  1. What are the odds on Stalkers getting these?

I am of two minds about it:
    it sounds silly
    but
why limit stalkers to one concept? (as was done with shields)
  2. In terms of profit, it would be foolish to let returning players have full access to the incarnate system (ie. their most recent and compelling content in addition to the best rewards) without spending a dime beyond the onetime cost of going rogue (which, these days, is quite cheap).

If I had my suggestion, I would think that they should give access to the Alpha slot to premium players (with GR), but not slots and trials beyond that (except through subscription or piecemeal for paragon points). The alpha slot uses primarily recycled content, but is engaging enough to get players active with their old characters.
  3. Another thought that comes to mind...

If they make powersets so quickly that it becomes a financial burden, god bless them.

Unless you spend a bit more cash for some extra points.

Yes, choice is good. Maybe I get to test out that new powerset and determine that it's not for me. Great, I can use those points elsewhere. That's nice. I never bought the party pack because I didn't consider it worth the money.

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about sub+stipend+cost of a booster a year NOT being enough to get the the same quality/quantity of good stuff we've gotten in past.
So far, it looks like story arcs should be free for VIPs without exception.

I hope I can get as much value as I could for my current sub + boosters, while not getting the stuff I don't really want (emotes, cce's, etc.)

Still, there will probably be a lot more powers like ninja run. More than booster packs ever put out. Those might put me over, depending on how desireable they are.

    Free Going Rogue

People are not getting it for free. Happy?

I agree. But if they do increase their net output of content ... we might be paying the difference as well.

It saddens me deeply that, with no Redname coming on to say "no, VIPs will always get access to new Powersets free", that in my pessimistic view, take this as confirmation that they are now going to be charging for Powersets.

I had actually switched from being worried to being fairly optimistic until yesterday/todays Ustream where they all but confirmed it and I went right back into being pessimistic.

Basically it seems our subs aren't enough to support the game anymore, despite what people say, moving to this model is usually if not always a sign of desperation if the MMO has not done it from the start. It was for that Certain Other superhero MMO (where it failed) and it was for the Elves and Hobbits MMO (where it was a success).

The reason why I've never liked the F2P model (yes it is Free to play...stop trying to call it something different...while there are different F2P models, Spiral Knights and LOTRO are both Free to play but use different models), they WILL take the chance to nickel and dime us to death.

So yes..this post is DOOOOM(TM) but I now honestly can't see this being a good thing for the playerbase, for the company it definitely is, for us...not so much.

Looks like I'll be looking for another MMO in the future if they do decide to make what use to be free to subscribers into a paid for item, when is Guild Wars 2 coming out?
I agree and disagree. I hope that, to some extent, things like powersets will will be covered by the stipend which used to be *free*. In that sense, it still won't go above and beyond the sub fee. If that is the case, no real harm done.

A lot of consideration and time has gone into the design of the store and it's different UI elements. We're doing everything we can to make sure that it represents the City of Heroes experience.

As to the specific items in the store, you'll all have a chance to provide feedback once we open up beta to the general public. We're looking forward to your thoughts.
Thanks for the comments, Z. I look forward to giving informed feedback once it hits open beta.

Think how much things would cost if they rewarded points like that though.
  11. In-game stores give me some cause for concern. One reason is because sometimes the demands of marketing and the desires of players come into great conflict. I just wanted to bring up some issues which I have seen elsewhere and see where people stand. It would be nice to get some discussion on them before i21 is on our doorsteps. I speak of this as a former customer of Turbine who left after cringing at multiple decisions made in implementing and expanding their in-game stores.

    1) Intrusiveness of the in-game store:

I understand that an in-game store must be visible and that players must be aware of the opportunities it offers them. Personally, however, littering a game with store links and buttons and reminders can be very painful for me as a player. Personally, I think the store should be accessible but out of sight unless requested. If this is not palatable to marketing, at least make the store less intrusive for VIP players than for non-paying players.

    2) Sales

I normally like sales as much as the next person. That said, sales tend to make suspicious and stingy. I realize that in-game items have no inherent value, and frequent and sometimes drastic sales only acts as a further reminder ("look how cheap we can make this! it costs us nothing" har har har). Personally, I would prefer that CoH continue to deal with sales and specials just like it has for the booster packs. With the booster packs, they only go on sale occasionally, and, even then, well after the item was introduced. That way, I can happily buy new shinies the day they come out, without worrying that next week's sale will make me grind my teeth.

    3) Limited time items

Do not want. Even for holidays. Avoid at all cost.

    4) Permanent boosts

This shouldn't even need mentioning, but it must be said: Please don't introduce permanent boosts in power to the store. I don't care about temp powers, travel powers, and the like. What I mean is things like permanent stat boosts and store-only enhancements. There is no excuse for this (not even our stipend).

Sorry to be a bit suspicious, before I have even seen how the store functions, but I think we should all approach this with some healthy concern.

That article does seem to imply that the set will be store fodder.

When I said incentive, i meant incentive to pay for VIP.

Perhaps because the purchase of booster packs and items from booster packs will still exist in some fashion once Freedom drops. The purchase of a "box" or a base game will no longer exist. Therefore, the features of the base game are being redrawn with Controllers and Masterminds unlockable to create incentive to partake in the VIP system or the piecemeal premium system.

My opinion is that that is an exaggeration.

    Incentive, probably.

Also, the argument about "putting money down" for a box doesn't really hold any weight. The box was bought under the assumption that access to it's features were dependent on paying a sub fee. Today, without paying the sub fee, you get none of those features. In the future, you will get most of them.

Simply because that is very definitely something we got free before hand. I honestly don't mind fluff items like costumes or temp powers but actual powersets is kind of where I draw the line.
The problem is that we will get 400 pps free per month. So, potentially, they could view new powersets as *free* for VIPs but deliver them through the store and expect that we might use our stipend for them.

Yes hopefully someone will come in here and clear it up.
They are prone to misspeak on Ustream. He could have either meant to refer to free players (ie. not stipend points) or individual powers not sets, such as ninja run. Hopefully all powersets are included in VIP membership. They are really a must have.

Because the conversion of shields to being group powers, without an end increase, made them reconsider the end increase on MM buffs.
  20. I think the statement was in one of their Ustream videos, so it would be easy to miss.

They have all but promised more judgement powers in the future and we will definitely be getting more slots at some point. Also, we are getting a new trial in i21, so the incarnate system is not completely wanting.
  21. I believe they have stated that we wouldn't get a new slot with i21.

The last thing this game needs right now is more coats.
  23. With all bonuses from the Weekly strike target, the XP can only be gotten once per week per character.
  24. Couple bits of feedback:

There is no costume (that I could find) in the dropdown to preview the options together. To make matters slightly worse, there is a costume called "steampunk" using pieces from the core game. It would be nice to have a classic/victorian steampunk option in the dropdown list.

Overall, I don't see myself using a ton of the pieces. It's just not my aesthetic. That said, I really like some of the subtle texturing that gives some of the pieces almost a burlap texture. It looks very nice. The downside of this, however, is that it is a bit harder to mix with other pieces and get the same color.
