Nonsense. Having expensive IOs doesn't mean you're a good player, it means you've got expensive IOs. Failboat players with purpled out builds are all over the place.

The only correlation is that good players often have expensive IOs because they can leverage their skill to get the shiny stuff more easily/quicker than other players.

ps. i did look into ss/sd as well but im already messing around with elec/sd but im sort of on and off with it right now
Best bang for your buck is SS/WP by far. Works great on just SOs.
  3. While I love the Conduit of Pain buff, it does irk me a little that in a powerset so geared towards keeping your teammates alive you get such an awesome reward for failing to do so.

If I had my way, all rez powers (self and ally) would be like Howling Twilight, so they have utility even if you/an ally isn't dead. If RotP/Soul Transfer gave you some kind of buff or could simply be used while alive it would go some way to alleviating a lot of the problems FA and DA have, in my view. Same goes for Conduit of Pain. IMO if when used on a live ally it buffed them as well as buffing you when used on a dead ally to rez them.

It's all well and good to have a power that is great for when you/an ally are dead, but it would be so much better if they worked when alive too.

    What For?

While softcap defenses are pretty awesome, especially on a squishy, it's not worth sacrificing core aspects of a character.

For example, I softcapped my rad/kin corr to smashing/lethal, but this didn't require any sacrifice of important rad or kin powers. If softcapping required me to drop a power I love or is key to a powerset I wouldn't do it.

Fortunately, I've yet to come across a combination where I had to make that kind of sacrifice. The closes I've come is my son/rad build which I softcapped to ranged def, where I had to skip some kinda neat but not crucial powers.
  5. Fair enough. Thanks for posting the screenshot, although it makes me want to make an elec/sd/blaze even more

I agree that if a mob is one-shotted it doesn't really matter that much how one-shotted they are, I was just pointing out that Inferno does significantly more damage because it means Inferno can one-shot stuff that SC/LR can't. Even though as said before, SC/LR recharging much faster and not crashing your end mean over time they can easily do as much damage.
  6. Yeah, once you've got Fulcrum Shift Siphon Power loses a lot of its utility. I still use it on AVs to debuff their damage more.

As for ranged def vs smashing/lethal, for a corr I'd go s/l. Even if you're not going to be in melee all the time, s/l is very easy to build for on a corr because of Scorpion Shield. But especially since you're a kin you should go for s/l because almost all melee attacks that could get aimed at you when you're in the fray for Fulcrum etc will have a smashing/lethal component, whereas ranged def wouldn't help you at all.
  7. What the others said. You're not going to be able to perma-hold an AV, but a cold/ice Defender is capable of soloing an AV if built well.

You'd want high recharge to get Benumb and Heatloss back up ASAP as well as high defense (ranged/AoE).
  8. hurrr um hey no offense but [something totally offensive] ahurrrrr

Haha, whoops. I totally misread Redtomax. You're absolutely right, my bad. It did seem odd to me typing it out. I shouldn't post authoritatively this early in the morning.

    Thanks for catching that

Edit Post has been deleted, heh.
  11. I'll buy it for 100m. I'll even transfer to come pick it up before the 28th

    This. :C

I was in Closed but didn't really have the time to get in and make a DP char for the level bump, let alone really try it out.

What I need is a job that pays me to be sarcastic and unhelpful on the internet. I'd be set for life :3
  13. Odd thing is, I don't think I ever got a beta invite (nothing in junk either). I was just trawling the dev digest and saw all this stuff on Dual Pistols, opened up the threads and dun dun duuuun!

So either I broke it or emails were screwy anyway.

W/O Melt Armor it's still hitting over 600. Please, show me my numbers are wrong. I'm not using SO's. My build is fully IO'd like i said with purples, oblits, kin coms, ect.

If you don't want to see and just talk numbers, then you were saying? Be a smart a, all you want. I don't care, but if you want to see it then send me a PM or shut up.
Take a screenshot. Far easier and simpler than one of us transferring a character to Justice or rolling a new character and coming with you, plus a screenshot can show your combat log.

    Soloing AV/GM's

t Gaidin, Yeah. Unlike with Scrappers where it really is a case of maximising attack chains and DPS, given the -regen in Rad you have a lot more wiggle room. So uh yeah, I think you should almost certainly be able to solo AVs, just not so sure about GMs. I'll be keeping an eye out for that thread, I'm interested myself

    t Gearford, Bitteschön.

Pah, math and facts are for people without convictions.
  18. I'm pretty sure SD can't hit softcap without IOs. Maybe a Tanker who takes Maneuvers and Weave, heh.

For me personally I also wouldn't play SD without IOs to hit the softcap, but to say they're not functional without softcap defenses is an exaggeration. Functional means they function. SD functions without softcap defenses, just not as well as it would with them.

  20. If you get good endurance reduction on your main attacks, (Footstomp and patron AoEs are major culprits for end problems), and don't mind eating inspirations as you go SS/SD should do fine on generics.

Also what Cobalt said+1. I like how for me the endgame is running TFs/IOing out a character, not grinding moar levelz.

    Soloing AV/GM's

Very strong build, easily capable of soloing AVs/GMs.

For general PvE it's a pretty synergistic combo too, Siren's Song lets you leverage Trip Mine much more easily and Trip Mine makes up for the relatively weak AoE in Sonic.

    Stone/FM

I'm afraid I can't draw up a build for you because I'm at work atm (don't tell :3) but you want to be building to softcap your s/l defense and as much recharge as you can get.

Being in Granite will make you stupid-tough, but it'll also hamstring your damage. If you want to do good damage, stay out of Granite. I would still pick it up for those rare occasions, but for the most part running around in your other armours would be best.

Tough and Weave to supplement your primary armours, softcap your smashing/lethal defense. High recharge to get as much uptime (perma if you can) on Earth's Embrace will help both your survivability, (more hp = higher regen from Rooted and more hitpoints for enemies to have to chew through), as well as bringing your AoEs and BU up faster for more damage.

+runspeed bonuses and Gift of the Ancients +7.5% runspeeds would be good to offset the speed penalties from Rooted and/or Granite.
  24. Inferno and SC both one-shotting +0s doesn't mean they're "as strong".

It's like a Maserati and an F1 car racing a beat-up old pickup truck. Both the Maserati and the F1 will reach the finish line before the pickup, but they're certainly not as fast as one another.

The fact of the matter is, when compared both in a vacuum and in the context of their respective sets, Inferno does significantly more damage than Shield Charge.

People say it because the numbers back it up.
