PvP Newbie

Hi Guys,
I have been playing COH for over a year now (on and off) but have never really got into the PvP thing...
Where is the best place to start? Is it in the PvP arenas or in any of the zones where COH meet COV? I play in the evenings usually, so would like to know the busiest areas for about that time of day....cheers!!

Siren's Call for the most players, Blody Bay for the possibility of some nice, quiet one on one stuff.
Warburg is often empty, it seems, but is a cool map.
If you want to try out PvP tactics or ideas, then are Arena is the best place to go.

Nooooo! the zones are full of numpties a lot of the time...
Come along to the wednesday event on test..( ie the arena ).
The arena generally has people who are more helpful on build/playing advice, and overall the matches are more fun.
And you wont get some fotm spines scrapper proclaiming he is uber and you are teh gimp.

At least you get to fight different people in the zones.
And im not sure about the fun factor.
Nearly 100% of the people I meet at arenas think that PVP only exists at lvl 50.. Ive been mostly disappointed by these 'events' so far.
But yes, be very very careful going to sirens and don't listen to the broadcast too much..
i'm uber your all gimp!

Most people get to level 50 and then PvP because they will be fully slotted with SOs and have a 'final' build. What exactly were you expecting from these 'events'?
Most of the time on Wednesdays its turn up, join the match and get put into a team in a way that seems fair. (Sometimes it does turn out one sided however). Most matches last 10 minutes and then the teams are rearranged, people swap characters and another match starts.
3vP has been interesting so far, being able to team with or against people you wouldn't otherwise have met or had a match with.

How about getting to play at all?
3vP is ok though, mostly because its played at lvl 40. Ruling out 95% of the server population by saying you want lvl 50 only is harsh imo. And some people wonder why theres not much pvpers..
I see where your coming from hammerfall, but i feel that PvP is more balanced at level 50, and therefore more fun.
I think pvp is better without the epic powers :P

If you turned up for a Monday night, that is preset groups of PvPers that have tactics and generally set teams and are the more serious PvPers. Although they do mix and match in their own little groups.
Wednesday night its purely enter the match on your own accord. I've seen level 30s - 50s and there isn't any rules saying no one else can join. I don't know where your getting your xp lol, the Wednesday night thing is on Union btw.
Darn, Im on defiant.. I thought you meant test server at first..

that's a great thread.

In summary, PVP is not fair! You will be mezzed. You will be attacked by multiple opponents, simultaneously. You need to stick together with your teammates. Non-melee ATs (squishies) are targeted first. You will be attacked by opponents you cannot see. Never say anything to the opponents, ever.

I like the part about PVP not being fair the best. The trick to PVP is making the unfair part not happen to you, but to your opponent .

1: I see a Stalker!
2: Where?!
1: There, THERE!
2: Got him, he's trying to kill that Controller
1: FFS!
2: The hell hit you?
1: Stalker saw me coming. :<
Though in actuality if we see a stalker, we usually just kill him. Especially in Sirens where we can do it in two or so hits and don't have things like Retsu to contend with.

I like when it happens. Makes it more of a challenge and when you do happen to come out on top its so much more satisfying. I hate having the upper hand :/

indeed...different people who go on broadcast calling you lame for using breakfrees, say you cheat when you hold them, and generally blub when you brawl kill them.
In the arena you may see less different players, but you will face many different types of AT's, and enjoy differnet game types, and most importantly, PROPER teamwork.
There is absolutely nothing in zonal pvp that can get even slightly close to the fun of pentad, or for that matter, even three man 3vp.

Well for instance getting to fight a scrapper that is NOT regen in arena is very rare event for me..Happened in 3vP yes, but in tourneys you get to play so little PvP compared to the time invested..

Last three times when I have asked for duel in arena channel, the responses have been either "<silence>" or "sorry, Im looking for lvl 50 match". When I go to zones, there are nearly always people there.

yep, this is my opinion, and i fully repect others.
and beating well known good players in zones is great fun too.
However, there are too many 'easy' targets that make zonal pvp too easy. On the RV event i played a level 40 stalker and after my 6th kill after a few mins, i grew bored very quickly.
At least with Arena pvp, you will face a good challenge most of the time.
( the AoW vs Union Overlords doesnt count as that was just a mass kill the squishy fest! )

tbh you have a point there matey, not enough pvp events in the arena for my liking!
However there are these;
Monday nights: Test server ( international )
Wednesday nights: Test Server
Thursdays:3vp
Friday nights: Union only i think
Saturady nights: villains pvp i think?
All kick off around 8pm
Also i think it is important to fill your friends list with pvp lovers if you want to pvp a lot. Most of the guys in my list will drop pretty much anything for the chance of a pvp fight
