apparently Knight Stalker has already fought Forbearance, Debt Collector and Unforgotten. He beat them all 100-0. So he now tops the leasgue with 9 points from 3 matches, with a 'Goal' difference of 300.

Thats a brill pic nimmer. How much did it cost you?
The evil one is hilarious. -

Im interested to know how you came to that conclusion RW? Shed some light?
[/ QUOTE ]
Only just noticed this, probably too late to reply really, but...
What little actual PvP experience I have in CoX would appear to imply that I can either beat something, or not, which tends to support your view.
However, from what I read, the majority seem to think it's RPS, and from a set of arena duels I witnessed recently, I'd have to say it's biased, but not a certainty, especially when you take into account that Cryptic have explicitly not balanced the game for one-on-one combat. As soon as you start mixing other ATs in, you start getting closer to RPS (I'd imagine).
[/ QUOTE ]
Agree that team pvp 'can' be RPS, but it becomes far too complicated to debate. In my opinion the building blocks, i.e the characters making up the team should be balanced to truely allow team pvp to be balanced.
As it stands, the effectiveness of certain builds still shines through in team games.
Regarding RPS, i dont like that terminology in general with CoH. Statistically RPS should allow 33% Win, 33% Lose, 33% Draw. Which in WoW translates to , 33% Easy Wins, 33% Lose (by default), 33% Tough fights (My Experience with Rogues; Easy vs Mages, Fun Fight vs Druids, Shamans, Warriors and Other Rogues, Hellish time vs Priests, Palas and Warlocks.).
CoH has something WoW doesnt have. CoH has builds that provide PvP tools that can yield 90% Win, 5% Lose, 5% Draw.
I think CoX devs need to think hard about 2 things.
1)Movement - Travel powers screw RPS big time. A Ranged glass cannon cannot do the 'cannon' part if he has no means of kiting. The strange thing about this point is that the build offered the best means of kiting is a spines scrapper! Someone reliant on being melee.
2) Damage Scalars in PvP. Stalkers dictate under the current format that the PvP damage is near 1 shot capabilities. This does not promote a skilled fight. When people are using 2-3 attacks to succeed in a pvp fight that lasts 5 seconds its not really too exciting. (Not aimed soley at Stalkers.)
In WoW, as a rogue, i had to use at least 8-9 different abilities to take down most targets. Even with an Ambush out ot stealth on a cloth target, I would still need to follow up with a decent stun lock or be feared, sheeped or immobilised. Against a warrior we are talking serious skill. Poison both blades with crippling, open with cheap shot, back stab, sinister strike, Rupture, move outside melee range, but within charge range, reenter stealth (5 seconds without attacking), watch for battle shout, cheap shot, backstab, sinister strike, kidney shot, vanish, garrote, sprint out and wait for warrior to drop. Now, i only won 50% of my fights with warriors, because managing that kind of an attack chain, which is necessary to negate the high armour values of warriors, was never easy.
Oh, wait, im in CoH now, Build Up, Aim, Blazing Bolt, Blaze, Target down. Next! <Insert variety of other examples here>
I just dont think that when fights last so little time, there is much room for skill at all. If fights were longer, we might have to think about attack chains. As it stands, Jousts attack chain doesnt come into play unless fighting a tanker/brute. Even then its not a chain which required much thought, it was a necessary use of all my damage powers to put a dent in their HP. Not much skill in hitting powers the second they recharge.
So, a proposal, reduce the damage in PvP accross the board. Forcing more attacks to be used and proper attack chains! And no, this isnt prodding stalkers with a sharp stick! Forces these guys to use placate and actually use a sensible attack chain too. Whats more, if you take near 1 shotting ASing off them, you could afford to give them back high -perception power! If that wasn't acceptable, they have the option of playing a bit with base resistance levels accross the board. Allowing for the unresistable component of an AS to still shine.
Anyway. Just dont think CoX has PVP down at all well atm. Still enjoy it tho - in a simple kind of way.
Sorry, very OT I guess. To the OP - sucks that you got ganked, most of the time a broadcast chat should resolve. Just watch you dont get ASed while typing tho!

In danger of forming the worlds largest pyramid..
I though the pvp in WoW was awful! It was the one thing that really put me off the game. That, and the constant waiting..
The PvP was slow, palis are invincible, and the combat looked dull.
Yes, there are FOTM builds in PvP, however, as has been said time and time again, team pvp is where its at. Blancing single AT pvp is a total waste of time.
RPS, 33% Win, 33%lose 33% draw is irrelevant when applied to team matches. And team pvp in CoX ( imho ) is twenty times better than World of Nimmers. -
This is the reason my scrapper has only disembowel, hack and HS from his primary. Useless in 1on1 toe to toe, but team PvP is ALL about movement.
Also being teamed with a kin troller and an empath/rad defender increases attack speed and damage too, making the forth attack unecessary. -

In order to salvage some of my bruised pride received in the drubbing I would like to challange Psydock, Irradiator and X-plosive to a series of 1v1 level 50 matches

x-plosive wud result in a 0-0 draw, feel free to fight my fire/kin troller tho

Xplosive would go down unless you ran away all the timeslows from quills would make things very difficlut but your fire rad would eat me alive unless..

Well, a really attractive friend of the wife is coming around at 7.30 to cut my hair, so you guys have dipped until that is done. Ill be on as early as I can
( No 7.31 jokes please ) -
i'm going to upset some peeps here.
I believe fly is THE most important squishy travel power. If your being hunted in matches it gives you the option to get outta there.
At least have Syphon Speed and Hover. -

i wud go energy epic every time, the extra dmg from fire blast and fire ball compared to laser beam eyes and energy torrent isnt that much and conserve power and focused acc are awesome
[/ QUOTE ]
after going on test i have to say this is true to a certain extent, however, your missing one point mate: Fiery Embrace. Thats a 20second build-up for all those lovely fire attacks. And Char is a very nice pvp hold.
Trouble is end.
I'm having a hard time deciding between fire and power :/ -
PvE - Tough Essential
PvP - Not essential -

i know he has an axe, he would be better with energy melee, but i still feel he's better than some of those invulnur/em tanks. Playoer above build :P.

max IS a very good player, still a nimmer though. -
yes there are a lot of scrappers out there, however many of them have alts, myself included. It may be worth just seeing what numbers could be achieved in this 2/5th's ratio.
Three melee AT's is just gives too large an advantage against a side with three squishies for example.
Ideally i think pentad is THE single purest form of pvp, however not all agree, and youll struggle finding teams. -
mmmm, psydock, rhymes with drydock. Dry Dock is where sailors leave their ships. Sailors go in shore during leave, and sometimes stay in inns or hotels, like the nimmer inn in Torquay...
not definative proof, but your on the list. -

who is we?
meh i think lady is the best pvp toller, but that's just me. I know he has an axe, but he's very good though.
[/ QUOTE ]
We is the Fusion Stalking Allstars lol!
Max IS very good, but hes still got a axe, and axe's are used to chop wood. Woods are where small monkeys live, and as a nimmer is also a small monkey ( according to MA ), this proves completely that, max, is therefore a nimmer. -

First off may i say 3vP is a great event, well organised and very enjoyable!
The main thing the event has got right is this: Regular team fights, ie not a pointless 1 on 1 league ( that would just be filled with ill/kin trollers and cherry )
The ONLY downside, from what i've read so far is the people getting upset at unbalanced teams. Whilst this doesnt bother me at all, i think it upsets others..
I also think the 3 man teams is the way to go for any kind of league, as teams are much more easily organised than pentad ( s4 was a nightmare lol )
The only way i can see a pentad legue working is if a set night is picked ( ala 3vP ) and if you miss it you miss your point.
So i propose something like this:
Same initial format as 3vP with one difference. Each team must consist of no more than one melee AT ( tanker/scrapper ) and 2 of either blaster/troller/defender.
Sign up would be a first come first serve basis, and would require 20 scrappers/tankers and 30 any others..
Any thoughts ideas? -

In the arena you may see less different players, but you will face many different types of AT's, and enjoy differnet game types, and most importantly, PROPER teamwork.

Well for instance getting to fight a scrapper that is NOT regen in arena is very rare event for me..Happened in 3vP yes, but in tourneys you get to play so little PvP compared to the time invested..
[ QUOTE ]
There is absolutely nothing in zonal pvp that can get even slightly close to the fun of pentad, or for that matter, even three man 3vp.
[/ QUOTE ]
Last three times when I have asked for duel in arena channel, the responses have been either "<silence>" or "sorry, Im looking for lvl 50 match". When I go to zones, there are nearly always people there.
[/ QUOTE ]
tbh you have a point there matey, not enough pvp events in the arena for my liking!
However there are these;
Monday nights: Test server ( international )
Wednesday nights: Test Server
Thursdays:3vp
Friday nights: Union only i think
Saturady nights: villains pvp i think?
All kick off around 8pm
Also i think it is important to fill your friends list with pvp lovers if you want to pvp a lot. Most of the guys in my list will drop pretty much anything for the chance of a pvp fight -

Thats your opinion, I like the thrill of the hunt you get in zonal pvp.
[/ QUOTE ]
yep, this is my opinion, and i fully repect others.
and beating well known good players in zones is great fun too.
However, there are too many 'easy' targets that make zonal pvp too easy. On the RV event i played a level 40 stalker and after my 6th kill after a few mins, i grew bored very quickly.
At least with Arena pvp, you will face a good challenge most of the time.
( the AoW vs Union Overlords doesnt count as that was just a mass kill the squishy fest!)

MoG is great slotted as follows: 3 Def, 1 Res
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry Little Confused, Slot Defence or Heal, I'm not bothered with recharge time or End?
Thx.
[/ QUOTE ]
slot DEF! you want your DEF as high as it can be when you MoG up, otherwise you be bugg3red. 1 RES will max out the dam res too. If you want two more slots then put 2 recharge in them. -
I think all except Elite bosses and AV's should be removed from zones completely.
I find nothing more frustrating in RV, than going to target a villain/hero, and spending 5 mins wearing out my tab key.
If not removed, then at least cut the numbers down significantly.
This will help with events and lag issues too. -
[ QUOTE ]
At least you get to fight different people in the zones.
And im not sure about the fun factor.
[/ QUOTE ]
indeed...different people who go on broadcast calling you lame for using breakfrees, say you cheat when you hold them, and generally blub when you brawl kill them.

Nooooo! the zones are full of numpties a lot of the time...
Come along to the wednesday event on test..( ie the arena ).
The arena generally has people who are more helpful on build/playing advice, and overall the matches are more fun.
And you wont get some fotm spines scrapper proclaiming he is uber and you are teh gimp. -
My best pentad team would be;
Gat, KS, Cherry, Shaman/Nimmer X, and Al
