    Condensed version...

With Issue 16 all members of a group are auto-side kicked to one level below the group leader (or exemplared down to his level if they are higher than he is.)

Thus no more groups where the character being PL'd is 5 levels below the leader and raking in tons of extra XP per kill.
  2. It actually all comes down to this...

    They got there first..

    You did not...

  4. Drop acrobatics. Even without it you have 8pts of knockback resistance which is more than enough against 99.9% of the content in the game.

You need more slots for Hasten to speed its recharge up and to help keep Rage running.

Drop Char for Ring of Fire and move two of its slots to Hasten. Four slots in RoF gives you 2.5% S/L Defense from Enfeebled Operation.

    Read your own posts much?

The simple fact is, despite knowing that you would not have the name you wanted, you moved to the server anyhow.

If I had logged back in after my absence to find that someone had literally stolen the name "Speed Force" from my character while I was away then it would have been a deal breaker for me (and for others as well, I am certain).

You kept paying for your account despite not getting what you wanted, my account would never have seen another dime if they had implemented what you desire.

Thus the net loss would be to NCSoft's bottom line if they changed the name purge policy to what you requested and frankly that is not in their best interests.
  6. WP is definitely the "turn it on and forget about it" secondary of the Scrapper options and the simplest to learn.

As to the primary choices, both will do amazing things once they are maxed out but for the player that is new to scrappers I would give the edge to Katana.

Kat/WP will be a little bit easier to play for a someone new to scrappers as you won't have to sort out the combos that DB requires you to learn in order to maximize it's effectiveness.

Katana also helps your survivability early on with quick access to Divine Avalanche.

(but IMO DB's animations do look cooler)

(edit: Wait... were you just looking at the typed defenses? That would explain the boulder hurling comment. The typed defenses are incidental. The build has soft-capped positional defenses.)
Yeah I was just looking at the typed defenses. That's what I get for trying to analyze a character build at Two in the morning..

And I just looked over your spreadsheet...

    Wow.

Quite a bit of work (and a lot of characters) there.

From glancing at it I take it that Gyles 4 is a WP scrapper? Using that character as a template, I punched in the numbers for my Claw/WP toon and came up with a score of 1064 with one target in melee and 1758 with RttC maxed out. Which seemed a bit low to me.

I do wonder though, I didn't see a place where I could factor in the tohit Debuff from RttC which I know from in-game observation actually has a measurable effect on the enemy's to hit chances once they are in melee range.

I am also curious as to what part the numbers in columns N through U play as they don't seem to be defined. Is that a place to set aside alternate number sets for quick swapping of character variables?

At the moment I'm really tempted to but 4th or perhaps even 5th slot into hasten but I'm trying to hold my horses
More than three slots in Hasten is typically considered a waste as the slots are generally used for +recharge enhancements and once you start using Single Origin level enhancements, more than three in the power really doesn't give you any benefit.

As to influence, sell your salvage at Wentworths and you should be able to afford basic enhancements as you level up.

Note, once you hit level 22 you are then able to slot in level 25 Invention Origin Enhancements which give basically the same enhancement value as Single Origin Enhancements but can never be out leveled.

Once you get to that point, focus on those until you get to level 47+ at which point you can start looking at your influence and start planning out which IO sets you may want to start looking at getting.

    Mids Update?

    - It won't open builds from previous versions of Mids.
    - The "Accolade" virtual power is missing.
    - All the PvP enhancements are flagged as unique, whereas only the Panacea +HP/+End, Shield Wall +3 res, and Gladiator's Armor +3 def should be flagged as such.
    - The 3% defense and Resistance PVP IOs are acting as a global damage buff.
    - The PVP IOs aren't acting unique within powers meaning you can slot multiples of one set of IO into the same power.

And probably a few other errors that I missed or didn't read about.

It's kind of a build in search of a reason to exist.
You know, I can kind of see your point.

It's not going to be a A/V soloing machine, AoE killer, Tank substitute or PvP build.

It's a very interesting "odd duck" that would be decent DPS wise and very durable (Barring swarms of mobs hurling boulders at him) but it really isn't the best at any one thing.

I definitely wouldn't have thought to build it that way.

On a side note; I have been trying to figure out the calculations for your "Wernerscore" so as to understand it's meaning.

I take it that it represents an amount of incoming damage that the character can sustain before losing ground and dying?

If that is so, does that imply that the build posted above can handle 2521 DPS incoming from a single target?

I assume that you calculate the character's maximum HP recovery/sec through regeneration and healing powers in order to come up with a baseline for the rest of the calculations. In the case above factoring the 22 hp/sec + Dark Regenerations heal (minus the 5% potential miss factor) divided by the activation and recharge time of the power (or roughly 41.45 additional Hp/sec) for a maximum sustained health per second of 63.45?

As there are different levels of Defense and Resistance vs. different damage types, which damage type are you using for the calculation? The one with the most mitigation (Lethal) or a composite average of all of the various Defense and Resistance scores?

I'd kinda like to keep the name he's HAD for the entire 33 months of his existence.
IMO you should have checked using the Naming tool for that server before moving the character. Someone else beat you to it, plain and simple. They paid the same money that you did to both purchase the game and to subscribe for as long as they were playing. The fact that you are playing right now doesn't "entitle" you to pirate names from people who choose to take a break for a while.

Who's to say that if they let you steal the name from a currently inactive account that three months from now you won't go inactive for a year or more yourself? While at the same time the person you just stole the name from may decide to come back and play from Jan. 2010 until the day the game is shut down?

    Extreme example? True but possible.

I myself quit in 2006 and didn't come back until just a few months ago. But I certainly would never have re-upped my account if I had come back to find most of my characters had been renamed "Generic-112324".
  12. Soooo I buy the game at launch and give up on it after a month or two due to rampant mapserver disconnects, NPC spawning bugs and other problems but then years later I hear some good things about a new expansion (Villains, AE, etc.) and decide to give it a try again only to log in and find my perfect themed/designed character "Speed Force" has had his name deleted?

    You know what happens then?

I delete the game from my computer, throw away the discs and NCSoft never sees a dime of my money again for anything they ever publish.

IMO all of you people whining that you can't get your "special name" are just too lazy to put any effort into coming up with something. What's worse are the people who just throw L33t speak, asterisks and other chaos into their names in order to (mis)spell what they want.

In the past three months I have added the following characters to my server:

    Captain Galaxy
    Bronze-Tiger
    Steel-Dragon
    Knight Shadow
    Gravimite
    Mass-Destruction
    Lone-Star
    Celestial Shadow
    General Disorder

...and this is over five years after launch. If I can go to the trouble of using the Name Checking tools NC has provided us to come up with something decent then so can the rest of you.

Does not compute! (When is Throw Spines not used in a 10 second span?!)
Except when fighting 20+ Lts at a time, The tactic is...

Pull till I hit the Agro cap, gather them up, hit BU then FE then Spine Burst, then start using the cone attacks to clean up the rest.

By the time I manage to group them up and have gotten Burst off several of the mobs have been being beaten by Quills for 10+ seconds and start to run.

This does not happen with my other toons when pulling on the same map so I am having to conclude that the fault behind their running lies with the Spines set.
  14. When they have been running from my scrapper, I've noticed some of them run after about 8-10 seconds and at that point they have only been hit by Quills 3-5 times and maybe Spine Burst.

So while Throw Spines may be contributing they do seem to run even when it isn't used.
  15. I've seen that exact same thing, mobs running from my spines scrapper when they just stand around my Claws toon.

That would explain why they run all over the place then.

I may have to experiment and see if turning off Quills will help with that.

(of course that would reduce the AoE goodness of the Spines set)

  16. Speed_Force

    Farming Tanks

    Not Bad Ishtar.

It's not easy to push a tank up to scrapper DPS levels but that build does it.

However, I found it easier (and much cheaper) to build a scrapper with Tanker levels of survivability instead. (about 650 million invested in my scrapper)

And based on your comments, I think you would enjoy playing the Claws/WP scrapper more because when AoE farming I just hit three attack buttons.

Still, your build is one of the best "Scranker" builds I have yet to see.
  17. So I've been looking at the builds for "farming" Fire/kin controllers and I have been trying to figure out just what power they use to uctually do damage to the enemies.

The only really damaging power I typically see is Seismic Smash, well that and the imps.

The only other thing I see is Hot Feet and even with FS maxing it out the DoT would take forever to kill off an Lt or Boss.

Are the Imps doing the bulk of the killing for a soloing controller (I would think that bosses would murder the pets) or am I missing something?
  18. So the patch notes say...

    Quote:
If you defeat someone who has recently defeated you, this will no longer restrict you from receiving rewards from the PvP defeat. The PvP reputation timer is now no longer reset from a defeat that doesn't earn reputation.
Does this mean that the Rep timer (and the chance to see a drop) is no longer reset every time you attack someone you recently defeated?

Ie. Now, you can keep fighting and defeating each other and once every 5 minutes the opportunity for a drop occurs?

    Here you go...

    1. Log into the game.
    2. Play the game.
    3. Success!
  20. Well, it would help if you told folks exactly what you were trying to do with the character..

    - A/V soloing?
    - Single Target Damage?
    - AoE Damage?
    - Farming AE missions?
    - Building for maximum survivability?
    - PvP content?

For example, I could put together a build with crazy survivability but at the cost of a lot of other things such as recharge, accuracy, damage, etc. Or something with insane amounts of AoE attacks and damage but it would be a lot more fragile.

Without knowing what you are interested in doing any random build would probably not be what you were really looking for.
  21. Speed_Force

    Katana/Fire

Well, it's one of the most survivable /fire builds I have ever seen, I'll give you that.

However, the global recharge and accuracy have suffered as well as Build Up, Consume and Fiery Embrace all of which are on really long cool downs.

If your plan is to nearly always be on a team with someone to buff your Recharge then it will probably work fairly well but for solo play I personally feel that it would just feel too slow to be enjoyable.

But that could just be me.

  22. Speed_Force

    Claws/WP

I needed it in order to be able to run Tough, Weave & Maneuvers.
  23. Speed_Force

    Farming Tanks

Coldmed, I have three Fire tanks (Fire/Fire, Fire/SS & Fire/EM) and while all of them are "adequate" farmers, for the fastest (solo) influence or tickets per minute none of them can compete with my Claws/WP scrapper.

While the Fire tanks can kill a single spawn of 10 enemies faster (using a BU + FE fueled Alpha strike) than the scrapper, on a map where the enemies are litterally packed to the walls, the steady DPS of the scrapper allows him to quickly pull ahead in the number of kills per minute.

If I had to farm on a map where I could only kill one group and then it took me 30-40 seconds to round up the next one, then the Fire tank is the better choice.

However, if the mission is crammed with 100+ enemies that swarm my character as fast as the last one is killed then the Scrapper is the much better farmer.

As to the survivability of a Fire Tank vs a WP scrapper, frankly both of them are fairly hard to kill if IO'd out and played right. It all depends on the number of enemies and the damage types and debuffs that those enemies have as to which will be tougher to kill.

I could easily build a map full of endless Psi and Cold Based attackers that would rip your Fire tank to shreds. Conversely, I could build a map full of mobs that have Defense and Regeneration debuff powers which would be a suicide run for my scrapper. My scrapper has no problem at all being on a map solo surrounded by essentially infinite bosses with S/L, Fire, Cold, Energy or Dark based attacks. However just a couple Peacebringer Bosses with their Defense Debuffing attacks can give him Hell.

It all depends on what strengths or weaknesses are being played to.
  24. You might get more out of slotting one or two procs in Typhoon's Edge as they will check each time the power is activated.

So with enough recharge you could conceivably be activating (and thus forcing a proc check) once every 7-8 seconds against all mobs in melee range.

Of course this assumes that you already have the damage enhancement in Typhoon's Edge up to the 89%+ range. If not then you'd be better off adding straight +damage enhancements at least until you reach the ED cap for the power.

And no, Soul Drain and Build up will not increase the damage from proc effects as the damage that they do is flagged as unenhanceable. While the proc will check and potentially do damage from Sould Drain's AoE it's slow recharge makes it a generally poor place to put a damage proc.

As for procs in Dark Melee, due to the high recharge in Shadow Maul it is the better place to put a damage proc effect (again, assuming you have the overall damage enhancement for the power at or near the maximum already)
