Much of that happens because there are far more heroes playing support toons than villains. The real difference imo is not as much PPPs as that. An empath really makes the difference in teams, even in duos as someone said. I dont really see many thermals in pvp tho, although they are good enough to solo RV avs with a heavy with ease
[/ QUOTE ]
full thermal teams were en vogue for a while with capped resistances for virtually everything, right up untill people logged their rad/psis on and 2 shotted them all (I love my ice/therm though, ppps ftl) -

PvP sucks for villains tbh.
[/ QUOTE ]
Please explain why.
[/ QUOTE ]
Scrappers have highest damage modifier in the game
Controller and Defenders have highest buffs and debuffs in the game (empath heal makes a team almost unbeatable)
Every hero group now has tactics so stalkers are pretty much made redundant
PPP are appalling when compared to hero epics
Blasters can do more melee damage than Brutes and are capable of 1 shotting stalkers
[/ QUOTE ]
Am I the only one who grows tired of "villains are weak" arguement? Imo apart from the PPPs (which are nowhere near as bad as some people make out), the rest of that is rubbish, what do you even base that on?
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry but the simple fact is villains ARE weaker than hero ATs in pvp, villains ahve great potential as they are not working yet but heros have had 2.5 years of tweaks to get them where they are now and pre lvl 40 things are fun.
Lvl 50 pvp is a joke and the difference between heros and villains is laughable, PPPs on their own may not be terrible but in comparison to hero epics they are farcical. The different hero epics allow for a great deal of variety in builds while villain ones follow a set formula, for each AT they are all pretty much the same as one another.
Also the hardcore US PvPers that really do try out every single build and tactic have ALL abandoned their villains to go back to their heros as they cannot stand against a hero team. Players who on their heros can wipe several other hero pvp teams get destroyed when feilding villains and no its not a failing of the players, its the villain dynamics, there is NO villain PvP group that can touch even the moderate hero PvP groups. I can see villain powers getting tweaked but I dont think much will change with the epics and as such they will always be poor cousins in top level pvp. -

That's just like saying there's no content in Mario, all you do is jump, there's no content in Doom, all you do is shoot things... just because you don't like CoH content doesn't mean CoH hasn't content.
While CoV needs more content, there's so many content in CoH now most players won't see the half of it. Keep in mind most players haven't got a 50 (IIRC). Between the Hollows, Striga, Croatoa, Faultline soon, PVP missions, normal missions and all the TFs/trials, it should take you from 2 to 4-5 lvl 50 characters to do everything, assuming you don't solo only on Heroic and die on purpose to get debt. I've heard the consensus seems to be 200h per 50, 400h of game content is pretty big if you ask me.
Now if you don't like the content... there's not much Cryptic can do about it... because it's not a lack of content, it's because you don't like the content we have.
[/ QUOTE ]
Theres plenty of content....for 6 months of moderate gameplay, after which attrition of players will start and cryptic knows this which is why vet rewards ahve been intoduced in an attempt to retain players. I have played since release, I have seen all the content and stay for the people, concept and UI.
Missions are linear and dull now, games and players evolve quickly and 2 and a half years is a long time and while the ATs and powersets are unrecognisable from release day you can still recognise the maps and mission structures from the prebeta video. Seeing as they dont run an active marketing campaign to continually entice in new players to compensate for natural attrition retaining veteran players should be key and the odd costume peice here and there will only go so far. Mission stucturing, maps and TFs need major overhauling in order to keep the game ticking over, the EU servers and a few of the US ones are far to spartan. -

PPP powers are MASSIVELY weaker in all aspects to hero epics -
SR on stalkers seems a lot less effective than on a scrapper, this is due to the much lower hit points of a stalker so much less hits need to sneak past your defences to kill you.
AS and fly can be tricky as even though u think nu are stationary you have some inertia going so are still technically in motion. Try swapping to hover when u are next to your prey -
[ QUOTE ]
People complain about lack of content, but they did just skip most of it by Powerlevelling. I can understand people that have completed the game with various 50's Powerlevelling but not new players.
[/ QUOTE ]
why not skip it? its mostly the same? kill x, kill x, kill x. There are a couple of good and fun missions but they are few and far between (theres a fledgling superhero group you have to beat up in COV that I liked)
Contact arcs are always the same, they need to branch out to different paths at certain points so that they are different on each alt that you do them on, its not a hard or complex thing to impliment.
I love this game for the people, concept and UI, content and mission structuring is seriously weak, diverting some time to these aspects would be far more advantageous than creating lag fests like grandville which is so poorly implimented even getting to the missions is tedious, some people who are not playing stalkers cant get past +7 mobs camping the doors and walkways -
I killed hami 3 times last night, once on defiant and twice on freedom
I have managed to park an alt in hive 1 and hive 2 (hive 2 spawns after 200 or so people go into hive 1) so can check hami spawn and open the relevant hive up accordingly (hive 1 can vanish if no one is in it and someone is in hive 2)
Shame that one raid a night on EU servers is exceedingly unlikely -

I have a Lysome Exposure (Enahnces ToHit and Defence Debuff and Accuracy) open to any reasonable offers.

for those who dont know what to do with this type, dark powers can take it but I think best use is in smoke, smoke grenade and flash arrow for pvp -
the heavies are [censored] imo, there are 3 of them per side and the "balance" of them being slow but mega power is ofset by any kinetic. As a concept and in practice i think they suck and should be removed from the zone, as a counter the turrets dont ahve to be lvl 54 bosses.

You don't have a Sonic/Sonic Defender... oh shi- *flee*.
Seriously though, I am also bringing Mesmer's Kheldian.
[/ QUOTE ]
Alright, i'll bring my troller then.
ps. any Hami noobs send me a tell before or during the raid for a team invite as I'll be running a team for first timers again. Much easier to explain to everyone what's going on when we're all in one big team.
[/ QUOTE ]
Whats a hami? I hear that we should all run in and nuke at once.... -
pvp was intended right from the very inception of COH. ED came about due to people being able to tank and kill +12s
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...4409&hl=en -
NCsoft and Cryptic love powerleveling and the fact that it goes on, it keeps players in the game longer as lets face it, content is extremely limited in COH.
Content is what people whould be [censored] about not powerleveling, the way the game is set up is just to grind and grind and grind some more. The huge majority of missions in the game are massively linear and essentially the same, kill X, kill X, kill X.
They really need to employ a whole team creating new missions and mission structures in the game as well as end game content.
And back to powerleveling, who cares, play the game how you want to, if people are not hurting you why get upset with it. -
[ QUOTE ]
The Dev's have said that 'porting people in to drones/mobs isn't technically griefing, and they're unlikely to change their standpoint on that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Technically nothing is greifing really, if someones actions are just to cause another to incurr debt without attempting to take the kill this is greifing. If in doubt just petition and let the GMs sort it out, it may not seem that they do anything but they do.
I personally hate TP in all its forms in PvP, however I do have a couple of specialised teleporters that I can pull out that I use to bounce those who just seem to get their jollies from tp foe all around the zone, strangely enough they seem to get pretty bored and leave. -
explains why you havent been lvling your rad/sonic....
-
rad/psi is tasty, still plenty of ways to destroy though, just like everything.
-
psi is also getting better as the root on the first attack is lessened in i8

I actually like /dev, although there is room for improvement. Seems more themed to what a blaster should be like imo. With everyone drooling at more and more damage though, I can see how it might look pants.

I like /dev, i liked it better when it was god mode and fire/devs were the powerlevelers tool of choiceSadly it seems that todays /dev is paying for the sins of the father....

Depends what you play.
On a controller maybe. In favourable conditions you might kill some held squishys while playing a dominator before supression pops up. Blasters etc should kill something before supression kicks which is prolly why accro resists there holds. Even a tank will kill a squishy before supression kicks in. (funny how they do so much more damage than say dom or defender, despite also having there attacks in there secondary).
[/ QUOTE ]
I have tried to bring up the weakness of dominators for some time now, if you agree with me that they are disadvantaged. My blaster can kill squishies in less than 3 seconds if I stun them. Usually mere stun is enough - even if they pop break free they cannot escape in time.
A 40+ troller usually has no trouble killing held opponents. Dominators are the ones that have trouble..
[/ QUOTE ]
At 40+ things get thrown way out of balance due to hero APP's being superior to villian PPP's. It does seem stupid that a non control AT benefits more from any soft contolling secondary effects than a dom does from a whole primary of controls. Tanks, scrappers, blasters etc will stun, hold, whatever, then quickly kill a squishy before the effect wears off. The argument that "damage is your secondary, it should be low" is baloney as well. A blaster has some of its most damaging attacks in its secondary.
Oh well, positron said in an interview that they are looking into how each AT performs in PVP so maybe we will get those mandatory shoulder kittens yet.
[/ QUOTE ]
Blaster secondaries (all but em and elec are massively underperforming sets now) were supposed to be getting looked at well over a year ago and nothing has changed, but who cares so long as they keep making wonderful zones like grandville and the arachnos lab maps which are not a big pile of poop at all -

This all empath team going ahead? Yes or No?
[/ QUOTE ]
Are people considdering an all empath team? I didnt read the whole post.
Why oh why? Its a pretty bad combo, well prolly just as good as the random PUG, but prolly not much better.
Defs do 50% dmg of a blaster, and when fort is the only buffer, that means slow lvling.
[/ QUOTE ]
I dunno, I remember running with the 8 man bubbler def team and herding the hallows of +6s (at lvl 5) it was nuts and we drew quite a crowd. Of course the good stuff in emp is late on. -
I cant conceive of a pvp player without combat jumping, I havnt had a immob take on my spines for ages. Also spines stalkers are much less damaging than scrappers
-
SR is much more fun than regen, you can also laugh at all the high end psi mobs while the tanks fall over
-

FF got nerfed aye, thankg god, but its still VERY effective on masterminds, and even if u do break through, they have BG up, so its going to take a few hits..its basiclly like a tanker with slight less res or defence running around with a personal force field and masses of damage..

[/ QUOTE ]
Heavy single target damage for t3h win I'm thinking. ... oh and SR of course meaning MM's likely debuffs/heals (especially Twilight Grasp) really would have trouble hitting.
Chiefette
[/ QUOTE ]
Quite rightI usually pop elude and jump on in, SR is the only real viable scrapper set to take on MMs IMO If the MM has acro and aid self then it doest get quite hard but sooner rather than later the pets will die and the MM will follow (unless they are healing of someone else and elude crashes
)
