  1. I have a bots/ff and nec/dark at 50. I absolutely love the nec/dark and and don't mind the bots/ff (but it's very lazy to run, imo - I prefer to be kept busy).

Both have massive potential, and I don't find either needs re-summoning constantly. As others have said, /nec isn't the toughest of primaries and I do find myself re-casting them every now and then. I don't find this a problem - as I've said to MMs I've teamed with that won't buff or heal their team-mates, but will do this to their henchies, 'the beauty of being a MM is that you can re-summon your henchies'. In a heated battle, this can be an issue with /nec, but with insp this can be managed. With /ff, of course, you just hit PFF and run to safety. I find /ff a very low-risk set (and with /bots, a very effective one), but I enjoy the thrill of playing my nec/dark
  2. A personal perspective in relation to the OP;

I really enjoy my merc/ta - it may not be 'uber', but I love the synergy in the fact that both sets are ranged. Damage output is acceptable (particularly with the /ta powers being used). It's an extremely busy combo (well, /ta makes it so) and very survivable (with the Medicine pool selected).

In terms of keeping myself busy, my nec/dark and thugs/poison are also very busy (but not to the level of the above guy). I find the damage output of /nec to be acceptable (but not stellar) and /thugs to be quite high (without any special slotting).

    Duo thug MMs

when my buddy and I rolled duo Thugs MM I rolled /poison and he rolled /ff. It seemed to work well for us (it is certainly a really fun pair to play).

Its true that the guides could use some revamping... hmm...
I don't think /ff is inferior, but it is the least favourite of secondaries on my MMs. Not because it's inferior - it's simply because I find it.... boring. With the others I have (/dark, /pain, /ta, /poison) I'm constantly buffing or debuffing.... basically, working in some capacity or other. I break out my bots/ff when I really don't want to do much (which probably explains why I don't play him often).

True, but if that were the case it gives more credence to the 'villains are unfairly discriminated against' argument and more reason they should be removed or changed to requiring non-PvP zone badges (imo).

The plaques for Swashbuckler (one in BB, one in SC) and Arachnos Rising (one in WB), and exploration badges (one in BB - Crooked Politician, 2 in WB - Triumphant and Weapon of Mass Destruction, and one in RV - Last Stand) are still required.

Triumphant is used by 2 different accolades, but unless you're using flight is child's play to get before the 30 second timer goes off - with superjump and the VIP jump pack you can get it and Weapon of Mass Destruction in the 30 second timer. Last Stand is in a fairly unassuming spot in RV that I've never had trouble getting to, and Crooked Politician is used for the Immobilizer Ray that I only ever bothered getting on two characters but usually has a Freakshow spawn right at its location in BB. At the right level to get into the zones, assuming you actually have a travel power, you can get all of them in under 5 minutes.
Raider never bothered me - at least you didn't have to actually engage a PvP zone's inhabitants. Your point about speed, though, is valid and I do tend to get in and get out ASAP.

My point (like a lot of others on the forums) is that I don't believe that the badges required for villain (I am not going to be the whiny villain player, but I couldn't help bold that ) accolades should be in the PvP zones - if it's a tactic to get PvP happening (by luring villains to the PvP zones) I think it's a disastrous strategy. Actually give reasons for villains to go in there (like stories, or different types of PvP as have been suggested in this thread) and more people (hero and villain) may go in there.

For heroes, this is the case (of course, compulsive badgers will want them all, so they will go in for them - but they don't HAVE to for accolades)

That's not true - there are several badges that still require villains to enter PvP zones (explore and one plaque, iirc).

Oh, how I wish the devs would make your statement true, but I don't think I'll see it anytime soon...
  9. Frankly, nothing would make me PvP. My regular gaming buddy has been trying to get me into it and I think he's given up. Nothing about it attracts me.

I go into the PvP zones to get the badges for villain accolades (thanks, devs), but do it off-peak and use stealth and other strategies if the character's build allows. Would I be annoyed if killed by another player while getting these explore badges? Yes. Would I blame the other players in zone? No. It's a risk I accept when going into the zone.

I don't agree with the devs decision to put explore badges that are needed for villain accolades in PvP zones, but I can't change that so I just have to accept the game mechanics and adjust my approach to minimise my contact with enemy players in the zone. The only other choice is to not get most villain accolades, and I don't like that option, either.

  11. If anyone's interested, a social group has been set up at http://boards.cityofheroes.com/group.php?groupid=143.

It's still in the forming stages, so feel free to join the group and post your ideas and feedback.

I would like to note that I realise that a lot of regular events are now being organised again (largely on Justice) and this proposed new weekly team event isn't designed to disrupt those teams/events - It's designed to add an additional option for Oceanic players.
  12. Agree with all comments posted in the thread. Well done and much appreciated, NCsoft/Paragon!
  13. Both in the Oceanic Forum and in-game I would say without reservation that you're welcome. Like Lili said, most of the action in-game happens on Justice, but there are Aussie & NZ folk spread over most or all the servers. You're best to use the 'Australia' in-game channel to reach people on various servers.

Shoot me a PM if you want to catch up on Freedom (as I don't subscribe to the in-game channel). I'm usually solo'ing or duo'ing due to playing off-peak.
  14. To the OP;

I'd like to help you form this, and I actually think going to a low population server (e.g. Champion) would be good. I'd bring along an American if that's okay.

I'd prefer red-side, but could cope with blue-side. I enjoy the villain a/t and missions more, but wouldn't be so inflexible that I'd not become a resident of Paragon City.

Also, a common theme would be good. I'd actually also extend this to power choices, but that's obviously an extension of your concept and would have to be discussed.

If you're interested, shoot me a PM on here or I'll try to look you up in-game.
  15. Thought I'd jump back into the thread to say that I didn't walk away, as some have said I threatened to do. I never intended this - what I said was;

"I will, however, take my card away from the automatic debiting."

Seeing I'm on an annual plan, that wouldn't take effect for quite a while (and only hurt me - they'd still have the money). I did say that I would remove my card from automatic renewal if there was not some official comment in reply to the concerns expressed in this thread - that was happened, and whilst it hasn't been perfect, I think the situation has improved somewhat.

My point was that I was frustrated by a situation that seemed to be hitting players in our time zone (and those we play with regularly) the hardest. Perhaps my wording could have been better, but I still maintain the validity of that point.

I do thank Paragon/NCsoft for listening to the subscribers concerns and commenting and trying to come to some compromise. That's all anyone can ever ask in these situations.
  16. Joined Freedom and basically am too lazy to change...

Whilst that was meant to be a joke, it's sort of true. However, the main reason I stay on Freedom is that my constant gaming buddy is on Freedom and our SG is there and I think for both of us it's a case of not wanting to rebuild again.

We both have been in SGs where politics made play experience more than a little difficult, and enjoy the fact that we are relatively hassle-free with our little duo SG base.

<btw, I'm not saying that if we joined SINISTER or another SG we'd have hassles, but I've gotten so used to not being part of a big SG that I'd miss my base editing privleges >

As has been said, there are Aussies/Oceanics on all servers - sometimes this does tend to get lost in the dialogue. The difficulty is often finding them on servers other than Justice

My suggestion is to join the 'Australia' global channel and that way you'll see a subset of the Aus/NZ/Oceania players regardless which server you're on.

But Redoubtable is right - Justice is the server that is seen as the 'unofficial' Aus/NZ/Oceania server.

I can't justify paying for a game I can't access as often as not.
Unforunately, I was stupid enough to renew (admittedly, I set the debit up before they changed the times and days.... well, the ones they actually say are 'regular'), so I'm stuck in this hell for another 12 months.

It doesn't just hit us though - my only regular gaming buddy is American and chooses to play in their morning (apart from the weekends it's the only time we can sync our schedules) - our teaming has been very heavily hit by this new maintenance pattern.

I will, however, take my card away from the automatic debiting. If NCsoft/Paragon actually sees fit to post a response in this forum, I may revise that.

I would have been one of those to help fund your retirement

Seriously, though, I found the global channel a long time after I started playing and despite a great deal of effort by some (particularly Lili) to be really open and inclusive, I found it hard to break into the 'group'. It didn't help that I'm primarily on Freedom and (some would say) more than a little opnionated/stubborn at times, but it got to the point where I recently deleted the global from my list (after several attempts at 'hi' to be ignored by those saying 'hi' in the channel).

I'm not here to complain about the channel - like a lot of groups, I'm absolutely sure it functions well and serves the participants well.

I agree with Lili, though - this forum is a great idea if the only thing it does is encourage people to team together and have fun as a group. Whilst it may be seen as marginalisation by some (or 'window dressing' by NCsoft/Paragon) I support its creation and think it was long overdue.

  20. Hi all,

I would give my current global, but I really want to change it so, as well as saying hi to everyone I thought I'd ask if anyone has any suggestions working around a 'tech' theme (as I'm a stereotypical geek). If so, feel free to PM me with your suggestion/s.

That out of the way, I'm an adopted BrisVegas resident (originally from south of the border) who started playing on Freedom without any particular reason. If I had known that the majority of Australian/NZ folk are on other servers I probably would have gone elsewhere. By the time I found out, I'd put a lot of months into characters there and didn't want to leave.

I started hero-side, but after about 9 months I went to the dark side. Mainly it was because I was sick of the 'magic trio' mentality and being told how I had to play the game. It was a decision I've never regretted. I love the villain a/t and the design (e.g. small number of zones). My favourite a/t is the MM by a long stretch, but I have characters of all villain a/t (usually two or more of each, except Stalker - one is enough for me). I have a level 50 of each MM primary and will be buying GR just so that I can roll a DS MM. Apart from my bots/ff I never felt bored levelling any of them, and the 50 levels seemed to go extremely quickly.

I run an SG with a friend, and it has worked out great. I was in SGs before that were very large and this didn't work out so well. When the politics of an SG cause me more stress than my paid employment, it's time to leave.

Once I decide on my new global, I'll edit this post. If any of you actually play on Freedom and want to team, let me know as I'm on most nights and at least one day on the weekend.

Finally, thank you to NCSoft/Paragon for creating a space for us (at last!) on the forums - we may not be a major market share when it comes to subscribers, but we're generally loyal

Looking forward to i16, GR and seeing some of you in-game.

  21. Don't hate a brilliant a/t because the people you've teamed with don't (in your opinion) play them well. Like very other a/t (hero and villain) you can give the players the most fantastic a/t out there and in the hands of hte ignorant, it'll still cause angst, grief and/or debt.
  22. Basically no real information has been released (that I've seen) relating to EPP or APP in relation to GR.

I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong...

    OP play a Corruptor.

Thats one of the best things about COV with a Corruptor you can heal AND deal damage AT THE SAME TIME! which when COV came out was unheard of

    [/ QUOTE ]

I love my fire/kin and fire/dark Corr and can only savour what hellish damage machine a fire/rad Corr would be (I've levelled too many Corrs to play the same powersets again).

Even my rad/rad Corr, whilst not amazing in damage, deals with mobs quite nicely with all the debuffs he has. My ice/kin Corr is also quite nasty, but no-where near the two /fire characters.

Then again, I can say the same about all my MMs - I never need a team when I'm on any of them (interestingly, I don't really get team invites while on them, but that's going off topic)

    50 at last!

    Congratulations!!!!
  25. Only thing I can think of that's remotely natural or mutant is more bestial costume parts - the ones that are currently available are limited in my opinion.

The one 'feature' that could be implemented (based on my comments above) would be to allow a new 'beast' pose where you can run on all fours and then stand upright while not moving or figthing.
