Don't forget the distinct possibility of a new AT.

Quote:i don't deny that, but just pointing out that ill/Rad is not the highest DPS Controller combo ST or AoE. Hell, in a GM fight it doesn't get any containment damage at all and still defeated the GM in less than half the time. Reslotting to focus on ST damage is still unlikely to halve the time to defeat the GM since the only thing that allowed even that speed was the -regen which can't be doubled beyond what you currently have and i don't think you could more than double your ST DPS with a different build.A Fire/Ment or anything else that deliberately optimized a ST chain would probably have a competitive time with the Ill/Rad, but that doesn't make it any less impressive. I only worried enough about my ST output to be able to down big game, period, not aim for fast times. For the way I play and utilize my Blaster, having enough ST to down a GM is icing on the cake- Archery is primarily an AOE set. I feel that the AOE output I gain by playing Archery is worth the slower times on big game, once again just being able to do it without outside help is good enough for me. I'm sure eventually I'll optimize my Fire/Ment for the sake of being more competitive for things like this, but for now he collects dust on Virtue while I Rain my Arrows.
And hey, don't make fun of my graphics. My computer is old and sensitive, and he can hear you. (You should've seen how they looked before the card upgrade... ick.)
Also, i have to ask if this means that you want to redefine the Blaster AT as the kings of both damage and debuffing? It's really only the debuff in a single power from a single set that allowed you to defeat the GM, so the only way to make that possible across all Blasters would be to add strong enemy defense debuffs to all Blaster secondaries in either the form of -regen and/or -res. Otherwise optimally built Blasters are still doing barely greater damage than other damage oriented ATs with far, far less survivability, and still far below the performance of lower DPS ATs with stronger debuffs against hard targets. Which makes them barely better than other ATs at a few things and worse, often by a large margin, at everything else.
Your Archery/Mental build is impressive. The problem is that the immediate thought that comes to mind whenever i say that is "For a Blaster." -
Quote:i think what most people have difficulty getting past is that your initial post effectively stated that any added content that isn't what you specifically wanted doesn't count as content. A stance that very easily comes across as arrogant and totally self-centered. Usually when someone starts a thread that way it bodes ill for any sort of constructive dialogue since we're already off to Humpty Dumpty land.I freely admit that I have been Hoist On A Semantic Petard in the title of my original post in that SSAs indeed count as Content.
Fortunately it hasn't proven to be the case, but the OP and title are still rather unfortunately phrased.
Since the Devs have continued to add both regular free content and premium content like the SSAs and iTrials i really don't have much issue with the current status quo as regards content additions. SSA 1 and the iTrials may not completely live up to what i'd hoped to see, but some of the new maps and mechanics that are a byproduct of that development are quite good in their own right and do get propagated to free content as well. Free content that is certainly not guaranteed to have better writing than the SSA anyway. i feel that a fair bit of the SSA wasn't great storytelling, but then some of the free stuff has the same issues.
In short i'm okay with the current approach, but that is from the perspective of a paying subscriber who has access to all of it anyway. -
Quote:What's funny is that since they didn't have an actual image of Apophis they substituted a picture of a comet in its place. But yeah, something like Apophis or similar chunks of rock present the greatest nonhuman threat to the planet's biosphere.Ok so, if we are really concerned about any real doom then here it is, or at least the closest thing to it.
That's something to worry about if you are into that sort of thing.
Quote:Personally I think the end of this world will be brought about when my God becomes angry over this game shutting down and thus me not having any more base updates, and in THAT case this will happen:
You have been warned. -
Quote:i call h4x! Your lower DPS Controller defeated it in less than half the time of the top damage dealing AT!</totallymissingthepoint>But those things get *better* as they add tools, they *start* off pretty good.
Also youtube finally did its thing: Ill/Rad vs Quarry. And in not-too-terrible-on-the-eyes 720HD (the original is about 1040). Gonna see what happens with a proper interface power next.
Nice video, much easier on the eyes. -

To me, this doesn't prove that all Blasters are fine, so people should really stop shoving those words or that sentiment into my mouth (you guys are fond of that one.) It just proves to me that the archetype is able to perform at an expected standard- I know that not every set is perfect.
Sorry, that dog still won't hunt.
Edit: FWIW i liked your video since it's an interesting demonstration, even if it isn't showing what you appear to think it does. -
Quote:Again, none of that is of any relevance to when the Mayan calendar ends. We could use the Hebrew calendar and say that the Mayan calendar ends in the year 5773 (that is to say later this year by our calendar since the Hebrew calendar year of 5772 rolls over to the year 5773 on September 16th). It still happens later this year. You're doing the timekeeping equivalent of running a perfectly valid sentence through assorted Babelfish translations until it becomes gibberish and then asserting that it proves the original sentence was gibberish. Not to sound like a loon here (I know I know)....it has been stated on one of the so called Mayan "doomsday" programs that 2012 has actually come a gone already....the person that came up with the calendar in its present form messed it up and didn't take into account a Roman Cesar who changed his name during his reign....AND DST (daylight saving time) was not adopted in the US officially until 1918, so we have that as well.....
Although personally I will be amused to find that nothing has occured on Dec 22nd of this year and hear all the doomsday cultist whine about how it this that or the other signified something or other.....

Quote:Seriously, are you somewhere between 12 and 14 years old?lol at butthurt Scrappers and gimpy Blasters disliking my videos on Youtube. Way to hide behind anonymity and click the dislike button.
Your arguments in support of your "position"* seem to consist of childish insults, ignoring or distorting what others actually said, and leaving deep grooves all over the playing field as you wildly swing the goalposts about trying to keep anyone from reaching them.
*As far as i can tell your position is essentially "a single primary and secondary Blaster combination with the most min/maxed high end build i can create performs comparably to most other ATs. Therefore Blasters as a whole are perfectly fine as they are." -
Quote:Uh, what the actual year is in our calendar is so irrelevant as to be nonsense. The Mayans had no knowledge of European calendars and they didn't write something like "in the year 2012 of a calendar used by a culture we've never encountered our calendar will end." A calendar's year ends when that calendar says it ends. Some calendars are lunar, some are solar, others could be based on an arbitrary number the creators found aesthetically or culturally appealing. The only assertion present is that Mayan cycle of date keeping will reset in the year 2012 of the Gregorian calendar. We could have arbitrarily decided to make our calendar reset 827 years ago. If we had it would be 827 by our calendar and the Mayan would still end this year.EDIT: BTW I think that if you include the time that leap years take away we are well in 2013 already, so there is no worry about everyone dying off on that day.
Quote:...and where would Stevie be without the media?
His ideas are just that. Ideas. Theories.
Personally i agree with Memphis Bill on this matter.
As for the Mayan calendar ending... Eh, i don't panic when my calendar runs out of days every year. *shrug* Whether from self-fulfilling prophecies or not i do hope something entertaining happens in Mexico later this year. Besides massive gang violence, of course. -
Quote:6 Has someone been slipping lead dust into the Freedom Phalanx's drinks for the last several months or dosing their burgers with low levels of Thorazine?reviews have been discussed elsewhere, the only thing i will say about the first SSA series, is that I liked it and it is well written, but some unanswered questions left open for future content.
1 The Freedom Phalanx is still one man down, two were killed, but only one new member
2 Now that States is out of the picture, will anyone out there become more active, thinking the Freedom Phalanx is now vulnerable
3 While Recluse may not shed any tears for States, what would he do if he found out that Wade is still alive (saying in LR's view it was HIS right to kill States), and out of whatever feelings he had about the death of his niece. Likewise with Ms. Liberty, what would she do if she found out the man who killed her grandfather was still alive.
4. Aurora II, I suspect she is going to be a big feature in futute content, what will be her goals, and how will everything work out with the original Aurora and Calvin Scott( and is he now married to two women?)
5 Is Manticore falling to the dark side?
Seriously, it's like they were all running around with concussions for most of the entire arc with the amount of tactical awareness, planning, and common sense they showed.
New signature supergroup: Feeldumb Flanks. Lead by Positraction with Staysdead, Sistah Psycho, Derpicore, Numa-numa, Sugar Snaps, Ms. Bribery, and, occasionally a member except when he's not, Backdoor Basher filling out the ranks. Seriously though, they didn't act any dumber than most published comic storylines require of their characters when there's a plot railroad to push through to the West coast. Maybe Sistah Psycho will get her One More Day in the next SSA.
More to the point, i have enjoyed running SSA 1 for more than the rewards. There's been some fun set pieces and maps and battles, and even if there's been multiple moments where i facepalmed, it's been a lark as long as you don't take it too seriously. (Something i usually don't have much difficulty with.) i'm really rather interested in where the Scirocco and Red Widow threads go. -
Quote:Cool. i understand that Android can be harder to code for than iOS, but i do appreciate the possibility of an Android version coming out since that's what my current phone uses. Thanks all!
At the start of 2011, I wrote most of the code for an Android version. Only thing really missing was finishing up the UI (and making it not look like a foot)... I determined that the only thing that I've ever worked with that made writing UIs more painful was desktop Java.
I'm pretty sure I still have the code somewhere... I might revisit it, especially since in a couple months I'm going to be having to write some Android apps anyways. :

Okay, might as well spill it, since it looks like it'll be delayed a little bit (woo Google doing upgrades). The feature would be to allow you to select servers to subscribe to, so that the next time they came back up, a notification would be pushed to your phone (nearly) instantly notifying you! Ideal for morning and emergency maintenance!

Oh, and for what it's worth i'm really rather impressed with the faces for the pack too. Dink so far is really beating the pants off of Sexy J in my opinion. (Not literally of course. *shudder*) While that may be at least partially attributable to the engine upgrades since Ultra Mode was added i still consider her my favorite character artist in CoH so far.

Does the chest piece provide a SCUBA gear sound effect?
Does it have blinkenlights? -
Quote:*sigh*It's apparently a list of issue from most improvements to min/max -ing a high level character to least improvement in min/max -ing a high level character. Ties are decided by PvP and original villain archetypes.
...I think. The absence of i13 throws me off. Best guess is that it's so far down it appears on a second page. As for the offical part, well, it's clearly in caps.
Edit: Huh, just noticed the rest of the number spam. Yep, it's a PvP min/max listing.
Because lists of numbers with no context that refer to a little known portion of the game in a format unfamiliar to most is so useful.
Hard to decide whether that's officially stupid or dumb.
However i have decided it's more irrelevant than pointless.
It doesn't even count as trolling, just irrelevant babbling in my opinion. The OP gets full marks for being boring. -
A few funny and unexpected facts:
Capslock by itself doesn't make any thread official.
Making a post so terse that it's very nearly cryptic doesn't help either.
In fact the only way to actually make an official thread is to get the nod from the forum moderators. This thread doesn't seem likely to qualify though. -
Yes. No. Whatever they set themselves to works for me.
-
Well, i have to admit to being a bit disappointed at having Sister Psyche killed off since she was one of my favorite living Freedom Phalanx members. While i've been referring to her as Sistah Psycho for years it was always in an affectionate manner. Mostly.
That, and the in game and metagame circumstances around her death leave me a little dubious as to the storytelling regarding and the need for her death.
There's still plenty of time to pull a Jean Grey or the like with her. Although, this being a superhero themed game, that's really the same as saying she could return any time between now and the servers shutting down. -
Quote:It isn't? And here i thought that losing my ability to see colour was just an example of not quite enough to go blind.Unrelated aside: this reminds me of the time my co-worker tried to tell a guest at a party that color blindness was an inherited trait, and she ended up saying "Did you know color blindness is sexually transmitted?" Wrong, yes, but that's what she said.
i know that some textual errors do eventually get fixed, but it certainly seems that it's not based on how long ago it was first reported. Also, some of the errors are simply mind-boggling to me; as in bizarre homonym substitutions and words with spellings that make the entire sentence nonsensical even if i can work out what the intended word was. In some cases is reads like the person who wrote the sentence not only did not have a spelling checker, they themselves weren't familiar with the word or its meaning when they decided to use it.
Still, as others have pointed out, there's no guarantee that the text entry system makes errors simple to locate or easy to correct. If the game's dialogue entries just show up as cells in a massive spreadsheet it would be a hellish task. Especially since some errors are only obvious in context with the rest of the story.
In any event i'm generally willing to give a pass to odd word usage in NPC dialogue when it's not a homonym or outright spelling errors. Some is even common in day to day speech and writing anyway. (Ex: Using "then" where "than" should be used.) Also, i'm not huge stickler for "proper" grammar where it contradicts common or casual usage. Some grammatical rules vary quite a bit depending on the style guide or the like. Also, some classic "grammatical rules" were routinely violated by the same writers who first proposed them, and i'm not referring to writings predating the proposal of the rule.
i do like the idea of having a compiled list of text errors, but lack the motivation to set it up myself. Still, it might be an interesting project to set up.
- The Paragon Wiki already has most game dialogue organized by contact and story arc, would it be possible to set up a section of the wiki as a listing of textual errors and proposed corrections? That could make it more convenient for both players wanting to submit corrections and anyone at Paragon Studios tasked with making the corrections. It certainly could reduce the duplication of effort and keep a running list of corrections as they're made. Just a thought.
- A minor question for Zwillingandable as well: is the system used for editing in-game text something that an intern or other sort of company appointed proofreader could use to locate text by contact name, story arc title, or possibly even a string search and then easily modify?

Quote:Bull. Unless you're arguing that for the past several years you were just completely unaware of the existence of damage caps and most of the game's combat mechanics and that it's only very recently that you realized that that was actually the only thing that had been wrong with Tankers for all the years you've been insisting that the problem is that the AT isn't both tougher and more damaging than all the other ATs. Anyone who is at all familiar with your posting history would find that extremely straining of their credulity. You have insisted for as long as i can recall you posting anything on the boards that Tankers should be both stronger and tougher than any other AT.Wanna put money on that?
If they brought the Tanker cap in line with Brutes, and didn't you know, go and raise the Brute cap a month later or something, I doubt you'd hear from me on Tankers again. People who've been around long enough should remember I pretty much nagged non stop for Invulnerability to be looked at as much, and when it got fixed I clammed up pretty quick.
But of course to me that bet is still a losing proposition because if I ever complained about anything ever again, you'd point to it as "evidence" that I'm unpleasable, even if you in fact agreed with the complaints. Because you and others really aren't arguing against Tanker offense being fixed, you're arguing against me to create drama.
.
i don't mind this sudden shift and narrowing of focus, but i don't really believe it would last as long as it took the buff to go live if it did happen. Not that my SD/SS Tanker would mind if it happened, but i'm sure you would immediately start pushing for a bunch of other changes in order to make the buff less of an occasional benefit for a few powersets. i mean more than you already have in this *originally-non-Tanker-related-at-all* thread.
However, i really am not concerned about Scrappers either. They kick *** just fine without needing any fancier toys than their original crit ability. -
Sadly enough, shortly that screenshot was first posted i made a short lived tribute/parody character named Sing Sad Song as an Earth/? Controller with a bio that mimicked the writing style of that one but was about how the Earth sang a sad song to him and he sang back by beating up criminals or some such. Like most of my novelty/joke alts he only lasted a few months at most before being deleted.

Without knowing the capabilities or variety of the new AT i would ballpark it at 1200-1600 points.

The Coyote is interesting, but there's an even more appealing transforming travel power coming, so even at the discount i'll give it a pass for the moment. Besides, i'm more of a cat person.
