Something similar happened to me when I started up. As someone pointed out then, if your chacter isn't a very high level (about 10, say) it may be better to just try creating the same toon on the server you want to join. It doesn't take all that long to get back up to that level (especially as you can get teams much easier on a highly populated server) and you saved yourself 10 bucks.

Anyways, welcome to the game and I hope you enjoy your stay. I play on Virtue and although I can't claim to be unbiased, it really is the best server

Even when taken as a whole. Of all the powers in /shields the one that both myself and the team get the least utility out of is Grant Cover. Of all the powers in the secondary to give up this is the one that hurts the least. I provide much more mitigation to my team by operating a little way out from it, turning mezzers with AoE controls around so that squishies aren't affected and prioritizing the dangerous targets first.
I'm inclined to agree with this, with a but. The but is that while GC is probably ythe most skippable power in the set, it still offers a hefty amount of DDR which is still very nice. I think it's best to skip it if you don't have room in your build, but take it if you have the room or a low mitigation primary.

    Db/SR?

I have a DB/SR and I think it is one of the most visually appealing power combos for scrappers. Don't sweat about Elude, by the time you can choose it you may very well not even need it, as soft-capping defense with IOs makes it (almost) useless. And the great news is that you can soft-cap SR for very, very little money.

On the flipside, be aware that if you want to make the most out of DBs AoE potential, you probably want seven of the nine attacks, and you also want 8 of the 9 powers in SR. You will probably want stamina, as you have no end recovery powers, and the fighting pool is very, very attractive for SRs. You might want Aid Self too, to not rely on green insps when an enemy gets lucky and knocks off two thirds of your hitpoints in one swing (it doesn't happen often, but it does happen). All in all, the build is VERY tight. You can loosen it up somewhat by taking just Blinding Feint and the attacks needed for the Attack Vitals combo, as anything else is pretty much added AoE pizzazz and thus (for some) optional.
  5. Assassins Strike, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways:

    1. BU -> AS from Hide
    2. Placate -> AS anything you want
    3. Placate -> BU -> AS when scrapping bosses
    4. Placate mob 1 -> AS mob 2

Granted, I play Kat/Nin so ASing out of Hide isn't really worth my while and using placate -> AS with one or two mobs shooting at me is perfectly viable. As Leo G said, optimal AS usage depends on a large amount of factors. In teams, for instance, I only use AS as an opener if the tank (as in the function, not the AT) is not going to be able to take the alpha (something that rarely happens after level 20 or so). Placate sees a lot of use regardless, because who doesn't like a free crit?

    Quote:
*Placating a single Rikti drone to get off an AS in that spawn (multiple drones are still a problem).
I had never thought of using Placate for that. A very nice trick indeed.

In truth, I agree with you, and like I said, it's part of the reason I don't go up against large-scale enemies. The concept of a martial artist, as practiced and hardened as she is, going up against a robot 20 feet tall and just exchanging blows is patently ridiculous. She wouldn't, no one would. But in this game, the only alternative is...getting someone else to do it with her. Lord, it gets ludicrous once you start thinking of it like that.
Interesting. Personally, I have absolutely no problem running my all-natural Stalker against all and any threats in the Isles. I think it is because I consider that what the upper limit of human potential in the CoHverse is much greater than it is in the real world. For me it's no problem the think that my stalker can dodge a Carnies mental assault because she's just that damn good at evading attacks, or slicing through a Rikti's armor by exploiting microscopic imperfections on it's surface, or kill Nemesis automata through increadibly precise strikes that send resonant vibrations throughout the robot's body, interfering with the delicate clockwork deep inside them (which tends to make them explode violently). Yes this is strictly superhuman behaviour, but I have no trouble believing that an ordinary human, with sufficient dedication and talent could do these things, because the breadth and depth of human potential is simply that much greater.

Anyhoo, let's see a breakdown of my toons:

    Heroes:
    From Paragon City: 1
    From Planet Earth: 2
    From Prime Universe: 1
From Different Reality: 2-ish. One is a Portal Corp Scientist who suffered an accident that collapsed all his alternate versions into one body.
The other one is the corporeal manifestation of a Hindu Goddess that melded PB-style with a citizen of Paragon.

    Villains:
    From the Isles: 4
    From Planet Earth: 3
    From The Prime Reality: 0
    From Different Reality: 0

Looks like my villains tend to be a lot more mundane than my heroes. I'd never noticed that.
  9. Quote:
My point was actually something like that: The COH universe is big enough that you can fit just about anything into it comfortable, so only really very specific setups would actually be incompatible, and if you have such a really incompatible idea of a story, something so specific you couldn't fit it in an alternate dimension or paralell earth or other planet or whatever... Then why play CoH?
I'm inclined to take it a step further and say that you probably can't make a character concept that you can accurately model with existing powersets and yet not be able to include within the CoH universe. Between Alternate Dimensions, Time Travel, SCIENCE! and Magic... Is there really anything that can't be done?

    *tink* *tchink*

    There go my two cents.

Ditto. For some reason I have an easier time making a decent costume out of a female toon. Another reason I make more female toons is that I like the running and jumping animations much, much more.

Off the top of my head, I have 3 male toons, no Huge (I hate the way they jump) and about... 10 females.

Damn. This is almost worth buying all the procs and foregoing the fact that I can't access the test server to test this before commitment.
You'd only need to test an immob proc and a slow proc to figure which procs more, I think. Last I checked Trap of the Hunter and Impeded Swiftness were not very pricy. Of course, it DOES mean burning through a couple of respecs. I'd do it but both my Plant Dom and my Plant Troller are still in their early teens. Maybe I'll just level one of em over the weekend...
  12. As someone who has a DB/SR scrapper but is too lazy to do the math, how much total recharge do you achieve for each attack to do the Blinding Feint -> Ablating Strike -> Sweeping Strike -> Ablating Strike combo?
  13. Yet another Brit who haunts Virtue at odd (for the locals) hours of the night here. I used to play on Defiant, but as luck would have it I had to move to Canada some time ago. As I'd cancelled my account I decided to try the American servers. Haven't looked back since, even if I'm back on the right side of the Atlantic nowadays.

    SD/WM or Inv/WM

Oh dear, I used an slightly older and pricier version. I have another cheaper version somewhere... Yep. Edited my earlier post. No ToDs, no Sciroccos. Priciest things on it is the Performance Shifter proc, the Kismet +tohit and the Steafast +3% def. The Kismet is entirely optional, but I hate missing and it looks like I might be able to get one for 2-3 mil.

The only thing I'm not sure about is End. Swinging all those AoEs isn't easy on the blue.

Oh, and the two powers from the Ice Epic is more concept than anything, you could just as easily replace them for SJ and OWtS

EDIT: I like that INV/WM build. I hadn't considered dropping Pulverize, but it looks like you can get a decent ST chain without it. That would free up some slots and a power pick on my SD tank... *goes back to tinker on Mids*

    Quote:
I never plan on devoting more slots to a power than I would using a SO/generic build in order to claim set bonuses.

Most attacks worth taking get five or six slots. But I seldom if ever devote more than four or five slots to a defensive toggle, three max for a passive - at least unless they have multiple aspects to slot up.
What I usually do is pick powers, put 5 slots into all attacks, 3/4 into defensives and then use the left over slots to reach whatever bonuses I need. Usually this involves 6-slotting things I'd rather not, but hey, what can you do.

There are only a half-dozen or so recipes going for 4-7 million, a few more in the 1 mil range and I don't intend to pay more than 500k for the vast majority of this stuff. And this was looking at the last 5 on WWs just now. Any pricey salvage I'll just pay for with AE tickets and with a bit of luck I'll land something juicy and expensive to sell with a few Merit rolls from doing a TF or three while levelling.

Yep. You get the +def even if Tough is not running, and that way you save some end and slots, which /SR usually needs desperately.

I agree with Fury_Flechette about IO levels. I try to get mine in the 35-40 range so I can exemp down a little and still have most set bonuses, but getting what is cheap is a bigger priority.
