Defeat the coming storm, make peace with the Rikti, put nemesis to bed, then discover a bigger foe that comes from out of the blue and fights to stalemate - trapping us in our own dimension but they are unable to break in. So effectively, Paragon and surrouding area becomes a little homogeneous bubble... "our work here is done, let's keep it this way" fade to black

I've tried to use Demorecord to save some of my favourite toons for posterity (and maybe make a movie or two) but I just can't make it work
I've followed the instructions in the ParagonWiki to create a shortcut for the client launcher and give it a tag at the end of the target, and I've even trued using Sloth's CoHdemolauncher2 but nothing seems to work
I'd be really grateful for any help - I'm running Win7 and a GTX460 with 8 gigs of ram so should be ok - but this one has me confuzzled -
Controllers. I really found them to be exciting, original and really really versatile. A troller doesn't necessarily need good damage but I've rarely found any that are bad to play or difficult to keep going under tough circumstances. Even better, it's always been really great to put together odd mix trollers just to be different from the ubiquitous fire-kin/rads. My Mind/Storm was an accidental revelation.
Scarlet Shocker. All Electric Blaster. She was my first (well technically 2nd toon) but she's the one I've had the biggest emotional connection to in game. In many ways, being all electric she was well under-powered, even moreso when electric proliferated. But she wasn't ever meant to be Uber. I always saw her as trying to fight the good fight with a limited arsenal and struggle was the name of the game for her.
Possibly Tank (surprisingly as I only have one) but I do still enjoy playing my one and only 50. I always struggled with melee toons, even after getting a brute to 50, and scrappers never seemed to work for me. Run around chasing targets to find that somebody's blasted them and knocked them out from under... but whereas Scrappers in my limited experience are squishy, and brutes under-powered, my tank can soak up a lot of damaged and still dent most things. If not a tank my SoA - but I enjoyed him from day one so by definition doesn't count. -
I might give this a try - F2P sounds like we can get a good flavour for it to see if it's worth the sub

That was really well done but...
I've given up. I've been dealing with plenty of challenges in my life and losing CoH, however dear it is to me, is one challenge that I don't honestly have much energy to spend on right now.
I guess it's not so much "given up" as a recognition that NCSoft is a completely unreasonable corporation that has no interest in it's loyal customers. It clearly feels that we're not important and so it made it's decision and then reaffirmed that decision on Oct 2nd, and now it will take a cataclysm to make it change that perspective.
All we can do now is move on to other games or spend any energy we have left dealing with NCSoft and it's board in whatever way we decide is most appropriate. -
Quote:When I interviewed War Witch at Omega Sektor, she told me that the devs hoped for CoV to be rated 12 to match CoH - but once the appropriate people viewed the content, to check it's rating "they took one look at Dominatrix' minions and said SIXTEEN!"If the game is rated based *purely* on the promotional artwork, then the ESRB rating is *not* doing its job.
It should be based on the content of the game.
If there are rules and regulations concerning what you can and cannot show for promotional artwork, then that is it. *shrugs*
To be honest, I would be more worried if they were shooting for the "T for Teen" rating and trying to do this by the method that you are suggesting. However, as far as I am aware, they are aiming for the "M for Mature" rating, and if that still has rules and regulations in terms of what you can and cannot show in promotional artwork, then so be it.
Complain to the ESRB board about that problem. NCsoft are just following the rules.
Clearly they do check the content and if one slips through the net then I'm sure some reportage would get NCSoft slapped. -
Those aren't breasts by the way. The main plot of that game seems to involve ninja zeppelins stabbing young women from behind

Looks like the news hasn't gone down so well

Quote:Brilliant. I never really used the arrow much - but I can see what you mean. Having the goggie catch the frisbee would've been fantastic. But I love how you guys were thinking with that. Essentially a really cool delivery system.I am not a Dev.
1) I can't say specifically for Ouro portal, but the term "Temp Power" rapidly grew beyond what it originally meant, and became a catch-all phrase for any power that we wanted to grant to players outside of Power Sets. For example, Ninja Run. There were plans to better organize these so they'd be easier to access.
2) It was a fun idea that I had after seeing what Black Scorpion did with the Holiday Gift Giving temp power (there it is again), and soon after, the Cupid Arrow. If you think about it, all three powers work the same way. That is, create a power that makes it look like you're hitting another player, and then have the player react as if they were hit.
A few folks (not me) around the studio were pretty hardcore about Ultimate Frisbee, including the director of development, who wanted some way to incorporate it into the game for a while. It dawned on me that we could reuse the gift giving tech to create a Flying Disc power. It was always meant as a fun item, nothing more. Which isn't to say that the tech itself was frivolous, far from it.
We did want to set it up so that the German Shepherd pet could interact with it, but stuff happened.
Quote:When the OPortal was first being developed, it was a true Temp Power -- something you needed to regain every now and again. Relatively early in the process, it was decided that was stupid and it should be permanent. During that transition, it should have been moved from Temp Power to Accolade...but I didn't think of it at the time.
So, mea culpa.
I was concerned (hoping?) that somehow we'd get to the end of the whole "coming storm" thing and that Ouroboros would become redundant and the clue was that the power was a temp. My thinking was Mender Silos would say something like "Ok, you saved the universe and the future, so we're going back to the present to continue messing with your heads" and "whoosh" no more Ouro portal (but we'd probably have a universal TP system to places we wanted to go by then.) Either that or maybe Silos himself was a bad guy and we'd have to deal wtih him, and in the process, Ouroboros would be destroyed. You can imagine the glee I felt when Paragon let the teasers of the Destroyed Ouroboros images free - I was like "YESYESYESIKNEWIT" and then I was like "OHBOLLOCKSIWASSOWRONG"
Thanks for chiming in there chaps -
However hard I've looked, I can't see anything in those numbers that says there's a hope in hell for CoH to get rescued. In fact it seems to inidcate that even the Save CoH campaign's been nothing but a slight annoyance.

I often wondered if it was simply a case of making it a temp power because that was the easiest. What backs that up in many ways is the fact that the whole Powers UI had devolved into a right mess over the years and was in dire dire need of a clean up and never got it - and there were several calls for it. So either the Devs didn't see it as a priority (unlikely) or it was a bigger job to fix than any potential benefit.
I'd love to get an official word though just... I dunno. It's something that's always bugged me.
As for the disk, I would have loved to be able to use a similar delivery system for MM upgrades and placing of thinks like land mines and poison traps. Target a patch of ground and throw them there. -
Quote:The only way in which I can think of is that it was just how it was given out. It was basically a mission reward (or a badge award... depends on how you did it), so it just got allocated to that *growing* collection.
Other powers get allocated differently though - so a temp power seems more deliberate than accidental
Quote:How can you have the flying disc?
I need it for Capitaine Disco...
It's on the marketplace - if somebody throws one to you, you get a one time use version -
Ok out of all the revelatory stuff coming out there are two (not terribly) critical questions that have bugged me for a while and I'd really love to get answers to them.
- Why was the Ouroboros Portal a Temp Power? I know I've asked this before but it struck me that there's an implication that somehow, Ouroboros was going away some time. In one view, that makes perfect sense. Once the Coming Storm had been dealt with Silos had no need to keep the floating palace - but of course it would have removed a very convenient travel power, and a place to buy/sell cool stuff.
- Flying Disc: Was this a test of a new tech? What was the likely outcome going to be? New powers? It seemed to be a lot of work for a toy (but fun to use when queued for Trials) Where were the Devs hoping to go with that?

Star Wars IV was just a rip of every conceivable movie genre, from westerns, to Warplane movies, to Sci-Fi to gangsters, swashbuckling etcetc all thrown together into a big melting pot and a massive budget. It wasn't very original, and not very good, just glossy.
From there on it went downhill. -

Ok so those of you know me may be aware that amongst other things I do, I'm an Internet DJ. There... I said it.
I spend much of my time spinning cool tunes in virtual environments such as Second Life and tonight, since we have a special occasion to dress up, and there are now officially 30 days to go till lights out, I thought I'd spin a superheroic set to celebrate this great game, both in Second Life and in game.
So from 9-11pm GMT (2-4pm Pacific, 5-7pm Eastern) I shall be entertaining you with a musical journey. We'll have some eclectic grooves, some jazzy vibes, the odd theme tune and some downright strang - plus a bit of soul, funk and even rock. Something for everyone and a party from all and even some music from the game itself.
You're all invited, and I'll be blasting the tunes out from Atlas on Defiant Server and in Second Life so wherever you fancy joining us you're welcome. (If you care to join us in SL you can find us at this location: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlif...sland/91/94/29 - superhero costumes encouraged, but not mandatory - look for a cyborg DJ called Riff)
See you then I hope and tune in here: http://66.45.227.195:8542/ and let's celebrate over 8 fantastic years with two hours of great tunage!

Quote:I don't believe Plan Z will really get anywhere - I think people are being very unrealistic.
I think you're being very narrow minded.
There is one helluva lot of energy committed to the SaveCoH campaign but until the servers get turned off, then most of the energy is being spent on getting a stay of execution.
However, once the servers do go dark - as looks increasingly likely, then that energy will be turned towards the legacy of CoH. It won't ever BE City of Heroes, but it will be created with the scope and breadth of imagination that CoH has and many other MMOs lack.
That has so many different options and you may well see that project breaking new ground in terms of how MMOs are made. -

Yes
Yes and yes and yes! Because it will be all over the press. It won't be just "NCSoft launch Wildstar" it will be "Remember NCSoft, that cancelled City of Heroes? They just launched a new game."
Positron said it best. The CoH community changed the way games are sunset.
Wildstar could be great, but it'll tank in the west because whatever $$$ they throw at marketing the twitter and facebook feed will be "@NCSoft lolwildstar"
nobody who researches MMOs is going to touch it with yours because of NCStink
