Quote:I've got a few 50's but for me, those character's "lives" ended at 50. I play for the fun of leveling, getting new powers, learning the character. The only time I really log into my 50's is when I need money for one of my alts or something like that.Actually, no... I just played with a group exemp'd down two seperate times on my lvl 50 warshade just in the past day... Once exemp'd down to lvl 16 doing the whole "Fusionette" story arc in Faultline, and once going through the entire "freakolympics" story arc exemp'd down to lvl 26.
I think there's still plenty of lvl 50s out there (including myself) who enjoy playing with teams no matter if they're exemp'd down or not.
In addition, I particularly enjoyed the fact that I had powers 5 levels above the level I was exemp'd to.
"Alien"
A few times I've gotten tells asking me to join lvl 50 missions, I politely decline. Just me I guess. -
Quote:See I never understood this either, glad the question was asked. But if you look at the combat attributes it will tell you how much defense you have, then you can figure out how to enhance? If you have 35% already, and an enhancement says it will give you 10% more, then that will take you to the soft cap?No
Not 45% enhancement. 45% total defense to all positionals, or all damage types. Or both, if you're insane.
Is this correct, or am I dead wrong? -
Quote:http://www.cityofheroes.com/account/...of_heroes.htmlI recently picked up a new computer, but I can't find my CoH install CD. (Hey, it's been five years.) I seem to recall reading posts about either downloading the client, or copying it from the old computer to the new. Unfortunately, even on the new boards, I can't find anything with the search function.
So, which method would you recommend? If download, where do I get it? If copy, what do I need to copy from my old computer?
download it, then log on using your account info -
Quote:See that's the thing with me, I've been playing for 4 years, just got my 51 month vet reward this month, and I STILL don't know what "tiers" are. I don't know what normalized is or means. I mean I LOVE the game, I guess I'm not a real numbers guy. I mean I know what the dam, acc, end numbers mean when I look at the slots on my characters, I always try to max them out. All of my characters are IO'd out, but not purples, or the most expensive sets, but they do the trick.Good set once you have everything. I admit to being somewhat disappointed that they normalized the tier 1/tier 2 attacks. Neutrino bolt in every other version of rad blast is a quirky, fast-cycling proc horse. Ours is a vanilla tier 1 blaster attack. You do have three ST attacks, but the third is not your fast-activating, OMGWTFBBQ heavy hitter. Instead it's a hybrid between your ST control power and your tier 3 attack -- control is decent, if short-lived out of the box, with much better damage than most blaster controls, but a longer activation than any tier 3.
I go more by how the character "feels", how fast the enemies drop, and how often I faceplant. I have a defender that has Rad blast, but as far as how the 2 compare, the blaster Rad blast, and the defender one, I haven't got a clue, but I know that my rad/fire blaster is damn fun to play, I hold me own on all of the teams I've been on and have only faceplanted 4-5 times in 20 levels.
But I DO take everyones advice, if someone gives me some tips to make my guys better, I take a look at it, see if it fits into my playstyle and if so, I'll give it a shot. -
Quote:I made 3 new alts when I16 went live: rad/fire blaster, emp/ar defender, and an elec/elec scrapper. Dr Faux-ton (rad/fire blaster) is by far my favorite. He's level 13 now, but at level 8 I was on a team where the stone/stone tank kept dying and the Dr just kept going and going. Sure the tank was in melee but after he went down, me and the defender on the team managed to wipe out the mobs that he left.I'm currently rolling with a Rad/GreenFire blaster.
So far the combo seems pretty potent. Looking forward to slotting up Electron Haze a little more.
I'm kinda surprised how well the synergy seems. Kinda feels like a radiation secondary with the color change. Not counting the swords. I so wish they'd given us the option to turn the swords into pom poms...
I'm curious to see how effective Irradiate is going to be for debuffing purposes now.
Then around 11 or so in the hollows it was me, another blaster (psy I think) a PB and defender I think, same situation, blaster kept dying, me. the pb and the def were finishing off the mobs. I think that in 13 levels he's only faceplanted twice, once was a team wipe, the other I jumped into the middle of a mob to use combustion and the tank ran off and they all aggro'd on me
Yep, this was well worth waiting for... -
Going back a ways, early '80's? I used to run a BBS (Bulletin Board System) here in Pittsburgh that started off with one line, and grew to an 8-line "chat board". My handle as SYSOP (SYstem OPerator) was Skywalker because I'd alwys been a SyFy geek, I guess. We had a sister-board up in New York called "The Meeting Place" (my board was called "The Chatterbox").
We had a meet and greet and some of the users, myself included, went up to New York to party with the folks from the Meeting Place. We were partying hard up there in New York and one of the users there said, "Skywalker, you like Sci-Fi and you like Rock 'n Roll, you should be "SkyROCKER!" And I've been using it ever since.
That would have been around '85 or so, so I've been using this handle for close to 25 years. Some places I can't get it, like Twitter, couldn't get it on Ebay either so there have to be some other SkyRocker's out there.
Naturally my first character here was SkyRocker, so that's my global, and when I opened a second account about a year later, the first character I created was IceBot, but after a year or so I changed the global on that account to SkyRocker 2.0 -
reinstalled Bioshock, TF2, HL2 tried free DDO (wasn't impressed)...waiting for I16...
-
Welcome Citizen! I play mostly blueside, but I do have a lvl 12 bot mm on redside, if you ever need a team mate my global is @SkyRocker and @SkyRocker 2.0 (2 accounts)
Enjoy your stay. -
Get well soon Posi! My son and I play a lot of HeroClix and you're the first character I always choose! I'm going to take a break from playing and give you a rest. TC and GWS!

Quote:I use this one:Hello
I am looking for a bind that will target a named mob. I want it to find Family Bosses for me in St Martial. Is this possible?
Thank you
v "targetenemynext$$ targetcustomnext enemy alive quantum$$ targetcustomnext enemy alive dwarf$$ targetcustomnext enemy alive void$$ targetcustomnext enemy alive cyst"
on my Khelds to target cysts, quantums, voids, etc. It's bound to my "v" key. I'm sure that if you change the target names from void/cyst/etc to whatever you're looking for it should work.
Play around with it and see what happens.
Good Luck! -
Quote:Thanks for that, I can now understand the negative opinions a lot better. I always knew there was *somethng* about him that people didn't like, now I have the details. There's a fair amount of evidence that Emmert was an "evil force" keeping things from happening. Real Numbers, for instance, never happened until after Emmert had no say whatsoever over CoX's development.
Here's a fairly good list of the things that makes most people hate Emmert (I have no opinion on ED, because I only played after CoV came out, but the lack of numbers and the basic "idea of fun" are foremost among my reasons for not liking the man's vision, and CO's first-day nerf sounds like Emmert's "idea of fun" rearing its head again.)
I started playing right around issue 4, I remember the uproar about ED, but I hadn't been playing long enough, only about 16 months at that point, for it to really, REALLY upset me to the point that it did most of the other folks here. I understood WHY they were upset though.
I see now why he has such a negative rep with some of the folks here, and combining what I've just read with all the negative stuff he said about CoX while promoting CO, I'd have to say that I'm not a real big fan of his at this point either. -
Quote:I played it, and would have considered giving up one of my CoX accounts if the game had been truely amazing, but it wasn't. NOT putting it down or anything, I don't think that CoX was the game it is today in the first year or so. I actually started playing a little after the first year, Jun '05 and it has really grown and changed since then.I was never tempted by CO, because Jack Emmert was working on it. If you notice my joined date, I played Emmert's CoX. However, I'm only a 15-month veteran, because I only stayed after Emmert left. I think it is a much better game now than it was then.
I'll try CO again, 6mo-1 year down the line, if there's a free trial available, and I'll be interested to see if it captures my attention like CoH (then) did in it's first year.
As far as all the Jack-bashing, I don't really get into all that, when he was here and I was playing the game, I didn't know what he was planning, or what he was saying, or if he *kept* the game from being all it could be, it was what it was, I liked the game and if something new came along, I enjoyed it, if things were missing that I wanted I just kept hoping for them, I didn't really consider that there was someone, an "evil force" that kept things from happening.
What I *didn't* liek about Jack was that when CO was announced every interview was a comparison to CoX and putting it down, like he'd fathered a mentally challenged child, and he was going to have another one but this one would be a super-genius. That Jack I didn't like. I can understand there would be SOME comparisons, they're both the same genre, but the constant putting down of his first "creation" just to make the newest creation seem "shinier" left a bad taste in my mouth.
Neverless I gave the game a shot, honest opinion, it wasn't bad, but I'm going to give it some time to see if it grows into some serious competition for CoX. -
-
Quote:I agree with this. Some people that are unhappy with CoX will leave, some folks will try both, some will leave and come back, but I really don't think that CO will KILL CoX or even have a dramatic impact.I don't think CO's going to have nearly the impact on the City population as some people seem to be expecting.
So my guess is the effect will be negligible.
I've been playing CoX for 4 years now, have 2 accounts and I thought that if CO was AMAZING I might have given up 1 of my CoX accounts but that hasn't been my experience. I've tried it over the last few days and what I've seen isn't enough to draw me away.
I'm not going to bash the game, I think it's a great effort for a beta and new release. CoX has had 5 years to grow and change into the game that I love, and I repsect that. I'd like to see CO after about a year and see what it becomes.
My prediction is that if CoX doesn't keep up the pace, maybe in a year or two, CO *might* have more of an impact as far as taking subscribers, but competition is good, I hope it stimulates more growth on this side and keep the devs from resting on their laurels.
But as far as I'm concerned the devs here have done an AMAZING job at putting out new content. Not all of the issues, I think I started around issue 4, have been earth shattering but they always (except for ED) change the game for the better.
And who knows, CO may draw some folks in that haven't heard of the superhero MMO and they may find that CO isn't their cup of tea and take a look at CoX. May generate some new blood for us! -
Quote:That's why I don't go for the maximum this or minimum that. When I get a new power, I look at what's available, and in the case of my WS, if one set gave 2.2% sleep resistance, and the other gave 2.2 runspeed, I'd go for the sleep resistance.*Sigh*
Here we go again.
I currently have 146.3% Global Rech. with Hasten up according to Mids...
...and I have perma-Eclipse.
Someone's numbers are wrong.
Just recorded another video yesterday that shows Eclipse poppin' up right as the previous is droppin.
"The One"
As far as the recharge, same deal, I'd go for accuracy first, recharge second, then the others in order of importance. I admire the people who can talk about soft-capped this and hard capped that, but I have no idea what any of that means.
I do/did use Mids to kind of flesh out a character, mostly when I was going for a respec, but as far as the slotting, I'd kind of throw the sets I'd LIKE to have in there, but when it came time to actually buy the IO's I'd make a choice on what was available based on price of recipie (sp) and salvage. IF the one that I originally wanted was going for 1,000,000, well I'd pick the next best thing.
Never had any problems with any of my characters making it to 50, or having fun while I played, or getting (and staying) on teams. But I would like to learn more about these soft- and hard-caps so I guess I'll head over to the player guide section to see if I can find any guides on the subjects. -
Quote:My all human WS hit 50 a few months ago. My build wasn't anything special. I just took the powers as they came, can't think of anything that was totally useless. There were some powers that I didn't use a LOT, but they all came in handy at one point or another. Just take what seems of the most benefit at the time it's available.I've made my first Warshade and I have decided to go pure human. I have a PB that I decided to go squid form and hated it, so I thought with my WS I would try something different. My WS is level 28 and so far I'm loving it. What I've been doing is staying within melee damage because at level 28, with Sunless Mire (which does alot of damage on it's own), my Orbiting Death gets up to 26 dps. Of course I have the regular attacks like shadow bolt, shadow blast, and dark detonation. Along with Unchain Essence slotted with 3 recharge reductions and of course my buffs are what keep me alive in melee range. Don't worry, I'm not trying to tank. Anyway, I love this build I have come up with! I think it might even be my favorite toon I've played so far! What I need help with is two different things. One being since this is my first WS, I'm not entirely sure which powers would be a waste of time for a pure human WS (Inky Aspect for example). And second being how to slot them. So if anyone wants to put together a build for me or even just post some kind of -advice- that would be helpful.
I used a lot of IO sets and I tried to focus on the ones that were mez reducers. I tried to get the ones that gave the benefits in 2 IO's although I had some that had to be 4 or 5 slotted to give the most benefit. On other powers I went for damage resistance and defense, in fact, I think I prioritized defense/damage resistance over actual damage doing powers. Most of the WS "blasts" are kind of weak if you think about it, so the real key for me was survivability so that I could plink away and finally defeat the villians.
I didn't tank for teams, but I did stay in the front lines as much as possible for the mire, eclipse and the stygian (forgot the name) recharge because I needed bodies for that and my pet. I did take hasten and stamina was a given.
Sorry to be so non-specific, I don't really play my 50's so I'm going from memory, I could post the build/slotting if it would help out.
Good luck! My human WS was a VERY fun character for me to play, and at times, mostly 30-40's felt very powerful, and I enjoyed him a lot! -
My 2nd or 3rd 50 was an AR/Dev blaster, probably about 6 months or so ago. I IO'd him out, nothing fancy, no "million inf" sets, whatever I could grab at whatever level I was at. I made sure to 6-slot my attacks first, mostly damage, but for example I put a damage debuff set (at least 2) into the one level one or 2 attack that could take them.
He wasn't the most powerful character I had, but I had a lot of respect for him. Rarely faceplanted unless it was a teamwipe situation where NO one got out alive, I had no problems solo'ing with him at the 2nd or 3rd mission difficulty level.
I've playted around a lot with the IO's and tend to slot off the beaten track, meaning I don't always slot for damage, I might go 4 damage IO's and 2 defense debuffs, or slows, or stuns, etc. Sometimes it's not all about the DPS, especially if you're slowing your enemy down, or chipping away at their defense and so on. And until recently when I sold a few respec recipies for 90 mill each, I ALWAYS went for the cheaper sets. But one thing I'm finding out is that some sets are cheaper because they need a salvage ingredient like Hamidon's Goo, or Military Cybernetic, or Mu Vestiment? These can be gotten for a song because the salvage is so expensive. Grab them, then go do a few AE missions, the rare salvage costs 540 tickets, you can usually get about 2k for a single mission, there's your 3 rare salvages!
Sorry to go off on a tangent, but yeah, I liked my AR/Dev and they have a lot of potential, IMHO. -
Quote:2 here. I originally got the 2nd account so I could play with my (then) 8 year old who stays with my ex-wife. Naturally she nixed it (because I wanted it?) so we just play together every saturday night when he comes over....and got a second account. I'm running low on slots on Freedom and don't have the urge to try another server. Plus, transferring inf et al is sooooooooooooooooo much easier this way.
Oh and I have a dirty confession...I PLed my first character using my first account (only to level 12 though). :O
How many of you have a 2nd, 3rd, etc etc account?
It is definitely a convienence inf/recipie/salvage xfrs. My home server is Virtue and all of the slots are filled, although I have 5 slots from vet rewards on my older account and 3 (I think) on the newer account. -
Quote:I played for my first 2 years on Freedom, got my first 50 there and I teamed a lot, never made any regular friends there so I teamed with whomever, whenever so I'd like to think that I teamed with him, and that he was a real cool guy.Thank you for all of your comments and support. Things are really rough for the family, and me as well. Alan and I had been friends since elementary school. Being gamers, we continued to hang out until I recently moved away. Even then, we were able to stay in contact through COH. Sadly, he and I never seemed to be on at the same times during the summer and I never got around to calling him. I will regret that for a long time.
For those who are curious, Alan played mainly on Freedom, with several characters at 50. I do not know the names of them all since I chatted with him via his global name. He was the leader of the VG Unusual Suspects, played heroes in at least 2 different SG's and was in an all Ice Power SG or VG on another server.
Condolences, sorry for our loss... -
Quote:I'm wondering the same thing myself. I've been playing for a little over 4 years, have 2 accounts, play pretty regularly, so I wonder about that too. I agree with most of what the others have said, if not the way some of them said it.Anyway, What are the requirements or guidelines you put in place to judge someone qualified for closed beta?
No one probably does know EXACTLY what gets you into the closed beta. You'd *think* that being a loyal customer and spending (in my case) over $1300 might do the trick, but I'm sure that some that made it into the open beta have spent less, played less, and have only 1 account.
I'd guess it's more or less a crap shoot with a small percentage getting in because they "know" somebody, and the overwhelming majority getting in through some sort of "lottery" type random selection thing.
Nothing to get bitter over, although I feel that little sting every time it's announced and I don't make it...and I'm sure I'm not alone... -
Quote:I think the colors will be awesome. This will be my first "colorized" character. I'm sure I'll go back and "retconn" the others, but he'll be the first one from scratch. I've already got the costume done, black with light green highlights. It was actually suggested by my son, we designed it together. The green "glows" against the black costume, he suggested it because it's the color he thinks of when he thinks of radiation. Works for me, it looks AWESOME.Of all the blaster sets/combos you can mess with in Issue 16's color feature... Rad/Fire seems like it would be the best-looking toy in the box.
Bonus: Irradiate would work nicely as a set up for Fire Sword Circle (sadly, you can roughly fire both off in the time it takes to move again after casting Combustion...).
I imagine we can customize ALL of the colors in a set at creation? Wouldn't make sense to do it once you actually get the power, that would require a LOT of trips to the tailor, or whatever. Then again, that "might" be the way to go, get the power, see it in action, then color it.
I guess we'll see when it gets here. -
Quote:Well, if you are OK with living in melee, the following is a build I am considering. I am not fond of putting off Acro for so long, since I find the Hold protection useful, but since only HF would shut off when mezzed, I might consider dropping it altogether and just use the KB IO in CJ.
I am also not personally sold on Hasten, especially in a build that includes Neutrino, X-ray, Ring, and Sword. I might drop Hasten, move Acro or NB up into the 20s, and use those two slots elsewhere.
Dunno how you got that build, I couldn't get it to load into Mid's, couldn't find any radiation builds on SuckerPunch's site either. I did see some threads where some folks were talking about adding rad to the mid's database, was that you?
*shrug*
Looks awesome though, pretty much exactly what I want, except my hero's gotta fly, to fit my concept. No big deal. But yeah, melee is cool. Just got done doing an ITF on my 49.5 grav/kin, and I was practically glued to the brute's butt throughout the whole thing to make sure everyone was getting sb, density, and all the other buffs. the way we were steamrolling through it, it wasn't like they really needed it. But yeah I'm no stranger to "in yer face" gameplay.
I'm going to save this chunk until I have something that can read it, and I'll definitely use it as a template. The IO's look good too, shouldn't have any problem hooking up any of my guys, sold a respec recipie last week for 90 mil on one character, sold another one tonight for another 90 mil.
If you start your rad/? blaster around I16 launch, it'd be interesting to compare notes, maybe post builds as they progress?
Thanks again for the advice and the template. -
Quote:Kitteh: I would definitely like to see that, if you remember.I designed a build (assuming Rad/Fire is a straight port) that gives ~43% melee defense w/o the PvP IO. Still it's expensive as all get-out, of course, but it doesn't leave ya gimped nor does it overslot anything. The only caveat I see is End usage.
If I can remember I'll post it once open beta hits and Mids is officially updated.
I'll have mine 3-boxed with a Sonic defender and a Kin controller.
Sooooo much destruction!
Genesis/Strato: Thanks for the tips! Since both of you seem to agree that /Fire is best used in melee, I can work with that. My grav/kin troller (lvl 44), my humanform WS (lvl 50), and my elec/elec blaster are all heavy melee'ers. I like being up there where the action is. My eng/eng blaster kind of holds back mostly because of the kb. I try to hover above everything so it's mostly knockdown.
Having never done anything with /fire, I wasn't quite sure, but I can dig being a "blapper".
Thanks again for the tips, I'm saving these to a txt file for when the time comes to use the info. -
Quote:Absolutely correct Sir! I was using a defender and a blaster window to put this together and used the wrong one! What I usually do is to take the one that gives me the most protection, unless it ABSOLUTELY has to be a certain one for concept. While I can't help with the Rad/ or the /Fire, (I'm planning on making one of these as well) I think you looked at the defender Epics not the blaster epics, the blaster Epic with Temp Invuln is Force Mastery and you're two pre reqs are PFF (take this) or Repulsion Field (not very useful since it's a PBAoE KB and your character is gonna be mostly PBAoE dmg.
I guess you can tell that I'm REALLY excited about this, I've even made the costume and saved it. I've been wanting to do this character for a long time, and with the power customization he's going to ROCK.
Thanks for the heads up... -
By opening up 2 Mid's and going back and forth, I cobbled together this build. I've never taken a /Rad defender past level 20 or so, and I've never taken a /fire anything past level 12, so I just read the power descriptions, tried to imagine how they'd relate to my playstyle. I try to stay at range, but I'll jump into melee now and then, especially if I have a power that can help someone that's in trouble, i.e. a heal or a buff. But that's mostly on my defenders or controllers. My blasters, for example my 42 eng/eng try to stay out of melee, but if something gets close I don't mind duking it out.
rad/fire blaster (concept is hero gained powers via radiation exposure, fires radioactive blasts, but also generates extreme heat at times)
1 x-ray
1 ring of fire
2 neutrino bolt
4 combustion
6 hasten
8 electron haze
10 swift
12 aim
14 health
16 build-up
18 cosmic burst
20 stamina
22 hover
24 fly
26 neutron bomb
28 consume
30 fire sword circle
32 atomic blast
35 proton volley
38 irradiate
power mastery
1 conserve power
2 temp invul
Any ideas on how I can make this better would be greatly appreciated.
