  2. Okay... may just be a dunce here, but I can't figure out the cce command for ninja leap.

Smoke bomb is simply /cce <costumeslot> ccsmokebomb

But ccninjaleap, ccleap, and ccninja_leap don't work for me.

Feral bounding, fore paws touching ground between each step? Couldn't help but think that as I was playing with back flips and tumbling. (Tapping jump as you run down the street can lead to multiple somersaults--which may please some folks I know in The Carnival of Light.)

Also makes me hope we either get travel customization or a small suite of additional runs with GR or an expansion down the line. Having even one alternative does wonders to freshen up getting around the game space.

Anyways, I bought the pack, I like the way the jumps look and feel. The run is a bit goofy. I know I risk rotten tomatoes from anime fans but the run is just too... anime for most of my characters. Wondering if there is a bind that could turn ninja jump on as I jump just so I get the flips for some more acrobatic characters?

I must say I'm a bit disappointed in the costume parts though. For one, I was really hoping that the belt, similar to the samurai armor belts, would be available on something other than robe tops. But it's not. This costume set just feels too... self defined? I know clipping can be a concern... but, c'mon at least open up a few of these parts so we can find new uses for them.

Interesting. Are you suggesting that each costume item in addition to a pulldown for texture mappings and patterns should have an additional pulldown for the reflectance of the material? OR are you asking that all existing texture maps be homogenized, i.e. how shiny tights went missing for nearly five years from boots and gloves?
  6. Do you have "death goggles" at the ready? Those might really help with the eyes... and maybe the "grinning full mask" for the mouth? Not sure where that leaves you as far as the angler bit off the top of the head though. Just coming at you from the top of my head, no angler there sadly.
  7. So Ultra Graphics mode has reflections. On environmental geometry. On costume details. This got me thinking today as I biked home from work: what about tights with varying degree of reflections? Personally I'd prefer shiny tights to remain as they currently are in UG mode, shiny but diffuse. But I'd love to see a couple new tights categories introduced (that in non UG mode would default to looking just like shiny or a little bit shinier respectively).

Reflective Tights that blend a dynamic reflection in somewhere around 10% for that high sheen look. (May also be good for a "wet look" for aquatic types as well...)

    and

Mirrored Tights that blend in a dynamic reflection at 70% - 90% for that mercurial T2000 look.

I know I know, supposedly high polished armors and other details will have reflective elements. And that is cool and all. But we have so many tights patterns already. It would be great to be able to play with reflective costuming and all those patterns without needing to rely solely upon armor. Something about sleek and reflective that says "super human" to me.

Anyways, since this isn't the suggestions forum, guess I'm curious if anyone else is starting to get excited at the prospect of reflective costume bits and if there are any ideas you've already thought of--such as fully mirrored shields and what not--that you'd like to see when GR hits.
  8. I've already got the name Midnight Gambler nabbed for a pistols/dark corr. He also is one of my few that'll use the tarot cards thematically...

oh and edit to add: I'm still playing some of my "all natural" superspies on Protector. So I'll definitely be making a few pistol packing spies. Not sure of the combinations yet and still got my fingers crossed for an MA style blapper secondary (not direct port but ninjitsu meets MA with a few thrown weapons for good measure).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2wHvSA9AEg

Go ahead and be critical if you want, but being over 10 years old, this artform or sport (depending upon your perspective) has made its way into mainstream culture in at least one famous opening movie sequence:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuZQfZ-WxTk

If you can't see a connection between some of the ways these real life athletes navigate urban spaces and how the movements of characters such as Daredevil and Spiderman have been portrayed over the decades, then it's beyond me. And yes, sometimes things come along that are distinct enough from everything else that they warrant a new word, regardless of buzz. Parkour is one such thing.
  10. I would LOVE it if we had various run styles that incorporated the dynamicism of Parkour... but I can't imagine something like this happening with how animations currently work in this game. I do have fantasies of a game engine with some sort of dynamic inverse kinematic engine built into it, permitting really cool animations as you plant a foot and a hand on whatever is around. But I've yet to see it, even in titles that tried to come close such as "the Force Unleashed."

Maybe we will see a difference later today cuz I just got us aion... but i doubt it.
You must be mistaken. This simply can't be true. The 5770's JUST were released. As in this month. The 5870 has been out a little bit longer. The 5770 is intended to be a more affordable version of the 5870 & 5850's. I'm still waiting for clear word on the 5870x2 or 59x0 (whatever they are going to call it) to see if it bumps the 5870 prices down.

Your husband may have had another couple recent cards in xFire, but not the 5770 because that would be strange to go out, buy two 5770's two weeks ago and then buy a 5870 this week for about the same price to replace those two cards.

Or will they, like DDO and LotRO, be upgrading to become DX11 capable? The game currently makes good use of bumpmaps. And if I understand DX11 hardware tessellation correctly, that sort of information could add loads more detail for folks with new systems without low end systems seeing any impacts (or improvements...)

Seeing as I'll be putting together a new machine FINALLY sometime soon (before 2010) and am seriously considering going for some version of the 5800 cards, I'd be pretty happy if it were the latter.

Anyways, thanks for compiling and posting these tweets.
  14. Getting this on a few other characters with defensive toggle powers as well. Same rate roughly as well: about 50% of the time I'll see the toggle on animation for said power instead of the CC emote.

At least the sound effect for ccespin has returned with i16
  15. Okay... been reading through some of those. And you're absolutely correct about that setup. I had seen in a couple places stuff about certain GPGPU features were expected to work "better" with an AMD card--I think the OpenCL stuff. But it may have been the blind leading the blind there. As always, thanks for the good word Father Xmas.
  16. For the tech heads around here: Curious about mixing and matching an i7 core and the new dx11 5800 cards. Any opinions or experiences regarding this move? Can an AMD GPU play nice with an intel core? Or is this foolish thinking.

I had been planning to build a new machine august/september but a few larger more important bills got in the way...and now that it's a few months later I'm starting fresh looking at possible builds for November. Still looking at roughly a $2k budget.

Was just watching stuff about DX11 and hardware tessellation. Not a huge techie here but I found myself wondering if older games that make use of current bump map technology could be retrofitted to work with this new feature when it becomes available.
  18. I enjoy getting more bosses, but yeah, with the carnies it can be overkill. They are pretty brutal and on many of my characters require pulling out a lot of stops, including a click accolade or two when solo. Running into 8 or 9 bosses on one solo map when set at even level, 1 or 2 hero difficulty with bosses on is a bit much.

As soon as you "zone out" back to Paragon or whatever, everything is back to normal as the events of the parallel univerase are unknown in the default universe.

Just a personal theory based on my own interprtation of the facts.
They've made it pretty clear that full on side switching will be what GR brings. Via a bit of a convoluted story driven path, any hero can eventually find there way to "this Earth's" Rogue Isles and any villain to Paragon (as something other than a bank robber! ).

The part about a parallel Praetorian Earth is their way of making totally new city maps. There was a dev comment a while back about them going back a ways in history of "our Earth" and comparing it to the coming "Praetorian Earth" as they sorted out which villain groups came into existence there and in what forms. Honestly, I wouldn't doubt if the Praetorian Recluse was an underground freedom fighter of some sorts, staging a very subdued (yet surgical?) campaign against Tyrant. This may mean whatever form Arachnos (as freedom fighters?) takes may be much more subdued and hidden in the shadows of an alternate Paragon. I don't expect to see Praetorian Rogue Isles. Also, I don't know how they will swing it storywise, but I expect for us finally to be able to navigate a version of Paragon sans-war walls.

Since GR is a whole new box, it allows them to bump the minimum requirements (only modestly most likely for marketing reasons though) and do a little more with the city architecture. I think that this is one aspect of GR that the "It's BEAUTIFUL" comment in the trailer alludes to...

Anyways, yeah, it's been made clear that honest to gosh come back to native Paragon/Rouge Isles side switching is in the cards with GR.

Hmmm... that doesn't fit the genre. Plenty of side-switchers have joined and even lead groups on both sides of the black/white(red/blue) morality fence in classic comics. I'd hope we have the option to do the same.

But as is alluded to here and has been asked more succinctly elsewhere: Can groups be deliberately taken grey(purple)?

No. No it doesn't. If you slow down and read objectively, the author thinks highly of CoH and its place in MMO history. I find his criticisms of the game (and all other entries in the sub-genre) to be spot on. The items he outlines are things many of us overlook due to a love of this game. Just the same, would you reject a game that had all the good things you like from CoH but also allowed you to punch baddies (or good guys) through walls, worthwhile secret identity content, graphics closer to those of the upcoming APB, and an overall more dynamic and responsive gameworld? I know I wouldn't.

I see his inclusion of CoH in his list is him making an early call that CoH is a classic. One that maybe he no longer wants to play, but nonetheless a key entry in the history of the genre and one he whose legacy he'd like to see go on.

As far as the comments, come on peoples, tease apart a few of them. Some folks are just plain saying CoH doesn't belong on the list. They don't qualify that assessment. For some, it's probably just too early. Surely, others simply hate the superhero genre. Sure, a couple make clear they didn't like the game the way it played and nothing will change their minds. But others commenting are just jockeying to squeeze their own top 5 favorite MMO franchises into that list.

Only in a world where any and all criticism = bashing does your thesis make any sense.

To be fair, Jack in several interviews leading up to the release of CO did assert that it was the spiritual heir to CoH. The notion that CO is CoH2 did not spring forth from a vacuum.

    Head Butt.

By that standard, many punches and kicks should not be in the animation suite. But perhaps you are correct that my calling it a headbutt is too precise--similar to calling something "a kick to the shins" as opposed to just a kick. My suggestion/request is for a couple attacks where the attacker uses his/her/huge's head to attack their target--regardless of whether they hit head, chest or shin.

    Head Butt.

I was obsessing about this on the train to work today... because that's what one does in this town.

With power customization, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a few alternate head butt animations added to both SS and MA. For MA, a quick snap of the neck make-those-hooligans proud sort of head butt and for SS a couple animations that could double as head rams or rhino/bull goring animations.

BABs, if you are so kind to grant these to us, I promise to use them responsibly. I swear.

(And I'm starting a thread about this because I've yet to see a proper official stickied "put all PC suggestions HERE -->" sort of thread...)
  25. Up till tonight, I was also feeling that drop rates were quite low. Then I hit a hot streak tonight. About 2 hours of play on a level 48 scrapper. Playing at +2 difficulty, 2 standard heroes, doing story arc door missions. On triumph.

I got 8 basic IO recipes, 3 meh level 48 yellow set recipes and 1 absolute amazement purple. *makes the absolute amazement face*

Anyways, that was tonight's streak breaker for me and my third ever non-purchased purple recipe FWIW.

Edit: I wasn't tracking salvage. Got all common and uncommon salvage until the end of my last mission against some Malta where two minions landed me two different rare tech salvages. All these missions were story arc missions against carnies and malta.
