Quote:there you go.I'm not sure Marketing would like to remove their brand name (or maybe they would, since a lot of the time it seems to be synonymous with "Aging MMO which really needs a revamp" in a lot of articles I've read recently.
And it's not gonna really be City of Heroes much longer. With GR you're not constrained to one set of moral ideals and you're not even going to be able to distinguist by the power sets, since they are almost all proliferated (one of the big distinctions in the original CoH/CoV game.) -
I've been wondering this for a while and the thought is slowly permeating my conciousness into tangibility but I'm thinking we may well see a name change for the game sometime within the next year as part of a "rebranding" thing.
I don't think it'll ever stop being "City of Heroes" but we already have one of the clunkiest names/acronyms in the known universe and Going Rogue will more than lilely add to that confused moniker.
I'm not sure what you guys think but if you were marketing, wouldn't you be looking at that now? -
Quote:I've commented on this before. IMO, the reason we were given the EU lounge was so that they could shovel us off into a corner and ignore us for the most part.
this
Although I've noticed this forum is beginning to look like it's on it's last legs already so it may be they'll have to start taking notice of us sooner or later -
Good find by the OP
I have to say if the Dev's do miss this then they will have missed a trick.
Even if it's something like the Mantipsyche's weeding event, that'd be a lovely touch. -
In my day they said "Walls have ears." Guess times have changed.

Quote:These things take time to organize - setting up Hero Con ain't like dustin' crops, boy! Without precise calculations they could drive right through a Star Trek convention, or bounce too close to a furry gathering and that'd end the trip real quick, wouldn't it?
would we be able to tell the difference? -

Quote:Perhaps once the players finish reporting the 800 pages or so worth of farm missions, then the Devs have a decent chance of finding new missions to nominate.
My money's on the fact that they're all too busy on GR material right now.
So you reckon the Dev's haven't even looked at the MA from a players PoV since MA launched then? -
I've only ever had a couple of purples since they were "invented" - which considering the number of hours I play is low and always has been
I've salso noticed a decrease in drops overall recently but I need to install drop stats to get figures -
Good post from the OP. Shame the rest of the thread's got so bitter.
There's no right way to play the game I guess - it's all down to personal preference. I've done it old school and I've also used boosts to get me through some of the more grindy levels.
So long as you are having a positive experience with the game and playing within the game's constraints, all is good. -

Ok the MA finally gets to work right. It enables player created content that people might actually be interested in playing as opposed to endless farm after farm.
Yet the same mission heads up the list. Every time you log in, go to the MA that one mission is the first thing to hit you between the eyes. Ad nauseum
It's not even a particularly good mission, especially compared to some of the stuff that's out there, but it's been in the list longer than forever and got a Dev's Choice because it was first, not necessarily because it was quality.
(I should point out I don't have any particular axe to grind with the author @Ground Pounder here, so I'm not questioning his/her ability as a player or as an author.)
But that mission, alongside "Welcome to Architect Entertainment", "Saul Rubenstein's Discount Task Force" and "The Do-It-Yourself Laser Moonbase Project" amongst others all hog the front page - and like a web page that never changes or evolves, stops being a tool for driving traffic, but rather gives an impression of staleness and a lack of imagination.
That's totally the impression the MA should not be giving. Instead it should be inspiring players to play and develop their own arcs. But why bother when you're still going to see the same old turgid missions on the front page? Are they the only Dev's choices available? No, of course not. There's dozens (although finding Dev's choice that do NOT have the mission in question on the top of the page seems tricky) and by now there should be hundreds.
What about Guest Authors? Why do they not make it to the front page, not indeed do Hall of Fame? Nope, they are buried unless you search for them but the same old Johnny hogs the front page. The MA should be literally screaming at you "You really need to be playing this excellent mission. The guys who make this game think it's great and we think you will too!" Instead we get 6 missions that we've played already and are very unlikely to play again in a hurry.
You might like to argue that with the search facility, players can look for missions they might enjoy. Sure that's very true, but the search isn't especially intuitive, and it also takes time, and then there's the biggest question: What to search for? Not always the easiest question to answer. But if I have a spare 45 minutes with a few mates in MA I don't necessarily want to spend time searching. I'd like to see something fresh and I will sample it, rather like a buffet. The Dev created content is the full sit-down banquet, the MA is the smorgasboard.
It's not that difficult to fix either. As I'm writing this I can only find 17 Dev's Choice missions. So, the Dev's aren't choosing, which seems odd, given this is such a flagship tool for Paragon Studios. So Dev's, extract digit please and choose more missions for your accolades and give the MA front page some much needed TLC! -
This hasn't been a critical issue until the merging of the fora - but now we are all on a communicative level playng field, the can of worms has been opened.
Another thing of course is that CoH players do form a bond outside of the official game areas, for example I know of at least 20, probably more players from across the world, who love the game but who also spend time in Second Life. We'd love to get an SG going but to do that would mean that we in the EU would have to sacrifice Vet Rewards and SG bases (or buy an additional account + subs) which for many just isn't feasable.
I actually believe that universal server access would spread the load rather than deplete servers. I could be wrong but I reckon some of the bigger SGs would enjoy using that as an opportunity to swell their ranks.
Personally I have no real desire to move my home server but I'd love an opportunity to get to play with guys on here that right now I just cannot - and it's something of an artificial restriction. -
Couple of quick points:
War Witch is on record as saying that the game engine is nowhere near running at capacity. There is a lot more that can be done with it (and the intimation there is that the dev's don't actually yet know how far it can go but it's a long way.) The limiting factor is policy - not to leave players with older/lower spec systems behind. (Which IMNSVHO is a good policy.) But given that CoV launched almost 4 years ago, most people will be on a machine of higher spec than they had then I would guess so there is room for a good deal of improvement I'd imagine.
Also the ATI/nVidia tends to be horses for courses, as does the AMD/Intel thing - they keep interspersing positions and status and will often have problems but for the lay user generally one tends to be as good as the other for the most part. It's only when you start to look under the hood that you notice much difference in my experience. -
I play both
For me it's how the character grabs me conceptually, rather than their sex, that makes it a character worth playing. -
Welcome back. Hopefully your PC is new and shiny

Quote:This sums it up for me.The problem is that no other AT should compare to Blaster damage. In all honesty, Blasters should do at least double the damage they do now.
1. They have no inherent resistance.
2. They have no inherent defense.
3. They have no inherent healing powers other than Drain Psyche.
4. They have no inherent mez protection, and the only AT without such.
5. They have very few mitigation tools.
That's a lot to give up for a high damage level. So no, no other AT therefore should come close to their damage. Spines scrappers should not be able to outdamage a blaster. A controller with a Fulcrum Shifted fireball should not outdamage a Fire Blasters fireball. Etc. Etc.
However much the OP has been ridiculed and whatever the merits of the discussion, blasters are no longer the glass cannon they were conceived to be. They are a glass water-pistol instead. Their damage is very poor compared to their inherent lack of resistance and that's pretty well across the board (speaking as someone with 4 lvl 50 blasters.)
Comparisons with other ATs are always going to be very difficult unless you have the data mining capabilities available to the Devs and the fact that a blaster is underpowered doesn't mean it's impossible to play, it just means that you go into the game knowing you're at a significant disadvantage to your colleagues.
Defiance 2.0 went a fair way to addressing some of the blaster gimp issues but there's still an awful long way to go, not least PVP.
But however you care to draw comparisons, who'd ever consider doing an All-Blaster ITF or LGTF? Yet they're readily achievable with an all melee team or an all defender or dom or VEAT teams and that, I'd venture to say, is the acid test of a blaster's worth.
Sadly as the game stands, a blaster is one of the last ATs you'd want on your team of heavy hitters and that is a crying shame. -
good luck buddy hope you get it sorted and hurry back

Quote:Indeed. Both the current teams are good, but the current Australian team is a big step down from Ponting + Gilchrist + Warne + McGrath + 7 better than average international players.
Yeah you only get teams like that once in a generation. The Ashes this year was a great contest, nip tuck all the way and I don't think anyone could call it even until the Broad ripped through the Aussies on day 2 at the Oval.
The ODI series is proving to be very "meh" for a lot of England fans because
a) it's been a very long summer and the Ashes is really all that's important in it
b) 7 ODIs is way too many to be playing (plus the meaningless ODIs that were played England v Ireland & Aus v Scotland) and the 2 T20s that were rained off
c) England are rubbish at the short form of the game.
We won this round, and I think we've got some great potential to make a good team but we often have that and fail to fulfil. I suspect the rematch in 18 months won't go the same way as 06/7 however -
Just a follow up guys: I've got him almost fully IO'd now, and I'm loving playing him. Loads of fun... in fact I would go as far to say he's my 2nd favourite toon ever.
Thanks a lot for everyone's help and input -
