    Good ok that worked.

Here's a thing that's been bugging me and I've not seen much documented - searching here and the Paragon Wiki.

Romulus Augustus and Romulus the Warshade.

It strikes me that both those gents are far too alike to be considered separate entities - and then it occurred to me that many of Rommy Augustus' crew look like Longbow in Lorica. That was a kind of a "hmmmmmmmmmmmm" moment.

Given that when we first encounter Mr Augustus he's helping out the nasty fascists, it's ok for heroes to beat him up but somehow he seems to evolve into one of the good guys, or has be been duped somehow? Could this be some kind of "false flag" scenario - where he (or maybe even we) believe that we are working for one crew but in fact are unwittingly working for another?

Info about it seems very scant. Is there a resource that I've missed or are we simply left to speculate, or did Rommy buy Going Rogue a couple of [thousand] years earlier? (and how long did eh have to subscribe to do that?)

"Chillin' Villains Bail Bonds. Heroes put 'em in. We pull 'em out!"

WHAT?!? So who are the real villains here? IT MUST ALL BE A NEMESIS PLOT!

It must also explain why the Hellions have still not dissappeared completely after more then 5 years, no?

It's always the Faceless Ones the men in grey suits who pull the strings, behind the scenes, without their hands ever being revealed.

Villains could get a new "safe" region within FBZ (which would probably get renamed in the same way that the Rikti Crash Site got renamed) and a series of mole points to mirror the heroside ones so that both sides aren't attempting to use the same transit system (except for the Hortha Vines, which are naturally occuring). FBZ and the villside version would need content updates to provide actual story arcs and probably something to introduce a new zone-by-zone competitive resource gathering thing that shifts access to certain shops/special missions from one side to the other.

In order to explain away heroes fighting villains, you wouldn't need Vanguard: you could always just use Rularuu himself. Simply explain that conflict between heroes and villains would attract the attention of Rularuu, which would interfere with the plans of your side. Since the devs have pretty much stated that Lord Recluse doesn't give a damn about the Shadow Shard, it could just as easily be something run by AeonCorp in order to exploit the weirdness of the shard and Aeon doesn't want Rularuu coming by to ruin everything.

The Shard has always been one of the most interesting zones in the entire game. I've seen no other zone in any other game that really matches the sheer uniqueness and depth of story that is present in the Shard. The Shard TFs (aside from Quaterfield) expose a detailed and well written story with ginormous potential just sitting there. The Shard is something that no other game, much less anything else in the super hero genre really has anything to accurately compare to it. It's the perfect thing to emphasize, especially with a new competitor coming out within the next year.

Good points and it does give the game that extra-dimension feel that the comicbooks have.

One thing the Devs could exploit more is the Darrin Wade arc, where Darrin (I'm not quoting verbatim so I may be incorrect) says at the end he serves Rularuu and is attempting to bring him back.

That clearly leaves the door wide open for Villains access, but it'd have to be managed carefully to prevent it being just another empty PVP zone.
  6. I often use Galaxy as a starting zone especially for concept toons I want to get a feel for. Get there at lvl 2 and run around til lvl 5 and I'll have at least half an idea if I'm gonna stick wtih the guy.

I think on Union there's a lot of RPers meet under Galaxy Girl
  7. I don't know why travelling the shard is a problem, given that the jetpacks are so readily available.

I would love to see the shard get a makeover... but I can't help feeling the Cathedral of Pain put paid to that.
  8. This is fantastic! I hope you create some kind of blog to keep us all posted about it! Love the idea and wish you the best of success with it!

After reading the forums, I definitely get the sense that you're feeling neglected. I also understand that some of you have very specific issues and questions about the expansion box, servers, and the general "forgottenness" and that you want answers. So, that's why I'm here.

Since I'm not part of the publishing or marketing aspect of the game, I don't have the insight or knowledge required to answer your questions directly, but I've been bugging people about this (especially lately) because I don't want you to think that your voices aren't being heard. I did want to make sure that I had a direction before posting, even if it was to say, "not yet." So, ehm, not yet. <g> I don't have any answers for you right now, but - like I said - I'm working on tracking some down for you.

However, while I'm playing the role of pitbull and poking my nose where it doesn't belong, if you have any questions about why I love Europe so much, what my favourite chocolate bar is, or why Canadians are so awesome, ask away. That way, I can keep you periodically entertained while we wait. So give me time to get the "official" answers (this won't happen overnight), but know that as soon as I know something, I will pass it on to you.

    Hi WW

Thanks for replying, but I'm personally worried more by this response. Given that Avatea originally posted here on 23rd February to tell us that she'd make the people who need to know aware of our feelings, it's taken almost a month for any more info and now it's “No news.”

That's worrying – that either you can't get, or perhaps more precisely are unable to give – any kind of answer. It's concerning because either marketing or publishing or the “Faceless Ones” aren't allowing that information out.

Look at it this way: If our concerns are unfounded, then why not just say “It's cool, everything's fine.” If everything is fine, why have the Faceless Ones not allowed that to be said? For me, it's telling that you cannot say that, and chocolate & kittens are all very fine, but it rather deflects from the point that we have been feeling very neglected. For me at least, your post has confirmed, rather than allayed, my fears that the EU is about to go the way of Korea.

I do appreciate that in any business there are things that must be dealt with internally before being permitted into the wider public domain but the impression I'm getting here isn't a positive one.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong because I love this game – and I love how passionate you guys who bring the game to us are for it, and for the community – but that doesn't mean we're going to be ok, and nobody – not even you – have been able to tell us that we are.
  11. Can you complete my Arachnos mish - there's a guy stuck outside the map. I'll have a couple of pints and a packet of crisps while I'm waiting please!

Correct me if im wrong but arent the majority of the main heroes on some kind of "level" with the government? [By which i mean, they dont set out to p**s them off]

That depends on whether you're there to "fix" problems that the state isn't, which is typically what a vigilante is about. If the police and associated authorities are failing to combat crime, for example then the individual steps outside of the law to correct a perceived failing in "the system."

In the Marvel Universe, most people believe Spider-Man is a villain because of the press power of J. Jonah Jameson, and in a real world situation most right thinking people would be appalled if a masked vigilante took to the streets and acted as de facto judge, jury and executioner.

A vigilante cannot "arrest" anyone legally because the rights of the arrested individual could be said to be severely abused (not to be confused with a Citizen's Arrest.)
  16. The real answer is that the media would do what the media does: Push its own agenda to make money, and that would be at the expense of meta humans who would be treated like celebrities in one sentence and the scum of the earth in the next. Never let it be said that the media ever let the facts get in the way of a good story

At the time, Kheldians were designed around two assumptions: (1) by the time you unlock Kheldians, you know how to play the game, so it's okay with you if we make it harder, and (2) by the time you unlock Kheldians, you've been playing for at least 450 hours, which means that it's very likely that you have plenty of friends to team with you, so it's okay if we hand you an archetype that's only barely playable solo, that gets an average stats boost of 25% or so across the board from being on a big team. I don't think that's going to be true for the vast majority of the people who unlock Kheldians at level 20. At level 20, attribute modifiers have barely kicked in. At level 20, you don't even have your character in single-origin enhancements. At level 20, you've unlocked only 11 of the 18 powers in your primary and secondary powerset; you don't even have a feel for how one character plays, let alone how the whole game's game mechanics work.

I understand the impulse. Right now, the target for "hours to 50" is 250 hours. Someone who plays the industry-average 22 hours a week has to look at people who are "more privileged" than them for almost three months, for three months they have to ask "why can't I play a shapeshifter?" and "why can't I play an Arachnos soldier?" If they have alt-itis (and this game really encourages alt-itis), it could easily be a year or more; it's not uncommon to hear some people say that they didn't get their first 50 for two years.

And there's a practical argument for making Kheldians and Arachnos as common as dirt: the 2% of the player base that plays those characters are screaming for upgrades and improvements (well, to some of the combos), and if you were the lead designer, you'd have a hard time justifying spending big money on a game system that will only affect half a percent or one percent or even 2% of your customers. If you want to see Peacebringers or Warshades or Soldiers or Widows get some developer attention, there need to be a lot more of them. This would do that.

Me, I'd set it at 40, not 20. But I can live with it.
I agree with most of this but I can't help feeling there'll be something else coming at a higher level. It's only a hunch but I suspect the thinking is to have them unlocked much higher would make them too close to whatever else we're getting.
  19. Some good points. Its age is also working against it - it's a 6 year old game and is perceived as old hat by many of the non-players. With an expansion that's at least one year too late and a lack of competent marketing there's little chance of CoH ever making back into the limelight for any sustained period.

That's pretty much how a human-form peacebringer plays, and it's also just about the only viable build for a bane spider. I say "sort-of" (for both) because they do both have glaring weaknesses that require some effort to overcome.

Human-form peacebringers have no native mez protection, so if you get mezzed before you reach the enemy with your melee hold, or if your melee hold misses, you end up in a world of hurt. Groups with multiple mezzing minions, like Tsoo and Malta, are why I actually built the character as human/dwarf, dedicating enough slots to the dwarf-form attacks that I can slog my way slowly through any such mission. But that, plus four-slot frankenslotting my single-target heal for heal/recharge, makes for a character that can scrap, blast, off-tank, and heal ... quite fun, truthfully, and you may like it.

I had to take Tough on my bane spider just to be able to solo on low difficulty, because of the unpleasant irony that is being a melee fighter who is weakest against incoming melee attacks. But once I did, I had a character with a great single-target attack chain, almost equally good at range and in melee, with a reliable ranged single-target hold, good selection of pets available in the late game for things like tougher elite bosses but not dependent on them for regular play, and very welcome on teams for the Tactical Training buffs. (Although if I'm going to be doing nothing but large-group teaming, I switch to my huntsman alternate build, all ranged, nearly all AoEs. But I have yet to have any team complain about my build if I didn't bother.)

Neither one is truly squishy, and both are entirely functional at either melee range or at longer range, and they both solo and team equally well. They also have the amusing property of filling multiple roles in Hamidon raids, since they can help melee the yellows, help range the blues, and help hold the greens. You may want to try them to see if they suit you.
a stock widow is closer I'd suggest

The OP does have a point I believe in that a newbie who doesn't necessarily get the finer points of IOs and the markets (and it can take a while for a new player to get that) does find it very daunting. I know this from personal experience when teaming or talking with friends who play and are new to the game... they see how much inf they actually have and they see how much even a basic recipe costs and their jaw drops.

It's not necessarily a mechanical flaw, it's a question of managing expectations - but I don't think the OP has found a workable or worthwhile solution to the problem.
  22. Some things that have worked for me in the past:

Initially use standard IOs of around level 40-45 (depending on build) then once you're happy that you've got a good build you can start replacing the IOs with set IOs instead. I would strongly advise that you are happy with the build before you spend a lot of money on a set - because if you subsequently buy 6 of one set then decide you only need 4 you may well lose a lot of inf that way.

Also Architect Tickets can give some very good random recipe rolls on the Bronze table, that you can either use, or sell to fund the build.

Reward merits are also useful but you can specify the specific IO on that so that allows you to plan your build.

I would say that you probably don't need to even consider Purple recipes at this stage. If you get one, sell it (it's often worth crafting it first - check prices) rather than using it yourself.

As has already been mentioned you seem in no hurry and I don't know how much you play but do what gives you the most enjoyment. Feel free to "mix and match" - there's no "right build" so Standard IOs, sets and Frankenslotting can work on the same toon. Whatever works best for you.
  23. Ultra Mode! Looks great doesn't it?

Marketing - or the lack therof - is not a function of the Devs. Personally I believe that the Devs and the CC staff understand our concerns but their remit means this is out of our hands. Thus to say they are "realli crap" as you so eloquently put it is excessively unfair.

The frustration is that as PAYING CUSTOMERS we have very few other methods of venting our frustrations.

Maybe we should all buy shares in NCSoft
