Unless you're using the word differently than what i'm used to something has definitely changed since the last time i was in PvP. AFAIK mezzes were not made autohit, but no one has any mez protection. i could be wrong though.

For what it's worth i13 did make PvP much less enjoyable for many players. Then again i personally never said that i13 broke PvP, just that it made it more difficult to learn, actually reduced the number of effective AT and powerset combinations, and actually made an entire travel power pool almost useless. PvP wasn't balanced before i13, but in my opinion and the opinions of quite a few others it was no more balanced afterwards, just more frustrating for most players.

i can't promise that i'd PvP a lot if there was a revamp since for me PvP was always a sometimes activity, but i'd certainly give it another shot.

Oh yeah, i logged on just after Z had issued his challenge. Needless to say i couldn't get into the zone or i would've dropped in to say "hi". i don't have any alts set up to be effective in PvP, but i would've had fun anyway. Another time perhaps.

One of the crucial differences between an RPG and a twitch game is that a character's combat prowess is encoded in his stats, not in the player's myelin sheaths. My scrapper should be a badass in combat because that's what's "written down" on his sheet, so to speak, even if I suck at fighting (or fighting games) myself. The moment you make success in PvP too dependent on players having split-second reaction times and mastering finely timed attack chains, rather than character traits and power matchups, it becomes less of an RPG and more of an FPS or twitch fighting game.
i'm guessing you're playing a different PvE game than i am if you think that character stats completely trump player skill and reaction time. (Or on a much lower difficulty level.) There's also the possibility that i tend to play lower level characters than you and/or mostly IO them to the extent required to play faster without worrying too much about making them safer.

So, basically you're saying you prefer the current PvP system. Fair enough, but i really did prefer pre-i13 PvP when characters in PvP played more like characters in PvE.

That and my Dark and Force Field Defenders seemed more useful. Oh, and my teleporting characters actually had a travel power.

i was never a major fan of PvP, but i used to find it fun to team up with friends or just roam around the zone knowing full well that i was unlikely to win any fights, but i could make it very difficult for others to defeat me and greatly increase the risk that someone or something else would get them while they were tangling with me. Mostly on my Dark Miasmist for the latter. Dark has (had?) some rather effective debuffs.

Still, barring an actual reevaluation and revamp of PvP rules i don't expect to enter PvP zones much in the foreseeable future. i can tolerate a few posterior headgarments, but the actual gameplay annoys me.

    STAFF you all!

While the weapon selection does seem a bit small there are some nice staves in the lot. The high tech blade still hits sideways, but many heroes do tend to smack with the flat of a blade to reduce lethality against softer targets, so i guess there's that explanation. For villains i guess it's because it hurts more? i guess.

Anyway, interesting set, but i haven't played it much yet. Later i hope.

That might appeal to a select group of players who like their characters to look as twisted and demented as possible, but it feels uncharacteristically narrow (for CoX) in its thematic scope.
i have to admit that swinging the plasma sword around does look like some sort of scifi weapon. And the smooth, clean shape of the sword is pretty twisted and demented. There's definitely no precedence in superheroes for characters using large or shiny high-tech weapons, but i like it anyway.
The crossbuck is a definite refugee from a train simulator game, and i swear the I-beam and lump of concrete weapon was stolen from Sim City: Toy Story Edition, so i see your point about all the weapons except the axe being refugees from other video games and/or toymakers' nightmares. On the plus side there are more weapons coming for Titan Weapons, but they probably won't be to your taste since at least one has a scifi feel.

  5. i tend to use this bind for announcing my character in various channels:
    /bind shift+enter "beginchat [$name $level <AT/sets/whatever>] "
That way to add the info at the beginning i just hold down shift while hitting Enter as usual and i don't announce the info every time i post in a channel.

For example, my Human-only Peacebringer might announce "[Quantum Ducklord 37 PB no J] What's up all?" by having the text in the brackets be [$name $level PB no J].

Between working full time weekdays, ongoing yard work, going to see a band in Boston yesterday, and hiking up to a castle on a mountain today, well, to be honest if there's been any significant downtime recently it's been entirely at times i wasn't playing. i demand hypothetical compensation for all the times i might've not been able to play if i wasn't doing something else.

Actually, the times the servers do go down when i want to be playing just mean i go do something else for a while. i would actually say it's a net benefit for me to have the servers go down at times when i would otherwise be playing. i demand compensation for all the times the servers were up when i should have been doing something more productive!

Red Fortune's 6 slot bonus is very tempting to those looking to cap ranged defense. Especially if you're using a powerset that usually goes with ranged combat like Force Fields or Cold.

Did I miss patch notes stating that there was a change? Was I imagining that it did do damage in those two missions before, or am I missing something now?

(though as I type this my char is standing in the middle of the lava post-Lemkin, and nothing is happening to her)
It wasn't in any patch notes, but lava hasn't been doing damage for a while now. In my opinion it's a pity since it added more variety to battles. i hope it was because there was some technical issue and not because players occasionally using lava to boost damage to enemies was considered going against intended encounter design and thus everyone had to get herded back onto the rails.

    Baffling.

There's nothing wrong with pointing to the EULA. There's nothing wrong with (correctly) noting that we are not entitled to any compensation for downtime beyond what the PS folks may decide to give or not give us, regardless what any other game (you know better...) might do. Saying these things doesn't make someone a mouth piece, a brown-noser, a sycophant, or disconnected from consumer reality. (Don't bother pointing out that you never said any of the last 3. You don't have to.) Name-calling people who don't see a problem with the PS policies is no better than name-calling people who do. It's still uncivil and unnecessary.
So calling you a yogurt-breathed stork juggler would be out of line? Noted.

One of the main problems with a lot of sets is the lack of a place to put RIP IOs. So many of my suggestions incorporate this.
i'm guessing that you're aware that making standard MM pets unable to slot RIP sets was a deliberate design decision, yes?
The Devs are unlikely to change a powerset's powers solely to allow the slotting of a specific IO set type. You can suggest it, but don't expect it to ever happen.

i somewhat disagree with this. It's pretty much a standard part of MMO design that high DPS can steal aggro from the tank if the tank isn't focused on getting the attgention of the DPSer's target. i think it's perfectly reasonable that if the tank isn't directly attacking and taunting a target that someone else could steal the aggro.

Unless you're talking about it happening against the Tanker's primary target, in which case i pretty much agree. It's also something i haven't seen happen myself unless the Tanker went down. If a Tanker has a target fully aggroed it's nigh impossible to steal it.

Well i don't have many issues with the login/logout myself, but i was just wondering what the button is supposed to do.

Oddly enough my logout delay seems to range from two hours to ten or more. There've been times where i was away for a couple hours with the page open and came back to find myself logged out when i refreshed the page (mostly on my cellphone, so hardly surprising) and at least one occasion where i went to sleep, slept 8+ hours, made breakfast, ate breakfast, ran errands, and then came back to my computer and i was still logged in.
  14. i can see some sort of compensation if the servers were unexpectedly down for more than 12 hours or so, or down more than 25% of the time for a day or more, but a couple hours here and there doesn't really justify it in my opinion.

Regardless that's up to Paragon Studios to decide to do. As pointed out they are not obligated to do so, and compared to the first several years where as a matter of routine the servers were down several days a week sometimes for several hours at a time the current game uptime is excellent.

In my opinion the downtime we've had in the recent past does not really justify any sort of compensation. This is posting as someone who has been a continuous subscriber since late May 2004. YMMV
  15. When logging into the forums next to the user name and password there's a checkbox labeled "Remember Me". i've never noticed any difference between checking it and not checking it, so i'm not sure what function it serves besides giving you the opportunity for an extra button click.
Does it do anything for anybody else?
If it doesn't actually do anything, what is it theoretically supposed to do?

According to reports the base system was coded by someone who left long ago without much documentation and the coding is quite fragile. Most of the time attempts to alter the code result in horrible failures. Because of that any changes to bases are usually fairly small, but apparently there is an ongoing effort to reverse engineer the base system code so that it can be more easily altered or rewritten. At this point most changes and additions are fairly minor and infrequent, however there is the definite possibility of a revamp in the future. How far in the future i have no idea.

(I'm going from memory here, not looking at Mids or the character).

The way I use my Fort is more like a blaster. I go for damage. I can control in a pinch, but so can a Psi blaster (their control powers are almost identical to the Forts). So I go for the blaster comparison. It's not 100% accurate, but it does I think communicate the role of the Fort well.
Fair enough. Admittedly most of my use of controls is single target hold and confuse when soloing, so on teams i do play my Fort more like a more durable softcapped Blaster with Defender level team buffs as well.

Again, my level 50 NW probably doesn't do as much damage as a scrapper. I'd have to double check, but I think base damage is less, and the crits are only from hide, and the crits add 50% damage, not 100% like a scrapper. NW are fun but they're not quite as versatile as Forts imo.
Ah, well my estimate of Night Widow damage was based on a performance comparison thread in the Scrapper forums from about a year ago which mentioned that Night Widows could achieve higher DPS than a Claws/SR along with better defenses and strong team buffs. At the time i did not favorite the thread or copy the exact numbers. IIRC the SoA damage scale is 1.0, so if you combine that with double stacked Assault and the other self buffs apparently it adds up to a respectable DPS.

Night Widows are particularly effective against Carnies, or at least that's been my experience due to the combination of high lethal damage and softcapped positional Defense and strong psionic defenses.
  21. The artwork continues to impress me. Really, really good stuff.

i'll have to submit one of my alts some time.

i have a full on aerial assault Crab who focuses on massive AoE from range and a Huntsman build bane who opens up with AoEs before moving in closer. Both are quite fun for me.

The other SoAs are Fortunatas and Night Widows. NW are like claws/SR scrappers, with less damage but again good team buffs. Forts are Psi blasters with less damage and better personal defense. Both have good team buffs. Both can double up on Leadership like all SoA. Once Mind Link is perma (fairly easy on NW and only somewhat harder on Forts) their team buffs are also pretty much over the top.
Fortunatas are closer to Mind/Psi Doms with powerful team buffs than Blasters in my experience. At least mine uses a fair bit of control in addition to psi blasts and buffs.
And from what i've read well built Night Widows are more like Claws/SR Scrappers with even more damage and good team buffs.

Showing the flaws in such an argument, while ultimately fultine in JB's case, isn't so much about trying to disprove JB to JB (there's always hope though ), its about disproving JB to anyone else that may read and post in this thread.

JB himself has clearly stated that he doesn't agree with Tanker design, doesn't agree with people that like Tanker's designed role, and has bad-mouthed the devs more times than I care to count.

Only the attention that comes most likely won't deliver what he wants in qhich he'll bad mouth the devs some more and continue saying how the Tankers need to be redesigned to meet a standard that only he has personally set for the AT to achieve.
True enough, and that point has been made many times for similar threads in the past, both for J_B's insanity and others with similar behavior, but to give him credit he has succeeded to the extent that i'm not even going to read the posts any more. i'll leave that thankless task to those who don't get headaches when they see someone descend into self-contradicting irrelevancy.
