Quote:It's not a question of too much effort. It's not difficult at all the position yourself to KB usefully or minimize the KB.Energy is fine; I'd say fix the players.
One way to change you KB to KD is hovering over the target group. Another is knock them against a wall. Both of these methods work like a charm in regards to mitigating KB. Unfortunately this is too much effort for some.
My Energy Blast Corr has a pain secondary, and I love it.
The point is that regardless of how little effort it is, you have to take measures to mitigate/minimize your secondary effect, or cause havoc. You're saying KB is fine, but then advocate how to minimize it?
The other secondary effects may be of questionable utility depending on the situation/build, (-def from Rad, -tohit from Dark, slows and -rech in Ice), but at least you don't have to take measures to manage them.
IMO all the Energy Blast stuff should be changed to KD. That way if someone loves their KB, they can slot a single KB IO or KB set IO and have it, but people who don't want it can enjoy the set.
I don't think changing the KB to KD would be overpowered, since stuff being KDd takes them off their feet for less time than KB, (knocked on butt + get up time vs fly through air + knocked on butt + get up time). -
Going to be giving this a shot this weekend.
Tips/things to look out for?
From what I've read, have everyone try to have 2-3 EoEs and bring 2-4 mezzers?
Thanks -
Quote:If you can, fitting in both Tough/Weave and a ranged/ranged AoE from a patron would be best.Wow
Thank you everyone for big response ^_^ My character is already 49, so for better or worse the growing pains are over. Now it's jsut a matter of making her truly powerful. If I dump Hand Clap and the patron powers (I chose the patron powers, mainly for the extra AOE damage. I guess it's more important to stay alive however ^_^) I'll pick up Tough/Weave in their place, but then I have extra power remaining.
Should I go for extra attack (Hurl?) or pickup the remaining resist?
I see you've got the Black Scorpion pool in your first build, how tied are you to those powers? Like for concept or whatever? Because Gloom from Soul mastery is a fantastic ranged blast and either Dark Obliteration from Soul or Ball Lightning from Mu would be a solid addition to your AoE smashing.
Hurl does pretty good damage, the problem with it is that it's got a slowish animation. It's not as bad as it was, but Gloom/Mu Lightning are much faster. For me personally, I either work the patron blast into my attack chain or use it for tagging runners, so having a faster-animating blast is much better. Plus Hurl has a chance for KB, which can be annoying since you want stuff right next to you for Invincibility. -
Seconding the suggestion to cage one of the towers instead of Recluse himself. If LRs alpha is a concern, cage the red tower.

Quote:Yeah, I'm really not a fan of the TAoE set selection. Hopefully they'll add a few more like with the PBAoE sets.Posi's, and most of the TAoE sets, are special cases, because they have a damage/range piece where ranged damage sets have X/Y/Rech or an X/Y/End. With such sets I always sacrifice the dam/range.
It should be noted that the PvPIO TAoE damage set does not have this situation. If you six slot one of those sets at level 50 (or five slot the non-proc pieces), you end up with about 90% damage, but 85% slotted recharge, 60% slotted endred, and 66% accuracy. That could be considered better than the base stats on the purple TAoE set depending on how badly you want to ED softcap your damage. The set bonuses aren't great, though, at least in PvE. -
Quote:Cool, thanks for the update MB. I'll probably be giving this a go this weekend since some friends want it, should be a laugh if nothing elseI just wanted to come back and clarify that it was Castle that has put in the change to have the hold protection reduced to only 10. That should make it relatively easy to overcome. Also, I hear the patch is already on the test server. As for when it'll come live.. we still don't know.
-
Plus, over time don't PB and AD work out to less end/sec than the mez protection toggles like Unyielding/Integration/etc?
I seem to remember having read something like that, anyone know for sure?
Still largely moot though because with moderate global recharge AD is perma by itself so you can put 1-2 end rdx in it.
SD is end-heavy like Fire Blast is low damage. -

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I think the same can be said of a smiley, don't you?
-
Scrappers and Brutes are close enough that they're largely interchangeable, depending on your preference for Crits vs Fury.
Personally, I prefer Brutes because solo Fury isn't an issue so you've got comparable or superior performance to a Scrapper, on teams Brutes will have higher performance because of their higher buff caps and will have aggro control because of their punchvoke. -
Quote:This.I find the idea of slotting for high global recharge and then not slotting the power, itself, for recharge... odd. It's like getting a car with good gas mileage and then driving in third gear on the highway.
*shrug*
I usually 5 slot the Posi set, all but the dam/range. I only use the dam/range if it's in a cone. Unless I'm using the power mostly as a set mule, I'll generally put in a 6th slot with a generic recharge or end rdx, depending on the power.
That said, I have a love/hate relationship with the Posi Blast set. I love the set bonuses, (mainly the recovery, accuracy and recharge), but hate that it gives such poor values for recharge/end rdx but is a little overkill on the damage.
More TAoE sets, plz. -
Quote:I do agree that passive aggressive tagging, (and repping), is pathetic.[...]Oh and thanks for the tags guys, I'm glad you appreciate someone taking the time to give kudos to his teammates on the boards. It makes my day and puts a smile on my face every time I look at them. Keep it up.
That said, given that irony and I have been romantically involved for quite some time now, I do have to note that your post is classic passive aggressive :3 -

So for some reason Herostats will monitor prestige/min when I go into SG mode, but won't register my inf/min at all, in or out of SG mode.
Ideas? -
Quote:I already said I will. I've also provided more than anecdotal evidence. I've said why the numbers for EF as a damage dealing power are misleading as well as explained why, numerically (radius, -KD, DoT nature), I think it's not a good power for farming.Several people in this thread would also say that Alexander Hamilton was a president. Just because you know it to be true doesn't mean it is. Prove it with data that we can review- not anecdotal evidence.
Quote:So you don't think it can perform better than the time-tested option, but you think it performs better...? Your rationalizations and retreats are filled with statements like this.
Quote:Also, negative rep ftw. Only wish it wasn't due to speaking logically. =/ I could pick apart every whole in your logic and presumptions, but I'm not going to. Post the data or gtfo. =p Don't deflate your claim when someone asks you to prove it. That's just tacky.
I'm not deflating anything. As I said, I do think Soul can perform better than Mu mastery. My statement was just to say that I've never boasted significantly better numbers, only that they would be better.
If my numbers come up better, but only barely then I will be happy to acquiesce that I'm wrong about Soul performing better.
I've already said I'll post the numbers when I'm able to. You say you can do all kinds of things, but so far all you've done is thump your chest while standing behind Smurphy.
If you can pick apart every hole in my logic and presumptions, please do. It would be very enlightening and I am more than happy to be proved wrong. -
Quote:Actually, several people in this thread have agreed they prefer Soul over Mu.I applaud your attempts at rationalizing, but your methods aren't agreed as the most efficient.
Quote:Post a Herostats and if we're wrong, we're wrong. The Smurphy posted 19 minutes of data. That's well outside the margin of luck. If you can boast significantly larger numbers, then prove it...
I'm interested myself to see how the numbers compare. -
Quote:No, you're not being trolled. Yes, I'm saying it has a small radius. Yes, I also think Thunderstrike has a small radius. Blazing Aura has a slightly bigger radius (8) but it also does its full damage to everything in that radius, unlike Thunderstrike and it does it up front unlike Elec Fences which is all DoT.Until I see some numbers, such as herostat logs, of a Soul Mastery Brute being more effective than a Mu Mastery one I'm not going to respect your opinion. Farming is all about AoE Damage. I really don't comprehend how this is even a debate. You are saying that a single target attack is better than an AoE one. You are saying it has a tiny radius (10) when it is actually bigger than Thunderstrike (7). You are saying Electrifying Fences is a tiny damage (38.4) power when comparing it to Dark Obliteration (43.2). Am I being trolled?
Quote:Dark Obliteration
43.2 Damage, 32s Recharge, 1s animation, 15 radius
verse
Ball Lightning
50 Damage, 32s recharge, 1.07 animation, 15 radius
AND
Electrifying Fences
38.4 Damage, 20s recharge, 1.17 animation, 10 radius
That means the extra BL damage is only hitting the boss(es) or an lt or two.
Secondly, all of EFs damage is over time. If you only look at the base damage numbers, then yes, Dark Obliteration doesn't do much more damage. Except EF does it's damage over 7 seconds. The only thing that lives that long is a boss, in which case you'd be getting more damage out of Gloom.
Quote:I'll gladly switch my Brute from Soul to Mu mastery and compare the two for youHere's my numbers with Soul Mastery: *EDIT* These #s are from purple farming - going for the max # of enemies defeated that can drop purples per minute.
Personally, I prefer Soul Mastery for general play. If I wanted to kill huge hordes of enemies, which is farming, I'd switch. I'm kind of curious now how much more effective I'd be with another AoE. Hell, I could take Static Discharge too.
One thing to mention is that when I farm with my Brute, I run the Liberate map, set to +1 or +2x8. That means I've got anywhere from 1-3 bosses in a spawn, so Gloom is very worthwhile to me.
If you're only fighting minions/lts in an environment where you can herd them (like the Search Nemesis Base map) then Fences will be of significantly more benefit, since you're only using AoEs in that kind of scenario.
Running Liberate I unload Footstomp and Dark Oblit first, then beat on the bosses while they're recharging.
Edit: IamLink, fighting bosses is worth it for a Brute because Brutes, especially SS Brutes, have the ST power to kill bosses fast enough to be worthwhile. Add into that the fact that Fakes give stupidly large amounts of inf.
If you're purely going for most recipes/hour generated, yes, you'd be better off running x8 with no bosses. I prefer the extra inf and higher drop rates/chance for a Pool C recipe given I can kill bosses fast.
Edit 2: the negative rep was extraordinarily petty of you, Smurphy. Well done. -
Quote:I only have Fakes bubble when I'm not paying attention because I'm watching tv or chatting or whatever. Spare me the "doing it wrong" attitude. If you have trouble killing fakes before they bubble you are doing it wrong.
1) Save Knockout Blow for when they are 1/3 life, just before they bubble. Use it then.
2) AoE attacks are unaffected by Nemesis Vengeance. Wait for a Fake to land if it survives the KO blow, then use Foot Stomp, Electric Fences and Ball Lightning. Electric Fences only need to hit 3 targest to exceed the damage of Gloom and is only slightly under Gloom damage when hitting 2.
Gloom also helps when you're fighting +3s, (what I run if I run with a Kin), since KO at 1/3 health won't kill a +3 Fake.
Fences does about the same damage as Gloom if you hit 2 targets but it also cancels all KB/KD.
Quote:[...]
Electric Fences + Ball Lightning are the two AoEs in Mu that you want on a Farmer. Neither Fences nor Ball Lightning are cones.
Quote:If Gloom and Darkest Night are needed for your farming you are farming inefficiently. Efficiency is pretty much the entire concept of farming. Farming is trying to get as much stuff as you can in as little time as possible. Soul Mastery doesn't further that goal as much as Mu Mastery. -
Quote:Two AoEs yes, but one is a Cone which is counterproductive to a SS/FA, (because you want to be in the middle of the spawn stomping with BA ticking away), and one is mostly DoT. I forget what the exact split is, but iirc about half of BLs damage is DoT. Given how hard FS hits, it means a lot of the damage from BL is wasted on anything other than bosses. What good is Gloom for farming? My Brute uses Soul Mastery. If I wanted to farm with him I'd change to Mu so I could have two AoEs, instead of just one from Soul.
Dark Obliteration does less damage, but it does it all up front so you're getting its full benefit. BL doing more damage is moot when half of it never gets a chance to land.
Gloom is great for farming because aside from its fantastic damage and DPE/DPS, it being DoT is great for killing Fakes before they bubble. Fake just under half hp -> Gloom, KO Blow him into the air, then Gloom/Haymaker = dead Fake.
Since I respecced into Soul I have drastically fewer Fakes bubbling. And if they do, most of the time Gloom will still kill them due to the DoT. -
Quote:It's a combination of several things. Most importantly, the debuff and DoT on Irradiate. The DoT makes mobs go insane when they're at low health.I've been playing a Rad/MM up recently and since I hit 40 I've been slotting him out with sets to softcap his S/L Def and get my perma hasten, cap'd HPs and all that other crap that helps keep me alive.
This also unfortunately ment that I was able to finely start soloing most missions at +1/+8 or harder which leads me to this post.
After just a single attack chain of:
Neutron Bomb/Drain Psyche/Irradiate/Psychic Shock wave
EVERYTHING up and runs away from me, fleeing in all directions up to 100 yards. I've only played up 3 blasters to 50 this being the 4th so I may not have the experience that some of you blaster junkies do, but from what I can tell there is absolutely nothing in the effects of that attack chain that should cause this.
I team quite often so I never noticed this happening until I got a halfway decent start to my IO build and could solo huge mobs by myself.
So please riddle me this. What gives?
Taking a lot of damage + debuffed + taking DoT = FFFFFUUUUU runrunrunrun
It's manageable on my Rad/Kin because with FS his AoEs hit stupid hard, but I also lead with Irradiate then Neutron Bomb which has a Rag proc in it so a fair few of the stuff it hits gets KDed. Irradiate Scourging helps a lot too.
For a Rad/MM Blaster...*shrug* you don't have any AoE slows or immobs. What you could do is use Irradiate later or last in your chain, so it's at least ticking away on them when they run off. The only problem with that is if you've got an Achilles -res proc in it, (which you should), you won't have its benefit for your chain.
I think your best option is to lead with N.Bomb and PSW, then use Irradiate when they're already damaged so if/when they run it'll be still be hurting them. Doesn't matter if they scarper if they keel a few feet away
Edit: or take Provoke, ahahaha -
Should be around on my Pain Corr. Bringing Pain, rezzing suckers and Enforcing Morale is where it's at.

Quote:You don't need PvP IOs to pvp. You will want IOs for pvp to get enough +hp that you're not everyone's favourite target, enough KB protection and procs for your attacks.Because iv had to break down and start farming to buy PvP IOs for a few toons is why.
Im a bit of a hypocrit in that respect, but for farming, I dont need the IOs.
I have a bit of a vandetta agenst IOd Stalkers and IOd Dom's killing me over and over the second I step away from the Hospital in all PvP zones, then telling me to learn how to pvp...how do I do that when in 2-4 shots and im dead before I can react?
So realistically, im doing it for PvP.
Im tired of being the Red Headed Step Child in that department.
PvE?Easy Suase!PvP!BLARG!
The only pvp IOs I've seen to be commonly desireable in pvp builds are the procs so you can have several procs in your attacks.
Also while IOs will help, making a pvp build would help too, since pvp and pve builds are pretty dissimilar. Phase and Hibernate are of fairly limited use in pve, but they're a godsend in pvp.
Edit:
So very this. God, Gloom is good. Dark Oblit is also > BL for farming but man, mostly just Gloom being sex. -
Quote:Fire_Minded, you can farm perfectly fine on SOs.This is what I miss....Its not like you can jump in AE and get everything easier and faster, and no one held 500 Million Influ CCs 5 times a day for giggles.
Now days players get spoiled and think IO are the answer all the time. They are for PvP it seems, but not for Farming. If you need IOs for something to Farm, then maybe its not ment to farm.
Ill be farming with a Fire/EM Blaster, and a Spines/Invln Scrapper.Neither will be IO'd.
People either aim for IOs or build with IOs on farm characters because as with almost any character, IOs make them more effective.
For example, a Fire/Kin Controller can farm perfectly well on SOs, but an IOd one could farm more and faster.
Depending on what settings you want to farm at, the Spines/Invuln will farm well. The Fire/Em you might find a little squishy, until you can finetune the level/pace at which you can obliterate spawns without getting smooshed. -
