I really struggled initially - it is a challenge but I agree, jump control can help a lot. I found speedboost wasn't a huge help.
These are my tips for a successful ski run on both courses:
- Know the course. There are places I consistently screw up if I get it a bit wrong but being able to anticipate helps a lot.
- Don't be airborne unless you need to be. Skating is faster than flying.
- Stay in the centre of the track as much as possible. On the bob-sleigh track, the sides slow you down.
- On the Bob-sleigh track take the left fork on the lower half. The ice is faster.
- Make sure you've got good twitch control. Personally I use my mouse to control my direction. Fine accuracy is your friend.
- Keep trying: Once you've learned the track you'll find yourself shaving seconds off and that helps.
- Don't let frustration beat you. It's still only a game and keeping relaxed about it will also help keep your time low. If you're worried, you'll be tense. You're doing this for your own personal satisfaction, and nobody else need worry about your performance.
- Have a lot of fun doing it.

Thanks Tex but doesn't that call the tray up and I want to be able to click a button on the controller to activate the corresponding power if that makes sense?
-
I'm replacing my faithful but sadly worn out Belkin Nostromo with a new Razer Nostromo and it I'm trying to find out if there's are key commands that I can use on the floating power trays (typically 4, 5, 6 etc?)
The idea is that I access those powers from the Nostromo without clicking clicking the power in the tray itself with my mouse. I know that Tray 2 is Alt+X and Tray 3 = Ctrl+X depending on power but I'm struggling with the others.
Any clues there please?
Also if anyone has one of these how do you set yours up? I'd be interested in comparing notes. -
Are you missing the cutscene captions? You can get them to show in a tab to be read after they've vanished from the screens - and I'd imagine they are on Paragon Wiki too.

Quote:I ultimately look at this situation this way: Even Achilles had his heel.
It took a marksman with an arrow to nail him, not some numpty with a lump of gravel.
It seems to me that Paragon Studios and Matt Miller have really begun to lose the plot with the whole Incarnate thing.
The Power Trees are brilliant but the content leaves a helluva lot to be desired and isn't even enjoyable. It needs to be endured rather than experienced. -
Quote:While I totally agree with the sentiment that the civilians should do less damage than they do now; part of the reason why they hurt so much is that the 6 Telepathists combine to do like -60% def. debuff zone wide.
So no one has any defense to speak of (that is if the Telepathists are out for any period of time).
I get the mechanics of the mission. My argument is simply that the story is noisome excreta. -

I've had to think hard about this.
I think in terms of the game, they should have the ability to throw a rock at somebody and one shot them.
Facetiousness aside, I think that as some have said It's just "more" - maybe they should be something above a GM.... effectively a level 56 or something like that. Hit really hard, take ages to defeat etc. -
Quote:You have 6 pyshics simul-attacking you pretty much negating any soft-cap Defense you have. So... in those situations, rocks and fire are bad.
Which is why it's such a blatantly rubbish story.
If six of them can debuff an entire league, 12 would take out Atlas in 20 minutes and leave it ripe for plunder -
I must admit, I had to do a double take at the TPN - a major WTF, then laughed out loud. Then I scratched my head and looked at what was going on.
Many months playing at level 50, slotting IOs and being the best I can be, then getting three level shifts as an incarnate... only to find that civilians in Praetoria can defeat me by throwing a rock at me.
Seriously? Hellion's don't get defeated by civvies in Primal Earth but the civvies from Praetoria get to beat those who will inherit the legacy of Statesman with a bit of mental mumbo jumbo from a seer and a rock.
The very best of Primal Earth, laid low with a stone. It's like David & Goliath in reverse, where we are the bad guys. Worse, it's totally immersion breaking - because half a dozen of these mad mentalists and a few Warworks in Atlas and the heroes of PE are toast. Game over.
This to me leapt off the page as one of the singularly worst pieces of story telling in the game and is laughably ludicrous. It makes all our journey from level one to Incarnate almost superfluous.
Let's just go back to the old Outbreak and let the Contaminated throw a few rocks at us til we die. That'll save a whole lot of bother! -
*runs off to Paragon Wiki to read about Dream Doctor*
There does seem to be an ideal opportunity for a changing of the guard, bringing in a number of the lesser known signature characters in time for the Battalion to arrive.
Hopefully too, the death of Statesman will signal the beginning of the end of the Incarnate crap we've had to endure. -

Ok there's got to be a sting in the tail of the WWD arc. That's plain now, especially given the confirmation that Ol' Faceplate buys the farm in Ep 5.
We've got two subsequent issues to go and the fact the news is breaking early (ok many of us guessed it.) is clear there's got to be an even bigger reveal at the end of the tale, otherwise a huge percentage of the story's just hogwash that'll fizzle out from nowhere.
So what is it? What's the big news?
Let's get the speculative juices flowing -
I would like Recluse to summon all the villains who've defeated him in the future to invade Paragon City and claim it for their own!
-
I suspect they regret having to cheat to make missions work. I know I do
-
I'm actually glad they are killing Statesman off - for perhaps different reasons than you might expect.
Primarily, Statesman is the symbol of the "old" CoH - the pre-Incarnate, pre-Freedom CoH, where updates were less frequent and options were more limited than we have now. Statesman symbolises the old guard, and arguably remains a legacy symbol of the game's original developers.
Also, I genuinely believe he was written poorly, never reaching his potential, and without pathos. To "reboot" him would be a very difficult task, and there would still be many who saw the "stuffed shirt" rather than the iconic hero and leader. That's not the fault of the character, it's one of the problems of having many writers who didn't necessarily "get" him. But being the leader, the "invincible" member of the Freedom Phalanx is a very tough ask, so it's hard to blame different writers & editors for that.
Paradoxically, it's his impending death that's creating renewed interest in him, and that tells a story all its own. That he only now becomes a figure of sympathy amongst some of his audience is telling - so he needs to die, to survive.
The one critical factor in this story is this: He has to die nobly, with dignity, and against the odds probably in a battle to the finish that will turn the tide in our favour, because of his ultimate sacrifice.
Then, once he is gone, we can stand under the Statesman statue in Atlas and remember him fondly. -
I love [Secondary Mutation]
I've never ever been monkey'd when it's never been a shedload of fun -
December 14th is Alabama day and Monkey Day
So let's create a bunch of Monkey toons and fling odorous matter at our foes in the winter event!!!

No
That's the tl;dr response
The proper response is that I have a massive problem with the whole Incarnate bollocks. It essentially disempowers the player and the PC and rips their destiny from their hands.
Also, the stories aren't that good in comparison to much of the existing content. Some pass muster but when the good stuff comes up, they bend the rules to make the mission tough in terribly bad ways.
I actually loathe the way I become more powerful but I actually really like the whole tree power thing. That in itself is an interesting exploration and the power trees and balance make it intersting. That's the one mitigating factor. -
Wow!
Avatea, I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart - may your new adventure be all you wish and more!
I can honestly say you've been the standout CC that I've ever dealt with, excellent with people (even when they are lumpy buggers like me) and with a great ability to pour oil on troubled waters.
This game will miss you immesurably but other games will gain.
Good luck, take care, stay in touch!

They keep postponing the maintenance cuz they're saving up for some proper software that actually works!
