Keystrokes for Floating Power Trays

I'm replacing my faithful but sadly worn out Belkin Nostromo with a new Razer Nostromo and it I'm trying to find out if there's are key commands that I can use on the floating power trays (typically 4, 5, 6 etc?)

The idea is that I access those powers from the Nostromo without clicking clicking the power in the tray itself with my mouse. I know that Tray 2 is Alt+X and Tray 3 = Ctrl+X depending on power but I'm struggling with the others.

Any clues there please?

Also if anyone has one of these how do you set yours up? I'd be interested in comparing notes.

I believe you want to use the following slash command:

/goto_trays_tray #

Where # is the tray number.

EDIT: Probably what you would want to do is bind a combination of keys to that command for each tray number (such as shift+numpad1, shift+numpad2, etc) and then program the mouse to use that keystroke combination that will activate the bind.

Unless I'm not understanding what you are wanting, which is entirely possible.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Thanks Tex but doesn't that call the tray up and I want to be able to click a button on the controller to activate the corresponding power if that makes sense?

Ah, didn't realize you were trying to play without actually clicking anything or touching the keyboard.

Nevermind then.

And good luck.

BTW, I'm TJ, Texas, or Texas Justice.. Tex is a redname.

lol ok TJ. I'm trying to reduce clicking powers as much as possible - and using the keypad and the mouse to control the game as much as possible. I use my mouse for targeting, movement and direction control and the Nostromo for activating my powers

Powers in trays are already bound to the 1 through 0 keys unless you've changed them. Using the goto_trays_tray # would access that numbered tray and then a keypress on the power number would activate it.

That was my first thought on what you were wanting to do, but now you have me thoroughly confused.

So I'm out.

I handle things differently. Instead of the Nostromo, I have the Razer Naga mouse (17 buttons). I set up each button to a unique keystroke (like O, Shift-O or Ctrl-O). Then I set up binds for each power to certain keys in a standard pattern, so the same button is always my travel power, another button is my heal, etc. One row of buttons is for my primary and another for my secondary. I have a full set of binds for each character. How do I keep track of it all? CityBinder and its Ultra binds. I set up a set of binds for each powerset and save it. If I ever use that powerset on another character, I can use the same Ultra binds.

Then it doesn't matter if I move powers around on trays, since the bind is set to the name of the power instead of its location on a tray.

Sadly, CityBinder is a little bit out of date. The one you can download is REALLY out of date, but somebody was nice enough to make an update about a year ago. It does not have the newest sets, but this is pretty easy to get around by manually entering the names of the new powers. CityBinder has a full set of Speed-On-Demand binds, a full set of Warshade and Peacebringer binds, a full set of Mastermind binds, buffing binds, chat binds, team select binds and others, all of which can be customized pretty well.

I guess I've not explained what I'm trying to achieve very successfully.

On tray 1, if I want to use the 4th power slotted there, I press key 4. On tray 2 the 4th power is alt+4, and tray three, ctrl+4

But what if I want to use the 7th power in Tray 5? Is there a single or multiple keystroke as per above that will enable me to use that?

I can have (so far as I can tell) 8 trays running that way. I don't think the Powexec route is going to work for me unless I build macros. Also I don't have every toon configured the same way and so sadly Local Man's suggestion won't work for me.

The first three trays on your power select window are the only ones that have the default key combos. Nothing else has a "chord key" attached. You don't have to use macros, you can use keybinds and instead of trays assigned to the numbers, make them combined with letters. You might also want to see if the Popmenu function would do what you wish.

Question: do you have a way to assign macro's to the keys outside the game?

For example: I've got a Logitech G15 keyboard with 18 additional "G" keys. The game itself doesn't recognize the individual "G" keys, but I can assign "text strings" to them. So I've written the text equivalent of an in game macro/bind that selects a team mate and executes a power in a particular tray and slot. (the first keystroke selects the teammate, the second executes the power). This is outside the game macro system. Hitting the specific "G1-G18" key is the same as having created a keybind or macro in game.

I'm not sure if this helps or not, but certainly hoping to be helpful.

/powexec [Power Number] [Tray Number]

Tray 4 (positions 1-10)
powexec_tray 1 4
powexec_tray 2 4
powexec_tray 3 4
powexec_tray 4 4
powexec_tray 5 4
powexec_tray 6 4
powexec_tray 7 4
powexec_tray 8 4
powexec_tray 9 4
powexec_tray 10 4

Tray5
powexec_tray 1 5
powexec_tray 2 5
powexec_tray 3 5
powexec_tray 4 5
powexec_tray 5 5
powexec_tray 6 5
powexec_tray 7 5
powexec_tray 8 5
powexec_tray 9 5
powexec_tray 10 5

Tray 6
powexec_tray 1 6
powexec_tray 2 6
powexec_tray 3 6
powexec_tray 4 6
powexec_tray 5 6
powexec_tray 6 6
powexec_tray 7 6
powexec_tray 8 6
powexec_tray 9 6
powexec_tray 10 6

Tray 7
powexec_tray 1 7
powexec_tray 2 7
powexec_tray 3 7
powexec_tray 4 7
powexec_tray 5 7
powexec_tray 6 7
powexec_tray 7 7
powexec_tray 8 7
powexec_tray 9 7
powexec_tray 10 7

Tray8
powexec_tray 1 8
powexec_tray 2 8
powexec_tray 3 8
powexec_tray 4 8
powexec_tray 5 8
powexec_tray 6 8
powexec_tray 7 8
powexec_tray 8 8
powexec_tray 9 8
powexec_tray 10 8

Tray 9
powexec_tray 1 9
powexec_tray 2 9
powexec_tray 3 9
powexec_tray 4 9
powexec_tray 5 9
powexec_tray 6 9
powexec_tray 7 9
powexec_tray 8 9
powexec_tray 9 9
powexec_tray 10 9

And if you have a program that maps keys to your device (like my G510 keyboard does for my 18 G-Keys) you do stuff like this.

/bind ALT+A, powexec_tray 1 4
/bind ALT+B, powexec_tray 2 4

And so on and so forth.

Then, when you map the keys, map 1 to ALT+A, map 2 to ALT+B, etc.

Now remember, the chord keys (CTRL, SHIFT, and ALT) have to come first, you can't do B+ALT.

Yeah, the Nostromo has 16 programmable keys with 8 separate keymaps.

Here's what I do... I've been using the Nostromo for 7 years now.

Keys 1-10 are bound to 1, 2, 3, etc.
Key 11 is spacebar (jump)
Key 12 is alt
Key 13 is ctrl
Key 14 is open and I bind it to something I use frequently that doesn't fit... on my Incarnates it's typically my Destiny power.

The thumb rocker I map to the arrow keys and use it for moving around, the small top thumb button I map to "closest enemy", the wheel I have mapped to next/previous enemy and button 15 is mapped to follow.

With that setup I have my tray 1 powers under my fingers, my tray two are available with key 12 + whatever power and my tray three powers are key 13 + whatever power.

I always set all my characters up similarly so I don't have to hunt for powers... all my main attacks will be 1-5, 6 is always my travel power (I like this macro for super jumpers: "powexec_name combat jumping$$powexec_name super jump" to toggle from CJ to SJ), 7-0 are going to be buffs, debuffs, "special" attacks and whatnot.

Tray 2 contains buffs, pet summon and other things I need frequently while Tray 3 has the overflow. Trays 4-6 have macros, TP powers like O Portal, Base TP, Assemble the Team and other powers I use occasionally but don't need in combat. So far I haven't yet come up with a character I can't fit all powers I use in combat onto the first 3 trays... things I use out of combat it isn't a problem to simply click with the mouse.

I try to configure things so I can move from a tanker to a controller to a defender without having to relearn where my powers are.

I bind the forward/backward (button4, button5) buttons on the mouse to a self heal and/or AOE buff power. For my Kinetic characters I use the keyboard numeric keypad with the following:

NUMPAD1 "$$teamselect 1$$powexecname Speed Boost"
NUMPAD2 "$$teamselect 2$$powexecname Speed Boost"
NUMPAD3 "$$teamselect 3$$powexecname Speed Boost"
NUMPAD4 "$$teamselect 4$$powexecname Speed Boost"
NUMPAD5 "$$teamselect 5$$powexecname Speed Boost"
NUMPAD6 "$$teamselect 6$$powexecname Speed Boost"
NUMPAD7 "$$teamselect 7$$powexecname Speed Boost"
NUMPAD8 "$$teamselect 8$$powexecname Speed Boost"

Hitting 1 on the keypad selects team member #1 and hits them with SB (sometimes you need to hit it twice, once to select and once to buff).

I find that setup takes care of my needs; most of the time I only take my hands off the Nostromo & Mouse when I'm typing something in chat.

Thanks!
I believe that is what the OP was looking for and I've actually been meaning to set this up for myself as well.

I can't recall... can the game take binds with more than one Chord Key? I've thought about using ALT+CTRL+[number] and SHIFT+ALT and so on... Even though I don't think I could hit anything above the number 4 on those with one hand, hehe. I guess some people can't do ATL or CTRL + 0 with one hand though!

I honestly don't know. But I don't think so.

Thanks for the help and advice chaps. Much appreciated.

After further experimentation I've got a nice system where the 10 main keys are power tray 1 and then the thumb button (Button 16) flips between that and power tray 2

Then I use the 4 lower keys for tray 3 - the last two being emergency powers

One thing I'm not clear about... if I use the powexec function, how do I get that into the Nostromo program?

You bind a power in-game to an odd key combo. Like SHIFT+I or CTRL+J or ALT+B, then bind a button on the nostromo to that combo.

Take a look at this discussion about gaming keyboards and macros here:http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=222136

Although the thread is discussing the Logitech G15 keyboard and macros, it's possible that you can do similar things with the Nostromo software.
