New person here...but where is everyone else?

Okay, I've played a villain for about a day and a half now...not very long I know...and am currently located on Guardian server. What I've noticed though is that...there really isn't that much of a player count anywhere around me...have met one talkative person at which point my computer crashed and I couldn't find them ever again.

Is this just cause I'm still in the 'starter areas' or something, or did I just happen to pick a bad server for a somewhat social person to join. Was hoping to find a guild of RP type persons, or at least a friendly group to pass the long hours of evil doing and 'find that crate in the warehouse' missions.

Would like some input on whether I should just restart and leave my poor Lvl 11 Corruptor in her isolated world for another server...or if I'm just missing the bigger picture.

Well, you did happen to select one of the smaller servers, which is part of the problem. Guardian does have a playerbase, but depending on what time you play, the population can be very low, and it takes more work to find people to play with.

If you're looking for an RP group, and a large server, Virtue may be your best bet. It's the "Unofficial RP Server". Not everyone RPs, but you'll find the highest percentage of people that do. And it's also reasonably active at most times of the day, even really early in the morning, US time.

But to also answer your question, the reason you might not see a lot of people is that this is an instanced game, meaning most of the time, people are in missions. You may want to make use of the /search function to find people and/or teams.

Another option is to check the server's global channels, many have servers where people will announce various activities (teams, Task Forces, badge hunting, etc.). You can find these by right-clicking your chat window and selecting Channel Search.

But to echo Tricia, Virtue is your best bet for finding RP supergroups.

Oh...was noticing Virtue on a lot of the old "RP group recruiting" threads...but just recently. *sigh* Shoulda done my homework before joining a server. Guardian just stuck out though...thanks for the help.

Will just have to convince myself to let poor Villain girl go, or move her if that's possible, grr.

It is possible to transfer toons between servers, but it will cost you $9.99 (+tax), and if the name is taken on the destination server you will be forced to change it (at no additional cost).

Welcome to the game, Kashi!

...bleh, feeling welcome. Well...unless somebody has stolen my name from every other game too...which happens, will just hope for the best. Virtue, here we come

Well, it is possible, but it'll cost you $10.

However, if you go to a Tailor (located in Cap Au Diable, SouthWest corner), you can save her costume, and use that to recreate her on Virtue.

There are plenty of people on Virtue willing to team, especially if you join the global channels VU2009 or Virtue LFG Alpha, so you can get back to level 11 in no time.

And if you need help getting set up, or need someone to team with, you can shoot me a tell at @firebuhnee .

True that! I guarantee, if I'm online and you ask for a team in Virtue LFG Alpha, I'll personally tell you, "I'd love to, but I currently do not have any characters in that level range, and I don't like exemplaring down that far"

Also worth noting about server populations: Your most recently used server is at the top of the server list, and from there they are sorted from least people online to most online. Usually the most populous goes Freedom, Virtue, Infinity (though that third slot swaps around pretty regularly).

Most of my villains are on Virtue partially because redside on any server has a much lower average population than blueside. Guardian is a fun server, but when playing redside on any server joining a global channel or two for that server pretty much a must for teaming.

Aside from being a villain on a lower population server (there's typically a 70/30 hero/villain split), there are a few circumstances that have lowered the number of players temporarily:

1. Summer - people are outside enjoying the good weather while it lasts.
2. Competitor is beta testing, and recruited from CoH players.
3. New Issue (I16) is in closed beta on the Test server.

...I forgot what experience means.

Something similar happened to me when I started up. As someone pointed out then, if your chacter isn't a very high level (about 10, say) it may be better to just try creating the same toon on the server you want to join. It doesn't take all that long to get back up to that level (especially as you can get teams much easier on a highly populated server) and you saved yourself 10 bucks.

Anyways, welcome to the game and I hope you enjoy your stay. I play on Virtue and although I can't claim to be unbiased, it really is the best server

We're all over the place on Guardian. You shoulda tried a bit harder to find us.

Most of the tools like Global Channels and stuff have been mentioned, but I'll lay a bright neon orange* arrow down to the Guardian Forum.

Now, you may like Virtue, you may not. If you decide you do want to venture out though, Guardian has a solid playerbase of decent people who are more than willing to team and help you. Stop on by below and introduce yourself and you'll unlock everything you need to find us.

(* These new forums can be a bit overwhelming and drab in color. Using Neon always makes things Pop!)

Also...

Players tend to be either in instanced missions or hanging out at the market or AE. This means that except for zone wide events like Rikti or Zombie Invasions or a giant monster roaming around, you won't see many players on the streets.

Due to e-mail spam (2-3 a day per character) from RMT groups who harvest character names off the /search results, many players have chosen to hide themselves from search which can make that method unreliable in determining how many people are currently logged in to your server.
