Remember me. *few hours later* Who?

When logging into the forums next to the user name and password there's a checkbox labeled "Remember Me". i've never noticed any difference between checking it and not checking it, so i'm not sure what function it serves besides giving you the opportunity for an extra button click.
Does it do anything for anybody else?
If it doesn't actually do anything, what is it theoretically supposed to do?

There's an issue with these boards that causes people to be randomly logged out. It doesn't seem to happen to everyone.

The "Remember Me" checkbox generally sets the cookie that contains your user information to be retained for, say, 30 days, instead of only until you close the browser (end the session).

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.

And that currently doesn't work either.

If I check the Remember Me box before logging in then read a few threads and close the browser, when I re-open the browser seconds later my username is NOT remembered. It logs me out each and every time I close the browser.

Something the web team did quite a while back made that stop functioning on any computer I've tried to access the site from, no matter the browser I'm using and no matter if I've ever tried to access the site from that computer before.

I've given up on them being able to fix anything, especially once they decided to implement the 8-hour limit on session logins.

For security purposes, the web team at paragon has decided it's too risky for your personal information to have a forum account (which they made use the same name/pass as your game account, for some reason) to log you out on the following pretexts :

You closed the browser window.

8 hours of open browser window and no activity.

You had a change of IP (This one REALLY bites those checking in on mobile platforms.)

And there is apparently some load balancing server feature that will cause random log-outs if you get sent to the wrong server after logging in on the other (or something like that) This is what causes the log-in to be logged-out tick.

Which for me has always marked the whole forum as read, and is the only way it marks the forum as read without me having to do Forum Tools - > Mark Read followed by "log out" - any

For me, it's pretty much come to the following as far as the various forum login/logout issues are concerned:

You get auto logged out after 8 hours of no activity? That can't be true, because I frequently don't have to log in again the first time I get on in a day. Then again, that could just be broken as well...

One thing I've noticed is that following a link from Google to the boards has a high probability of logging me out (I've the Villains theme set, so blue = logged out). Not 100% though, so it might be a perception bias thing (I just tested it and wasn't kicked off).
