  1. Unable to attend to start with (since Wednesday nights are my regular Tabletop D&D game), but due to being short some players this week, I may become available later on.
  2. By my understanding the PhysX option in CoH is for the Ageia PhysX accelerator card. Do you have one or is it built into the 9800 GTX? (My tech knowledge skills aren't up there, I'm afraid, so I simply don't know.)

If the capabilities of the Ageia card are NOT built into the 9800 card, then CoH won't allow you to enable the option.
  3. Hmmm...

We can't get him to tell us under his own steam, and we know we can't pull him to tell us... but if we could somehow push him up to 88 miles per hour...
  4. I don't think the game engine is capable of handling two separate entrance points to a single mission right now (unless I misunderstand what you're saying, of course, or unless you misunderstood me).

My point, though, just to clarify, was that you said players would have a choice about trawling through the sewers, or going straight to the mission from the sewer entrance - when I click on the sewer entrance, how is the game engine meant to know which one I want to do?
  5. [ QUOTE ]
They're inside the Sewer, but I was thinking maybe have a choice to go to either 2 locations for missions, 1 at the entrance so soloers don't have to plough through and 2 someone in the middle of the Atlas Park part of the sewers if you're a bit more daring and on a team. What ya think?

    [/ QUOTE ]

How is the game engine going to know that you want to go to the mish rather than into the sewers?
  6. Ah, I see the Golden Girl subscribes to the same 'subtle' approach that my friends do:

"Damn, I'd really like it if you made me a cup of tea, Shad."

It doesn't work on me (mainly because I can't make a cuppa for love nor money). It's not likely to work on someone under the weight of a NDA.

    That said...

Rockjaw? Unless GhostRaptor comes up with the goods, I'll eat all the cookies that Pixie and I were going to bring to Memorabilia for you guys to eat and auction off...
  7. [u]So yous wants to be a Brute, huh?[u]

A guide to other Villainous Archetypes, by Plasmarch (reproduced with kind permission)

Brutes - What tanks WISH they were. Behold my damage! Rargh!

Stalkers - Squishy wimps. Sure, throw your little AS. Then get out of the way and let the REAL melee toons work. Rargh!

Dominators - Enough with the holds/immobs! Must herd! Must stoke fury bar! Rargh!

Corruptors - Yeah, well we'll tolerate you, as long as you keep the buffs coming. But stop killing our mobs, dammit! Rargh!

Other Brutes - Oi! Those are MY mobs! Get your own fury fuel! Grrrrr.... Rargh!

Masterminds - Get those lobotomised, door blocking, corridor jamming pets OUT OF MY WAY! RARGH!
  8. (Slightly off-topic, but someone might find it useful...)

    [u]So, you want to be a Scrapper?[u]

A guide to other Heroic Archetypes, by Plasmarch (reproduced with kind permission)

Blasters - Bunch of squishies who have no right to do more damage than us.
People with no defences have no business in a fight.

Tanks - Can be of use for getting the mobs grouped up so you don't have to
chase all over. Otherwise a waste of valuable melee space that could be
used by someone with actual attacks. Get out of the doorway and let the
    real melee toons through.

Other Scrappers - The competition. Inferior to you, which you must prove
by killing more mobs than they do.

Controllers - Useful from stopping the mobs running away from the
scrappers. Otherwise, cannon fodder. And don't get us started on what a
    travesty Phantom Army is.

Defenders - Can be useful for scraping the less capable scrappers
(everyone else) off the floor, I suppose. You did take a res capable
    build, didn't you?

Blappers - Deluded fools. Toons which fall over when you sneeze on them
have no business taking up valuble melee space. Go back to cowering at the
    rear with the other squishies.

(Still waiting on 'So you want to be a Brute')

    Flight Speed

    [ QUOTE ]
    85mph you mean.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope, definitely 58mph. Run speed caps at around 89mph, but fly speed caps at something like 59.14mph, making it vastly slower than any of the other travel powers.

While the 'minimum contact time' of SJ and TP mean that you risk aggroing mobs as you get near them when you reappear or touch down, SS's stealth bonus makes it safer than any of the others, and is about 50% faster than fly, which for most circumstances is MORE than enough to make fly a waste of time. Of course, I have both SS and Fly on my main, and I tend to use Fly in those situations where vertical movement becomes necessary. Combined, those two offer unprecedented precision and speed in getting places.
  10. Here's another question, then, GR...

A couple of times in this thread you have mentioned that NC are adjusting their billing policies in line with the new procedures.

Does this mean that it is possible that we will see Maestro reinstated as a billing option in the future, once those procedural changes have been made, or has this change put the complete kibosh on it forever?
  11. I like the fact that Scientific Theory (Common Tech Invention Salvage) fluctuated in price over the weekend from...

    18,000 inf...

    to...

    300,000 inf!

I went Freak farming for a while. Cheers to all the odd people who were willing to pay that much!
  12. How I would be tempted to respond to this...

  13. Oh, wow.

Spelling errors, requests that breach the rules we know NC abide by...

Not a bad one, all in all.

    Gone phishing.

    Be back later.

  15. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
why would that give lvl50s incentive to play?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Isn't it not so much that it would give lvl50s an incentive to play as it would give them some form of incentive to exemp, as people tend to feel a bit happier at getting something for nothing (the levelling buffs).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thank you, JD - that was actually the point I was attempting to make.

A little background as to why I thought of this idea: On the DXP weekend just gone, I spent all of Sunday on a team that started with the following: A L5 'troller, a L10 Scrapper and a L12 'troller. I was on my main, exemped to earn inf and prestige (I have a one-man SG, and I need to earn inf to pay my rent - no, I'm not on the smallest size base). I was exemped to the L12 'troller (most of the time - due to a crash, I later got exemped to the scrapper), and the dings were coming thick and fast. Too thick and fast. There was NO WAY we could have coordinated sufficiently for me to get the buff from each other character in turn, simply because the levelling was happening too quickly, and the team was moving too fast. But it struck me that while the character I was exemped down to was dinging and getting the buff for a short time, all I was getting was an increase in Combat Level. While I'm sure it would be possible to arrange things so that you get a 'free rez' from the next character to ding, would that necessarily be a bad thing?

It's not much, but it's a little added incentive for a L50 to exemp down, and that can't be a bad thing, in my eyes.
  16. Thanks, GR.

And may I say that I, for one, would be perfectly happy to use Direct Debit. (Unlikely, I know, but damn me, it would get round some of the problems.)
  17. Part of the fun of this game is playing it with an AT that many people don't think can handle a reputation. For example, the only things I've not been able to solo on my Blaster are AVs and Monsters/Giant Monsters. I may faceplant every now and then, and I may have to play it slow and steady, but I can play my blaster on Invincible with a reasonable expectation of success. Doing the same on a Tank may be slightly slower, but also far more certain, and therefore, for me, a lot less fun. I don't see why a mish should be made easier for me on my blaster, when I enjoy things just the way they are, or why a tank should have a harder time of it, and therefore have it take even longer than it does now.

  18. With the introduction in I12 of all Tier 3 Insps affecting a character who levels up, something occurs to me as an option that may be simple to implement (since the buffs are triggered by an increase in Combat Level by one step) - Grant the buffs to Exemped Level 50s, too, tied to the character they're exemped down with.

This would give a slightly greater incentive for 50s to exemp down and play on lowbie teams (much as I was doing all Sunday on the Double Rewards Weekend just gone), which I think could only be a good thing.

Obviously limits would have to be put in place to ensure that this cannot be abused (one thing that springs to mind is that the buffs should only kick in if the Combat Level increases by one, and one only, to prevent people exemping down, unexemping, and suddenly getting huge buffs, ditto with leaving PvP zones, TFs, Ourobouros mishes, etc).

    Thoughts, please!
  19. Got a couple of levels on my Peacebringer, which was excellent, and spent most of Sunday exemped down on my main, having a blast with some friends as they levelled and levelled and levelled and levelled...

I think the best was one character who got from L5 to L22 before we finished - we weren't even trying, with frequent rest-stops, casual mishing and generally chilling out. It was brilliant fun.
  20. Glad I could help, craggy. Believe me, I know how easy it is to 'lose' your extra slots, and the panic you feel.

So, for anyone else suffering from the particular problem: Each column on the character selection screen has 12 toons on it, and at the very bottom gives the option to purchase more slots. Do not get thrown off by this - check all three columns if you think you've lost a slot or two.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
The ones that came with i12 had a limited time to claim them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, they didn't. Once granted, bonus slots, even unallocated ones, can't be removed.

This has been confirmed by GR here and Lighthouse in the US.

To the OP: I'd suggest checking the other columns (especially the third one) on Union server to see if you have a couple of open ones there.
  22. Your PC certainly has the spec to play CoX. It might be worth noting that since things are extremely busy this Double Rewards Weekend, you may take longer to load that normal.
  23. Which makes it even stranger that they're removing Maestro as a whole. After all, how hard is it to say "Maestro (UK Maestro Only)" on the payment options screen?
  24. 1) UK Contract Law states that a person under the age of 18 does NOT possess the capacity to contract. Any contract which a person under the age of 18 enters into is NOT under ANY circumstance legally binding (on either party).

    2) Credit Card companies require a contract before they will give you a card.

    3) A number of NCs customers are under the age of 18.

    4) Families with poor credit ratings may struggle to get a Credit Card that does not have prohibitive interest rates.

    5) Why should the consumer go to the trouble of setting up a Credit Card to pay for a service when right now the service providing company accepts a method of payment that is available to that consumer, but the service provider is, for no apparent reason, and with no warning, withdrawing that option?
  25. Here's a suggestion for you (I'll need someone else's Search-fu to help with where you need to go, though) - download and install Pingplotter, select the CoH server IP and THEN start the game, in safe mode.

And watch Ping-plotter's track. I do not know what the outcome will be, but if you're being port-blocked by the hotel, I expect it should become pretty darn obvious.
