  1. It's that time again – the perennial battle for the world's oldest international sporting trophy. The battle for “The Ashes” recommences after a few years of see-sawing momentum that has seen two great rivals take part in some of the most amazing sporting contests ever.

For those of you who aren't familiar, the Ashes is a bilateral cricket competition fought every 2 years between England and Australia – first at home, then away, and there's a fiercely competitive, yet (mostly) friendly rivalry that few other international contests manage to match. But then with over a century of competitive history that's maybe not so surprising.

This series is going to be five Test matches, commencing this Thursday at 00:00 GMT or 10:00 am Local at the “Gabbatoir” graveyard of many a visiting team in Brisbane and the tension amongst almost all cricket fans – regardless of national allegiance – is palpable.

So in honour of this great contest, in City of Heroes, we'll celebrate with 5 tests of our own, in the PVP arena – one for each Test Match, kicking off at the end of each day's play – so we can share the rivalries of the first three sessions and engage in friendly banter as we have at it in various team events.

The icing on the cake is the way in which the CoH costume creator enables you to make highly realistic cricketing “whites” so choose your colour: Baggy Green or Royal Blue to represent the Aussies or the Poms and make a cricketing themed costume. Then come join us for a couple of hours of Mayhem kicking off this Thursday at 9pm GMT (which if I've worked out correctly should be 7am in Brisbane) on Defiant Server. (We'll alternate the EU English servers so everyone can get a go.)

Avatea has kindly offered some gold titles for the event and there may even be other prizes for the overall winners (subject to confirmation) so come and join us for an in game laugh from 9pm GMT in Pocket D on Defiant. All A.T's welcome and any level.

For those of you who want to know more about the Ashes here's a brief look
  2. yeah dunno why I didn't think Vanguard Merits... I must've had a brain fart or something. Gives us something else to use merits on
  3. I'd really like to see one of these, something that can take you to the Vanguard base in RWZ from wherever you are in the game, similar to the Base or Pocket D powers

Maybe it could be a craftable temp power or something but it strikes me as being quite useful.

Without reading every post here - I've not seen this posted as a response but here's a bit of a thought from a devil's advocate.

If you post a build and it's not very good - not everyone is comfortable with Mids - there's a bit of a tendency with many to not mince their words and in some cases use the /em pointandlaugh response. That's not so uncommon - and if you are of a sensitive disposition can have a far more negative impact than the respondents intended.

So perhaps, just maybe, people who want a build aren't confident enough in their own abilities to design a build and are perhaps a tad fearful of perceived ridicule.

    1. Free transfers at the end of the Winter Event in January.
    2. Then the Spring Event.
    3. Then Issue 17 and Ultra-Mode.
    4. Then the Going Rogue Pre-Purchase with early access to two new power sets.
    5. Then Issue 18 and Going Rogue itself with more free transfers.
    6. Then the Halloween Event.
    7. Soon to be released I19.
    8. Shortly after that the next Winter Event.

I'll take a year like this last one over a 2xp weekend anytime.
    Well said.

Generally DXP weekends have been to reinvigorate the game when there's been a lull in activity. We've had so much going on this year that there's been no need.

And even without AE, it's quick enough to level just playing normally these days.
  7. Same here. It logged me out just going from one page to another.

It's getting so these forums are pretty useless what with stupid rules and crappy software

    COH cyber monday

Great idea... providing the online store bloody works!
  9. so this thread is turning into "What do you want to see in CoH2?"
  10. you're just arguing about synoptics now
  11. Eeez not a rat, eeez a hamster

    Que?
  12. I can't imagine Manticore being able to keep secrets from Sister Psyche simply because of her power.

I guess she forgave him for that incident with the lemming and the rhinoceros O_o
  13. Very pleased to see the EU getting a half-price deal. Thankyou for that.

Now just sort the bloody online store out so we can buy the stuff!
  14. Fantastic.

Sad to see you're giving up the CoH promos. They were far superior to anything Paragon Studio put out.

And no, I really don't think it's a coincidence that they went with something very like that for CO.

I also would have preferred a point-based build system over level-based advancement.

The initial vision for this game was designed to be free form and it didn't work. It didn't work when the original creator tried to make an alternative system.

Superheroes should be anything that you can imagine, so I disagree with your tankmage statement - the whole point of heroes is they can do stuff differently often with limited resources.

Note, that is not a rhetorical "I disagree with you" question. I play on the U.S. servers and so don't see it from your side. How has this impacted you?

Very simply; fewer servers (and thus slots) to choose from and a much smaller community to engage with. There are just two English speaking servers in the EU, plus one French and one German. Realistically I can only play on 2.

I have some good friends who play on the US servers. Without paying for a 2nd account - which is not economically viable (and why would I want to start from scratch anyhow?) there is no way for us to engage in the game.

You might not feel this impacts you - but it certainly impacts me and many of my friends. There's a fundamental inequality - but in terms of game play and cost.

Finally, the ability to engage on a wider basis with everyone who plays this game would benefit everyone.
  18. Not split the game into US and EU.

That was a far bigger mistake than ED and still hurts a lot of the community.

  20. Badges: They need to be listed in a much more user friendly way. Even alphabetically by type would be an improvement to the mishmash we have now.

Recipes: I've MADE THE LOST CURING WANT! I DO NOT NEED ANOTHER! Get it off of my list or at least get it out of the way.

Temp Powers: Why so many? They just take up valuable recipe space.

  23. I've noticed there's a change in lag since we had our servers relocated.

It seems to me there's a direct correlation to automobiles.

When we had the servers in Germany, the lag was like a BMW: Everyone had one and if you didn't you wanted one and it was high quality, and lasted forever.

Now they're moved to the USA the lag is like a Chevrolet: Badly constructed and consumes shedloads of bandwidth, but never lasts long.
  24. Nice guy... good luck to him! He'll make the role a success.
  25. I do get what you're saying but I think it depends on the players.

Choice isn't necessarily a bad thing - and as others have mentioned, it depends on your concept for the character.

If you're an inherently min/maxer type player you will possibly use the I19 changes to squeeze every last bit of squee from your toon - or if you buid a toon for the concept that may not be the most efficient, you'll design into it the powers that it needs to fit the concept.

Personally, I've always enjoyed the low level content (well not the snakes on CoV) and haven't ever had a problem with is so this isn't radically going to change my game - but it will mean I don't need to wait quite as long to get the powers I wanted
