Downloaded from the website and ran the install. Tried that, as well as copying cohupdate.com from an existing install and running it. Both got stuck at the same point. Same results when I use 9.04 and the x64 version of Ubuntu...

The CoH updater aborts when it hits "geom.pigg" and won't go any further. Any idea what I may have done wrong? Wine is installed and I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 on a fresh install. Is there something I should have done with the drive partitions, maybe?

Not for Jewish people. Or Muslims. Or Hindus. Or Sikhs. Or Buddists.

"Happy Holidays" actually *includes* them in the festivities, whereas "Merry Christmas" excludes all of the above.
  4. One thing that I haven't seen mentioned is this: once the banners are down, does the event timer still apply to the GM that is spawned? We took about 11:50 in a Cap run to defeat all 4 banners, and spent 10-15 minutes looking for the GM. Is there another timer for defeating the GM, or is it the same timer? Is the GM vulnerable to the drones?

Also, it's my understanding from reading the above that the costume salvage is awarded on defeating door spawns, not simply opening a door. Probably incentive to not knock and run...

Some entity needs/wants to approve the messages before they're posted where we all can see them. Given how nit-picky some of our fellow CoX community members can be, I'm not surprised at all that this process is in place.

Depends on the change control process, how quickly it can be tested in the dev environment, when the patches go to test, and how long *that* process normally is. From there it falls into the Test Server-to-Live-Servers migration process.

Also keep in mind that a recent patch to Test implemented a "fix" where the difficulty settings had no effect of TF/SF difficulty, and that has a number of people up in arms that like to make TFs/SFs a little (or a lot) harder for the challenge. Backing that change out or modifying that change also needs to be factored into the change control process that's in place.

All in all, I'd be surprised if we see this before the Halloween event gets going...

I think this is a false and irresponsable statement based on nothing, that only leads to more gloom and doom. Closed beta for issue 16 starts next week or soon there after, it probably won't go live untill mid September. That leaves three months to get GR out before Christams and I think there is a good chance that is what they are aiming for.

It is much more likely that they want to consentrate on building hype for Issue 16 before starting the really marketing push for GR.

Of course i could be wrong, it's just an opinion, but stating GR won't come out in the next 7-8 motnhs is also just a geuss with no real facts to base that negative assumption.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If GR comes out before X-Mas, Mr Scrooge will take away the last piece of coal from the dev team. In other words, they won't have a holiday season, because they'll be fixing bugs. If they want it in stores for Xmas, it needs to RTM in October so boxes are on the shelf in November (lastest being Thanksgiving). Given that I16 is probably going to ship this year, the supposition that GR won't hit until 2010 is reasonable. There's also evidence that the emailing that went out about GR was *way* premature and in error, so don't take the timing of the notice and work backwards into a "reasonable" delivery time expectation.

I get the blaster thing, what I don't think I can follow is a demon summoning anything using that power for good. Just my two RP cents but if you are talking "demons" in the classic sense then why would they want the souls of those already "dammed" as it were.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Look at Infernal's bio; that's already part of canon. Also, Shivans are unwilling servants when summoned, demons could be just as unwilling. In fact, look at Desdemona's bio, the demons are unwilling servants.

Bah! I want a GEARS invasion. Millions and millions of the little fellas running all over the place.

And a city official handing out the "Fly Swatter" temp power (a la "Fire Extinguisher")

The last invasion there was an organized server-wide Drop Ship take down... If I remember correctly we on Virtue won with over 40 I believe (I may be off by a few)... either way it was the best time I'v had playing since I started playing this game. I so hope we get to do it again.

If you haven't had a chance to take down a Drop Ship with over 100 other Hero's... man you are seriously missing out!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Would love to be involved with a Dropship takedown. Post a gathering time on the Virtue server board, I'm more would want a piece of those human-kidnapping bastages...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah. Not that exciting. Better than the poorly done zombie attacks though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I really wish we could find out the backstory behind the zombie attacks, or simply have a zone where the zombies from the invasion have taken over everything and there's an arc that explains the backstory. That'd be cool 50+ coop content to go with raising the lvl caps...

    Going Rogue

    [ QUOTE ]
I was reading into this expansion with the limited amount of information that this paid expansion allows you to explore Praetorian Earth, where Tyrant (the evil version of Statesman) is from. It's going to allow for side switching, and introduces an alignment system etc. I'm wondering though. Will side switching only be in this "Praetorian Earth", or will be able to play our villains/heroes after they switch in the current form of paragon city or rouge isles? Only a red-name could confirm that of course, unless i'm missing something. Either way, it should be fun.

    [/ QUOTE ]

From what I've read (which is no more than anyone else), what's being referred to as "side-switching" is really more shades of gray. I think the mechanic will provide decision points as to how light or dark we can get. I don't think we'll get " I wanna be bad today/I wanna be good tomorrow" mechanics, that would suck. For those of us that had the "Stop the radio transmission" mission, I'd like to see more decision points like that in Going Rogue.

Having said that, it'd be cool to watch a "redeemed" MM stopping a bank robbery, only to pocket some of the loot at the end of the mission. Or a scrapper with a gambling problem, forced to commit crimes (or allow crimes to happen unimpeded) to pay off those debts.

What are better ways to play? Should I force myself to use the number buttons? I've heard of using the numpad, but I don't want to take my hand off the mouse.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm a big fan of the Nostromo N52 Gamepad, for the same reason. Though it doesn't get as much use now that I've gotten the Logitech G15 set up with frequently-used commands...

About my 4th year into gaming I got sick of the hand cramping over a keyboard and got a Ideazon Fang. Probably the best gaming investment I ever made. Also a standard gamepad with native computer support can be used. The game software has innate emulation for those types of controllers.

Two words: CONTRACT LAW. The EULA -IS- a legally binding contract.

[/ QUOTE ] Unless I've missed a concluded court case that didn't end in a out-of-court settlement... possibly.

[/ QUOTE ] An EULA can be legally binding, if it is worded properly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No it isn't. There are efforts to treat EULAs as if they were legally binding, but that hadn't happened yet.

Sorry, the "selling my time spent getting it" is BS. Time is not a marketable commodity. It is a unit of measurement.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't forget the double infl/infamy bonus when XP is turned off.
  18. [ QUOTE ]

I actually had this happen with one of my characters and had to switch to another. I'd forgotten about the Earn XP option, and only realized after the fact that I could have used it. As for the jump pack and jetpack, I've leveled to the teens so fast that I really had to be careful not to miss them. I can see turning off XP so you can finish one more Police Band mission without levelling.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You can always join a safeguard mission in KR at any lvl. The requirement of getting the jetpack is simply not having earned it before. As long as it's the Atlas Park safeguard, you'd still get the jetpack. I forget where the zero-G pack is, but I hate it anyway...

    Oh, thank Prime!

    1) Where IS the Rogue Isles island chain? In some places it says 50 miles offshore of Rhode Island, in one other place 500. (Which frankly makes more sense. Having another country be west of Long Island makes less sense than having one north of Bermuda.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've seen in a couple of places that the Rogue Isles are near Bermuda, which at one time probably made it a British colony, just like Bermuda. They were originally called the Rogue isles because of the pirates that called it something-akin-to home and the lawlessness that ensued.

Personally, I like the look of the Lost more than the Rikti. There's more variety. I would be happy to see level 50 Lost who have decided not to make the jump into becoming full fledged Rikti.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They're being converted against their will (see "Curing the Lost"). Thus, there won't be any decision point for any Lost to make.

I really like to know about the Zombie Hord from the Holloween event.

Are they Magical Zombies from a curse?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The salvage they drop is a clue. I don't remember if it's tech or arcane salvage, but most salvage drops are based on their origin...

    Widescreen?

    [ QUOTE ]
    Threadjack!

Anyone tried running CoH on a widescreen LCD TV with a PC input? I'd like to hear specifically if anyone has done it on a 37 or 42" widescreen, and if they thought it was worth it or not. I bet the resolution gets very pixelated at that big of a size. Thanks!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I run on my 70" LCoS and there's very little pixelation, if any. I ususally run at 1920x1024. Haven't hooked the true gaming PC up since I moved 2 months ago, but when I do... ooooooo baby!
