    see you guys Saturday!
  3. Saturday 19th is Union's Billion Inf costume competition, brought to you by the EERC.

The time is 8pm the place is Pocket D on Union and the theme is "Spring" (make of that what you wish )

So let's see you put your costumes skilz to good use and catch you at 8pm GMT and we'll watching you strut your stuff and some of you will be trotting off with a whole bunch of inf!
  4. I'd certainly agree it's the journey, when it comes to this game - but of course it does kind of depend on what the destination is. For some of my toons, getting to 50 is enough and some got to 50 and got deleted. For others it's experiencing all the content in the game possible. The "goal" for me is fluid at best. Often I'll simply roll a toon and see how it feels.

But I definitely have never rolled a character just to get to 50 or to purple out or some such nonsense. This game isn't about the rewards for me, it's about the social experience and the fun that comes with it

So since you don't care I assume you will change your name to US_<whatever> to save the poor EU bloke that has the same global name as you?
Clearly some compromise needs to be made if two people share the same global.

To say the Devs don't care is clearly wrong. The list merge is of far greater benefit to the EU players than the NA players and in real terms it's taken about 18 months since the forum was united for this to be announced. If they didn't care, they wouldn't merge the list!

I'll just remind you that initially all board members had either NA or EU appended to their name if it was shared - that has been fixed. Personally I trust the Devs to come up with something that will work it out for everyone.

That's the problem - I love Praetoria for the place and for the 1-20 content but the whole Incarnates thing is sucky IMO.
  7. Yay for another power customisation thread
  8. I've been thinking about the character creator

I am blatantly comparing it to another life that I have a second character in, and for a game that prides itself on its character creation, the skin aspect jars increasingly with my senses.

Skin, in this game, is poor putting it mildly.

Let's put this into context. I'll give you some numbers. If I chose a Hat option for my characters, I can chose 44 different hats. I can choose 160 primary colours and 160 secondary colours. That's just for hats

That comes out at 1,124,400 different colours and combos for hats

I have 70 different skin tones. That's it

    70

When I choose my skin, I get to choose my colour. I don't get to choose the skin. That's a layer above. My skin is pre-chosen and it's left for me to choose a colour.

So there are some layers that may pass as skin and they are ok. Metallic, and robotic and others are ok but they fail in the skin layer because they clash or may be subtracted.

Oh, my detractors may say "You can choose a chest later as a Robe and then choose Chitin as a skin layer" but that fails. How can I make my face chitin? How can I make my character wear an open jacket and a low cut singlet and still have a quartz skin? It's not possible as the game stands. And frankly what I propose is probably quite a bit of back end engineering.

But then so was power customisation, and so is animated hair.

I want a character with a liquid metal skin, kinda like Terminator but maybe not so shiny. I want a rose quartz skin. I want a stone tank who really IS stone who has a skin of polished granite that reflects the environment like the windows of Praetoria. Why should a stone tank only ever look like stone when in armour?

Why can I not have a character made from terracotta? If it's good enough for an Emperor's army why can it not be good enough for me?

Instead all I get is a choice of 70 (mostly insipid) colours that don't actually reflect what my character is about. Sure, if I want to play a natural human - and I admit they enable diverse ethnic backgrounds - then cool. I can do that. But that's to miss a point.

I can have a shiny or a matte top. Why can I not apply that to my skin? I cannot get an aura that will fix that becuase it's an additonal layer. It doesn't make my skin any better.
Sure I can be an African or a European or an Arab with the skins colours - and the faces mostly accomodate that. But why not an Echoriate who reflects your life in their presence?

Matt Miller (Positron) said once that we literally had billions of costume options. We only have 70 for skin. That's limiting
  9. I've not read every post cuz many of them seem to have gone off topic but I like how the OP is thinking

Gilgamesh is the first named human - and has a place in legend as a person who is not simply legendary but also historical - and there are very few others who can claim that right.

I dislike the incarnate story very much but at least involving a demi-god like that you can bring it back into a sphere I like

    Dear Mods/Devs

This doesn't affect me since I don't have an NA account - but to be serious for a moment, would it not be somehow possible for those who have both to be able to petition and get one of their global names changed to avoid a clash in advance?
  14. We've got a billion inf giveaway on Union this saturday. Pocket D 8pm. The theme is "Spring!" (make of that what you will... high tensile metal coils, seasons, pressurised water.... you decide.

After that we've got a few events lined up which will definitely include cossie codes and more, but that's for the next few weeks

There were spaces. Ok thanks. I'll experiment with that but I've got a more pressing issue right now...

I had thought that's what I did but I got something along the lines of "requires one argument you have given 5" (and for the life of me I couldn't work out what the 5 were?) That's what I meant by having syntax issues.

From my reading of the wiki, I thought there was a way to specify the path and the file name but I'm clearly wrong.

What would be cool would be to save different layouts for different toons/builds that could be loaded to meet differing needs. Is that doable?

It should be that simple. It will change your characters' window colors all to the same color though.

Thanks guys that seems to work. What I was trying to do was give it a name with a path and it wasn't working. But this seems to do the job so many thanks
  18. ok to clarify, I've got several windows in non-standard positions and non-standard sizes. I'd like to save those windows at their present size, and in their set location - but I'm not seeing any buttons or way to set everything exactly in the right place.

I've tried saving the file but that didn't seem to work either so I'm puzzled

    /em headscratch
  19. I'm running quite a high resolution on my screen and I want to uniform my windows across my account.

I've been looking to do that using the WDW File Structure but I'm missing something. I need to set different windows to different sizes and I'm struggling to work out the exact syntax.

I have tried to create a WDW Save_file but I'm clearly not getting it right. If I'm understanding things correctly it should be possible to create a named file (but there may be issues with window positions initially) that I can load across my account.

    Any suggestions?

Precisely why I suggested it's optional or unlockable or purchasable. Just like the additional 4 costume slots are options, you may not be interested in them - but others might. I definitely would want some extra slots on one or 2 characters. On others I don't. But having the option's important to me

One of my characters has a masked mode, a maskless mode and a "battle damage" (smoking aura+ "smudges" +torn costume bits) that I'll jokingly switch to after a particularly bad battle. That's three "costumes" in the game, but equivalent to just one costume in a comic book theme. Add a "civilian mode" for a character and you're at four already.

Or maybe you want to do the classic 'costume modification' for a specific situation? You see them more when they're trying to sell action figures (battle armor batman, undersea batman, arctic defense batman... change batman to spiderman, superman, or ironman at your desire). A tech themed hero might realistically equip himself differently-- even if it is just superficial in-game-- when facing the elemental attacks of the Outcasts compared to the gear needed for Carnies.
Very good point. There even seems to be an appreciation that you may wish to do this in the costume creator with some variants of goggles being worn "up" or "down"

That does raise a question about the Dev's missing a trick with Praetoria and making most Loyalists decide Cole really is a complete tosser and heading to Primal Earth to join forces against him, and a few thinking "we're better off with him" and sticking around? That wouldn't prevent any player going to the Isles to make their own path but keeps the story a lot more interesting.
