get enough endurance going and consume to be used. Lack of auto taunt i'm taunting nearly nonstop, but have to remember i'm not invincible.
Temperature Protection is the most lousy power i've seen in the set, cap fire resist with that little bit of ice resist for a whole powerslot.. No, as said.. give it a KB resist (like elec armor from brutes -grounded?) or any form of usability that it might be usefull to pick again.

The downside was always there but with all the other secondary effects to factor into your build it helps. Its a quick fix imo. It makes what _castle_ said about making good xp in DA that much more achieveable by people when they solo as it was imo tight and to me ya had to be a bit selective on the groups. So where ya had say a -30% recharge debuff its now countered by this +30% rechg buff. I think the rechg has gone from 60secs to 40secs iirc.
I solo at unyielding with my firetanky and herd 10 arrest 10 with it using my aoes (fire melee) to get good damage per end and if i am in trouble i buy time by moving to a second herdpoint but generally i find it quicker and economical endurancewise to herd. (I do wonder why i need a team apart from frustrating me with me having to repeat requests that could be beneficial to the team).

Downside with nrg melee, the whirling hands and the favo stun-i-run-miles-away bug makes it quite hard to herd em up.
But like the council, if you in a team and take alpha, the ammount of cryo gunshots you get is enough to nulify recharge. Then again, the AV (forgot name) with all her darkmelee pets can nulify your acc :P
Just give temp.protection some extra features and the whole set is nicely balanced with the rest of the armors again

out of curiosity, has anyone compared the recharge/heal % of healing flames to an equally slotted reconstruction on a scrapper?

Yeah. The % healing is exactly the same, though due to a tanker's higher HP pool they'll get better return.
The recharge is considerably better on Healing Flames than Reconstruction. If each is slotted with 3 Recharge SOs, it's roughly 20 secs for Healing Flames and 30secs for reconstruction... unbuffed 6-slotted Healing Flames would therefore be roughly the same as "6-slotted Reconstruction when Hasten is running".
i had a feeling that might be the case, bit of a shame that they've buffed the tank the wrong way to even them out.

Actually I'm really liking the look of Fire Aura now.
It's the perfect choice for a solo or "scranker" build, fairs far better in PvP than before and has the Brute population raving about their new "Regen Brutes".
I am not understanding why some people choose look at the firetank as more as a scranker unless its cos of the lack of autohit taunt from their aura.
Which imo needs a fix.

It shines more as a scranker than the other sets because it has a regular Bigass self heal and a second "build up". It also has no abilities which increase it's defence or resistances when it's in a big herd of mobs.
FA also has mediocre resistance rather than medium/high defence which lends itself to scranking better than tanking. It doesn't suffer any movement penalties from it's mez protection, although you'll need to pick up acrobatics. And finally there's a lack of autohit taunt aura.
It's certainly possible to build a Tanking Tanker with Fire Aura, the set just lends itself better to scranking. It was designed to be the most damaging primary.
Case in point, for the usual FOTM Scranker Fire/NRG... the increased self heal should now completely remove any worries about HP loss from "Energy Transfer".
Having 3SO in the shields and tough running, you still hit 70% S/L resistance. Add the 45% nrg and 90% fire, it still can perform pretty ok as a avarage tanker.
Several times i was the only tanker on the team, in some cases it was pretty hard (like cryo gun crey's) but the healing and consume makes you still pretty tough. Lack of the KB/imm/fear/tp/slow/recharge resist though makes it easier to go solo'ish scranker style, as CJ/Acro only give minor resist to KB/imm.
lack of auto taunt makes it kinda dangerous for the rest of the team, but overall it still can perform decent as tanker.

Acrobatics gives extreme resitance to KB, it's actually 10 times higher than any armor mez toggle.
Combat Jumping gives only slightly less Immobilisation Protection than Unyielding.
I run them both on my DA scrapper and have only very rarely seen CJ get overloaded (never seen Acro overloaded)
I don't doubt that a Fire Aura can produce a workable tanker, but it's still the best choice for a "scranker".
Against council it happens very often those <what you call em with warshade attacks> immobilize me.

The "Galaxy" troops? Can't say I've noticed them being particularly strong mezzers, but I haven't tried herding them except on my INV tanker who tended to run both Unyielding and CJ.
I know my Regen got immob'ed a good bit when he just ran integration but hardly ever got Held or disorientated. I think PvE mobs immobilisations just stack easier (or at least cycle more quickly) than the other mezzes.
Gravimetric snare has been stacked upon my invuln to seriously slow me to an out and out crawl, but i dare say if i was hit by as much as a firetank would of been i'd of been immob'd, and i probably was temporarily although it would be for a sec now and then but its hard to remember as i had done moonfire a seriously longtime ago when i 'could' aggro stupid amounts of them.

BA isnt the greatest taunt aura ever ill agree. HOWEVER Healing flames recharges that quickly i have no complaints about it. With regard to the taunt side of BA, really its not THAT big an issue, as long as you are the first person that a mob sees and you can herd them nice and tightly to you whilst its only you they have seen, taunt will do the rest anyway, and as long as you have 1 or 2 acc so's in BA youll hit a fair percentage of them anyway. The possibility of BA not taunting makes tanking a challenge and hence more fun in my opinion. Fire tankers are the one type that i think can either make you look awesome or completely rubbish. If you are in a good team who listens to you when you ask them to hang back for a few seconds while you consolidate your aggro, there will never be any problems, and as discussed on numerous other threads, if your team dont wait... then let darwinism run its course.
I hate reading the american forums it just depresses me, sometimes makes me sick to the stomach and i often feel that the devs take too much of an unreasonable beating but once in awhile i go see whats changed.

I have seen a firetank do a +3 babbage on an 8 man team 2 missions in a row with no defeats with good teamwork, that makes it good enough to me.
